The experience was great. Mike and his team completed the roof job in one day. The chimney repointing was done a few days before. Mike was great at communicating the schedule and what to expect. His team was very professional. He even came out a few days later to walk through the work with me and answer all my questions. It was a great experience from start to finish and we have gotten numerous compliments on how the roof looks. Mike's price was competitive (not the cheapest but a bit below the average quote). I think he struck just the right balance of quality, service, and price. I would recommend Viola roofing 100%.
Description of Work: Mike and his team replaced my roof. Specifically, they removed existing roof and all debris, replace rotted boards, installed GAF ice and water shield, installed 8 inch aluminum drip edges and starter strips along the entire perimeter of house, installed Timberline HD shingles, repointed the chimney from the roof line up, installed new step flashings and new lead flashing on chimney, installed zinc strips along all roof ridges, and install new rake and shadow boards on all sections using Azec trim boards.

A nice guy. He came promptly and gave me an estimate but it did take him a while to start the job and I was concerned about the snow, but this was not a problem. He came and completed the work in one day. The work was excellent and he cleaned up after the job. He was great.
Description of Work: I used Viola Roofing last fall in October for roofing repair work. He came out and replaced 25% of the roof. He put in a barricade and fan.

This was my first use of Angie's List and it proved to be worth every penny. Mike is knowledgeable and was extremely patient with the added layers of complexity when dealing with a condo association. Mike is low key and is very flexible. He adhered to everything he signed up for in terms of the scope of work, start times, living within his estimate, etc. His crew works hard and fast! The grounds were amazingly immaculate at the end of each work day. It was a very painless experience resulting in a nice new roof. Add to this the fact that we almost did not choose Viola Contracting because his price was one of the lowest and we were worried about what that might mean. However, we realized we would be foolish not to trust his high Angie's List "marks" along with the relatively large number of past clients giving him those high marks. I would recommend Viola Contracting unreservedly.

The total project from estimate through construction and cleanup could not have gone more easily for us. It was a pleasure to work with Mike and all of his crew. I can't give them a high enough recommendation. If you need a roof or repairs to one, I highly recommend you call Viola Roofing to do your job.
Description of Work: Mike Viola, owner of Viola Roofing and his team, were a delight to work with. They started promptly at 6:45 each morning of a two day job to remove two layers of my old roof and replace it. From Mike 's proposal, I learned things about the new roof technology that I didn't know about. The crew was very pleasant, worked very hard and was incredibly neat and tidy. They covered all of the extensive shrubs around the house with large drop cloths, cleaned up all material removed throughout the day, and put it in a dumpster which they had arranged for. At the end of each day, they removed the cloths, cleaned up all the mess so that it looked like it did before they started the project. At the end of the job, they used a large rolling magnet to pick up all of the old and new nails so that we didn't get flat tires and our puppy didn't swallow any nails. I didn't have to do one minute of cleanup after they finished our job. The total installation of the new roof, flashings, edges, mold prevention strips, and gutter cleaning took slightly less time than they had estimated. Mike asked me to look around and see if everything was done to my satisfaction. We had one of those colossal rain storms one evening and I noticed that one of the gutters was overflowing. He sent one of his men back and they went up and cleaned out the clogged gutter. No questions asked.

Received 4 estimates from some of the top rated roofers on Angie's List and Viola was willing to work with us on the pricing. We must have exchanged over 10 emails prior to the work and Mike responded promptly to each query that I had for him. Highly professional, prompt, and extremely responsive. Highly recommended.

I had the opportunity to research Viola roofing for 2 months before making my decision. I did my homework, compared prices, and called references. Mike was very responsive via email and phone to answer all of my questions. He also accepts AMEX which added to my level of comfort. Mike showed up as stated around 7am with about a team of 9 guys. The roof was completely stripped within an hour and a half. They were very careful to take care of the house and covered up the house to protect everything. Mike stayed on site for about half of the project and when he left the guys were still very attentive. The entire job was complete in 7 hours, including the replacement of 2 skylights. This was the first major home improvement project that I have undertaken and Viola roofing made it easy. I would highly recommend them to anyone!

I discovered a small roof leak on a Saturday that was letting water drip onto my kitchen ceiling. I called Mike that morning and he came out that afternoon to assess the leak. After taking a look, he told me there were 2 options to try and stop the leak - 1 option was less expensive but was not as involved. We decided to go with the more expensive option to ensure the leak was fixed. Mike was able to come out the following week as planned and completed the repair. I also liked the fact that he did not request payment until we had a rainy day when I could check to make sure the repair had stopped the leak. Mike was very professional and I would absolutely use him in the future for any other issues that may arise.

He came right out, gave me a good estimate, came right to the house, had the whole house done within a day, they re-roofed my shed that I didn't think that was included in the estimate and got the siding out of my basement and patched the holes in my siding without any extra charge. They went way above and beyond. I have the best looking roof on the block now. I was very impressed with team that came out and they did such a great job.

After researching roofing contractors on Angie's list, I contacted three roofing companies for estimates. Viola roofing was one of the three. Mike Viola got back to me within one or two days of my calling him. We scheduled a meeting shortly after, and I found him courteous and professional. He answered all my questions carefully and thoroughly. He rejected the option of putting a new roof on top of the old roof, confirming what I had heard, that putting a new roof on an old one was not a good idea. I asked for a list of some houses in the area that he had roofed along with the telephone numbers of the owners. He provided me with the list very quickly. I visited the houses to look at the roofs and got very positive recommendations from the owners whom I phoned. Mike Viola's price was the lowest of the three contractors I contacted. Also I trusted his responses to my questions and concerns, so I decided to hire his company for the job. Within a week or so, he scheduled a time with me to drop by for me to sign the contract. At that meeting Mike took the time to look at two 3rd floor storage areas in my house to discuss proper venting options. He also warned me to empty those areas or to cover the items stored since debris was likely to fall into the storage areas while the roof work was done; I greatly appreciated that tip. The roofing job was completed just a few days after signing the contract. Remarkably, they completed everything in one day although Mike had originally thought the work would take two days. He arrived with two work crews at 7am to set up. They carefully protected plantings along the house and the siding of the house with tarps. They carefully avoided gardens as they carried and stored equipment in the yard. Mike remained on the site supervising for most of the day. By 4pm the work was done and we had a fine new roof. I had consulted Mike on the color choices for the roof and drip edge and he gave me his recommendations although he was very careful to point out that I was the owner and the color should be my choice. In the end I went with his recommendations and was very pleased with the results. The cleanup was impeccable. We have three dogs and I was worried about any missed debris in the yard, but there simply wasn't any, not so much as a nail anywhere. After they left, there wasn't a sign they had been at my home except for the handsome new roof. Time will tell how it holds up, but I am confident that he and his crews did an excellent job. I recommend Viola roofing highly.
Description of Work: Viola Roofing removed the old roof of our 1910 home completely and installed a new roof. The roof was last done in 1988 and was due for replacement. The job included removal of all debris from the property, replacing any rotted boards, installing the following: drip edges and starter strips along entire perimeter of the roof, GAF ice and water shield and GAF shinglemate paper, Timberline shingles, new flashings, ridge vents and ridge caps, new pipe flanges on vent pipes. The job also included replacing damaged flashings and skylight flashing.

Mike Viola provided excellent service and does quality work. His price was very reasonable and the work was done well. He came with a crew of 4 and they were cleaned up and finished by the early afternoon. After the job was done and we had already paid for it, we noticed that the end of one area of flashing needed a cap. We called Mike and he came right out to correct it, even though we had already paid in full. Very pleased overall.

Mike Viola, Brian and the crew were great. They arrived promptly at 7 and went straight to work. Each of the crew knew exactly what to do. Within a few hours the old roof was stripped. By 3 pm the install of the new roof was completed. When a few minor problems were found, they didn't ask, they just took care of it. By 4, the property was as clean as it was at the beginning of the day. We were very pleased with the work done and would recommend Viola Roofing to everyone. Of 5 estimates we solicited, Mike Viola's was among the lowest. The estimate included everything the other estimates did, plus a few additional steps such as installing the zinc strips along all ridges. The job was completed at the original estimate. Nice job!

Mike replied by email the next day to my request for an estimate. He showed up on time on the day we had agreed upon. He was informative about the siding options and explained why to go with one versus another. He produced the quotation before leaving my property and left us with shingle and siding samples. The job started about 3 weeks after the initial estimate. The complete roof replacement took a day and the yard was cleaner after they left than before they started. Mike had our existing siding tested for asbestos and when it came back positive, he arranged (with my approval) for its removal. The day after the siding was removed, Mike was there to do the siding and gutters. Again, the yard and porch were spic and span after they left. During the job, Mike kept me up to date on the progress via emails and phone calls. I would hire Mike and his crew again!
Description of Work: We had our 15 year old roof and all gutters replaced. We also had a second story addition stripped and sided with "cedar shingle" siding.

We were seeking two estimates: 1. To replace just a section of the roof that had been damaged in a storm; and 2. To replace the entire roof. Mike Viola responded quickly to our inquiry and came out the next day. He provided two excellent estimates for our two options, and we ultimately chose his company to replace our entire roof. Although it was a busy time of year to complete work before winter, Viola Roofing managed to schedule our job even more quickly than originally anticipated. A large crew of workers came on time on the scheduled day and immediately went to work replacing the roof. The entire job was done quicker than expected, and came in right on estimate, both of which were a welcome relief. They even provided extra protection on the section of the roof that had been damaged and was susceptible to sure ice damage. Getting a quality, brand-new roof at a good price, of course, was the most important thing, but I also was extremely impressed by the company's professionalism and attention to detail. In particular, our house is situated fairly close to our neighbors' homes, and Viola Roofing was conscientious of their space and their cooperation, which was greatly appreciated by me and even complimented on by the neighbors. Finally, stripping and replacing an entire roof creates quite a mess, but when Viola Roofing had completed the project, our yard and driveway (and the neighbors') were impeccably clean ? even moreso than when they arrived. Seeing that cleanliness and professionalism provided tremendous satisfaction in a job well done and proved that we had made the right choice. Since we've had the new roof, we have not had any problems or issues ? as expected. Overall, I was very impressed with Viola Roofing, and I would definitely call them first the next time I need roofing or contracting services.

A VERY POSITIVE experience!!! I?m a single female and have had bad experiences with contractors in the past, so I let my roofs go until my garage was about to cave in and a leak was staining one of my ceilings. I immediately felt comfortable with Mike Viola. There was absolutely no pressure. He told me half my roof needed immediate replacement, the other half could be patched and replaced in a few years. He also said my chimney could be repointed rather than rebuilt. I opted to have the above work done. While the work was being done, I mentioned to Mike that squirrels were living under the roof of my front porch, so he asked one of his roofers to nail wire under the eaves to keep the squirrels out. It took the roofer over an hour to put the wire up and I wasn?t charged for the service. My home is now squirrel free!! They also found that my garage roof was beyond repair and needed to be reframed. I wasn?t charged for the materials or labor. When Mike appraised the job I told him I had shingles for the garage roof and just needed them to put them up. After they started the job, I changed my mind and said I wanted to purchase more shingles so that both roofs matched. He didn?t charge me for the additional shingles. Mike?s crew is exceptional. They?re polite, friendly, punctual, and they all get along. At one point I was weeding a garden and a member of his crew stopped and helped me pull up some big weeds. And to top it off, when the work was finished, there was a little room in the metal container so one of his workmen told me to feel free to add some rubbish. I mentioned that I had two small couches in my living room and that I would ask my son to come over that evening to help me get them out of the house. He immediately gathered three of his crew and they took the furniture out for me. I am so impressed with Viola Roofing and would definitely hire them again.

I called Mike on a Thursday afternoon, he called me back the next day and arranged to come out and look at my roof. When he arrived at my house he inspected my roof by walking around the house and getting up on the roof itself. When he was finished with the inspection he wrote up a very competitive estimate. Mike stopped by my house the next day (Saturday) so I could sign the contract and to answer any questions that I had. It was at this point I told him that for insurance reasons I needed to have the roof done by March 24th. He said that was absolutely not a problem and wrote it into the contract for me. Mike told me that they would call the day before he and his crew came to do the roof. Also Mike said that the entire job would take approximately 2 days. True to his word Mike called on Thursday March 15th to let us know that they were dropping the roofing materials and that they would be doing my roof on Friday the 16th. Mike and his crew arived early (around 7am) on Friday morning and got right to work. By the time I left for work (8am) they had the roof 50% stripped. My parents called me around 3pm to tell me that the job was complete and that Mike and his crew had also fixed the siding and the roof on the shed for no extra cost. My parents and my next door neighbor were very impressed with Mike's crew and the quality of their work.

He sent us his insurance form so that we would be covered in case of an accident. It was november and due to the oncoming cold weather we decided to postpone the work until the early spring because the caulks and adhesives he would be using would need to be applied in above freezing temperatures. Come March I called the contractor again to schedule the work and spoke with him on the phone, asking to schedule the work and to get a bid on a ridge vent as well. He said he would contact me by email. After two weeks of waiting on him he emails me that he does not want to do the job. It is so unprofessional to lead a customer on like this and then blow them off!!! He says in his email- " I will refer you to a good contractor " Gee does he really think I want to be referred by someone who is so unprofessional? Thank goodness for Angies list!!
Description of Work: We received a quote for wrapping some of our trim in aluminum, replacing the gutters on the back porch, replacing a rubber roof and a shingled roof on a rear stairwell and porch. The bid was very competitive and we liked the contractor. We agreed to hire him. I had interviewed 4 other contractors and liked him and his approach best.

Member, With all due respect that is not exactly what transpired. You initially contacted me in early August 2011. At that time I provided you with a quote within a few days of our initial meeting. After a few weeks your wife contacted me to move forward with the job. She requested a copy of my insurance which I sent to her. I told her we were very busy and I would get to it as soon as I could. Then I had a job cancel so I was able to schedule your project earlier than anticipated, but the day before I was to start she informed me that we could not proceed because she wanted her name on the insurance binder. I told her that this was not a common practice but would get it for her but it would be after the job started. She said that we couldn’t start unless she had this so at that point I told her that we were booked up and our opportunity to get the job done before the cold weather had passed. Then I told her it would be best if she used another contractor that I recommended but she did not want to use him. At that point I was under the impression that you were going in another direction, but to my surprise the wife contacted me in late February 2012 to re-schedule the work. I told her I would have to get back to her, and I did but unfortunately I was not going to be able to do the project and would help by getting a quality contractor there to complete the project within a couple weeks. She never replied and next thing I see is this report on Angies List. Again members I am sorry things did not work out but I do hope your project works out for you. Regards Mike Viola
The above description of the work performed by Viola Roofing says it all! Mike Viola is one of the BEST contractors I have ever worked with. From the moment he returned my first phone call, he was a consummate professional every step of the way. He showed up when he said he would, listened carefully to my concerns, and performed a thorough inspection of my large, complicated roofing job. Then he went back to his truck and returned a few minutes later with a detailed printed proposal for everything that we had discussed, price included. I had obtained estimates from other roofing companies and I found Viola Roofing to be the most reasonable, especially considering the extent of the work and their sterling reputation which I knew they would live up to. We hear all the time that the best contractors are very busy, and Viola Roofing is indeed busy. Mike was honest in telling me that he was booked a month out but once I signed the contract and agreed on a start date, everything fell into place. Mike stayed in touch as we got closer to the start date, sending emails to inform me what would happen next (i.e., the arrival of the dumpster; delivery of the materials; arrival of the work crew). His large crew is friendly and fantastic, with everyone having a job to do and barely stopping to take a breath. Mike had said the job would take two days, and he was right on the mark, much to my amazement! The roof looked gorgeous and the cleanup was spectacular, right down to cleaning out the gutters and raking up and hauling off many bags of autumn leaves. I don't remember the last time my property looked so immaculate! But here's the icing on the cake ---- just before Mike left, I sought his advice about how to repair a large area of brand-new siding that had been damaged (unavoidably) by a previous contractor. Mike said he would handle it for me, and true to his word, he sent a crew to my house several weeks later and they performed the difficult repair with true artistry. When I emailed Mike to ask how much I owed, he wrote back, "No problem at all ... thanks again for the business." Customer service just doesn't get any better than that!

First and foremost, Mike Viola had a worker come out in September 2011 before the tropical storm hit to do a quick patch of a spot on the roof through which we were experiencing a significant leak. The patch held throughout the storm and until the time Mike was able to have a crew return to do the complete roof replacement. Mike even called shortly after the storm to check in about the patch job. Of course, he also wanted to know if we were going to go ahead with the total roof replacement or just pay for the patching. Mike impressed me with his quick response, attention to detail, and never pressuring for payment. His crew completed the work in a day or two, including cleaning up and removing all of the old shingles as well as magnetically sweeping the yard and sidewalks for loose nails. While I haven't spent a lot of time in the yard since the work was completed, I have only found one nail so far. Mike was always responsive to my phone calls as well as keeping us up-to-date regarding the schedule for the work. This was particularly a challenge for Mike after the tropical storm hit because of work that was generated from the storm. Even with that, Mike was able to get to our job much quicker than he originally estimated. As far a price goes, that seemed reasonable. I must admit that I didn't have competitive bids to compare as two other roofing companies never got back to me with bids. However, my feeling and sense, including speaking to some friends and neighbors, is that the price was within the usual range. Overall, I was very pleased with the company and the work and would recommend Viola to anyone who asked for a roofing recommendation.
Description of Work: The work that was done was removal of all of the exisiting roof shingles, replacing up to 200 feet of roof wood, and installing all new shingles.

.I found this comopany on Angie's List. His response was very quick because he came within a day of calling him. He surveyed the job and provided me within a written quote. I did not hire him yet because I chose to wait till the weather is better.

I got over 20 quotes from various eastern Mass. roofing companies, some from Angie's List, some from other sources. Mike made the best overall presentation and was very competitive on price. Mike responded quickly to all my numerous questions and I have to admit I did ask a lot of them! He's a busy guy so when I finally made my decision in early December, he answered frankly that the earliest he could get to my job was early January. Man of his word, sure enough he called me the first week of the new year and told me he could do the work on Jan 5th. Mike and his crew showed up at 7am and were completely done be 4pm. The work seemed impeccable to me, but of course with roofs only time will tell. I have solid expectations not to have to worry about this roof for years to come. Mike's crew were polite, respectful and hard-working and they did a great clean up job and fully protected the hedges, dormer roofs and sides of the house. I am a fussy guy about stuff like insurance certificates but Mike & his insurance agency met my requirements in full. If you're obtaining quotes from roofers do NOT neglect to confirm their liability and especially workmen's comp insurance. Make sure they have it and it's currently in force. In getting quotes I was surprised to hear from roofers who were unable or unwilling to provide sufficient assurances in this important regard. No problem here with Mr. Viola. I am very happy with my decision and with the result. I have the back half of my roof to do within the next year or so. Mike already provided a competitive quote and I expect I will be contacting him to do this work later in 2012.
Description of Work: I contracted with Mike Viola and his company to replace the front half of my roof. This involved stripping an old double layer of shingles. I have a very steep roof with a lot of dormer-type areas. Looks like a tough job to me but Mike & his crew didn't seem to have any problem at all!

I used Angie's List to find them. There was nothing that I did not like. Mr. Mike Viola was very professional and timely. I found him from Angie's List. I contacted him among a few other people and he got back to me right away. I set up an appointment for him to come and look at the job. He looked at the project and gave me a quote. I gave him feedback very quickly on the fact that I wanted to use him. He told me that they were very busy and that he could not come out for about three weeks which was fine. He told me as to when he would come out three weeks later. He did the job and he did it on budget.
Description of Work: I used the services of Viola Roofing & Contracting in the end of November 2011 to put up the gutters and downspouts on the back of my house.
