I can't speak highly enough about the quality work and overall experience in working with Mike and his team. Mike was responsive, honest, professional, and efficient and I will use him again and also recommend him highly to friends and neighbors. The quote could have been much lower but I asked him to do specific tasks and details that were not required; they were added extras we requested of him. They were in and out in a day and left no trace as the property was immaculate when they finished.

Went great. Mike turned up on time to do the estimate. He knew what he was talking about. He got it done when he said he would. Repairs have stood up to Hurricane Sandy, so something must be right!
Description of Work: Mike did some repairs on the roof of a home I'd just bought--replaced a sky light, re-roofed a piece over a bay window, incidental reparis around the gutters

Thank you Angie's List. Mike immediately returned my initial call and came to Beverly the following Saturday morning to give m a written comprehensive estimate. Having met with other roofers, I was so impressed with Mike's presentation that I signed the contract on the spot. Mike said it would be 3-4 weeks before he could begin, but it was worth the wait. Approximately 4 weeks later, Mike called to say his crew would arrive at 7:00 AM on Saturday morning. Everyone arrived as scheduled and stripped and installed my new roof with precision. The operation was like a well-oiled machine. Due to the threat of rain, there was a crew of 8 who completed the job by early afternoon. I cannot say enough about how pleasant and professional this experience has been. My neighbors and relatives were so impressed that I have enthusiastically given Mike Viola's number to several people for future employment. I highly recommend Viola roofing.
Description of Work: Stripped 2 exisiting Did usual prep work for GAF HD shingle application But in addition to the usual process, Mike applied a zinc strip to deter mold and mildew buildup and also installed vents under the overhang. Neither of these were even suggested by other roofers. Installation was quick, neat and totally professional.

I waited only 2-3 weeks after signing contract and sending 1/3 down payment. Excellent communication, punctuality and price.:$8700. The other estimates for the same job were about $11000 and $14000 this one was using a fancier brand of shingle.) Brothers are nice guys - I am not supposed to lift, and one brother brought my window boxes under cover to protect them from falling debris. The crew was large , courteous, and hardworking and were done the same day, including clean-up. Viola sent one worker the next day to complete a detail which I wouldn't have noticed. The container was picked up early the next day. There was very minimal damage to plantings, Much easier experience than I would have expected!
Description of Work: Stripped off 2 layers of shingles and removed in dumpster. Replace rotting boards up to 200 in. Install GAF ice shield along 1st 6 ft of roof, rakes and all flashing areas. 8 in. alu. drip edge on entire perimeter of house. Install Timberline shingles. New flashing on chimneys. Ridge vent. Install rubber roof on flat roof area . Clean all gutters. Protect shrubs(tarps, etc.) Clean up. Permit fees included. Guarantee: 10 yr workmanship, life-time shingle, 110 mph wind coverage.

In September of last year my roof was leaking into my living room and I called Viola for an estimate, as well as other companies. But I couldn't afford to install a new roof, since I just bought the house 6 months ago (and my home inspector was an idiot who said my roof was fine). Anyways, I asked Viola Roofing if they would be willing to at least patch up that small part of the roof to prevent further damage, while I save up money to fix the whole roof next year. And they did...free of charge. So I was able to save up some money and lo and behold, the roof started leaking again in the same spot 12 months later. Again, I took estimates from folks and Viola's price was the most reasonable with a 10 year workmanship warranty. They even remembered that they had patched my roof last year, ha! At first, I had considered another roofing company that was slightly cheaper, but they weren't very responsive so I decided not to go with them. Originally, Mike Viola told me that he wouldn't be able to get to my house for four weeks because he was booked; but when I told him how my roof leaking got worse he called me back a few days later saying that he was able to do my roof the next week. I really appreciated that he made me a priority during a desperate time! New England storms are not very forgiving in the fall months. So about ten men came to my house early in the morning (on time!) and got straight to work on the roof and didn't stop until 7 hours later --- DONE, including cleanup! Even my neighbors were impressed and one of them asked me later if I had Viola's business card. The workers were very pleasant and were able to answer any questions or concerns I raised during the job. The original cost for the job was $7600, but I was able to use their $100 Angie's List coupon which they respected. The only negative in this experience was that they forgot to remove the dumpster from my driveway the next day, but when I called Mike he made sure it was taken care of right away. I like that the overall process was fast and easy, no fuss, no drama. And the price was reasonable. I would highly recommend Viola Roofing to anyone.

Great experience overall. Mike scheduled a day & time to stop by and provide a free estimate. He showed up exactly on time and gave us a very fair price for labor & materials. I agreed to have the work done and he scheduled the job a few days later for us. The job was very professionally done and was tested soon after by a few straight days of rain. All gutters & downspouts were working better than ever. The work areas were also completely cleaned up after the job was finished. Thanks - great job!

Great job start to finish. In fact, my wife and I weren't even home when the house was roofed.
Description of Work: Viola Roofing did an excellent job at the lowest price. In addition to saving us money on the roof the price included three custom skylights and roofing the shed. The skylights were professionally fit over old out of date skylights. The roof on our home is very large and it included updating the roof on our shed. All of the old shingles were removed and taken to the dump. The closest estimate was $1100 more and one was even$3000 more. Mike the owner is a great business man explaining every detail of the roofing job. Thanks again Mike it was great working with you. Leon

THANK YOU ANGIE?S LIST! Viola Roofing is A+++. Mike Viola was very easy to work with (6am consultation), savvy, had superb specs in his contract, came fully equipped and showed up with an army of guys and 2 giant dumpsters. When he said 2-3 days he meant it ?even for a pitched roof Dorchester 3 family. Watching the Viola crew became a neighborhood event. Construction workers, mechanics, do-it-yourself types, passers-by, even people that did not usually speak - all commented enthusiastically on the high quality of the work. They really boosted my confidence in making this costly decision. His overall job was so well-done that odds and ends that were not part of the contract now looked dated and tacky. Mike graciously came back twice to answer/ respond to a few issues after the work was completed and tidied up those areas with the same professionalism and attention to detail as the main job -and without further expense. Viola Roofing was clean, accommodating, economical, and excellent. What else is there?
Description of Work: Used Viola Roofing (Hull, MA). After consultations and estimates from several roofers I decided to replace my whole roof rather than just repair one side. Because of the expense of the job I was forced to learn about types of shingles and their Consumer Reports ratings, customer/installer ratings and installation techniques. Viola used GAF shingles and was willing to upgrade the tile to the Ultara HD product that had received the highest ratings - for a modest differential. He also let me trade the Angie's List coupon for a new gutter along the driveway side of the house. Viola used the hurricane nailing system (as I understand it 6 nails instead of 4.) The cost of the whole roof from Viola was about the cost of 1/2 of a roof from one company and several thousand dollars less than another. Even after finding 5 layers of roofing on parts of my house (built in 1927) Mike did not alter his estimate.

Viola Roofing was one of many quotes I received. Roofing quotes varied greatly and Viola's quote was very competitive. Mike was very easy to work with and provided several references of recent roofing jobs completed. I contacted all of them and they were very pleased with his work. After I decided to use his services, I told Mike that I first had to have trees trimmed and chimney work done first. This took about one month and Mike was flexible and patient while I got this work done. When the roofing job finally started it only took two days to complete. I was amazed how nice it looked and how clean the yard and driveway was. I could not find one stray nail anywhere and all debris was completely picked up and removed from the premises. Mike also cleaned my gutters, re-installed screen on gutter and even fixed my wrought iron railing for me at no extra charge. I have another house that needs to have a new roof installed and I plan on using Viola Roofing next spring.

I performed my due diligence and got several estimates for the work. Viola's estimate was not only the lowest, but included use of high end materials, flexibility around gutter placement for aesthetic work, zinc oxide strips to prevent mold and additional soffet vents. The estimate was also printed and detailed - the longest I received and I appreciate the extra information. I then had a couple calls to discuss issues, the date was scheduled and all the work was completed in one day. I had several concerns after the first rain storm, but Mike and crew were back the next day and took care of everything at no charge. I was very pleased with the work and actually referred Mike to my father-in-law.
Description of Work: My house had an old roof which was leaking in several places and only had one non-performing gutter on the second floor front of house. Viola Roofing removed all the old shingles and the faulty gutter. New shingles were put on the roof, bump-out, sun-room, front porch and bay window. New gutters were put on the front porch, front upstairs, back upstairs and the sunroom.

Our 19-year-old rubber roof began to leak during a rain storm, causing our interior ceilings to leak on our second floor. It was incredibly stressful and happened on a Sunday morning (a tough day to get someone to return your call). Mike was the first roofer to return our call and the soonest to commit to a visit, give us an estimate and begin his work. He was very professional from the start. We were impressed by his knowledge and his ability to problem solve since our roof job was further complicate by solar panels.
Description of Work: Mike and his team of roofers removed our old rubber roof and debris from our property. They installed ½” isopoly insulation board on our roof using 3” plates and screws. They fully adhered Carlisle/Mulhide .060 rubber membrane roof system and sealed all seams with 6” seam tape. They installed an aluminum drip edge at the roof's perimeter and flash in with 6” cover tape. Finally, they replaced the existing roof drain and installed aluminum pitch pockets at 44 roof brackets for the solar panels and filled the pockets with liquid rubber.

Mike was really great to work with. He came out earlier in the summer and provided an excellent quote to replace the roof on my aging cape. I just replaced it last week and could not be more happy. His men came out on time, were extremely professional during the process. They confirmed everything me prior to starting the job and with in 1 day had the entire roof replaced. When they were finished, they did an impeccable job of cleaning up after themselves. There was not so much as a nail left on the property. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking to replace their roof.

Mike Viola is a consummate professional. He is punctual, responsive, patient, and cares about making his customers happy. Our condo association called him after a portion of our roof, an upper-floor deck, and the exterior wall of our building were damaged by fire. He gave us a very reasonable quote for the work, got started soon after we contracted with him, and made sure his crew finished within two days. The area was left clean, and the work was done well. Throughout the process, he went above and beyond to make sure we were fully satisfied. Although we had not written it into the contract, he did some additional deck carpentry and asked his plasterer to repair the interior of one of the units - both without charging us any additional money. Viola guarantees his work for 10 years, and as he is a certified installer, the materials he uses are guaranteed for 30+ years. We are already considering asking him to repair our gutters. We are thankful to have worked with him, and we very highly recommend him.

I was a major procrastinator and micro manager. I got 10+ quotes for roofing and it came down to Mike and one other guy. While I didn't really want GAF shingles, I went with the contractor that gave me the most comfort. I did a ton of research and Mike simply seemed like a stand up guy. The rate at which he received positive reviews on Angies told me that he does a lot of roofs and must be doing something right if lots of people (at least 1 a day or so) were saying positive things. I must have asked him 100 questions throughout the process of the quote and final acceptance, all of which he answered quickly via email or via phone call. I had major concerns with my skylights that needed replacement. Some contractors were quoting me 1500 to replace them outside of the roof job, and others were telling me they had to be ordered from Europe. Mike told me it was no big deal and he'd take care of it.I also pointed out some other concerns mainly venting, re-doing some bathroom venting that penetrated the roof etc, and Mike simply made me think it was a non issue and he'd take care of it. Nothing made this guy sweat which really put me at ease. I also want to add that Mike's quote was the cheapest by at least a grand from all the quotes I received. When I inquired costs for upgrades during the quote process, his incrementals seemed way cheap, almost like he wasnt making any money off of upgrades etc.He is just an honest up-front guy. Expect no surprises when dealing with his outfit. Day of the job came and the guys got to work. They made a supreme mess, but thats what roofers do. Mike's guys took care of everything and got the roof done in 1 day. Skylights were a bit tricky as they fit the external opening but they had to cut the inside plaster as my inside openings were smaller than the skylight. I was a bit concerned when I saw all the plaster everywhere, but they cleaned it up. Mike told me his plasterer would be in touch with me to finish that part of the job. Mike collected no money that day until the plasterer started his work the next day. His plasterer was great and took care of everything, including matching the ceiling paint by making several runs to the paint store. The only single issue I had with the overall job was the cleanup. I am still finding nails and bits of old tar paper around the yard, and some of my veggie garden plants were a bit damaged. But, considering the scope of the work and the challenges of my yard, I feel they did the best they could and I am not unhappy. They did do a pretty good job rollering the lawn for most of the nails. Mike did not nickel and dime me for a thing. He did exactly what he promised he would do, and he did stuff not even under the initial contract that involved extra work for him. Not one time did he ask for more money. I seriously don't know how he makes money, but I am glad I used him. I would definitely use him again and I would have him work on my parent's house if they ever needed anything. I only wish Mike would do more stuff other than roof's, gutters and siding. You will NOT go wrong with Mike. He probably will be the cheapest, and that's usually a red flag, But in this case it was a total win. Trust me.
Description of Work: Complete roof replacementStripped 2 layer Asphalt shingle roof, replaced with GAF 50 year shingles. Removed and replaced Lead Chimney flashing. Removed and replaced 2 Velux Skylights. Installed Ridge Vent, Vented Soffit panels. Cleaned up and removed debris.

Based on Angies list reviews I called up Viola roofing and asked for an estimate. Mike Viola came out and took some measurements and wrote up a very detailed estimate. We were happy with him and his estimate and scheduled the work to being a few weeks later when everyone was ready. His team showed up and professionally did all the work much to our satisfaction. Highlights include- A 2-3 day job was done in 1 day, they worked nonstop from 8-4 and amazingly completed the entire project- The roof looks awesome and doesn't leak- On the day of the job I asked for an estimate on some gutter work. Once I approved of that, it was also professionally done and completed on the same day- Mike came back a week later after the job was done and paid for, and hooked up my rain barrel. - They didn't go over the estimate I have no complaints at all, the job was done early and on budget. I highly recommend Viola roofing!!!!!
