RC Hardwood Floors

Richard from RC Hardwood Floors came very highly recommended because of the quality of work he did, and the work he did on our home maintained his reputation. We had Richard tear out the existing pine floors in almost all of our home (except for our upstairs bedroom) and install new cherry pine floors. It was a very large job that spanned almost two weeks and we were very happy with the quality of work done on our floors. Thanks to Richard, our home has a brand new feel to it. The only problem I had with Richard was very very minor--a slight miscommunication about when he was scheduled to come out to give the estimate. No big deal though. Richard was very friendly and knowledgeable about floors, and I appreciated his honesty about his limitations (i.e., not being able to do the specialized work of saving the antique floors. I wouldn't hesitate to use him refinishing of regular floors.

Overall, a good experience. Richard does beautiful work & completed everything in the time frame expected and for the price quoted. The only problem occurred when I came home the second night to find the floors stained the wrong color. I'm not quite sure how this miscommunication happened. I thought I was pretty clear that I wanted them the same color as all the other rooms in the house. However, this was quickly corrected the next day and the floor looks beautiful. I would use his services again.

He was very flexible which was nice. We had an issue with the timing as to when we were closing and when we needed the work done before we moved in. He came out as scheduled and finished the work as scheduled. We were not living there at that time. He gave us a feedback everyday about what was done that day and what would be done the next day which was nice. The work was completed when he said it would be completed. Everything went off smoothly. We did 4 coats and it looks great. I would recommend him to other people.

I thought it was a great experience. We were very happy with the quality of the job, and with their responsiveness. They were very efficient and worked around our schedule as need be. We are very happy with their work. We would highly recommend them and also really liked the fact that they are local contractors as well.

They showed up when they said they were giong to show up, their price was fair, and they did an excellent job. I would be happy to recommend them to anybody.

Great. Richard was very responsive and worked around our schedule. The dustless sanding system works well--very little cleanup involved. Richard and Mike were very pleasant and always showed up on time. They were very professional and did lots of extra stuff--filling in gouges in the floor, staining some floorboards that didn't match, etc. Finally, Richard gave us lots of information about how to care for our floors.

Richard arrived about two weeks prior to installation for measurements and provided an estimate. Materials arrived a few days before he returned to do the job. The job was completed in one day and clean up, including carting away the carpet that had been in the room, away.

New oak flooring was installed in the kitchen and laundry room. Old oak floor was refinished in dining room, hallways and vestibule. We had several contractors estimate the work and Richard was by far the most knowledgeable about wood floors and the process. He also was the cheapest, but the competance was more important. Richard is a personable guy who gives the quote and does the work. To do the installation he uses one assistant. Be prepared for much noise during the cutting and sanding operations. Richard and his colleague sang while working, in accompaniment to loud music. It is a good time to get to the mall. The new wood was delivered about a week ahead of time to allow it to acclimate it self to our house?s dryness and temperature. One layer of two plywood layers were cut out and removed from the kitchen floor so that the new oak flooring could be installed that was level with the adjacent flooring. They installed wood that was 3 1/4 inches wide which looked better than the existing narrow wood (2 1/4 inch) in the dining room and halls. Richard explained that if the wood were wider than the 3 /14 inch, it would shrink in the width portion in the winter, which would look awful, and so this is what we got. It was also sanded and finished with 4 coats of oil based poly. It looks great! They also refinished the dining room and hallways by sanding and coating it with 4 coats of Poly. To minimize the dust and sawdust traveling to the rest of the house, the installers put up plastic sheets over each of the adjacent doorways. Also ?dustless? sanding equipment was used to mitigate the creation of air-born dust. Nevertheless, the entire house was covered in a fine film of dust and required thorough cleaning to get the house clean again. I suspect there is little more one can do to prevent dust when a plywood subfloor is removed, a floor is installed and another floor is refinished. This whole project would have been cheaper and would have created less dust and noise if the plywood subfloor had not been removed, but then you would spend the rest of your days tripping on the height change when going into the kitchen. Far better to do it right in the first place!

This was the best home improvement project I (or anyone I know) ever went through. Richard was great from the moment I contacted him. He asked me several questions about the work I needed to be done and did not quote me a final price until he came to visit our house. Once there, he gave me several suggestions regarding how he would perform the work to make sure our floors look best with the ones we have in the rest of the house (in retrospect, I am glad we followed all of his advice because it does make our home much more appealing). I chose Richard because of this, even though his price was a wee bit more than a couple other guys I spoke to (and who sounded totally clueless). We booked the job about a week ahead of time, and Richard made sure that I got the wood delivered on my closing day. He started work promptly on the following Monday and the fourth coat was done by Thursday afternoon. This amazing turnaround gave me enough time to have a new oak stairway installed, and I asked Richard to come back and do the finishing. After Richard was done with the stairs, I noticed a small imperfection in the last coat of one of the threads. I contacted Richard in the evening and he was there at 8h the following morning to fix the problem. Finally, I changed the color of all the trims that Richard had carefully removed before installing the wood floors. I was in a rush to put them back on the walls since our move was scheduled for the end of the week so, instead of painstakingly nailing them myself, I called Richard and asked him whether he could do it for me - if possible within the next day or two. To my relief he cheerfully accepted and was there the following morning at 8h to do the work. This is what I liked best about this whole project: truly outstanding customer service!! Another wonderful thing about Richard was that he was always very quick to respond to any question I had, often within minutes. He would always send me a quick note from his Blackberry and then follow up with a phone call if needed. The only sad thing is that I don't have anymore hardwood floors to install, so I will not get to use Richard's services until I buy my vacation house. I will make certain that this next house needs lots of wood floors so we can have some fun together again!! In summary, I strongly recommend that you use Richard's outstanding services for your next hardwood floors project - you will not be disappointed!

This guy is great. He came round the same day I called, quoted a very competitive price and actually finished the job a day ahead of schedule. I am very pleased with the quality of the work and was grateful that he made efforts to keep the cost down. He gave advice about how to avoid damaging the floors as we moved back in and followed up a few days later with a phone call to check that I was happy with everything. Very professional and a really nice guy.

We made appointment for an estimate, got a call later that he would not be able to make it, and he requested to postpone it to the next day morning. However, he has not called next day, I called and left a message, got a call back the day after that. I got the impression that this company does not have the professionalism and punctuality to show up on time and do the job on time.

They were very good. They were responsive. They came when they said they would come. They got the work done within the window that they needed to get it done by. They did a very nice job. Cost was entirely consistent with another estimate received.

Richard returned my call the same day I left the message. In my message I described the work. Because it was simple job, he gave me the estimate over the phone. He offered me the option of three or four coats and priced each (four cost $100 more). His price was at least $200 less than another estimate I received. He scheduled the job for the following week. He arrived on time and finished the stripping and applying the first coat in a little over an hour. He returned the next two days to apply the other three coats. Each day he arrived on time. Richard and his co-worker were very pleasant and professional. On the second day, rather than buff the floor (standard), Richard's coworker HAND SANDED the floor to give the next coat a smoother surface. He didn't have to do this but told me the floor would ultimately look better with this extra effort! I as very impressed with the obvious pride he took in his work.

He was very quick and had the best availability. He was very efficient. He was able to start sooner than any one else that I called. The price was very competitive.

I had my house renovated 3 years ago, and the previous contractor butchered the existing floors. RC Hardwood came in and now the floors look gorgeous. Every step with RC Hardwood Floors went smoothly. They came in promptly with a quote: they helped me test a stain to ensure that it reasonably matched an adjoining room: and they completed the work on time with no mess. And, most importantly, the floors now look beautiful, much better than even before the renovation. I m thrilled.

We were very pleased from start to finish. They gave us a good quote - not the cheapest but reasonable. They were on time and they worked within our time constraints. They also did a good job.

I was happy that he was so responsive. Some of the people wanted to take out the floor, and I did not want that. He was able to come out in a weeks time and do the job. He matched the color perfectly and you would never know that it is not a part of the original floor.

Richard was a pleasure to deal with. During the visit, he described the process and recommend approaches to save money. After we closed on the house, they were in for 4 days. His standard is to apply 4 coats which producing a much more durable seal. Highly recommended.

This was the 2nd of a 3-step process of getting all of the floors in our home refinished. Richard and his crew are terrific to deal with and are great at what they do. We are looking forward to having them refinish the final 2 rooms in our home next year.
