Very professional and a pleasure to do business with.
From Angie's List, I found Comfort Upholstery located less than a 20-min drive from our house. I called and was assured they could handle the job. I emailed photos of the furniture to the company and they provided me with yardage needed to reupholster just the spotted cushions and a price estimate. The estimate was reasonable. I wish I could remember exactly what the total cost was. I myself ended up purchasing the sage green sofa fabric on eBay, but Comfort Upholstery's price included the navy blue fabric for the slipper chair cushion and the two new 5" thick sofa cushions. There is a surcharge ($/yard) if the customer brings in his/her own fabric.
I decided to see if I could purchase upholstery fabric by the yard from Crate & Barrel (they do have lots of fabric in stock for situations just like mine). But our two fabrics were outdated because we'd bought the furniture some time ago, and both colors had been replaced with new colors. Then I thought of eBay. To my surprise I found a seller who has lots of Crate & Barrel outdated fabric colors, and AMAZINGLY she had the exact sage green in the right amount of yardage for the sofa cushions. Almost too good to believe; but, the fabric arrived and it perfectly matched the sofa. She however didn't have any of the navy blue color for the slipper chair. I think it would have too much of a miracle if she'd had both colors.
So we made a trip to Comfort Upholstery with one of the navy blue lumbar pillows that came with each slipper chair and the owner pulled out his sample books. Luck was still with us. We found a navy blue/same type of fabric that was almost an exact match to the pillow and was still available to order. So we ordered it and the owner said he'd call (the order would arrive in 1-2 wks) when it arrived and we could bring the sofa cushions and slipper chain in so they get started on them.
We got the call that the fabric had arrived. We took the sofa cushions and the slipper chair (the cushion of chair was stitched to the base and couldn't be separated), along with my yardage of the sage green fabric I'd acquired on eBay and headed out to Comfort Upholstery. We got an approximate date for completion of the job. But when I called to check if the work was done, the owner told me he'd had an emergency with another customer (who has him do a lot of work) and had a critical deadline for getting some damaged upholstery refinished for a big designer open house being put on by a local non-profit. We hadn't even picked out a new sofa yet and we're leaving shortly for two months in FL. So I told him if he got the sofa cushions done before we left, we'd pick them up, take them to my daughter's house so they'd have the sofa to use. The slipper chair was finished while we were in FL and my daughter and her husband picked it up.
I wanted to add one thing about how versatile and adaptable the company is. The sofa has a very deep seat from front to back and was difficult for my daughter to get out of because she has rheumatoid arthritis. I asked about a firmer sofa cushion to make it easier for anyone to get up from the sofa. He suggested we do both firmer cushions and also thicker cushions. We went from 3" deep cushions to 5" deep, and it did make it easier for anyone, but especially my daughter, to get up out of the sofa.
The finished work was superb. I am a little bit of an obsessive-compulsive person who likes thing done perfectly right...even by me. And I was very impressed with the quality of the work on both the sofa and the slipper chair. When all was said and done, I told my husband the furniture looked so good, we should have had the work done for us to keep the furniture in our house! We really wouldn't do that...but I was that impressed with the finished pieces. My daughter & her husband have since had people visit them and sit in their downstairs formal living room (where our "old" furniture was placed) & they've gotten some very, very nice compliments on how nice the furniture looks in their living room. And they are both very happy with how the furniture turned out and what a great addition it was to what they call their "sitting room".
I would not hesitate to use Comfort Upholstery for another reupholsterying job. I've already recommended them to several family members & friends who were trying to find someone to do similar work for them.
