A start date of May 9, 2011 was agreed on with the crew due to start at 8am. The crew never showed up on May 9th and after several calls I discovered they were at another job and would come on May 10th. The workers, when they were sent to my house, did a very good and careful job. The owner had problems with scheduling and everyday I was never sure if they would come or not. Instead of the job taking a week to complete, as promised, it took until July 5, 2011 for them to get back and put the the 1st coat of sealer on the staircase. They have never been back to do the second coat of sealer. Life was in chaos. For 11 weeks I had to sleep on the couch (with a bad back) downstairs as all the furniture in the upstairs was taken apart and moved from room to room while they worked. The scheduling of the job was a disaster all the way through and the owner seemed to have the crew working on too many projects that were not geographically compatible. I liked both the owner, who was struggling with his own issues, and the guys who came to work. They were very professional and did a nice job. I have two dogs, one of whom cannot do bare wood stairs so I had to put a runner back on the staircase. I called Todd to schedule the 2nd coat on the staircase. When he finally came out in May of 2012 he told me he couldn't do it for at least a few weeks because his schedule was full and he also said he would not take up the runner and do the whole steps but just the exposed wood on each side of the runner. That to me feels like a half finished job!! He said he would call to set it up. I have never heard back from him. I did have someone out to get an estimate for the downstairs and their professional opinion was that the job done was okay but none of the nails had been puttied before the sealer went on so as not to show. I am really disappointed in the results of this transaction. I have a half done staircase (and it looks half done) and as a customer I feel really dissed by this business who got paid in full but have not yet fulfilled their obligations to me. The above ratings do not reflect the work of the crew but rather the scheduling and communications of the owner. 2 years later, the job is not finished. The owner is not planning on finishing it, even though he has been paid in full for the job.
Description of Work: I have waited to do this rating of Wentico & Co LLC because the job is still not finished! Todd Wentico came to my house on February 5, 2011 to give me an estimate on refinishing three upstairs bedrooms and a small hallway and the staircase. Two of the bedrooms had places in the floor that had to be replaced. It was decided to use the original wood from the hall closet and then they would use new wood in the closet. It was estimated to take a week to 10 days to get that finished.

Never would use this company or buy a "Big Deal" ever again.
Description of Work: I paid for the Big Deal through Angie's List for this company to refinish my small wood foyer. When they saw my area was only 10 x 12 feet, they quoted me a 6 month wait to do the work and then tried to make ME feel badly for thinking it was unreasonable. I paid the money and never got the work done since I was so annoyed. I told them to keep the money to never contact me for dates 6 months in advance again. I was never offered a refund from Angie's List either when i asked. Beware!

Our home was built in 1959 and previous owners covered original oak floors with carpeting. The floor was in good condition but was dull and had marks from the carpet padding throughout. We had planned to have the floor refinished. Out of the 4 quotes we got Wentico was the only company that recommended screening the floor instead of completely refinishing since the floor was in overall good shape. This saved us half of what we were looking at spending. (about $1500 was the quote for a full refinish with new stain and poly). We appreciated the fact that they didn't try to get us to go with the more expensive option and gave an alternative. The crew arrived on time, was friendly and did the job in one day. Overall happy with the job they did. Only downside we've noticed is that over the past year the poly they used chips and scratches easily leaving marks on the floor. Looking at the floor you probably wouldn't guess it was only done a year ago.

It went very well, the floors turned out beautifully. In the kitchen, when they finished, I could see little pieces of dust and cloth fibers trapped under the polyurethane, but when I called Todd back out to take a look at it, he immediately had the guys come re-do it. The floor is beautiful and I get comments on it all the time. It is in an almost 100 year old house, so the floor is a pretty big deal.
Description of Work: I used Wentico twice. The first time was for my kitchen floor, when I gutted my kitchen and re-did it. I had beautiful old floors in there, but with the remodel, cabinets were relocated and there was no floor underneath them. The guys at Wentico were able to salvage the wood and move it to where it was needed, and made it blend it perfectly. After the repair work was completed, they refinished the floor. The second time I used them was for refinishing 2 bedrooms and a hallway upstairs. There was one place where a wall had been moved and there were some gaps in the floor, but the main guy found a way to fix it and it all turned out great.

Wentico quoted us $750 (after the angies list big deal savings) to sand and refinish with a dark stain called midnight mahogany. However, it became apparent that they usually only perform lighter stains. There were visible halos in several areas after the first round of sanding and staining so they had to resand and start over. When the sales rep or account manager Caleb realized that a darker stain would require more coats of stain, he tried to charge us for it. He did this in spite of stating emphatically that the $750 would be the price to get the dark finish on the swatch. I eventually convinced him that the wording of our original contract made it clear that $750 was their final quote and he finally backed off. I did not appreciate his attitude on more than one occasion; however, the men actually doing the work were delightful.

At first it appeared that Todd Wentico's crew did an excellent job completing the refinishing job in my Carmel condo for a very reasonable price. However once the finish dried it was evident that there were spots of stain in several places, patches of flooring that did not receive the last coat of sealant and uneven coating. I withheld $300 of the $1800 due until these items were repaired. The labor crew attempted twice to make repairs which only seemed to make the finish worse. Within a few months it was also clear that the sealant was wearing off and the woods would be damaged if not repaired. I asked Todd, the owner, to come to view the floor himself, which he did, meeting with my new tenant and myself. He agreed that the entire job needed to be redone and that he would be glad to do it at no extra cost. We just needed to let him know when the tenant could be out of the home for 3-4 days. I called and email Todd in May saying that the tenant could schedule the job anytime during the summer months. No reply. More calls, more emails, even one through Angie's List. No answer. I am beginning the legal process against Wentico for my money back and extra for all the grief to both my tenant and me. DON'T USE WENTICO!!!\Work done at 772 Ivy Lane, Carmel, IN. (I leased it to a tenant and moved to Kokomo.)

The work done was not done to our satisifaction--nail holes left unfilled, carpet cut crooked, one area oversanded leaving a dip in the floor, and color of floor not finished to requested color. After trying to get our issues resolved with Wentico & Co, LLC since last October, the owner finally came back out to our h use in June 2012 to offer us a resolution, which we did not accept.

Dealt with Caleb, he was very attentive and helpful. He explained they could not guarantee to match the existing floors, but would try to get close. The floors turned out great. This is a very old building ( 1873) and the floors were a mess. They did a super job , the floors look great. When they took the old shower unit out, they found that the existing plumbing was not to code, not even close. Also behind one wall of the shower, there was no wall to tile onto! They did a very thorough job in correcting the problems. The cost thus exceeded the estimate, but they were honest, thorough and did not simply cover up problems which the original shower installer had clearly done. My wife and I were away while the work was being done, so they could have done a less thorough job, but they kept us informed and did it right. My only minor complaint was that the clean up was not up to the standard of the work. It was not awful, after all refinishing floors creates mountains of dust, but it could have been better.

Representative came out and was very nice and professional. Gave estimate and I scheduled work to be done when I was out of town. My brother was staying at the house. When I returned the floors were finished but I was disappointed with how they looked. My friend came over to help paint and she has redone many homes. She enumerated all the problems with the floors and said it was a lousy job. The company rep came out and asked what was wrong with the floors, as he thought they looke very good. I called another company for an evaluation and they said the same thing that my friend did. I contacted Wentico and they refinished the floors again. Unfortunately still not right, but not as bad. They didn't come when they said they would, they stayed and worked until after 10p, and after 4 x I am still finding missed areas and problems. The owner came out and gave me an estimate to finish my basement and he was very rude.

We had purchased 2 of the "Angie's Deals" for hardwood floor refinishing ($125 for a $250 value). It was suggested that we install tile rather than try to refinish the floors, which we agreed to. However it took MONTHS to get the work scheduled. We were not given full credit for the "deal" - only the money paid but not the extra (we were given credit for the $250 we paid, but it was for $500 of services). The one day project turned into three days - not a problem since the tile itself looks good, but the finishing was poor - large gaps left that were not caulked or grouted, a door was not put back on the hinges, tarps were left behind, etc. - we were told that someone would return to fix the gaps (I put the door back on and returned the tarps) but have not heard back since the check was cashed.

Everything that could have gone wrong went wrong with our experience. 1. The lead contractor did not tell the sanders that our door was left open for them to come in and do the work while we were out. Thus, the sanders did not do the work on the scheduled day and after keeping my children out of the house until 5:00 pm per their request, I came home to discover no work had been done. The company was not at first willing to work around my schedule to reschedule the work and wanted me to work around a schedule that worked for it. 2. Though I had a written estimation, including carpet cutting and removal, the company insisted that they must charge an additional $25 once the work was completed to re-tack the carpet down that they had cut. 3. The carpet that was cut was cut unevenly, did not all get tacked down, and is now fraying. 4. The floor was not stained as agreed upon and the floor is not even in the same color family as the room adjacent. 5. Most of the nail holes around the base boards were not filled in, so we have exposed black nail holes all around the room. 6. The sander left the sander on without moving it and left a dip in the floor. 7. The worker did not let the sealant dry between coats and now the floor has bubbling across the entire service. 8. The owner has on multiple occasions insisted that the work will be corrected/finished, yet he has failed to even follow-up to our repeated phone calls. We are disputing this service with our credit card provider, as we refuse to pay for a job that has all but ruined our floors.

They had advertised that they would do a 100 sq ft wooden hardwood floor for $250. There was some sort of implication. When I got them out here I had a lot more space here and they were trying to bill me a ton more per sq ft for the extra. So they said that they are going to charge me $200 for 100 sq ft, but for the remaining they were going to charge me $375 a sq ft. It was horrible. I threatened to inform about them to Angie’s List and then after that they agreed to go ahead with the advertised price. They told me that Angie’s List made a mistake on what the real value was. I felt that I should be paying the advertised value for the additional space as well. They got out here and told me that they were going to redo my hardwood floor for that price. Then they said that for the price that they gave me they were not going to have the floors be the color that they gave me before. They were going to give me a really light wood color that looked like an unstained floor. I told them that, that is not what I have and that they had told me that they were going to give me what I had. They told me this after they had already scraped my floor and I had no choice. I had to pay another $300 if I wanted it to be stained back to any color. They forced me and I had to do that. They actually sealed a bunch of dog’s hair into the floor when they did my floor. My entire floor now has dog’s hair sealed into it. It’s horrible. I have probably tried to call the owner 6 times and he hasn’t returned my call. He kept making his sales guy call me back. I told the guy that I didn’t want to talk to him because he hasn’t been able to fix the issue. The owner has refused to call me. I’m very unhappy and at the end of it I told them that I will turn them down on Angie’s List. They said that they will come back and redo a part of it, but I would have to do this and that. I told them that they have to come back and fix it and I’m still going to turn them in. The sad part is that the 2 guys who were here were really nice, but it’s just that the service and the quality that I’m not happy with. They were working very hard, but I’ve never seen people working on a wood floor where they don’t suck all the stuff out and do the work. They would do the work one day and then they would come back 2 days later and they would still vacuum and suck all the stuff out before they seal it. We live here and we have pets. They told me that they would take it right out when I informed about it the first time and they didn’t. It’s disgusting that they’ve left me with a wood floor with hair sealed in it. Their responsiveness is very poor because they never returned my call. I have a business too and I’m on Angie’s List. My husband and I would return every call. We don’t care how mad somebody is, we would take the call and make it right. They probably were out here for about a week or so and it was extremely destructive because it took for ever. We were getting ready to go on a vacation at the end of June and they said that they were booked up for the next 8 or 10 weeks. I asked them to go ahead and finish that and then come back here after all the rush because of the ads that they had placed with Angie’s List. I need to call them back and see when they are going to come back, but I would not use them again in the future.
Description of Work: I used the services of Wentico & Co LLC in July. They removed the top layer of the hardwood floor, re-sanded it down and then they stained and resealed it.

Caleb from Wentico returned my phone call promptly and scheduled a time to meet for making an estimate. He arrived promptly and seemed very knowledgable on the subject matter and what would be involved in the process. I indicated that my wife and I would likely move out while the work was being done and he let me know that we should be able to walk on the floors nightly as the new urethane finishes dry faster. He was able to make me a prompt estimate at that time in my house. Unfortunately his estimate was quite high over $4500. In fact it was nearly $1000 more than the next closest estimate. We were not looking for perfection in our floors by any means and did not feel this was an appropriate price even with the discount. I feel they would likely do very good work, it was just out of our price range.

Received an estimate through their sales representative for installing a fairly detailed tile kitchen backsplash. We needed to have a tile backsplash installed as the final detail of a kitchen remodel. We purchased the tile needed and the Wintico crew installed on the date promised. After a few days of curing, the kitchen looked fantastic and they even followed up a few days later to "touch up" any grout areas. Just what we needed to complete our project.

Sexy and 60-years-old are what my hardwoods are after Wentico finished them! I participated in the Super-Saver offered through Angie with Wentico. Caleb called immediately and set up an appointment that was convenient to me; he showed up on time, was articulate with details, honest about what could and couldn't be accomplished given the age of my floors, and set a date for work to begin. John and Danny, the men who refinshed the woods, anticipated my questions and concerns and were ready to discuss the details with me at each step of the way! They are profoundly professional, do impecable work, were delightful to have in my home, and paid attention to every detail. They even made repairs around my fireplace that were simply miraculous! The final product surpassed all expectations; the floors look like new and have a luster that has become even more beautiful as they've cured. I couldn't be happier!!! As a matter of fact, they are the ONLY people I'll trust the remainder of my hardwoods to!

We purchased a special deal through Angie's List for 100 sq ft of hardwood floor refinishing for our entry foyer. Todd came out promptly to check our situation and see what we wanted. In person, he is a consummate professional, very knowledgeable, and honest. Even though we had 9 sq ft of overage, he did not charge us extra, since we were happy to wait until July to have the work done. When the time came, the refinishing team was on time, efficient, and left no mess or odor at all, and we were able to use the floors (after 2 hours of drying time between coats) the same day after sanding and staining. The second day, the final gloss coat was added. We had to have the guys come back briefly a couple of days later when we noticed that a low spot near the register opening missed getting top coated, but it was not a problem getting it taken care of, and it looks great now. Our entire floor looks fabulous, and has totally changed the look of the front of our home. We have about 3/4" thick hardwood that was highly customized when it was originally installed when our home was new, but it was older, very dark, and there was no real way to properly clean or polish it (believe me, I tried every product on the market). Biw we gave beautiful light to medium oak floors, and the character of the original boards shines through. Even the natural imperfections in the wood only prove that it IS real hardwood, and not just a laminate or veneered product. Even at full price, this refinishing would have been a very good deal for us. I highly recommend Wentico for hardwood floor refinishing. The only thing I would recommend is that Todd try to be a bit more responsive to phone/email messages. I know he was overwhelmed with business after the Angie's List special, but sometimes there were delays in communication and/or multiple attempts were required to get a return call from Todd.

I purchased a Big Deal through Angie’s List. I had them come out to give estimates; he acted like he was doing us a big favor and the scratches on the floor were a huge deal. We weren't able to schedule this for several months, but when we finally did schedule the work, he never showed up. He admitted that it was his fault, so we re-scheduled again. When they arrived this time, they never rang the doorbell, so we didn’t know they even were there. My husband called them to let them know someone was home, but they didn’t want to turn around even though it was only 10 minutes after they had left. They were angry and wanted to charge us an additional $50 for gas to come back the next day. We ended up just getting a refund for the Deal.

Todd came out and after seeing the floor, convinced us that, though our oak flooring had been mis-installed by our builder's sub-contractor 19 years ago resulting in numerous gaps between the boards, he could fill the gaps and refinish the floor to like-new condition that we would be happy with, without having to replace the flooring at roughly five times the cost. And he and his guys did exactly what he said. We had a knowledgable person ask recently "Who installed your new floor?" The gaps are all but invisible, and the floor looks absolutely like new! We definitely recommend Wentico & Co. for any wood flooring work.

I purchased the super-saver deal through Angies List. The salesperson called me very quickly to arrange a visit survey the work needed and give me an estimate. Due to the popularity of the super-saver deal, I couldn't schedule the work for a few months which was fine with me. The sales person and I emailed back and forth several times and finally locked-down a date about two months into the future. The evening before the work was to begin, I called my salesperson to confirm that we were still going start the next morning. He assured me that everything was still a "go." The next morning, ten minutes before the appointed time the crew was supposed to show up at my house, I received a call from my salesperson telling me that the crew would not be coming that day and would come tomorrow instead. The holiday weekend had thrown off their schedule. I was not happy because I had emptied all of my rooms, arranged my schedule around that start date, etc. I asked the salesperson if I could get an additional little discount due to the inconvenience and was told "No. You already got the Angie's Super-Saver discount." I persisted by explaining how much work I did to get ready and how their delay was going to affect my familiy's schedule. The salesperson said., "Sorry, that's construction." The crew, (Kevin and Brian) arrived on time the next morning and got right to work. They were great! They told me about the process they would use on my floors. When we discussed the stain color, they said that they were not told to re-stain the floors but to leave them in their natural state. I told them this was unacceptable as both rooms emptied into a hardwood hallway and although I did not expect a perfect match, I needed the floors to blend together. I told them that the sales person and I specifically discussed it and I remembered telling the salesperson that I didn't expect it to look like the floors in the bedrooms and hallway were refinished at the same time, they needed to "blend." Brian and Kevin assured me that they would get the color needed, not charge me for the more expensive stain, and make sure I was happy with their work. I had to giggle when I went outside and overheard one of the crew members on his cell phone yelling at my salesperson saying, "You've GOT to make sure we have what we need to make our customer happy!' I later learned that my salesperson was still relatively new and that perhaps that is why he wasn't as detail-oriented as he needed to be. In the end, my floors turned out beautifully. Although there were ups and downs as far as scheduling and details, the end result was better than what I expected.
Description of Work: Wentico stripped, sanded, and refinished my hardwood floors in two bedrooms.

Caleb, the sales manager said they couldn't business for what the coupon said and that Angie's List had misprinted it. I ended up paying about $300 more than I originally thought because of the price difference. I think very highly of Angie's List and I really dont think this is Angie's List fault. The company has to agree to the terms before they offer a big deal. I just didn't really appreciate his tone with me. The work turned out very nice and I thought very highly of the people completing the work. I felt for them. They seemed like had a lot on their plate when it didn't seem to be their responsibility.
Description of Work: I purchased a big deal from this company.

Went well from start to finish--we were in part of the home rather than away--would go away in the future
Description of Work: Wentico refinished our wood floors and applied a water resistant poly in the utility room-the kitchen and family room.Top notch job. The workers were great. I cannot recommend them enough--better job than any company we have used in the past-some of which are on Angies List. Karen Mccallum
