+ -1 moreThe purchasing and installation process went well. This is the second Kinetico system that I've bought, so I knew what I was purchasing and am glad to pay for it. The sales agent (Steve Glaze) was very forthright and honest about everything. The installer (another Steve) was very professional and quickly figured out the best mounting method for the equipment in my basement. I'm quite satisfied to be back on a Kinetico softener--something I know won't break down, lose power, or waste water and salt by regenerating too often.
Description of Work: Had them install a water softener in my house. This included a bit of creative plumbing work to attach to my existing plumbing in my 97-year-old house. I also purchased a reconditioned model instead of new, saving about $1200.

After I decided to go with Kinetico, the installation was set up at my convenience to coincide with other work I was having done. The installer was professional, efficient and friendly. The system is performing as designed and I'm very happy with the entire process.
Description of Work: I replaced an old softener with a Kinetico 2060 system. I also bought the IF80 Kinetico Iron Filter.

+ -1 moreFrom the start, our representative spelled my husband Tim's name as Kim (I hate it when they can't take the time to get it right). They scheduled it for 8/10/07 and I took the day off; they never showed. I called our representative and he said somehow our contract was deleted, great. So we rescheduled and when they came out the second time, they didn't have the right instructions. They had we wanted it in the basement and we actually wanted it in the garage. We specifically had the conversation with the rep that carrying salt down a flight of stairs would not be something we wanted. So, after having another day spent at home...no water softener. They needed some other equipment if it was going in the garage. On the third trip, it was installed but now had a leak that the installer couldn't fix. So finally on the fourth trip...we have soft water. I think customer service would dictate a call to apologize for all of the inconvenience or even a small financial break.

We had scheduled a water test and the saleman didn't show up, after a phone call they totally admitted it was their mistake and offered $100 off and 3 additional bags of salt if we we chose to go with them. Dennis came out the same day that I called to report the mishap and was very helpful in helping me understand how the system worked. He tested our water which was AWFUL, leaving orange stains on our clothes in the washer, turning my hair orange/brassy, clogging up our fixtures, cloudy in appearance in the baths. After researching other systems, we chose them. They called 3 days prior to install date and asked if we would like them to come the next day because they had an opening so we got the system 2 days earlier than expected. I noticed a change the very next day. We could not be happier! Our clothes are cleaner, soap usage is less, baths running clear, the taste is better and the fact that their system in non-electric is great-operates on its own water.
Description of Work: Kinetico came out and tested our water (we are on a well) and suggested what system we should go with. They looked at our old softener and water conditioner which was not working. They came out and replaced the old system with a new water softener and whole house filter system. They hauled away the old system at no charge after we had emptied the salt from the brine tank. The guys installing were great and very polite, cleaned up the mess and were in and out in about an hour. After connecting the Kinetico system they showed us how to operate it and how to bypass it if we ever needed to. After letting it run for a couple of weeks, our salesman, Dennis, came back out to retest the water, brought extra salt the installers did not and made sure we didn't have any additional problems. Great Angie's List discount, 10%, adds up on an expensive system! Price seems expensive but it is so worth it when you think about how many things are being damaged by very hard rust and iron filled water.

+ -1 moreThe initial sale process went very well. The sales folks were professional and responsive to our inquires. Friends of ours had been thrilled with their Kinetico water softener that they have had for 25 years (not purchased through the office @ 3880 Pendleton Way). Only a few months after the installation the water softener stopped working. After paying $88.50 a technician said that some debris caused the debris to malfunction. The softener worked ok for a few more months. We had to pay another $88.50 to have a technician come out and do the whole process again. The problem has occurred now a THIRD time! The service person in the office insists we talk to the Field Technician. The Field Technician will not return our calls. We are stuck with an expensive nonoperative water softener.
Description of Work: Purchased and had installed a Kinetico Model 60 Water Softener.

+ -1 moreThe representative, Karen Blackburn, called to follow up with me several times. She was informative, personable and professional. When I informed her I was concerned about the poor reports from Angie's List, she was surprised to learn it and said most customers are pleased. The price was much higher, but she alerted me to that in the beginning and said compared to other companies, Kinetico is the "Cadillac" of models and has many more features.
Description of Work: After reading Angie's List reports which were not favorable, I chose another water softener company. Also, the new home builder we are using prefers to work with another company so the installation would have been difficult.

+ -1 moreSalesman said that he would come back within 30 days to re-test the water and make sure that everything was working OK. He never did. After a few months, we noticed that we had a leak under the sink coming from the new equipment. By the time we managed to get a service call in to the company, they charged us an additional service fee - for what was clearly a fault in the original installation. Had the salesman checked back as promised this should have been detected and remedied earlier and without any additional charge.
Description of Work: Installed a whole-house water softener and an under-sink, drinking water purification system.

+ -1 moreThe initial visit went smoothly and we opted to purchase a softener system. We opted to finance through Kinetico. The installation went was good and on-time. However, we had to call them back out twice, once because our washer was not filling. This was due to sediment in the pipes. Second was because the salesman forgot to put on the work ticket that we wanted a spicket installed. The real problem was once we received our first statement to pay for the softener and noticed the interest rate was 20%. We called and said this is ridiculous and they said they would get back to us. They called back and because we got the Angie's List discount there wasn't anything they could do. They did get it down to 13% which is still too high. We ended up getting a credit card for 5% and paid off their finance company. We were unhappy with the whole process. We love the softener and their product, just not the service.
Description of Work: We called Kinetico to come out and do a water test on our well system. We were already sold before they came out.

Description of Work: We had salt delivery - but did not complete the filter change because the price we were quoted was not the price they were going to charge. I asked how much the filter change was going to be, and he quoted me $94. When the tech showed up, the price was $94 PLUS the cost of the filter. I did not have the filter changed.

+ -1 moreThe presentation was very thorough. The salesperson was very knowledgeable about water systems. When he presented all the options and different systems I had a fairly good idea on what I wanted. Their systems were more expensive than what I had budgeted for and I shared that with the salesperson. The salesperson continued to press me for a decision that day. I told him that I needed to look around and didn't want to make the purchase that day. His response was ''don't you like me''. That remark was quite the surprise as the issue was not about him but the cost and needing more time.
Description of Work: To check water for hardness. Show systems that would work in my house to resolve problem of hard water.
