This was a rather pleasant experience. The technician was knowledgeable, courteous and professional. I'll have no problem hiring again in the future. The price was reasonable.
Description of Work: Refrigerator stopped working; the freezer side was working fine but no cold air was sent from the freezer the refrigerator side. The 2 air ducts between the 2 sides were frozen shut. The technician fixed the problem on the spot. He cleaned after himself and he gave me a few pointers on how to avoid the same problem in the future.

John is the epitome of professionalism. His work was efficient & our impression is that we received quality work from a qualified individual. He answered his phone, confirmed appt 2 hrs before arrival (he even called the day before to see if the day & time worked for us) We are going to recommend him to all our neighbors. dryer made a metal vs. metal noise...washer......could not diagnose agitating while filling because it wouldn't do it, but did notice the agitator wasn't working, Replace a part, and gave me an option to replace another part preventatively, which I did. Very pleasant and professional.

The washer would not drain or spin. A phone call to the company was made requesting assistance to decide if we should repair a 10 yr old washer or replace. After checking new washers we decided to repair so call later in the day and left a message (past closing time). Mr Mathew called back the next morning. He came that afternoon. He diagnosed the problem-the washer wouldn't drain or spin- as a defective switch and promptly replaced it. The cost was less than what Sears wanted for a service call. We mentioned we had a problem with the dryer squeaking. He took the time to check the type of pully it had and replaced it with a roller and a new belt. His knowledge of the type of dryer we had was helpful in fixing the problem quickly and inexpensively. He shared some helpful information with us and we were grateful to have the problem with the washer resolved as well as the dryer squeak which was annoying. We would definitely hire him again.
Description of Work: Replaced lid switch on washer. Replaced pulley roller and belt on dryer.

He wasn't able to commit to a time when I called for appliance repair, though I had told him when I was available. He was not willing to make an appointment to come to my house. The whole thing was bizarre that he was unwilling to make an appointment. I was giving him large blocks of time.

The customer had time but it was 2hrs blocks earlier than what I could make work. I am a owner operator I do all the work myself. So even though she had time it wasn't enough time for me to work the days she had available. I do have to,at times, tell a customer that we can't accommodate them. Is it not better to be honest with a customer and tell them we may not be able to make it or have them wait all day then call and say we cannot make it. I find it bizarre, myself, that a customer will find the time to file a report on Mathew Appliance on the basis of the inability to make an appointment!

John figured out the problem right away. It took less than an hour to fix.
Description of Work: John unclogged a drain in my Frigidaire freezer and chipped away the ice that had formed on the bottom ofthe freezer. What I appreciated the most was that before he came out, he called me a couple of times (before the problem was diagnosed) to see if the freezer had started working again on it's own.

Great experience with this company. I would definitely hire again.

John was professional and personable, and he fixed the leak we were having with our dishwasher (the dishwasher door needed to be tightened so that it would seal). He gave us several good tips on dishwasher maintenance as well. He was running a bit late that day, but we appreciated that he called to let us know that and to give us an updated arrival time.

Our Coldspot Freezer, which we've had for about 35 years, developed an intermittent high-pitch whine. Because of the age of the appliance I was concerned that parts might not be available. Mathew Appliance Repair was able to locate a replacement fan motor and install it without any difficulty.

The service was quick & professional. He had definite opinions on what we should do as for replacement options, so that was good information to consider when we decided to replace our dryer instead of repairing it (even though we didn't heed his opinions, at least we knew our "risks"!).
Description of Work: Our dryer went out. My husband tried to replace the heating unit, but realized we needed to call someone in. We called Mathew Appliance Repair & were able to get an appointment fairly quickly. He was prompt & professional. He gave us our options on repairs, and gave us time to consider what we wanted to do. We ended up just replacing the dryer, but he was available to us as we needed more answers as we researched our options.

Called the phone number listed at 11 AM and phone was answered by John. I explained that I have a refrigerator that is having some problem keeping my food cold. He asked for my phone number and said that when he calls back he would like the make, model and serial number of the refrigerator. He called back only two minutes later. All was great up to this point. He asked if I would be home today and I said I could be after 3:30 PM. He said he might be able to come by but would let me know. I explained that I was also available on Friday after 1230 PM. I did not hear back until 2:52 PM (at this point I was about 20 minutes from my home and also did not hear my phone ring.) He left a voice message saying that he could be at my place by 3:30 but would have to know right away if that was okay. I called back at 3:09 PM and explained that since I had not heard from him earlier, I went out to run errands. He said that he was just trying to work me in which I totally understood, although I felt it was odd that he did not immediately ask if he could schedule an appointment with me for Friday so I decided to take the initiative and ask if he could call me and let me know what time he would be able to come on Friday. He informed me that "it would be like today" and that he could not give me a time because he was not sure when would work for him. I said that I really would like to have an appointment set so that I could plan my day but that was not something John was willing to do. Instead, I just said I would go ahead and try to reach another appliance repair person with whom I could schedule an appointment time. It was just odd that he could not accomodate me as a scheduled appointment time but rather expected me to keep several hours open just in case he was able to come consult on my fridge problem. I provided a grade of "A" for responsiveness because the 2 times I called, he answered right away. However a "D" for overall experience and professionalism because of the fact that I was not offered an appointment time. I never felt as though my time was valuable, only his.

Actually, I told the customer that I don't give appointments but that I call in the morning of the day and give a 2hr window. So we would call Friday in the 8-9am to give a 2hr window. I understand some people want an appointment and I don't give them. Again I do give 2hr windows the day of the service call, I also call when I am on my way, and also suggest if a customer can leave a key or give me a garage key code. Again I am the one who runs the business and preforms the service calls. So I don't have an employee who would be coming into an unattended house. For all of my customers these options work.

He was helpful over the phone, and came at our convenience. Work was done efficiently , without a mess. Since then it has worked like a charm. He also recommended a microwave repair person for us, who performed excellent work. Not only am honest, competent repairman, but a 'good neighbor'. Willing to advise in other areas at no charge. On another occasion, he walked me through a problem, so I could fix it myself. This man has his heart in the right place.

John schedule an appointment and arrived promptly. The ice maker on the refrigerator had been replaced by another company a few years ago. The water feature was not working. The fill valve had to be replaced. Now the water is working properly.

I called on a Monday morning. He was able to schedule an appointment that afternoon.
Description of Work: Dishes were cloudy after running dishwasher. John came out and determined that there was not a problem with the dishwasher. We needed to turn the hot water heater temp up and run the hot water up to 125 degrees before starting the dishwasher. Also, he recommended using 1 tablespoon of Cascade granular detergent.

It went very well. John is very personable and we could tell that he had a lot of experience. We found him to be very honest, explained what was wrong, what he would do to repair the washer, etc. He saw something that didn't make sense to him and he consulted with a colleague. He told us what he was going to do and if it didn't work there was one other thing that could be wrong and he told us how he would approach fixing the issue if what he did didn't work. He was right on, because the first fix was what was required.
Description of Work: Washer stopped spinning. John really knows his stuff and had it repaired within an hour or so. We will use him for repairs in the future.
