There were certainly some bumps in the road between the first and second job because we obviously hoped that the first job would fix all our water issues as the spillover problem was the only one we had experienced prior. However, after talking with many of Perma-Seals representatives, we got a fair resolution to the second problem as well.
Description of Work: Perma-Seal actually performed two jobs for us. The first was in April 2010 to fix the spillover on our foundation walls in the crawlspace. To fix the problem they installed a submembrane on the outside of the home all around the crawlspace. The crew was very courteous, did good work, and cleaned up after themselves. That fixed the issue. The second job was to fix a problem with our sump pump which began overflowing during heavy rains. Perma-Seal ran a brand new pipeline out to the curb from the sump pump so there would be no resistance as they suspected the sewer line it was previously tied to was giving. They also tied in our downspouts and previously installed outside drain tile. Again the crew was great, paid attention to detail, and cleaned up. They took great care in making sure our yard was put back together after they dug the trench.

This is the second time I've used Perma-Seal and I am very pleased with the quality of services they provide. The first time I used them (October 2009) was to install drain tile to waterproof my basement. I called Perma-Seal to get an estimate for work that I needed done prior to remodeling my basement. The estimator showed up on time and provided me with a thorough quote and also provided some helpful suggestions to consider. Before I signed the contract, I was told the specific date on which the work could begin so I could plan accordingly. The installers arrived on time and installed a new sump pit, sump pump and window well drain in about three hours. They used a basement window to enter and exit and transport any equipment and materials they needed which avoided tracking dirt through the house. They also neatly patched the concrete floor where needed and cleaned up when they were done. It was obvious that the installers were very experienced in their trade. Based on my experience with Perma-Seal, I highly recommend them.
Description of Work: 1. Installed 36" sump pump pit and 1/2 hp Zoeller sump pump. 2. Installed window well drain. 3. Patched concrete floor where needed.

Asked for call back from their website. Got a voice mail the next evening saying they were about to close for the day and I should call them. Called back the next afternoon and was on hold for about 15 minutes before I hung up. Business must be good but not good to make a customers wait that long.
Description of Work: Tried to get a quote from them to install a back-up sump pump which they advertized as a service they provide.

They were nice and professional but they wanted to do a complete remodel in my basement and floors at an estimate of $15,000.00, of which I though was high and didn't need this much flood prevention.

We got an estimate for their basic service of waterproofing our basement and in our case the initial estimate included an assessment that we already had a sump pump. We were told it was old but functional by the house inspector when we bought the house and the Perma Seal estimator agreed with this when he looked at it. We accepted the proposal and proceeded with having our basement torn up for their waterproofing, and only THEN did they figure out that this supposed sump pump was NOT a sump pump but a flow regulator between our house and the main sewers. This error in the initial estimate resulted in a lot higher cost and trouble getting the job competed - plumbers had to be hired, city inspectors had to be coordinated to verify work met code, etc. Some of the plumbing cost was waived, but not all and in general there was not the appropriate response from Perma Seal in dealing with all the extra change, stress, etc., that resulted in the larger, more expensive scope of the job when this "not a sump pump" issue was discovered. The work crew was great and efficient when doing their part, they cleaned up as expected, but overall this error in assessing our basement for the estimate left us very frustrated with their service. There was some water discovered in a part of the basement after they did their work (a hard rain a few weeks later) and we contacted them and they did take care of it in accordance with their guarantee. We have been satisfied with the basic waterproofing product.
Description of Work: Waterproofing our basement - digging into the entire interior periphery of our basement, laying their channeling materials, re-cementing this periphery. Included destruction of finished and unfinished basement areas.

The 2 workers arrived at the time I expected them (even a little early). They called ahead to be sure I was expecting them. One of the men dug down along the foundation outside the house all the way to the footings by the crack in the finished area. The other man worrked in the basement in the unfinshed area applying apoxy to the crack in such a way that it filled the crack completely. Then he went outside and worked with the other man to complete the repairs on the outside. They then filled in the hole outside and cleaned up inside. The inside repair left an odor in the basement for a day or two and the outside repair left a small mound of dirt. Both of these were things I expected -- they told me ahead of time to expect them.
Description of Work: I had 2 cracks in my basement wall which was causing the floor to get wet every time in rained. One of the cracks was in an area that is finished. That crack caused a large puddle to form after only a moderate rain. The other crackis in an unfinished area near the furnace. That crack was less bothersome. It only caused a small puddle when it rained a lot over several days.

We got several free bids from other companies and ended up having another company do the repairs. We were very satisfied with the other company.
Description of Work: We were in the process of buying a home. We had an accepted offer on the home and wanted to get bids on repairing cracks that were found in the home inspection. Perma-seal advertises free estimates but said we would be charged $65 for the estimate because we did not yet own the home.

Response from Perma-Seal Basement Systems
We provide free estimates to the owner of a home (or their authorized agent). For prospective buyers we will give an honest and frank written assessment of a foundation’s condition and an estimate of needed repairs. For this service we charge a prospective buyer a $65.00 inspection fee which is credited towards the price of any future work done.

Perma Seal came to make the repairs and found another crack in the foundation and included that in the repair process. I was given a discount in the price and they finished the work in just half a day. My house went on the market soon after that repair and I sold it in four days. PermaSeal has always been a good service provider. I would definitely use them again and have recommended them to many others.
Description of Work: In preparation for selling my house, I had a home inspection which found four crack in my foundation. Wanting to be prepared and have the house prepared, I called PermaSeal. I had used them in the past when I had rental property and was pleased with their work.
