The company was established in 1972 as P&J Heating and Air Conditioning by Pete and Jim. In the late 1980's, Air Wise and Best Heating (established in 1948) joined the family and American Comfort Heating & Air Conditioning was formed. The year 2003 is here and American Comfort joins a national franchise to offer clients a higher level of service. One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning is here for the residential customers while maintaining the American Comfort name for the Commercial side of the business. It may seem like a lot of change, but, it was all done under one of the original owners. To this day, we are still family owned and operated.
Went very smoothly from start to end. Very thorough!

Ed, the technician was very knowledgeable, courteous and professional. He showed me a drain T that had broken during the inspection and told me they would replace it at no cost. It took almost a month because the manufacturer didn't stock the part and Ed found the parts to make a replacement. I think they went beyond the norm to make things right and will definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Annual safety inspection of two furnance units including the use of a special high resolution camera on the older of the two units. Both units were inspected and cleaned. The Technician, Ed, explained everything he noted during the inspections in simple terms. Everything was handled very professionally.

I paid for Angie's List Big Deal 506825, $99 for two HVAC Tune-ups Plus a 1 year Service contract from American Standard One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning.. When they came out they charged me an additional $163 to change a $10. part which took them an additional five minutes. I am a senior citizen on a fixed income and felt the charge was excessive. I asked for a refund of a portion of that charge to which they agreed but when I got the bill I was charged the full additional $163. Upon a follow-up call, they agreed to remove $88 dollars, but when I got the credit card statement, they had charged me the full amount. I am still waiting for the credit to appear. I think their Big Deal was a come-on, lost leader so they could charge me an additional charge, which was, in my opinion, excessive. I do not want to use this service again and would ask for a partial refund of my original Angie's List big deal since I do not want their 1 year service contract and will not let them set foot in my house to perform the air conditioning service in the future. I think this Angie's List Big Deal was an Angie's List Big bust and I have no confidence in this service contractor. How it ever got on Angie's List is a mystery to me and is the first time I have ever been disappointed by one of Angie's Big Deals. The company kept telling me about their "business model" and how they needed to make a reasonable profit. I felt I was being taken advantage of since I have used other service providers recommended on Angie's List without feeling like I was being taken advantage of and I might have been charged for the part, but not a minimum of a half hour labor when others charge by the quarter hour. I felt like the $99 Big Deal should have been better screened. I would not use them again and recommend that unless they change their "business model" others should do the same and look to other well qualified service providers on Angie's List
Description of Work: As a fulfillment of an Angie's List Big Deal I had One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning come out and service my furnace. They performed a routine inspection and during the inspection discovered a low voltage in my motor's capacitor. The initial visit was part of the Big Deal and cost $99 for two inspections (Fall and Spring) and a one year preferred membership. The charge for the replacement of the $10 part (I looked it up on the internet) and service time was an additional $163, which I thought at the time was excessive considering the part cost $10 including shipping and the labor time spent was no more than five minutes since the service provider had the part on the truck. As a result, I would never have these repairmen repair anything because they add on excessive (in my opinion) charges that should have just been a small additional fee because they were already on site and had the part on the truck. I felt the $99 was simply a lost leader so they could pile on additional charges for doing something that should have been partially covered by the initial fee. They did a visual inspection using a remote camera and suggested my furnace was nearing its life's end and also suggested a new piece of government regulation would force me into getting a new type of furnace going forward. They also tried to sell me additional duct cleaning. I felt some pressure, but resisted. When I called the company to complain about the $163 additional charge being excessive, they initially agreed to take off $88 in what I would call "lets make a deal". When the bill came, the full $163 charge had been added to my credit card. I called again, and they said it would take up to another 30 days to get the credit to me, even though in my initial call to them they claimed they would remove the $88 within three days. I regret taking this Angie's List Big deal because of the add on charge that I felt was way out of line with the costs involved to fix this part. I did not like the absolute refusal to be reasonable at the time of service, leaving me to have to allow my credit card to be billed. I also did not appreciate the subtle "scare tactics" of telling my furnace would eventually need to be replaced. I would not use these providers again, despite the fact that I have a year long contract and can schedule a service call on my air conditioner, for fear they would find some add on charges when they may or may not be needed.

We are sorry that you feel our special was meant to be a “Loss Leader”. Our focus is NOT to get in and get out with as much as we can, but it is to maintain a relationship with someone for many years to come. Aaron was out at your home on the 20th of December. According to our GPS, he spent 1.5 hours at your home which includes the cleaning of the furnace, safety inspection of the furnace with the camera, and letting you know what needed attention. In the end, it is your decision to take care of the problem or just let it go. In your case, you decided to take care of the repair to avoid future problems. Parts can be ordered through the Internet, but the part would still need to be shipped to your home. In our case, we have someone in the office that has to order and maintain truck stock, answer phones, dispatch calls, etc…. We also warranty the repair for two (2) years, AND, if you are a club member, you will never have to pay for the same repair twice. All furnaces do have to be replaced at one time or another. Your furnace did pass inspection and can be kept running until it is either deemed unsafe or you decide to replace it. Coming in May 2013, there is the new law in effect which the DOE mandates any furnace installed will need to be 90% efficiency or greater. This does not force someone to replace their furnace, but it does limit your options. Our Philosophy at One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning is “100% Customer Satisfaction” – “You Cant lose, EVER” – “On time delivery of services”. As you can see by our reviews, we will make mistakes, but when we do, we stand by our work and make it right, delivering what we promise. We did not refund a portion of your money “To make a deal”, we refunded it because you felt taken advantage of and we wanted to try and make things right by you and deliver our philosophy of “100% Satisfaction”. Again, I am sorry you feel the way you do about our service and can only hope we can continue to show you why you cant lose with us in the future.

Aaron from One Hour Heating and Air was terrific! He was very professional, polite and worked very clean. He was happy to take his time and explain everything he was doing and why. I told him that, as a new home owner, I didn't know a lot about HVAC and wanted to know more. He was very generous with educating me on what the different parts of our system do and how various scenarios could play out for our 27 year old furnace. He spent about an hour onsite, which was more than I expected for a deal like this. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

I called One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning Friday morning and was told a technician would be out in the afternoon. He called when he was on his way and showed up at the beginning of the window I was given. He first checked our thermostat and then went to the furnace. After describing what was happening he immediately knew the problem was a dirty sensor. He cleaned it and replaced it and looked over the furnace. It's great that they have experienced people.

I initially thought that my thermostat was causing my unit to malfunction, but wasn't sure. Technician arrived within time stated. Nice individual. Explained a lot about my system, including a diagnosis from both controls to unit itself. Completed the service check, added freon, examined and fixed the thermostat, suggested newer cost efficient filter for me to use in unit. He cleaned and inspected system and got the unit working and left in approximately 2 hours. However, original issue was still not fixed becase thermostat would not turn off the unit and the blower after reaching 72 degrees. Another technician came out the following day, dispatch was able to get him in right away. Inspected the blower and the thermostat again, stated that the reason that the unit could not be shutting down is several reasons. One might be the relay switch, the other may be the thermostat, or that the unit may need to be replaced. Technician set the thermostat at a higher temperature and waited until the thermostat turned the unit off. It did, and he initiated this twice more. However, upon his departure I set the thermostat to 72 degrees and again, the problem was not fixed because the unit would not turn off when reaching the 72 degree mark. I raised the thermostat to 73 degrees and the unit finally responded, turning on and off as needed throughout the day. My next task will be to replace the thermostat and determine whether it will shut off automatically at 72 degrees. They did contact me after my initial comments. They didn't charge me for anything and resolved the issue. 8/18/11

I am sorry you were dissatisfied with the service call. I will call your home and would like to schedule a field supervisor to visit your home and go through system with you. On the first visit, Jeff was able to change the batteries on the thermostat and discovered when it was installed the wires were stripped back too much and may have caused the fan to run at all times. He also found the unit low on Freon when you were all on the roof of the building. The second technician arrives and was unfortunately unable to duplicate the problem. He did mention it could be either the thermostat or a relay in the unit, but did not want to change any parts out w/o knowing what the actual problem was. Seeing that when you turn the thermostat up to 73 degrees and the unit shuts off, it could be just normal operation of the thermostat. If you set your thermostat at 72 degrees and the unit keeps running, it may be that the temperature has not dropped below the 72 degree mark to satisfy the desired temperature. I would also like to suggest that the blinds are shut at all times when the sun is on the eastern exposure. With the blinds open, it will cause an increase in temperature in the rooms exposed to the sun which is what the thermostat is sensing.

They realized that the pump they were thinking of wasn't the right size. They got the size that would fit and it was a much higher cost--almost doubled in price from what they originally quoted. The work they did was okay, but I wasn?t real happy with the salesman and the way they did their billing. The air conditioner was broken, and I called them for the repair. They said if I chose to replace it instead of repairing it, they would give me a $400 credit on the new one. When they did the paperwork, it wasn?t on there. When I called to ask them about it, they told me it was included. However, as far as I am concerned that is a kind of a shady practice. I would like to see something in writing instead of just saying that it is included. We worked the numbers backwards adding it up and then deducting. I just didn?t like the way they handled that. I will not use them again.

When i scheduled the appointment the office clerk said they would be at the house at 8 a.m. sharp. i received a call about 8:25 that the technician would be there shortly. i believe he arrived around 8:40. he did perform the work in one hour, but i was late to workan additional 40 minutes because they did not arrive on time. Technician tried to sell me the "repair plan" which includes once a year cleaning of each heat and a/c. i was pretty much on board with this until he told me it would not include the work done that day. also, what added to the cost was the diagnostic, most companies deduct the cost of the diagnotic from the work. i would possibly call them again because i believe the work was done well (we will see as we begin to use the heat this fall), but i was put off because they were late and i thought the cost was too high. ***After placing my report, i was contacted by American Comfort, who has made every effort to rectify the situation. i was VERY IMPRESSED with their concern that a client was unhappy with their experience. they listened to our story and refunded our service call. we will indeed call them again next spring to look at our air conditioning system.

I have talked with the member in regards to the above service call. As the company motto states, "Always On Time, Or You Don't Pay A Dime.." , we will be issuing a full refund for the service call. With every service call, there is an evaluation fee for diagnosing the system which should have been told up front prior to the technician arriving at the home. I have talked with the Client Care Department and have asked them to make sure they are sharing this information so this does not happen again. We do make mistakes, but hopefully we have met your expectations and looking forward to exceeding your expectations in the future.
