They dealt with my insurance company after my initial claim. The roof looks great, and the workers cleaned up well. They seem to specialize in storm damage.
Description of Work: They replaced my roof due to hail damage. Some of the vents were replaced as well.

Our house sustained significant hail damage to our roof, siding and window casings in April 2010, and after interviewing several general contractors, we decided to hire Apex to do the work, based upon their reputation, BBB rating, and the personality of the representative we met with initially. The Apex rep met with our insurance adjuster and the work was approved. Apex was very helpful in explaining the process, going over materials, and working on our time line at the start of the process. Unfortunately, after the work was approved by the insurance company, everything that could have gone wrong did go wrong. First, not only did Apex fail to pull any work permits (despite assurances that they would do so), they were also not licensed by our city to perform the work. We did the research ourselves and had to make several calls to Apex to make sure they obtained the proper permits and licenses before work could begin. Next, we scheduled the work to be done on a particular date and my husband stayed home from work to make sure the job got going properly. No one showed up, and no one responded to our calls and messages. After an entire work day wasted, we received a call (early evening) telling us the crew would show up the next morning, so I stayed home from work the next day. Again, no one showed up, no one responded to our calls. After several messages left, we received a call from a manager who said the crew was on its way to begin work on our siding within the hour. The crew showed up several hours later (mid-afternoon) with no materials. They left, and returned again several hours later with the wrong materials. Work was not able to begin once again. The job was rescheduled again for 7 a.m. Saturday morning. On Saturday, the crew was on time, but again with the wrong materials. After waiting almost an hour for the project manager to show up, and leaving several more messages for him on his cell phone, the project manager finally called us back and admitted he was an hour and a half away because he "had trouble getting out of bed that morning." Work was rescheduled again due to timing and the crew had no materials. Several calls to the manager who previously helped us went unreturned until several days later. The work was eventually done satisfactorily - there were a few small problems, which were corrected within a few days. The crew members/laborers who actually did the work were very pleasant to work with and we have no complaints about them. They did an excellent job and our home looks beautiful. The management of the project, the lack or responsiveness, and the lack of professionalism from the project managers and the company as a whole was extremely upsetting. We requested several times that a different project manager be assigned to complete the job; our requests went unanswered. I would never recommend this company to anyone - my husband and I lost several days of work and 2 full weekends of our time as a result of the botched project that should have taken 2 days (one day for siding, one day for the roof). We understand there is a certain amount of uncertainty when it comes to construction work, things take longer than planned, etc., but a little communication and respect for our time (and for the work crew's time) would have gone a long way.
Description of Work: Replaced roof, cedar siding, and window casings damageds by hail. Worked with insurance company to obtain approval of and payment for the necessary repairs.

Response from APEXteriors
Emily, I have been very disturbed by the review that you have posted on this site regarding our company. Everything that you have written here is very uncharacteristic of the services we provide. Upon investigation by my office staff, it is my determination that an even bigger problem exists. There is absolutely no record of you as being a customer of ours in our system what so ever. There are no estimate forms, proposals, work orders, or purchase orders of any type at all. It is my belief that my company has had no contact with yourself or anyone at your address at all. To further complicate the matter, your insurance company has called our office today. They are trying to pay us for our services that they say we provided you. I have refused to accept payment as my company has done no work on your home. This information was also conveyed to your insurance company and they did not know what to do. We had asked them if they would please give us your telephone number so that we may contact you regarding this matter, however, they would not give that information out. Your insurance company did tell us that the supposed sales representative from our company was named Patrick and they did not even have a last name. There has never been anyone named Patrick under employment from Apex Exteriors, Inc. I am not exactly sure what is going on with the work on your home, but it sounds like someone has been up to some fraudulent activities. I am unable to contact you as I do not have any of the pertinent information to do so. So, it is in my hopes that you will read this and please contact my office at 847-531-8960. I am hoping that we can talk and help both of us get to the bottom of what is going on. Sincerely, Ken Girard President Apex Exteriors, Inc. .......................................
