Heating and Air Conditioning Service
On 06/08/2013 he did the installation. It was the first time I began to get suspicious, he had alcohol on his breath, looked hungover and tried to get me to pay in cash and I said no. He then told me to make the 2nd check out to him personally. The first was made out to the business. Looking back there was a twofold reason for this, first he was probable not intending to pay income tax on this money and second he did not want me to have a chance to stop payment on the check if I happened to discover the scam right away . He intended to disappear as far as I was concerned. My furnace is enclosed behind a paneled wall. He did not put the panels back properly and I will need to hire a carpenter when I can save up the money. He had adhesive all over the wall and on the light switch.
In July I began to use the A/C and found it was undersized and would not cool the entire house adequately so I had to supplement it with small fans to find relief. It was very loud. In November I began to use the furnace and found out it too was undersized and it would not heat the entire house adequately. I had to supplement it with three space heaters. It was also extremely loud. As a comparison when I am in my brother?s house I can barely hear his furnace running. He did not install a Carrier it was a generic that I have never heard of.
During the winter it was extremely dry in the house. The humidity was so low it would not register on our meter. We could not sleep well at night because our mouths and noses was so dry. I would have to get up several times to get a drink and water my nose. I later found out he did not give us a humidifier. It will cost me at least $340 to have one installed.
My hot water pipe for the first time ever freezes up on cold day right by the area where the A/C pipe comes in from the outside. He had removed the dryer vent also to work on the A/C pipe. These pipes were not adequately sealed up to prevent the cold air from getting in and freezing the hot water pipe. I now have to let the hot water run slowly until I can save up the money to get this repaired, It also takes more heat to heat the house now due to cold are coming in. Note that the cold water pipe did not freeze up as is was farther away from where the A/C pipe and dryer vent.
On 01/22/2014 the furnace would not start. Again he would not return my calls.
I called Rice Heating & Air Conditioning who came out and found a loose switch, Confirming the shoddy installation. They charged me $86 for work that Joe Meo had quaranteed. When the panels were removed to inspect the furnace insulation material was found all over the place, again confirming the shoddy inspection.
On 06/27/2014 I again had to call Rice Heating and Air Cond. Inc as the upper lever thermostat would not turn on the Air conditioner. They found the thermostat wired wrong and charged me $108.00 to rewire it.
On 07/11/2014 I again had to call Rice Heating and Air Cond. Inc as water was leaking from the air conditioner so bad the tiles from the lower lever kitchen were coming off the floor. They found the drain for the humidity removal water was plugged so that the water just overflowed thr reservoyer and flooded the kitchen. They charged me $86.00.
So far I have had to call in Rice 3 times to fix a brand new installation. I was very lucky they found the problems quickly as it could have been a lot more expensive.
Background: During the summer we spend most of our time on the lower level and only used the lower level thermostat. Last summer we didn?t use the AC much as my wife worked outside the home and I was always working in the yard or in the pool. Also it was not a very hot summer. I did occasionally see some puddles of water on the kitchen floor but was unsure of where it came from as the furnace and AC unit where totally enclosed by panels. I assumed it was from a sink overflow.
This summer my wife has been working from home and uses an upper level office. Thus, we began to use of the upper level thermostat for the AC and the running of the AC all day after the thermostat was fixed. The lower level kitchen was flooded by the time we noticed it.
