Concrete Hero

Well, since I dealt with Pete last year and loved the service he provided, I was very excited to use them again. The service started with last years driveway that was poured (in Oct..not even a year) having a hairline crack from one end of the drive to the other end (across). We discussed the crack over the winter and Pete said he would pour new cement and fix it when he did the porch and stairs. That was great news. Then, when he pored the concrete for the porch he told me the driveway would never match because he was using a new concrete guy. Okay, what to do..He said he could patch it since we didn't want a million colors of concrete. From that point, he finish the steps and porch and sealed them. I called to tell him there is a huge stain on the concrete porch..almost as if something was laced there when they sealed it. The hairline crack still looks terrible and I am convinced that it will get worse. He told me he would fix it if it gets worse, but I have never heard from him about the stain..and I sent my check because I am a woman of my word. I don't believe the story now that the concrete would of been different colors because where the sidewalk and the porch and driveway meet, they are EXACTLY the same colors. Somehow, I feel the work has changed. I even had a neighbor stop and ask about the porch and then say, "what is that weird stain". Needless, to say I did not recommend them to my neighbor, nor would they of used them after seeing that. It's too bad, because the second time is usually a charm..not in this case!

Catalano was extremely punctual, provided many references locally, kept us fully informed of schedule and performed the entire job on time and to all local specifications. In fact they provided extra touches needed to control water flow. Obviously does the job right as the vilage inspector said the base and pouring meet or exceed all local specs. Definitely worth a call for a proposal for your work.

Everything went well. Very nice people to work with. Family operation. They were very responsive.

Made two separate appointments to get an estimate for the replacement of my driveway and then took time off of work to be sure I was at home for the scheduled appointments. The first time the contractor never showed and did not call until the evening telling me that they had mechanical issues with their truck. We then scheduled a second appointment. Second appointment, contractor call before the appointment saying they may be late, then another call to tell me that they were not going to make this appointment either, more mechanical difficulties. My only conclusion is that they have poor equipment, or no integrity.

First I want to say that Sal and Pete and the crew did an outstanding job on my patio. They were very professional and worked hard at doing the job exactly as we wanted it. Do to a fence in the way they had to dig and haul away all the material in wheel barrows and afterwards haul the concrete in the same way. In the process of doing all the above they were very careful and did no damage to our lawn or house. Sal even caught a mistake I made when I made out the check for payment, he pointed out that I wrote it for more then I owed. I give them a top rating and would use them again as well as recommending them to others.

On June 11, 2013 I entered into a contract with Catalano Concrete (Sal Catalano) to completely replace my asphalt driveway. Cost of the project was $7,800. The project was completed the second week of July 2103. This spring, March 2014 we found the driveway to be scaling and spawling in several areas. On April 24th Peter Catalano came out and took photos of the damaged area. He indicated he would get the concrete company to come and inspect to see if the proper mixture was used. On April 28th I emailed Peter Catalano and asked if he had any idea of a solution or timing. He responded on April 29th that he was still waiting to hear from the contract company. On May 13th I once again emailed Peter to see if there was any update. On May 15th Peter indicated he was still waiting on the concrete company. On May 17th I emailed Peter once again and expressed my displeasure as to his customer service. It appears as he just wants me to go away. On May 19th Peter responded that they take customer service very seriously (even though he has provided me no update since we made him aware of our problem). He then informed me that the problem was caused by salt which is not covered by their warranty. This assessment was done without any testing, or additional inspection. In addition we have never used salt on the driveway. Peter proposed that a solution may be to patch the affected areas and seal the entire drive with a colored sealer. However they are very busy and there is no timeframe or even assurance this will ever be done. The drive is progressively getting worse. It is crumbling even on the walk ways and areas not used by vehicles. I am extremely dissatisfied with this company!!

All work was completed in about three days even with weather constraints. Price quoted seemed good compared to quotes by other companies. Work was done for price quoted. High quality. Very professional. Owner of company took an active part in all phases of pricing, design and work.

They were very professional and courteous and kept me informed as to the progress and process of the job. I would definitely recommend them to anyone who needs concrete work done.

I wanted an estimate on a side service walk and patio stoop. I emailed Catalano through the Angie's List website but I never heard back.

The owner was very responsive and prompt. He gave us the most professional estimate of all the companies we contacted and it was clear from the very beginning that he knew the product and its application. The work was started on the date and time promised, and the owner kept close supervision of all the work through the entire process, stopping in several times a day each day of the job. We were very happy with the end results and have received many complements on our new patio. We will use Catalano again for all our concrete needs.

They did a wonderful job. I was very pleased with the service. This turned it in to a new garage for us. They seemed to have a lot of experience behind them. Pete Catalano was the person that I spoke with and he had his father come to make sure the support beams were the correct ones to use and he was the one who suggested the beams. They knew how to install the beams and they were able to buy the beams as well. It meant a lot to my husband and myself to have the confidence that they would do the job right. They were professional and they showed up on time and did the work that they said they would. The cost was fair as we had received quotes prior to the work. Just by talking to them, I could tell the experience that they had.

They had told me that they will get my driveway done by end of September. They were honest and accurate. They did make sure that they got it done by that date. Peter, whom I worked with was very nice and Johnny on the spot. He was very kind and willing to work with you. He came up in a couple of days to give me an estimate. His mom answers the phone, she is very pleasant and nice. His father came to work on the concrete; he also was very nice and pleasant. His workers were very incredible and clean. Everything was cleaned up. It was finished on time and they were great people to work with.

It went well enough to begin with. I had a little bit of a problem with the form work, it shifted. I think it will be alright though. The technique that they used with the concrete mesh seemed to be a little out of order.

End result was great! Excellent customer service and good price. Will definately use in the future and would highly recommend. Thanks Peter and Sal!

This company was excellent. They arrived early, began work right away, and had everything poured and smoothed by early afternoon. They removed all the old concrete and hauled it away. All the employees were very professional.

Once again, Sal Catalano came through with a great concrete job at our house. We have used Catalano Concrete in the past and had more work to do this year. Sal came to the house, listened to what we needed done, measured, went to his truck to figure out the quote and in a few minutes we had a proposal on the spot. No waiting days like other companies. We accepted the proposal and made a date to complete the work. The crew showed up right on time, tore out all of the old crumbling concrete and had the new areas formed, stone base poured, compacted, re-bar put in place and cleaned up the first day. The crew was back the next day to pour the new concrete and did a great job. Finished and cleaned up the same day. Catalano Concrete will always be our concrete construction company of choice!

We had a long cracked driveway that we had been putting off repairing for years, mostly because we didn't want the hassle of finding and dealing with a contractor. Finally, we decided it had to be done. I met with about 10 contractors, and felt very comfortable selecting Catalano Concrete. Their pricing was very competitive, their BBB rating was excellent, and their approach was very professional. Sal (dad) and Peter (son) Catalano did not disappoint us. They were always on time, dependable, responsive, and professional. It was clear that they take a great deal of pride in their work and their reputation. They seemed to have a great crew of hard working guys who worked very well together. Sal was present and working alongside his crew for most of the removal, pour, and finishing work. Peter frequently touched base with us by phone and e-mail, and came back a few days after the project was done to add a few requested finishing touches. Overall, they showed up when they said they would, they did what they said they would do, they did it for a good price, and they made it all pretty pain free for us. It has only been a week since the driveway was poured, but it looks great. I would highly recommend Catalano Concrete and would definitely hire them again for any future work we need.

The owner from Catalano Concrete was very professional and courteous. Gave us our estimate which was very reasonable. Once the contract was signed and the Village permit was received, the work took about 2 1/2 days. Very pleased with the results. I would highly recommend this company. We are planning on having our driveway replaced next year and will be using Catalano to do the job.

I stopped at a brick supply company and asked if they could recommend a brick paver contractor. They recommended Sal Catalano and I saw him on Angie's List also. He came to see our property in June. He gave us addresses to view his work. None were in our area that we could see as they were patios. He is professional and busy. By the time we got our village permit and chose the brick he was not available to begin until November. The work was done in a week and it will look even better after the sealer is on. We are very happy with our investment as we see this every day and it has been easy to snow blow and shovel this past winter.

They came in at a mid-price and had a good reputation. They did a very good job and were able to do some extras that other contractors did not want to do, including my gate and some brickwork on the side of the driveway. This company finished the project on time.

Catalano Concrete was extremely responsive and professional from start to finish. The woman on the phone was very courteous when I called to set up the estimate appointment. Sal, the owner, is a great guy to deal with. He accomodated me on setting an estimate date and time that worked for me. Plus, he was just as accomodating when I asked him to come for second estimate when I wanted to expand the job. Sal was also a huge help getting all the appropriate permits in Arlington Heights. His crew was very professional. Sal came to inspect their work every day. Sal also put extra coats of sealant on the concrete to make sure the work would look good for years to come. Finally, his crew did a great job cleaning up after the job was finished. I felt Sal was upfront and honest about the whole job. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to my family and friends. Just a top-notch outfit!

I received an estimate for work to be done in spring 2013

From the start, I was impressed with Sal. When he came out to estimate this relatively small job, he discussed it in detail with my wife and myself. He answered all of our questions. He did not hesitate to say what was needed-and moreover, what was not needed. His thirty plus years of experience was evident in his well thought-out answers to our questions. I liked the way that Sal left a detailed written quote for us to evaluate, in contrast to a couple other contractors who would only provide a verbal quote, where it is hard to remember the specifics for comparison purposes, or provide an e-mailed quote only after a significant time had passed since our initial contact. In addition to being the lowest estimate, this quote included crushed stone subbase that was almost twice as thick as that which would have been provided by one or two of the other contractors(The quality of the subbase is a major predictor of the longevity of the end product). Sal also replaced the garbage/recycle cart apron extension so it now looks professional and no longer requires weeding due to plants growing up between the seams in the pavers (This was done at no extra cost-Sal made a nice job of this additional work.) Throughout the project, Sal was easy to work with-his people skills are A+. They left our property in better shape then they found it. We are very happy with the results.

They did a wonderful job. Sal was here supervising the work 90% of the time and when he wasn't here he came back after his crew left to inspect the job. Before and during the work, Sal responded to our calls and questions very quickly. He was very professional as was his crew. No complaints at all. I would recommend Catalano. May 7, 2013 Just wanted to provide an update. I called and spoke to Sal about a month ago regarding a crack in our driveway that has appeared. Granted it seems like a hairline crack in one square and travels below the surface into another square but it's still upsetting because the driveway is less than a year old. Sal said he'd come out to take a look but I don't think he has. Haven't heard back from him.
