I requested quotes and met with a number of companies. By far, I enjoyed meeting with John. He was informative and thorough at our meeting. Given the information provided, and our own research, I also felt as though our values matched up nicely. So much so, that we planned on using EDI services, given the quote was reasonable. However, we were never given our quote. We were strung along by a series of emails, and then received no more responses. I have tried many times to reach out for the quote, and after that, to inquire as to what happened. Again, no response at all. Now, after waiting so long, we have to start the entire process over again, and as it is October, we essentially have no hope of getting a new roof this season. I really hope our current last through the winter. This is entire unprofessional behavior, and I grow so weary of companies that make promises and do not fulfil them. We should at the very least be treated with enough respect to be given an explanation as to why they cannot or will not perform the work.

They got the roof done quickly and work was done well.

Very happy. Highly recommend. The people who did the work just really excellent cleanup. We never had any problems with it. If we had any concerns they got back to me right away.

I have had the pleasure of working with John Gallagher, owner, of Exterior Designers, Inc. (EDI) several time over the past twenty years. I first met John as a young new homeowner. We needed a roof and also were in the market to replace the outdated aluminum siding. I always begin a job with at least three estimates, and we were working within a budget. EDI was not the least expensive but was the only company whose owner (John) came out and explained what was needed and what was not. While the other estimates were eager to make the most of our service call, John suggested getting a layer placed over the original roof at a less expensive cost to us. He also advised it would probably last about seven to ten years. Additionally, while other contractors tried selling us high end siding (cedar), John explained that while cedar would look nice, it comes with a lot of maintenance and in reality, the neighborhood tended towards vinyl. Again, he could have talked us into a more expensive choice, especially since my taste and budget is not always in sync, however, he did not. He steered us towards the more economical choice. Our layover roof lasted 19 years without even one leak! That’s great craftmanship. And my siding looks as new as it did when we first had it applied. This summer when I decided to replace the roof in its entirety, I called upon John to do the job. Again, he came out and explained all the options. He does not attempt to sell the best product as many contractors do. Rather, he listened to what I wanted and steered me towards a mid-range quality roof with the architectural shingles I desired, while working within my budget. I highly recommend EDI as they are an honest, trustworthy business who provides quality work. I give them an A+. Thanks, John Gallagher, for another wonderful home improvement experience!!!

Installation went very well and the installer Witek was prompt, courteous, and paid attention to any issue that arose in a professional manner. The area was cleaned up every day at the end of the shift. John the owner visited twice during the week to check on progress and follow up with any questions that may have arisen..

We are delighted that we chose EDI for our siding and gutters. The craftsmanship and attention to detail was outstanding. A pleasure to deal with and I would definitely recommend them.

John Gallagher/EDI is the REAL DEAL. John knows his industry inside and out. I spent much time, researching contractors and products, and was fortunate enough to cross paths with a guy that my wife and I really connected with. He has a vast knowledge of products (in our case windows and siding) and enlightened us immensely. His sales approach is friendly, helpful, and competitive. The job started within 1-2 weeks of the scheduled start date (outstanding considering the above average amount of rain days this year) and finished up in about a week and a half. EVERY person that worked at our house was a craftsman: highly skilled, professional, friendly, and just great to have around. The finished result was amazing.

Juan Gallagher did a great job. He is very hands-on and did an excellent job. Price was very fair for all the work completed. He also installed all new gutters on my home last Spring.

This review is coming pretty late, but John's work is outstanding. He is a little pricey but well worth it. My parents have used him for numerous repairs, etc. so I decided to try EDI out too. No regrets and super happy with the work done. Top notch! Will define use him for my next projects!

John (owner) answered all our questions, returned all phone calls promptly + dropped by to inspect work. There was a problem with the stain on the door + John had it fixed quickly.

I interviewed them but decided not to go with them. I thought very highly of them. They were very good. He was very thorough, he explained all the options, he seemed to be very capable, he knew his materials and would've seemed to have done a good job with installation. I just decided not to go with him because I found someone who I felt was more experienced with my particular problems I have with my house.

This was a very large project over several weeks. Owner John Gallagher is direct, honest, responsive and committed to quality. While the price was not the lowest we selected John based on work he had done for others we talked to, his involvement in the local community and his commitment to quality. All work was completed to our satisfaction in a timely manner. The roof was completed over two days. The project was challenging due to the mature landscaping that surrounds the house. Roofing is noisy and messy by nature but the project was finished efficiently with only minor impact on the landscaping. We had several areas of concern (e.g., flashing around chimney) that were addressed appropriately as per the proposal discussions. The siding was completed by one installer. While this elongated the project he was very meticulous and clearly took a great deal of pride in his work. The quality of his work in particular exceeded our expectations. There were some add-on costs which were discussed at the time of proposal and/or during the project so there were no significant surprises. John kept in touch with us (both by phone and site visits) throughout the project to answer any questions and to address any concerns. We had one minor issue (around the inside window trim which occurred when the siding nailed in) which we noticed after the project was finished. John's crew addressed timely and resolved to our complete satisfaction. Overall we are very pleased with the project and love the new look.

The owner of this business sent us a very skilled workman from Poland to install new siding on our garage. He removed the old rusting metal siding and installed beautiful red vinyl siding that matches the bricks of our house and cleaned up all debris.

Our roof was replaced last year in late November, it was one of the last jobs John had to do before weather gets too cold to install. I am writing this review 10 months after the job completion. We have been enjoying the beautiful look of the new roof, and also tremendous energy savings and comfort it had brought as a result of the installation of the ridge vent! In the past 10 years living in the house, in most summer days, the 2nd floor gets really hot even with A/C, sometimes unbearable, now we know it's because air in attic was not vented out efficiently with traditional vents. At the first meeting with John, he gave me an in-depth 'seminar' on roofing materials and suggested ridge vent, which is very popular in the south. This year through out summer, we have been having cool 2nd level temperature with min use of A/C, never a day uncomfortable like before, even if it's super hot out. What a different it made! John only uses one of the top ranked shingles on the market, it has proven to be worth the investment, the quality and the nice upscale curb appeal. John was honest, sincere, and very knowledgeable. I highly recommend them to anyone needs a new roof. I am so glad I found EDI, instead of like everyone else on my street, who were not well informed, ended up using storm chasers for their roof jobs, all used the cheapest/poorest quality shingles (Tico), and ignored cold temperature restriction on roofing jobs, I literally saw my neighbors had their roof replaced in the snow when temperature was in the low 30s. When it comes to big job, you have to choose a reputable, local company that you can trust, and EDI is a hidden gem in Naperville. Their price is on par with other well-established companies.

John, the owner, was very good to deal with and accommodated our wishes. Witek, the installer, was a perfectionist and did a great job.
