In all fairness, there were other mold specialist companies that also failed to reply to my query, but I was disappointed that such a highly rated Angie's company failed altogether. Again, to be fair, I put out my inquiry just a day or two after the Chicago area experienced our epic flooding last month. I explained in my message that my job was unrelated to this flooding and was likely to pale in comparison to the other more sizable jobs that were likely soon forthcoming for MIS. However, to this day, I still have yet to receive a phone call back. It appeared to me from reading reviews on Angie's that MIS somehow worked with another mold remediation company, so I contacted them instead and they came right out to survey my issue, tear out the affected area, treated the mold and recommended a contractor to do wall repair/painting. I think MIS could probably do better than they did, but again, while they failed in my opinion, they were just average in terms of the other response I got (or didn't get).

Curt came out to inspect mold in two floors of our townhouse. He did a full inspection, including checking adjacent areas for moisture, wrote a detailed report and also did air samples in several areas of our home. He said he would call with the test results by Friday, and he contacted me Thursday evening, with good news that our tests were all okay. He provided us a full report and contacts for a mold remediation company and water specialist. He was on time and was able to explain what should happen in the next steps.

Curt was polite and courteous both on the phone and in person. He offered to come out the same day I called-a big surprise in light of the flooding that devastated our area during the 09/08 storms. Curt performed "visual" tests and could not find signs of mold. He smelled a rancid smell in a corner of the office and took air samples. Curt typically recommends taking three air samples, but given the potency of the odor, he decided that only two were warranted (a savings of $125 to me!). Curt later notified me that the petri dish for the non-office air sample was defective and he refunded $125 for the faulty sample. I was impressed by Curt's honesty-he could have done three air samples, as he typically does, but he chose not to perform unnecessary testing; he could have remained silent about the faulty petri dish, but he chose to take the high road and inform me of the error and issue a refund. I hope I never have need for a mold testing service, but if I do, Curt has my business!

Curt arrived right on time and I've got to tell you, he has one of the neatest ladders I've ever seen. He came prepared and the inspection did not take too long. He explained everything to us about mold, what caused our problem, how to remove the mold and left a written report which included a recommended Mole Removal Option. He even recommended someone to correct our attic vent problem (we used them and they were great, Attic Air) which was the cause of our mold problem and he also recommended a company to remove the mold. Curt was very professional and knows his mold.

Although the price was very high, it's nice to deal with someone like Curt who is professional in every way. He inspected rooms that were suspect and provided next steps for us and described what would need to be done.

The gentleman who did the mold service for us saved us enormous trouble. He was an excellent specialist in the area of mold inspection. He was a very nice guy. I feel thankful we found him and hired him to do the inspection. He also helped us in saving tons of money.

Overall it went very well. They were on time. I found them on Angie's List and they had good rating. I would recommends them to others for the services. It went well.

After an unpleasant ordeal with two other inspectors that was inadequate and irresponsible, Mold Inspection Specialists came and did a thorough visual mold inspection and offered advice on how to abate the mold. The representative was polite, and took the time to explain the details of my situation, as well as mold problems generally. He was quick to come to my place after I discovered the problem and, while there, he answered my questions clearly and thoroughly. Furthermore, when I had a quick question for him two months down the road about paint, he called me back promptly and was very helpful.

When I first called Mold Inspection Specialists, LLC, the owner Curt Mankoff answered the call directly and walked me through the service his company performs and quoted me the flat rate for his services. I wanted to check out a couple of other companies and thanked him for his time and stated I would get back to him if I decided to use his services. What was holding me back is that his company did not remove the mold or determine where it was coming from. After doing a bit more research, I decided to have Curt come out and provide his evaluation as a starting point. We scheduled a date and time for him to come out within the week. Curt showed up right on time and evaluated the mold. He believed it was confined to one area and immediately recommended a Mold remediation company to remove the mold. He even called the owner and left a message describing the job that was required and providing the owner my contact information. Curt left a written report of his evaluation with me and that was it.

Curt was great. He is a straightforward inspector but yet doesn't frighten you with thoughts of toxic mold! Our experience began with a phone call: he spent a decent amount of time coaching me through the first steps of mold removal and recommending companies that I could call to put HEPA air filter scrubbers in our house. He then visited our home to visually check the surfaces and inspect the air quality. He was very conscientious of our budget and very respectful throughout. All of his recommendations were written down for us in very understandable terms. Although I hope to not have to use his services again, I most definitely would if necessary. I like the fact that he is not a remediator so there is no conflict of interest.

Curt came to the house and within a few minutes verified there was mold and indicated the key sources. He provided a detailed report which helped us get appropriate remediation from the previous homeowners. Since the work was completed, I have seen him mentioned several times in the Chicago Tribune as a mold expert as well as in national publications. He is a respected and knowledgeable mold inspector.

Curt was professional, courteous, prompt and very informative. Turns out we did not have a big mold problem, but he did give us pointers to get a few problem areas corrected. If only all businesses were run as professionally as this one.

As a result of a faulty roof, we had mold growing throughout our bedroom ceiling. Curt came out and tested the quality of air throughout our house. He concluded that the mold was contained to the ceiling and then consulted us on the proper steps in getting it re-mediated. My wife and I felt very comfortable with Curt's consultation and felt he had our best interest in mind. I would highly recommend Curt and would not hesitate to call him again if need be.

I think the grades that I have given speak for themselves.

Overall I'd give Curt an A on professionalism, promptness and knowledge of his craft. He courteous, informative and methodical in his approach to investigating the problem. I would I hire him again you bet I would. Thanks Angie's list for your service.

Curt was great, prompt and on time. He talked us through everything he was doing and showed us examples of the mold he found. He provided a written report detailing the work that was done and his suggestions for remediation.

Mr. Mankoff returned my call very quickly. He was in the neighborhood and offered to come over in 20 minutes. That was just great. He inspected my basement and detected the source of the moldy smell. He is very pleasant, polite and honest.

From my first conversation with Curt, I knew he was someone I could trust. He was a straight shooter and wasn't trying to sell me anything above and beyond my needs. He was professional, prompt, and personable. I would hire him again for a home inspection and would recommend him to anyone looking to sniff out mold.
