The owner, Curt Mankoff, listened carefully to my concerns, made time in his schedule to come to our home the next day and conducted an incredibly thorough visual exam and took air samples from all floors and an outside sample as a control. He showed great concern and called me with the lab results on the very next business day. The report showed NO presence of dangerous molds whatsoever. His quality work and quick response not only saved us potentially thousands of dollars in unnecessary remediation based on the previous fraudulent test but also gave us great peace of mind regarding our children's health/safety. Curt was very professional, helpful and given some great advice. He arrived on time even though I was late, he was very patient., calm and professional. He went up the ladder of my attic, stay there and scan the area with his flash light. He came down and gave me a detailed report on his visual inspection that I have mold and later I decided to get air samples in my crawl space and the results came back that I have mold there too. He responded very promptly and always return my call or text. Now the thing that I was shock was the price of the visual. 290.00 for a visual is kinda insane after I've had a chance to check out the other competitors here. You go up the ladder and you don't go around inside the attic and scan around on the ladder and come back down and charge 290.??? At least, go in and give the impression that 290.00 was earned. I'm sorry, that is just outrageous from what I've checked around here afterwards. The prices were more reasonable around Angie's list.. As far as sample test. It's pretty standard price. I think most shoppers are looking to get value for their hard earn money. You will then always get repeat customers with value and service. If the visual was half the cost of what I paid for? Then yes, he would've gotten an A for everything.

If you ever suspect you have toxic mold START the process with a seasoned MOLD professional, Curt. Do not go with a generic home inspection company. I was in a situation where we were starting to cycle thru mold testing cycles - it was getting very expensive (at ~ $500 a pop) and we were not getting any guidance about where the source of the mold could be from the testing company - just that the results say there is toxic mold. Curt was able to guide me - tell me what most likely happened, what to do / what not to do, and guide the mold remediation so we could be clear that we had cleaned up fully - so we would know if there was an additional source of mold. As a result of his guidance - we were able to completely clean up all the mold and get out of the cycle of mold testing. In hindsight, I wish I had known about Curt and would have used him for the MOLD testing because he provided clear guidance about how to handle the situation. I did not get this from the existing home inspection company that was doing the testing. As I had already started with an existing home inspection company, it didn't make sense to switch companies at the point we were in the process. Curt guided me and didn't charge me for his guidance. Curt is a true professional and knows his business. It was a pleasure to work with him.

Curt did a great job with the mold inspection. He was extremely flexible with his calendar, very knowledgeable about mold, and responsive. He was able to educate us about the differences in the type of mold and how to remediate it. His mold inspection report was provided earlier than anticipated. In addition, Curt only does mold testing and no remediation which I preferred because it means that he was objective and independent in his assessment. I would definitely use him again and recommend to others.

Curt is very knowledgeable; he quickly surveyed the area and explained his approach to testing; the cost of testing is largely based upon the number of samples taken; He focused on areas where mold would likely grow and avoided tests near cracks likely due to structural settling (not water). He was quick to respond to my service call and test results were available within a week. I strongly recommend his services.

During the monster rain storm of April 2013, our home lost power and although our battery backup sump pump worked - it could not handle the duration of the power outage based on the amount of water. We were lucky with only 1/2 inch water in some parts of basement...but the damage was done. We had professionals some in to clean up all the damage and had carpets, pads and some drywall replaced. Additionally, over the last 3 years we have had a few roof leaks in different places that we did have repaired. Fast forward to 1.5 years later - after having a higher level of sickness by everyone in house over a period of months - I thought it would be smart to have the house re-checked for any mold - on all surfaces where we had water leakages and have the air tested for mold spores. After reviewing all providers on Angie's...I called Curt at Mold Inspection Specialists as well as 2 other providers. I called Curt on Wednesday, October 8th and he explained the prices for his labor, as well as the cost for each air sample. Very straightforward. He said he could come out the next day, Thursday, October 9th. Since neither of the 2 other providers had returned my call, and the price seemed reasonable for the size of my house (9000+ sq ft including basement, with 5 separate attics) I told Curt that would be great. Curt is very professional...explained everything he was doing...told me the minimum number of air samples required versus what he would recommend based on our prior leaks and where people slept, etc. We agreed on the number of samples...he inspected the entire house, including all 5 separate attics...and did all the air samples...and gave us his preliminary feedback. He said he would ship samples that evening and have the results in 2 days on Saturday, October 11. Sure enough, I got a call on Saturday morning from Curt with the results, and he also sent a 15 page detailed report to me electronically while we were on the phone. And he gave us the name of someone he felt was capable of doing all the remediation (who came out within 3 days and provided a very reasonable estimate within 2 more days). If you have had water problems and want an unbiased, independent report of any mold or possible mold spores in your air...then hire Curt for a fast, professional and detailed analysis at a very fair price. Cant recommend enough.

Our experience with Curt was excellent, very professional and informative. He called back promptly. Before the appointment was made, Curt explained his services in detail - cost, testing procedures, potential outcomes of the inspection, and options if the inspection process came back positive for mold. I knew what to expect form his inspection and was able to explain this process in detail to my husband. Curt arrived the next day for the inspection and proceeded to explain his inspection process again. I was anxious and he answered all questions in a professional, detailed manner, and I understood his answers clearly. After his inspection, he again explained what the potential outcomes may be and how we would proceed if the outcome was positive for mold. Curt said he would have the results in two days. He would write a report. However, the results and report were completed the following day! Curt called and left a me a message to call him. He wanted to follow up with the report he sent. Curt is very professional and extremely nice. Very thorough in his work, and he was very good about explaining how mold starts and the different types of mold. Very knowledgeable.

After living with a musty smell in the two upstairs bedrooms for a long time we decided it was time to find out if we had a problem. I contacted Curt Mankoff and he agreed to come to the house the next day and explained his fee as being $265 to come to the house and do the inspection plus $125 for lab fees for any air samples he took. He arrived promptly, worked efficiently, and explained what he was doing. He used his moisture meter to check the walls and ceiling in both bedrooms. Of course there wasn't much or any smell when he was there, but he listened to my explanation of where we felt the smell was coming from. Curt took an outdoor air sample, one in each bedroom, and one behind the wall in that part of the room where we thought the smell originated. The next day he called me with the results of the tests. Yes, we had a very high reading in the wall cavity, although the room air was OK. Then he e-mailed the test results and his recommendations. He explained everything clearly and carefully. The remediation company completed their work following Curt's recommendations but didn't see any mold. I called Curt and talked to him. He assured me the mold was there and we discussed the next step. We cut a hole in the ceiling and there it was. Just above the place where Curt tested the wall! After the remediation company completed treating the ceiling Curt returned and tested the air in the bedroom and tested the wall cavity in the other bedroom. Everything came back OK. When Curt called with the results he reminded me that he would be happy to talk to me any time if had questions.

When called, Curt answered in a friendly and professional manner. When he discovered he had just completed another inspection in the area, he promptly offered to come over right away. He conducted a thorough inspection, provided the right diagnosis, suggested the right remediation approaches, with a preferred approach. When we asked for his recommendations from a list of remediation firms, he provided in a professional manner their strengths and appropriateness of the services for our situation. We appreciated his practical manner, experience and recommendations. We have chosen a separate remediation company and have scheduled Curt to do a post-remediation inspection. Hopefully we would not encounter a similar situation again but if we did, there is no doubt we will retain this company again.

Curt was great, very friendly and personable. He did a visual inspection of the basement and crawl space and also an air test in the basement vs the control air test (outside). He explained things along the way and what to look for that could be suspicious. He pointed out areas of previous basement flooding too. It was a pleasure to work with him and would highly recommended. Lucky for me, my new home came back with zero evidence of mold! Let's hope it stays that way!

I wanted a company that did not combine inspection and mold removal. To me, that is a conflict of interest. Curt of Mold Inspection Specialists does not do both. I contacted him because of his great reviews here and am very pleased with his service.

First of all, I need to backtrack and indicate that Curt also did some work for me at my residence so this was not my first encounter with Mold inspection Specialists( Curt). It was because of my initial encounter with Curt at my home that immediately prompted me to contact Curt again for a potential mold problem at our office as I would trust it to no one else.The work at both locations was perfect. curt came out and looked at what needed to be done and immediately came up with a plan of attack that would solve the problem. What I really liked about Curt ( and this was exemplified at both my home as well as my office) was that curt not only knew what needed to be done he outlined a mold remediation plan without being an alarmist. Very often people panic when the word "mold " is used. to be sure it is important to address the situation properly but with Curt , not only do you get that you get that advice in such a way as to calmly reassure you that it can be taken care of without any problem. Please keep in mind Curt just performs the inspection he does not perform the actual remediation work. This is also very reassuring because he doesn't really have any "skin in the game" so to speak. In other words, he's not making recommendations while thinking of running up a tab. He just tells you ( and writes up in report form) the work that needs to be done and if the people performing the work follow his instructions you will be absolutely fine. The bottom line is no one wants to have mold in their home , office, etc. but if you do Curt with Mold inspection Specialists is the absolutely the one you want to call to direct you to start solving this problem.

I called Curt to discuss my concerns and he was at my house the next day. The air samples were taken and we had the results the next day. The results for my basement were bad. Curt helped me in working with the company doing the remediation and with my insurance company. He was always available and very responsive to all my calls ( which were many). He was very helpful in educating me about mold and the dangers and also calming about my anxiety. When the remediation was finished he came back to my home and retested the air in all parts of my home to be certain that it was safe to move back. He also tested some clothes that had been in the basement and brought upstairs. It turned out there were mold spores on the clothes. We then knew we had to clean that clothing. Curt is a mold expert and does not do the remediation so he has a totally unbiased response, results and opinion. This is one of the reasons I chose him from Angie's list. What I didn't know was how lucky I was to have chosen Curt. I found an expert who is caring as well as knowledgeable. I hope I don't have to call him again ( for obvious reasons ), but if I had the need I would call him immediately.

I am a cancer survivor so the quality of air that I breath along with my family and dog is of the upmost importance. So in my search for quotes on mold remidiation, I was also searching for an independant professional to test the house after the remidiation to make sure all was good. I found Curt Mankoff on Angies list and called him. I knew from my first converstation with him that he was truly a mold expert! He calmed my fears, gave me the facts on mold and how best to treat it. He helped me go through various protocols and make sense of what needed to be done to ensure a healthy house. Once my remediation was complete, Curt came out 24 hours after the air scrubbers were turned off to conduct his air sampling. He was upfront about the cost before he came out, told me what to expect and how long it would take. A few days later he called me to let me know the house did not pass. He provided me a thorough, well written report with all the lab numbers his interpretation and suggestions for further treatment. After additional treatment was completed, he re-tested the house at the expense of the remediation company. He again called me, this time to say it passed! He provided me another well written report documenting the numbers and that the house passed. Curt always answered my calls and questions. He was available when I needed him. I would highly recommend calling him first before you call anyone else. He is a wealth of knowlege and can provide so much information before you get started. I felt he was on my family's team and he worked to make sure we had a safe, healthy environment to move into. He truely is the MOLD EXPERT!

I needed an urgent mold inspection to satisfy a lender contingency for a purchase of a historic home. Curt was extremely accommodating to my schedule and provided exactly the professional inspection report that was required in a very timely manner. My house is 18 years old and because of some stain marks on my ceiling and some black areas on my carpet I was afraid I might have mold problems. After consulting Angie's List I selected Mold Inspection Specialists. I called Curt Mankoff and had an extensive phone call with him and he explained his process, what my options were and a little about mold in general. I was impressed with his responsiveness, willingness to take the time to explain things to me over the phone and his up front outline of the cost of his services and what might be needed. I also liked the fact that Curt only inspects for mold and does no remediation himself. This I thought would avoid any conflict of interest. So, having been satisfied with my phone call I scheduled Curt to come to my house early the following week. Curt showed up on time and was there for 1 hour and 45 minutes. He was thorough, including going up into the crawl spaces in my attic through all three entry points, took his time, and through visual inspection and meter readings came to several conclusions about my "problem areas". First of all, he found no evidence of mold being present in my home. The stains I had noted on the ceiling and carpeting were apparently from something wrong with my fireplace and fine particles of soot were somehow getting into my HVAC system. (So, I'll have to check that out.) There were two small stains from water damage apparently from improper sealing around a pipe going through the attic; but those can be easily fixed. Curt saw no need for more invasive investigation such as cutting holes in the wall or removing baseboard molding, and likewise thought it was not necessary to take air samples. All of this saved me hundreds of dollars. I written report was provided and I thought his prices were fair. Again, Curt was thorough and professional throughout the process and I feel totally confident in the work he performed.
