Green Attic Insulation

I learned a lot about my old building and where air leaks were located. So, the energy audit was very helpful. Unfortunately, I couldn't get this company back out again to give me a quote on providing any insulation services. I still have not done any insulation beside some of my own DIY gap sealing.

He did not follow through.....

This was a really good experience. The person performing the analysis was professional and knowledgeable, answering all of my questions and providing a detailed write-up, including thermal images, at the end of the process. Even before they arrived, I knew I needed to increase my attic insulation, and asked them to quote me for the work. The quote was very fair, well within reasonable limits, and the only reason I didn't proceed is because the space under attic floor is simply too small to accommodate traditional insulation without investing in substantial work to raise it across the entire space. I still need my insulation problem solved, and when it bubbles to the top of my priority lis,t and I have the money set aside for the installation of a higher "R" value insulation - so I don't have to raise the attic floor - I'll certainly be giving Green Attic a call.

Vendor was very informative about the condition of my home and showed images as they happened on his thermal scanner. Gave suggestions on what action was needed to be performed to improve the home from an energy efficiency basis. Provide information about what his company could do to assist me in making the improvements. I found several that were no cost efficient to pay someone to do but that I could do myself. I would hire this company for future work once I make the smaller improvements.

Nicor and Comed have removed Green Attic from their rebate program approved contractor lists. If Green Attic?s work on my attic was typical it?s obvious why this happened. Green Attic's work was AWFUL. It needed $2300 of additional work to mostly fix it. Green Attic did NOT offer to do any of the work or to pay for it. When they saw the problems they merely acknowledged there was a problem and it needed much more work to fix it. When we initially planned the attic work in midsummer 2014, Green Attic was still an approved contractor for Comed's and Nicor's roof insulation program. Green Attic said their design did not need venting through the roof deck. This surprised both my and my general contractor. Andrei at Green Attic claimed to have never had problems with this design. Sadly I decided to trust Andrei: "I will get more Rvalue with my insulation without spending extra money on ridge vent, soffit vents and baffles. The only problem you'll have to be careful in the future will be roof leaks, but thats a problem with any type of insulation installed in cathedral ceiling." Green Attic supposedly sealed the floor of the attic against humidity from the house below using closed cell foam, a product somewhat like Great Stuff. The inside of the roof was insulated with blown in cellulose. The attic was finished with a built in air conditioner and sheetrock by my general contractor, who did a great job. By that January we discovered that steady moisture was leaking into the unfinished space in the attic near the eaves, and was forming a obvious water droplets and ice inside the roof deck. In the Spring the humidity inside the finished living space was unbearably humid, even with the AC on full blast. Books and paper in the rooms warped as if they'd been left in the rain. When Green Attic came in to see the problem they said that the roof obviously needed powered vents. This would have been easy to do before the attic had been refinished, but it now would cost another $2300. Green Attic did not see how this could be their responsibility, and did not offer to do the work or pay for it. Use Green Attic at your own risk.

It went very well. They were very prompt and professional. I will recommend them to others.

After a chilly winter in our new house I decided to research air sealing and insulating my attic, with the intention of doing it myself. I read about energy audits and how it's a good way to detect air leaks and problem areas in the home. I picked up a deal on AL from Green Attic Insulation for $59. The company has a good rating and almost 200 positive reviews. They reached out quickly to schedule the appointment and responded to all my questions same day. Andrei, the technician, was punctual and polite. He took me step by step through the house showing me all the air leaks with the thermal camera. With the blower door going you could feel the air entering the house with you bare hand and Andrei made it a point for me to do just that. I was surprised at how much air we lost just from the edges of the window frame. He answered all my questions and offered suggestions for DIY repairs and energy saving tips. The last step in the audit was a very thorough check of my water heater due to the pressure change and the potential of backdrafting. I just got the results from the energy audit and a quote for work, if I choose to have Green Attic Insulation do it. I had some questions regarding the quote and quickly received a response. I had a price in my head that if they met it I would use them to do the work. They met the price but I still have to consult my boss/wife. If we move forward with the work I'll update this review. ...We had the attic work done and we are very happy. Along with having the insulation blown in, we had 300sqf of decking built for storage. The team was vary carful around the house, tarps on the floor, no rushing up and down stairs with material (lots of it) and always cleaned up after themselves. The supervisor would call me whenever they started a new phase like building out insulated boxes for the lights or when blowing in the insulation. It reassured me that I was getting what I paid for. They did a great job and we are using our heating and cooling less, we have a nest and I'm checking usage. Not to mention that the second floor is now feels closer in temp with the first, we've always had huge temp inconstancies.

Recently moved into a new home and the attic insulation was very thin. We lived in the home for a bit to see how the summers and winters were without improved insulation so we'd have a good baseline. Then in March we got the insulation and sealant work done and we have noticed a world of difference. The entire house is much more temperature stable environment. So far, this summer is dramatically more comfortable than the last. We previously had issues with some rooms being dramatically cooler or hotter, but now its much more consistent throughout. The crew was really nice and professional. They cleaned up well after themselves and kept me up to date. I had one tiny lingering issues after the work and they promptly came out and fixed everything. I'd highly recommend Green attic and would be happy to use them again.

It went slowly. They did a thorough job of the blower testing and IR photography. After they completed the work, although they sent us the quantitative write up quickly, it took them several weeks to send us the pictures. After my wife and I saw the pictures, They originally proposed insulating the rim joists and insulating the walls. Insulating the walls would have cost about $3500, and there was no guarantee we would not have to repaint where they had worked. It would take us over ten years to recoup the cost through lower heating bills. They, though, also proposed insulating the rim joists and recaulking and sealing around doors, windows, and outlets. They suggested I could do this myself. I asked them for a bid, which they supplied. They also offered a discount for cash. We had them insulate the rim joists and do the caulking and sealing. Once we agreed a time, they completed the work promptly and cleaned up completely. Dimitru, the crew leader inspected the work. He did not like the job his crew had done on one door. He came back a couple of weeks later and redid that work.

I had read in the reviews how this provider often changed appointment dates or cancelled last minute, and it gave me pause. But given the overall good reviews, decided to pursue anyway. Sure enough... 3 days before the appointment I get a call that they wanted to reschedule to another date. Disappointment swept in right away. After explaining to the person who called that my travel schedule made it difficult to reschedule, they called a day later and agreed to come out before the normal business hours -- at 8am. Ugh! My tech was extremely punctual, and his guidance and expertise was top notch. His friendly demeanor almost erased the disappointment at almost being cancelled and having to do the appointment so early. (I had to wake my roommate up earlier and kick him out of his room.) I was pleased with the amount of detail and explanation that was provided, the insights he shared, and the time he took to make sure he covered every square inch of my house. And although he said it might take up to a week to get a summary and an estimate on what the recommended repairs would be, I had them in my email within 24 hours.

They were great. They were very good about explaining the process, and then followed up as well.

The gentleman came out a little late because they had equipment issues, but when he came out, he took pictures and was able to to do a pressure test and identify where the weakness was coming from. He provided an estimate afterwards for what needed to be done and insulation in the attic. There was a little delay in time, but they were very prompt in replying back for providing us reasons as to why there was a delay and that was important. They explained the situation when they delayed and there were no hidden costs. When they did anything, they explained what they were going to do and did exactly that. They provided me with details on ways to keep costs low instead of spending on an whole lot of changes and they provided a quote on the insulation. They provided a couple of different quotes so it was like part A and part B, so there were different variations. It took them a while to get out here, and I would expect the company to have enough equipment. If they have a deal they should have more than one equipment.

Great. Provider showed up on time, performed inspection and provided written report in a timely manner.

They did a pretty good job with the analysis but I never received the report which was part of the deal. I felt they were knowledgeable and knew what they were talking about.

The service provider never contacted me in the time that was suggested, and I decided I no longer want the work done.

They did the inspection, it went fine.

It took about 3 weeks to get them scheduled out. The technician told me he would follow up about a week later with additional information about what I was looking to have done including pricing. I called to let them know I was interested in having the service done and have not heard back from them. They did tell me they have been busy. The technician was personable and did a thorough inspection.

I was grateful for his help in referring me to his lab. Talking to him saved me the effort of finding a lab and then no being sure of credibility. By their graciousness, I would recommend this company. They (very thankfully) did not squeeze me for fees or services I did not want. So thanks much to Green Attic Insulation

Best experience I have had with a contractor and I have had many experiences. Mike, Sergei and Charlie were polite and professional. Even with a man down for 2 out of the 3 days, they managed to get all the work done as planned on time. Was receptive to questions, explained thoroughly so homeowner can understand what they were doing. Met all our requests. The only issue was the front office wrt customer experience. Would definitely recommend them for any insulation work. Price was comparable to 4 other quotes received. 2nd floor seems well insulated now, can feel the difference. As for the ice damming one one side of the roof, this was not completely addressed with the insulation however, Dmitry explained why, there were no sofits installed therefore insulation did as much as possible to prevent but we do notice the ice damming is not as bad as before.

They were busy, so it took a while to schedule. They sent one technician who was here around an hour. They were very thorough and professional.

Communications: After purchasing my deal from Angie's List, I entered my requested appointment times, but they left a message saying that they were approximately 3 weeks out on scheduling. Took the first appointment I could get, and then they rescheduled on me once. They refused to call or email me, and opted for leaving Angie's List messages instead, even though I asked that they communicate through my email. Day of Service: The day before, their office called my house to confirm our appointment for 9am the next morning. Day of service, 9am came and went with no sign of the technician. I attempted to call in and see what the status was, but the number listed was for an answering machine, not a live phone line. I never heard back after leaving my message, but the technician did show up around 10:45am. He brought his equipment in and explained the process. Once he saw my fireplace, and the ashes inside, he asked if I read the informational packet they sent me about the day of service. Funny thing is, I never received anything from them. So we did the best to seal up the fireplace to avoid ashes coming inside. After the blower had worked for a little bit, he walked me around the house as he took pictures and explained what he was seeing. This part was a great eye opener. Seeing the air infiltration from various locations in the house was really cool. He inspected everything from the attic to the basement, and even did checking of the furnace and water heater. Once we inspected the whole house, he explained what items would need to be addressed and told me they would send the audit and estimate as soon as possible. Waiting for the Audit: After a couple of days went by since the audit, I still hadn't heard anything. I understand being busy, but to not communicate that you are busy and that the report is being prepared is unacceptable. I had to send a message again that I was waiting and had not heard back from anyone. Finally, they informed me that my report would be ready in about a week. Receiving the Audit: After waiting, the message came in (again through Angie's List - not email), and had the attachments. Reviewing the paperwork, everything was scanned backwards, and in multiple files. So, I had to do a bit of puzzle solving to get the pieces together. The quote included very little explanation, and a huge price tag. For that amount of money, I thought I would at least have a phone call to explain what it is, and why it costs so much money. I was able to piece together the jist of the quote, so I will be sure to use it as I get quotes from other insulation companies. Overall: They weren't very easy to work with at all, and the punctuality was a big problem, seeing as I had to stay home from work to meet them. The information regarding the audit was very cool, and I would recommend getting an audit done on your home. But, if you do choose to get one, do yourself a favor and call someone else.

We couldn't do the blower test because there wasn't a big enough temperature differential, and that was mostly my fault. I misunderstood him. Much later I found I couldn't do a blower test because their was vermiculate in my house. That said, it felt very rushed and he just to be preparing his quote for insulation and such. He did give me a lot of good tips on things we could do on our own and he showed me a couple of the images from the infrared, but not worth $60. We had a couple our quotes for insulation after, which were free, and we got a lot of the same information. Anyhow, I don't think I would have been so disappointed until I did ask for a partial refund. First he said yes, then he said no, and his secretary had agreed. (I will try to attach image of messages)
