I had the TV back in three days for less than I expected to pay. This was my first experience using Angie's List and I'm very happy with the results. I had been unable to find anyone to do the work on my own. Ben, himself, got back to me the same day I sent him a message. After I sent him the model and version number of my TV, he asked me to call him at his store, which, by the way, is now at 5657 W. Howard, in Niles. Ben and his wife Arlene were a pleasure to deal with from start to finish.

If you read the internet boards you find that Toshiba DLP high def televisions suffer a fatal flaw, the DLP chip (which was manufactured for them by Samsung). After a few years white dots appear on the screen. They increase in number over time and never disappear - on a dark screen it looks like the Adler planetarium. Toshiba does nothing if the set is out of warranty, as mine was. My set was bought in 2007 and shortly thereafter Toshiba stopped making DLP TV's - as have all other manufacturers by now.
The internet boards are not all of one mind - some say it's just the DLP chip, others say some other chip also goes bad, some talk about replacing the whole and quot;light engineand quot;. I called Ben's and they said it's the DLP chip and they would replace the chip in my home for $350. It seems a little expensive but not in comparison to buying a new 65and quot; high def TV. They said their chip was original Toshiba but had been updated to fix the fatal flaw.
John came to the house and replaced the chip. He knew exactly what he was doing and did the work quickly and efficiently. It's not easy getting to the chip. One has to remove a structure from the TV and tear it half apart, replace the chip and put the whole thing back together again. I think it took him about 45 minutes with no wasted motion.
The white dots have disappeared and it's like the set is new again. I hope it lasts.

Edit 11/08/2014 --
John returned today to replace the DLP chip that he had installed about a year ago, no charge for the chip or for labor. My TV had a grayish shadow on the screen when the TV was turned on and the screen was dark. It was visible only in nighttime scenes - a minor nuisance. It changed shape if there was action in the dark scene. John was unsure whether it was caused by a defective chip or a particle of dust. He replaced the chip and the shadow is no more.

I recommend John highly. He is very experienced and very patient, and he cares about doing things right.

I contacted Ben's Tv's via recommendation from a friend. I was helped by Evan Pauker. I told Evan that i was looking for a new or refurbished television for my office space. I didn't give him an exact size or specific model. I only told him that my budget allotted for me spending no more than $600. Evan researched all possible options and sold me a Toshiba television that was 37 inches and fit perfectly in my office. He even saved me over a $130 dollars more than i had anticipated. He delivered the television and even mounted it on the wall for me. The customer service at this place is great. Thanks to Evan and all of the guys. Keep up the good work!

My Philips 55" rear projection TV was causing me problems, so Ben sent his guys to try to repair it in my home. Being unable to do anything there, they took it back to his shop to do a more extensive investigation and repair. He ended up replacing the engine on it, returned it to my home, and it seemed to be fine for a time. The TV again developed some problems with the projection engine that he replaced the first time. His guys came and picked up the TV once more. He ended up keeping the television for four months while he went back and forth with the manufacturer trying to get an engine for the TV that actually worked. I had no problem with him keeping it that long as I had no use for a TV that didn't properly work, and I didn't want an endless cycle of pick-ups and drop-offs if the engine was going to continue to be problematic. Eventually, after much effort on his part, he was unable to have the manufacturer provide him with an engine that worked as it should have. He offered me a used TV from his store that was, in fact, nicer than the one I had (57") in terms of size and picture quality and a cabinet that was in great condition. The significant thing here is that he offered me the TV free of charge, and he kept the old one so that I didn't have to mess around with it. I was astounded at this because the repair issue wasn't his fault, but I accepted his very generous offer because I wanted some closure. He immediately called me to see if I was satisfied with the "new" TV after they had dropped it off. Ben made a sincere effort to fix my TV, and, in failing to do so through no lack of effort on his part, came up with a solution that demonstrates excellent customer service in my mind. I would call Ben again anytime I had issues with a TV or theater system. I really could not have been more satisfied with the service he provided me.

When they came to my house to repair the TV, they were on time and professional. However, while the TV was at their shop being repaired, I was unable to get any information on what they were doing or when the repair would be completed. I called several times (I called for the third time just prior to typing this entry), and the receptionist said that Ben would call me back. He never did. I'm still waiting...

They did not charge me because the problem was very easy to fix. It is rare that you get this these days; he was honest and I loved that. Without a doubt I would take any other TVs to them. I have recommended them to many friends.

There was some confusion about what I wanted and who on their staff would do it. When they came out, though, they did a great job. My only complaints is that they didn't completely clean up after themselves; there was some plaster dust in one of the rooms and some cardboard cartons left in the back yard.

I visited their locating to purchase a mount for a new TV I had purchased. They had just what I needed; however, they seem a little behind the times as far as business goes.
