We called Cedar Rustic for an estimate. Gerry was the salesman we worked with. It took a couple of weeks for him to come since we had to find a mutually agreeable time. He came prepared with samples and plenty of knowledge about decks. He did not push any particular material on us, but gave his opinions. We decided to go with Silver Oak Azek (solid vinyl) decking with white railings. He drew up some basic plans, and gave us an estimate that included everything we would have to pay for. No surprises. When we decided to go with Cedar Rustic, he came back to finalize the details, and the estimate given before was the final price. He gave us three sets of detailed plans. I went to get a permit. They started the job a few weeks later, and it took them about a week and a half to finish, which included a couple of rain days in between. A couple of laborers came the first day to dig the holes for the concrete pillars. The town had to inspect the next day. Then we encountered rain for a few days, and the guys came back to pour the concrete. Next, two carpenters came out to install the treated sub-structure. They did an excellent job, and they did it fairly quickly. After some more rain, a carpenter and a laborer came back to install the Azek decking and railing. The final day, which was about a week and a half from the start, one carpenter came back to finish some trim and install the steps. He did a great job. Very professional. Just yesterday, Gerry came back out to inspect and take some pictures for their sample album. Overall, it was a fairly good experience. They were professional, the price was right, and they are very willing to work with one's schedule. The only complaint that I have, is that one of the laborers (he may have been an apprentice carpenter), did not seem to give the job his best. He did most of the deck screwing, which was done on 16" centers. Unfortunately, he did not seem to take care to keep the screws in a straight line. They are kind of zig-zagging around. I wish he would have taken more pride in his work, and maybe used a chalk-line or had taken a little more time to do it right. Luckily, the screw heads are small, so it still looks good overall. My wife tells me to quit worrying about it. Needless to say, I would use them again for future projects.
Description of Work: I removed my old deck by myself. Cedar Rustic installed a new deck to my specifications including the concrete pillars, treated sub-structure, Azek decking (solid vinyl) and vinyl railings. All remaining scrap was removed by Cedar Rustic a few days later.

Everything about my transaction with them was positive. A salesperson came by my house with multiple samples and options. They didn't try and push the most expensive options on me nor did they perform inferior work because I went with something less expensive. The guys whom installed the fencing were on time and easy to work with. They were careful not to destroy the ground around my house during the installation. They let me make the final choices on placement of the fence. The quality on the installed fencing can't be beat. Several years after the installation (About 3 weeks before this review 7/2012) my house had storm damage due to extremely high wind to it's roof, garage door, and siding.... but nothing to the fence. Very Solid. I couldn't be happier with the company and the product they provided.
Description of Work: I had Cedar Rustic Install my back yard perimeter fence several years ago. Approximately 200 linear feet worth with three gates. All of the fencing was PVC. 7' tall side solid fencing on the sides with a 5' tall picket style along the back.

I needed to replace a very small section of split rail fencing and had a terrible time finding the type I wanted. I called and the salesperson was very helpful. I purchased the fencing but opted not to have the fence installed as there was a $500 minimum to send out a crew. I had the fence installed by a handy-man service and it looks great. I was very happy with the service I received from Cedar Rustic Fence and would definitely consider them in the future.
Description of Work: Purchased a small section of fencing but did not have it installed. The fence was very hard to find and the salesperson was very helpful to me when I made the purchase over the phone. The quality is very good and I am very pleased. I would definitely consider this company if I ever need more fencing.

To cut the chase: We are delighted with our Cedar Rustic fence. It is very well made, very strong, and very pretty - it truly transforms the feel of our backyard. It was a kind of difficult process getting to this point, though. The sale of the fence went smoothly, in that Jerry (their representative) was very helpful and took his time (lots of it) helping us review the lot and decide what style and material of fence would suit the various areas best. So, no complaints there. Then we had to get the permit because some sections of the fence were 6 feet tall. This went pretty well, too, but I will say that we are also using Cedar Rustic for a deck job, which also requires a permit, and that is much more complicated -- and, it turns out, it's a different procedure than the fence permitting. So I do wish that Cedar Rustic somehow provided more guidance to us, the customers, on how to obtain the City permits (for instance, you do NOT go to City Hall downtown for deck permits, but it certainly never occurred to me to call them to make sure of this, and it would be nice if Cedar Rustic could give customers at least this much guidance). Anyway, we got the permit and then we did a TON of work clearing the very overgrown fence line so the crew could work. It's a 1/3-acre lot, so that took a lot of effort. We asked Jerry to come back out and confirm that we were doing an adequate job with the fence line and he said it was fine, though he suggested that we get permission from some neighbors to use their driveways for loading fence panels into our yard -- which we did -- and he also suggested we clear some wheelbarrow paths for the crew -- which we did. The problems came on the first day that the crew arrived. They were at the house by about 8 a.m. When they saw the job, however, they balked and refused to start work because it was much more complicated and harder work than they had been led to believe. So the foreman of the crew would not start work until Cedar Rustic agreed to renegotiate their contract with the crew (to pay them more for the harder-than-expected job). So, we experienced a minor strike, with the crew waiting right on our front sidewalk and driveway. We were desperately calling Jerry and Cedar Rustic a few times to get updates (sometimes getting only voicemail and no return cal), until we were told, finally, that the owner would be coming out as soon as he could from Joliet to see the site and talk to the crew. He made it to our house around 12:30, and walked the fence line with us and the crew foreman discussing how various problems (trees to be worked around) should be addressed. By 1:30 pm, he and the foreman had worked out whatever deal they needed to in order for the foreman to start, and the crew got to work. That spell from 8 a.m. - 12:30 pm was by far the worst part of the experience, and it did make us question our decision to also use Cedar Rustic for our new deck, as well. HOWEVER, once we got over that bump, everything went REALLY well. The crew worked incredibly hard, and had all post holes dug by 6 pm or so that first day (easily 100 holes or more). The next day, they showed up early and had the entire fence installed by about 2:30 pm, and - as I said at the beginning of this long review - it looks fantastic. So, all's well that ends well. The only "dings" are for the apparently very poor communication between the office (somehow) and the crew, leading to that long "strike" on the first day of work; and the way we don't feel very guided, as customers, through the City's permitting process. I know that it's the customer's responsibility to get the permits, but it seems that since we only do this once in a blue moon, whereas Cedar Rustic does fences and decks all the time, they should give us more hints on where to go, and when, to get the permits accomplished as painlessly as possible. Other than that: Beautiful cedar fence that looks like it will last easily for the 20 years they estimate!! Thank you!
Description of Work: Cedar Rustic's representative came and looked at our (very large, very wooded/overgrown) lot, and helped us select an appropriate fence (mixed styles for different areas of the yard). The fence was installed about 3 weeks after we notified Cedar Rustic that we had the city permit.

Description of Work: We got an estimate to put up a new fence from Cedar Rustic. Joey was very knowledgeable. We had to take down the old fence and put a new one up. On the day the fence was being taken down, the crew was even early! No need to wait for them. it was done quickly, but correctly. Miguel, the crew leader, came and made sure everything was going well. He also answered any of our questions. Make sure you ask if the dirt and fence will be removed. With this company it was, but many don't

They started on this project in April of 2010 and said they had all the material and that it would take about three weeks to do this job. They then told me that they didn't have the material after the concrete steps were removed and that they had to order the material. Needless to say I was without a pront porch until they finally finished it in late october and I never did get to use the porch last year. I would not recommend them to anybody and I would never use them again

At first I was happy with my fence and service, however, later that night, I noticed cracks in the wood on the gate in which the latch and hinge were attached. I called the office and was told a work order would be submitted for this repair and a worker would come out. 2 weeks later when no one had come, I called again. This person said she couldn't find paperwork for my service call, but she would be sure to get this handled within one week. 2 weeks after this, I emailed the salesman with digital pictures of my complaint and asked him to help facilitate this repair. When I returned from vacation and had not received any email or voice message or repair, I called the office again. They reported our fence was to be repaired the next day, August 4, 2011, 5 weeks after the installation. This repair did happen so I am happy about that but I feel their communication in handling this problem was lacking.
Description of Work: A crew of 2 men arrived on time and worked all day removing the old fence and installing a new 5 ft. cedar privacy fence per our order. They removed the old fence material and cleaned up after they were complete. They replaced 2 planks that I noted had unsightly knots that looked like it would affect the stability of the fence.

I had 4 contractors give estimates for a fence install, Cedar Rustic was the cheapest by about $400 on a $2400 job. The older gentleman that gave me the estimate was pleasant enough and seeed to know his product. He wrote the estimate and drew a diagram of my yard shape. When it came to installation a crew of guys came, they were also pleasant to deal with. There was a small issue with the shape of my yard in the back corner which resulted in a bent rail on the chain link portion instead of using an extra post - I assume this is why they were cheaper - I expected them to have extra materials on the truck, but they didn't, so I got a bent top rail instead of a post. It looks fine, but I worry that where they bent the rail will eventually rust, only time will tell. The cedar portion of my fence looks good, although I wish they were able to get the rails closer to the ground to keep medium size animals out. Overall I would do business with again, but would be a little more specific on my expectations, hopefully the fence remains looking for many years to come. Be sure to check your yard before mowing your lawn, I found black 'chain-link' fabric cuttings on my lawn the next time I mowed, the team must have missed them while they were cleaning up.
Description of Work: Had them install a combination cedar and chain link fence.

The biggest issue I have is that I was misled by the salesman (maybe not intentionally), but he should have been familiar with his product, or been able to get the correct answers. I had 150 feet of vinyl fence installed. One large section was a combination privacy fence with pickets on the top. I made it very clear that the height of the privacy portion was very important, since this gave us some privacy between our patio and our neighbors patio. I went over the measurements with the salesman a couple of times to make sure the privacy portion was high enough. He kept giving me dimensions that would be ok. When they installed the fence the privacy portion was 10 inches shorter than I was told (more than once). While 10 inches may not sound like much, it makes the difference of eye contact with our neighbors (and company) when we?re sitting on our patio. Although we like, and get along with, our neighbors, we would like some privacy when on the patio. I didn?t see the difference until the posts were set and most of the fence was up. By then it was too late. Now, every time I look at the fence I become upset. Things started off with problems as soon as they showed up. I went out to verify what was being installed. Most of the post reinforcements I ordered were not there, and some of the posts were the wrong size. On the final day of installation they could not finish the job. The foreman said they would be back the next day (they had about ? hour to 1 hour of work to do), which was ok with me. When they had not shown up by 4:00pm I called the foreman, who said they were not scheduled to be there until 6:00pm. I asked why I wasn?t told that the day before so I didn?t have to sit home all day waiting. No answer. When they didn?t show up by 6:15pm, I called the foreman again. He said they were on their way. When no one showed up by 6:45 I called again. This time the he didn?t answer his phone. I called again about 5 minutes later, this time he had his daughter answer and tell me they were 15 minutes away. They finally showed up at 7:20pm and finished the job. A final note: I know I didn?t pay to have the dirt (from the post holes) hauled away, but I didn?t think they were going to leave 6 piles of dirt in my neighbor?s yard for me to move. They could have at least brought it into my yard. I?m 67 years old, with a bad back and heart condition, out there with a wheelbarrow moving dirt.

Overall it went well. I probably stressed the salesman a bit because I requested a quote before I found out there was a water-main leak on the property. I requested to proceed with the quote quickly after the water company came and knocked down most of the existing fence. He was very helpful even though I was probably being a pain and changed the layout on him. He came out a second time, altered the quote and left it on my porch and called me to go over it before leaving. He also drew up 2 additional quotes so the water company could reimburse me for the portions they knocked down. I had to call the install date to make sure we were still on (it was supposed to rain in the afternoon) and get a time the installers would show. Installers were great, and i'm impressed with the finished product. Installers forgot to nail 1 picket up on a post, but it was partly my fault for not catching it. Overall I'm happy with the fence and would recommend them again.

After my call about the deck floor not draining they had a manager come out to assess the deck. That was within one or 2 days. After his inspection, he asked me to call him after it rained so he could see the pooling on the deck so I got the garden hose and flooded the deck. Instantly he could see there was zero drainage. After a quick 10 minute visit the manager had determined it was not installed properly, i.e. no spaces for drainage. He said the solution was to replace the deck floor. It's a 12 by 31 ft deck (costly for me to purchase) and he said they would come out and replace the floor. A few more folks came out over the next week to measure and take pictures of the deck. Within a week or a week and a half they sent a crew out to pull out the old and put in the new. The crew was friendly, worked fast (finished in one work day) and the crew leader offered me some great advice about how to improve the life of my deck by ventilating the floor under the deck by adding vents along the solid wood skirting that was installed originally. He said that would help keep the new floor dry in addition to the slats for drainage. He also went further to tell me how to cover the vents with a specific kind of screen that will keep out small animals. Basically, I had a new/2-year old deck that was in really bad shape due to a problem with their installation and Cedar Rustic stood behind their work and product by replacing it all at no charge and without me having to make any kind of fuss. I simply stated my issue and asked what they could do. The rest was handled professionally by them.
Description of Work: My old deck which was 2 years old and installed by Cedar Rustic had never drained properly and for the second year in a row the stain simply peeled off like dead skin. They removed the old deck floor and stairs and reinstalled a new deck floor and stairs. I also asked about the structural support for the pergola and the manager agreed to install bolts through the 4 main support area. The service they provided this time was at their expense and cost me nothing. The original deck was just over $11,000.00

The original fence I had installed only enclosed 2/3 of my back yard because I didn't know I could have the fence run all the way back to my property line over a berm. Two years later I found out I could and since the neighbor behind me installed a fence identical to mine, I decided to run the sides of my fence all the way back 100% to my property line. I called Cedar Rustic about this the same time I called about my deck in early April 2010. They came out right away to measure and see what I wanted. Another person, the manager, had to check how to do the fence over the ground grading. They scheduled the fence work the same day as my deck but forgot to tell me or let me have the estimate. I had to cancel the fence work since I needed homeowner association approval and I didn't know the cost. I had to call 2 more times for the estimate which I finally got. It seems the estimate was done but for some reason not sent to me, which in the end simply delayed the fence work but not significantly and since they were working on my deck problem, I was less concerned about the fence. Anyway, I did get the estimate and it was $995 which was reasonable to me. Once I got HOA approval they wanted to schedule the fence work within the week but I was going on vacation so they scheduled it for May 12th after I got back. I only had to put a small deposit down, $300 and they took care of calling J.U.L.I.E. and showed up at 8am on the day of installation. I was concerned they would not finish when one worker left and was gone for a few hours so I called the company and they confirmed he was coming back and just had to get some supplies. I had to go out and when I left the one man was still digging out the old posts. He only had 4 or 5 posts of 6-8 dug up. I went out and a few hours later when I got back there were 3 men working on the fence and all the new holes were poured and the posts set up in them. After that it went really fast with them installing slats and cutting them to fit into the frame. They even added a final post right beside the neighbor's fence post so that they didn't attach my fence to the neighbor's fence. I assumed they would simply butt my fence against that neighbor's. They finished by 5pm. Based on how the manager said the fence would need to be sectioned over the berm, I thought the sides would have a choppy unregulated appearance. In fact the new side sections match the existing fence sectioning well and there is only a little section on both sides where the section sizes are different. It looks MUCH better than I thought it would. The only area for improvement would be if they would offer dirt removal. The dirt that comes out of the holes they dig is substantial and it would be nice to have them haul it away and get it out of the yard the same day. Otherwise, they do a great fence.
Description of Work: Cedar Rustic took down the portion of my back fence that ran horizontal to my property line and reinstalled it along the sides (vertical) of my property line back to butt up next to another fence between my property and my neighbor's. They had to dig up 6-8 old posts and the concrete and then re-pour concrete and re-install 8 new posts and fix the post where my gate existed so that I could add fencing in a new direction off the gate post. They also had to cut down some of the fence slats so they would fit properly now that some had to be installed on a slant over the grading on the berm. My fence is a white vinyl 6 ft tall privacy fence.

Their initial upfront like appointments and stuff were good. They did the job when they said they would and did it very efficiently. Overall, I am pretty happy with the job. I was not very happy with the price.
Description of Work: They did the back fence for me.

The sales rep, Bob, was on time for our appointment. He went over the different options for the fence and showed me samples of the wood. Carla was great for scheduling and making sure we had obtained our permit. The two men who installed the fence were on time, polite and professional. The head man (Guadalupe) answered my questions and addressed issues promptly. My only negative issue was they put some of the fence sections and tools on my neighbors lawn (i.e. laid them down flat while they installed the posts). They moved them immediately when I brought it up, but I wished they had kept everything within our property lines while the fence was installed. There were two patches of grass that were killed as a result. Our neighbors were nice about it, but we felt bad that their property was damaged as a result of our fence project.
Description of Work: Installed a cedar scalloped picket fence with two gates.
