 + -1 moreGreat! Sean was extremely professional and did a fantastic job. He took the time to answer any and all of my questions. He was very knowledgeable. Unfortunately my scheduled job was not dispatched out (despite a call the day before confirming the appointment). I called after the window for someone to show up was over and the office was right on top of it. They apologized for the mistake and made sure someone would show-up before the end of the day. Despite this, I would still recommend using them (especially if you get Sean).

 + 2 moreService was excellent, I however, have been had. Service person recommended the thermocouplers to be replaced. Sticker shock... I was charged $89 each. Come to find out this part is $7.50 at Lowes. Taking advantage of customers is a very poor business practice. I am beginning to wonder if Angie's list deals are bait and switch deals. $267 for 3 thermocouplers, $87 for the "deal" and I am $354 in the hole. Final grade, Angie's list D, Service company D minus.

 + 1 moreWillie, the technician, was very polite. He explained everything to us. He needed my husband to raise and lower the thermostat a couple times, so as to run his tests. Called before he came. Said he was 20 minutes away and arrived in a timely fashion. A call the previous day was taken by our answering machine indicating the window of time for arrival. This too was helpful and the indicated window was kept to. Willie left a note saying: The boiler is working just fine at this time; also left this recommendation: should continue annual maintenance. We were very pleased with this service and have confidence our furnace will get us through the winter.
Description of Work: Checked furnace. Removed burner and cleaned it. Vacuumed burner compartment. Checked damper/flue pipe. Tightened and secured wire connections to spark module. Checked pressures.

 + -1 moreI asked Freedom Heating & Cooling to give me a quote for replacing my central a/c unit (which was broken) and my furnace (which was functioning but old and had gone through several hundred dollars of repairs in recent years). Scheduling a visit for them to come look at my existing HVAC was quick and easy and a quote was delivered very soon afterwards. The quote was sufficient but pretty basic--other companies gave me quotes off the bat that included upgrade options. If I had opted to replace the A/C unit alone Freedom would have been the best price and with a better quality baseline unit, but the cost for replacing both A/C and furnace was not as competitive with the company I ultimately went with. Although I didn't do business with Freedom this time, I would consider them as an option for future jobs. Good experience with them even just with the quoting process.

 + -1 moreOur house in Naperville was built in 1995 and our existing furnace is as old as our house! We noticed the heat was not working and looked up top rated companies on Angie's list. I made the decision and feverishly called Freedom yesterday to schedule a service visit for today. Our technician, Willie turned out to be great. He called me this morning to advise that he would be coming in sooner than we had expected. When he was 20 minutes out, Willie gave me another call saying he was on his way. Upon arrival, I showed Willie the thermostat and explained what was going on. Willie was professional and positive and he knew right away that the issue was related to thermostat programming. Willie then adjusted the settings and as he was doing it, explained in great detail what he was doing and more importantly, why. As he set the thermostat, he was 100% sure the issue was resolved. I was surprised and quite frankly found this too good to be true. Then, we adjusted the settings 5-6 times - Willie put the power in my hands and made me do the work so I could learn how to program the digital thermostat and get the assurance that there was nothing wrong with the furnace. All worked fine and the issue was resolved. Willie charged me $69 for the service call and since the issue was minor he only charged me for 30 minutes of labor ($54.50). In addition to the "training," Willie gave me tips on saving electricity and gas bills! I am very pleased with Willie's service and will not hesitate to give Freedom a call for our future heating and cooling needs!
Description of Work: The technician (Willie) came in and trained me on operating our digital thermostat, secured the wires and gave me tips on how to save on gas and electricity bills.

 + 0 moreIt went extremely well. He called when he was about 1/2 hour away then again when he pulled up out in front. He was SUPER pleasant. After a short while we were talking like we were old friends. He was very helpful, called me down to the basement to show me exactly what was wrong and explained why replacements needed to be done. He showed me pricing charts just so I knew he was charging me the right fees. I still need more work on one of the furnaces before winter sets in, but he explained what the problem was and why his company couldn't do it, (need a place that does heating AND PLUMBING). Overall it was a good experience and I won't hesitate to call them again.

 + -1 moreTechnicians called me one hour before arrival on October 2nd as promised and told me that they would be at my home to install the new furnace. They arrived exactly when they said. The technicians began to remove the old furnace and then installed the new one. It was all very smooth. They completed their work. The technicians explained how everything works, asked if I had questions, answered my questions, tested the furnace to make sure it worked properly (it did), and left a receipt for the cost and payment. This company hit it out of the park. I was extremely impressed with the technicians and the owner. They were all very knowledgeable, understanding, and very professional. I would recommend this company to anyone and everyone. THANK YOU FREEDOM HEATING AND COOLING!
Description of Work: I called Freedom Heating and Cooling on September 30 because I turned on the heat and it wouldn't stay on. I knew that my furnace was old and I was hoping it could be fixed. Well when I called Freedom they told me they could come out the next day which was October 1st. That was impressive to begin with. They gave me a time frame of when they could come to my home to evaluate the problem. The technician called me on October 1st and explained he could be at my home in 30 minutes. Which was all in the time frame they told me. The technician arrived and inspected my furnace and not only explained the issues I was having but also showed me. The technician was very professional , courteous and very helpful. I was told my blower wheel was off balance, the furnace was over heating, and the heat exchanger was possibly cracked. The technician also told me that the unit was 21 years old. He explained that it could be fixed but the work that they do could only be guaranteed. Which means that if another thing went wrong with the unit after they fixed said issues I would have to dish out more money to fix it. I immediately thought to get a new furnace because of the age and all the issues with the furnace I had. I asked the technician to please quote me a price and he called the owner to discuss a new furnace and price. It was quick, pleasant and very fair. I agreed on purchasing a new furnace. I was very impressed at the fact that the technician never once pushed the issue to purchase. I actually initiated the purchase. The technician only explained my options and answered my questions. The owner agreed to have technicians come and install the following day at 9am. I was so happy and impressed that they would be so accommodating.

I told Sean a few of my concerns with the unit and he not only did a through cleaning, he also made sure my concerns were looked into and addressed. He made sure all was in good order and the unit was working well. I can't say enough good things about Freedom. Their personal are top-shelf, courteous, and leave a clean work area. They explain the work they are doing thoroughly so even the layman can understand the work being done and the issues involved. I will certainly use them again for all my heating and air conditioning needs.

 + 0 moreThe repair technician arrived promptly and spent about 30 minutes here. He went on to the roof and inspected the unit first, then after diagnosing the problem, went down to his truck to get the repair part and brought it back up to the roof. We live on the top floor of a four-floor walk up condo which I explained prior to the service call. He explained in general terms what happened, that the capacitor had burned out. I asked him if the recent thunderstorm (2 days before) could have caused it. Right after the storm we had no a/c and it was urgent that we fix it given that we live on the top floor and had been without a/c for 2 days in the middle of a humid summer. He said that was possible but that capacitors burn out for a lot of reasons. He also responded to my questions about the unit and how long it might last. It's a 10 year old unit and so this is becoming a concern. I think we're ok for a few years based on that discussion. He also did a clean and performance check once the unit was back on. I was a little dismayed that I had purchased an Angie's List big deal for $39, hoping to save money, but still had to pay an additional $208 for the repair. He explained that the big deal only applied if the A/C was functioning at the time of the repair. Despite that, given our good previous experience with the provider, and the urgent need to have the a/c back, we thought it was worth the expense.
Description of Work: Repaired our rooftop a/c unit, replacing a cap(acitor)--I think--the receipt just says cap, but I think it was a capacitor that burned out possibly due to an electrical storm. Also performed an a/c clean and check.
