I had 3 trees with storm damage in early July of which one had two major branches broken off. I was going on vacation in two weeks and wanted the tree damage trimming resolved before going and Dawson was not even able to get someone out to give me a quote before then. Since I was able to get assistance clearing fallen tree debris from others the tree trimming was less urgent and I wanted a quality job which I thought Dawson would do based upon the Angies List ratings so I reluctantly waited. Ehen I finally received a quote I thought the price was on the high side I just wanted it done already. Scheduling a date took a little longer since Dawson wanted to fit it in when convenient without scheduling and I wanted it scheduled when I could be home to make sure it was done the way I expected it to be done. The guys showed up on time, were very professional, and did not give me any grief when I wanted a couple extra area's trimmed that I thought was needed. Cleanup was very well done. Overall, I would use these guys again because the quality and clean up were very good BUT I will be getting a competitive offer (using AngiesList) and if they are either too much more expensive or not more responsive when I contact them then they will lose a customer this time.

John and his crew were right on time and did an awesome job trimming and thinning 2 trees on our property. He asked careful questions to find out how I wanted the trees to look and checked in throughout to make sure it was to my satisfaction. Cleaned up nicely afterwards. I'd definitely use their services again.

Dawson's Tree Service offered the best and most complete estimate to remove the dead ash tree in my backyard. They arrived 15 minutes early (I love it!) and started setting up right away. They got right into the job and got done in what I thought was an amazing short amount of time. They cut down some exposed roots as I requested. There was a light rain throughout the job but that didn't stop them from cleaning up very well and getting all the limbs chipped and carted away. We have two other trees that will probably need to be cut down soon and I'll be sure to use Dawson's again.

Due to a misunderstanding in how we wanted the tree to be trimmed, the crew actually trimmed a little more of the tree than I had wanted. When they showed me their work I explained the problem, and the person handling the job immediately called the office. They confirmed that there had been a mistake made, and the crew apologized profusely and proceeded to explain what they could do to make the situation better and how the tree would grow back. They proceeded to do a great job and cleaned up the yard beautifully. They were very nice to deal with and very respectful. What could have been a bad experience ended up being a good one. Even better, at the end of the day, the owner called and made sure I was not unhappy and to talk about the situation with me. He was professional and sympathetic and I was glad he felt such a small job for his company was still important enough to deal with directly. I will definitely use Dawsons Tree Service in the future and highly recommend them.

Steve came out to do the estimate. He listened to what I wanted and explained exactly what they would do. He was professional, easy going and thorough. I hired Dawson Tree Service and I'm so glad that I did. I read the Angie's customer reviews and they are right on. I was home during the work. Steve came with the crew to walk them through what we discussed. The crew was incredible and they did a better job that I could imagine. The trees look wonderful! They cleaned up beautifully, even put all my patio furniture, plants, dogs toys back exactly where they were. They blew any woodchip off the patio and driveway. Impressive! It was so worth the money! The crew showed up promptly at the 7:30am start time with a full crew. Steve walked the property with me to discuss what the order of operations would be for the day. They immediately went to work on the two full removals in the backyard, skillfully dropping large branches while avoiding the wooden fence a few feet away from the tree. The crew stayed busy, at least two guys were always hauling and chipping waste while others cut and climbed. They also trimmed various dead branches from other nearby trees as they worked, without being asked and without extra charge. IF there has to be a downside, and this is very minor, I had asked for the large trimmings of our maple to be left for firewood; instead, they ended up feeding everything into the chipper. It had been on the original estimate, but the instruction apparently didn't make it onto the final work order. I will say that Steve's extra care in walking the property to help my wife identify problem/invasive species of trees for us to remove, and the fact that they ground our problematic "sucker roots" that stuck up 4-6 inches above the soil without being asked and without extra cost definitely offset the minor firewood error. Great company to do business with. The curb appeal of our old ranch has been greatly improved, and our yard is now sunny enough to grow grass! We are very glad to have chosen Dawson's; they seem to get the idea of meeting and exceeding customer expectations!

The Magnolia was shaped into an umbrellalike underneath the branches around the trunk giving it a wonderful look. The also added cables to the trunks because there are 3 trunks growing from one and the cable keep the tree from splitting apart in high winds. They shaped other trees in our back yard. I will be calling them soon for more trimming because ComEd came and trimmed trees from power lines but didn't care what it looked like.

We were considering removing two trees and were advised they could be saved with a good trimming. We saved money and kept some good shade. They were courteous, efficient and worked as a team to provide good service. The price seemed reasonable and we were not encouraged to do more than was necessary.

We contacted Dawson's Tree Service via their website and they reponded within the hour. Steve arrived the following day and noted that it would require a great deal of labor to remove the tree since it would be inaccessible to his equipment. The resulting proposal was therefore at the top end of the cost spectrum and not within our budget. However, I would like to note that Steve was very knowledgable and strongly recommended that a nearby elm tree be treated for the emerald ash borer which was news to me. I plan to follow through on this and, hopefully, save this tree. Thanks, Steve!

From Steve, the estimator and arborist to the men who executed the work, the whole process was smooth, professional and friendly. The best thing I can say about their work is that when they were finished, the trimming and shaping of the trees was not obvious. The work was artistic and gentle. Highly recommend this company.

Excellent responsiveness from the office staff to the workers onsite, including the team leader. Nice, friendly workers. Removed tree without any problems and cleaned everything up. They were careful of the house and the rest of the landscaping. They even left some logs for firewood as requested. The stump grinder was not working properly the day they took down the tree but they returned within 2 days to finish grinding the stump.

In order to put in a new patio, the big sliver maple tree that was too close to the back of the house has to be removed. I received 2 quotes which Dawson Tree was very reasonable. After I compared both quotes carefully and spoke with each company for more info, I decided to go with Dawsons Tree. Steve and his crew arrived on time the day we scheduled the removal. Steve explained in great detail the entire process before they start the job. They did a terrific job cleaning up the debris and offered to clean up and grind the stump for another dead tree in my back yard without extra charge. Even when my contractor who worked on the patio informed me that they missed the edge of the tree stump, they came out right away to take care of it after I spoke with Steve. Two thumbs up to Steve and his crew. I will definitely recommend them to others and use them again in future.

They performed work within a few days after receiving my contract. They did work in a professional manner and answered questions as I asked to my satisfaction. They cleaned up after the job as well. I would definitely use them again for future tree services.

These folks are amazing - they do what they say they are going to do; extreme customer service; cleaned up all debris and even sent me a follow-up thank you card. A bit pricey - but worth every penny.

I initially called Dawson's earlier in the summer, but they were fully booked due to the severe storms that rolled through the area. Based on the positive reviews on Angie's list, I decided to wait rather than going with another tree service. Anyway, I contact them in early September via email for an appointment. Kelly responded the following business day indicating that the earliest they could do the work would in 5-6 weeks (late-October). I said ok, and a few days later they came out to look at the trees to provide a written estimate, which I signed and returned. Just above 5 weeks later, I got a message from John saying they'd be out the next day to do the work. No one was home when the work was performed. When I got home after work, both trees were nicely trimmed, with no debris left on the lawn. I was particularly impressed with the job they did on the locust, which had lots of low hanging and inward grown branches. This tree is a thing of beauty now - almost elm-like in grace.

Dawsons Tree service responsed quickly to our online request. After a few phone conversations, we received our quote which was very reasonable. Unfortunately there were numerous storms after initial contact that delayed the trimming service. My wife and I would of hoped for better communication during the wait time. On the date of service, the trimming team arrived on time, did an excellent trimming job, and cleaned up the yard in a few hours. We are very pleased with the Steve's crew and the work they performed.

These guys don't mess around. After getting a very reasonable quote I accepted their proposal and they said they would be by in the next 4-6 weeks. We didn't even need to be home for them to do the work, which is ideal since my husband and I both work and we just moved and have taken LOTS of time off to be home with all the other service people and technicians. I actually was home when they did the work today and they took out 2 trees in about 20 minutes. They had everything removed and cleaned up before I even realized they were working on it.

Left message for company on Sat. 7/28/12 and they returned my call on Mon. 7/30/12. Asked them to come out and give estimate of cost of taking down 2 trees and taking care of stumps. They said someone would come out between Mon. 7/30/12 and Wed. 8/1/12 and would E-Mail me a quote the day they came to the house. I was not at home all week so I don't know whether they came by but I am assuming not because a quote was never sent to my E-Mail address.

Several large trees in my yard needed to be removed -- some in open areas and some where care had to be taken not to cause damage to adjacent woods or property. I talked to three companies, thinking that the best way to do this was just to have a crew come in for a day and get as much done as they could. John Dawson came out and walked through the property with me to tag the trees to be removed. His price was competitive and he thought the "crew" approach was a good one. On the day the work was scheduled, John called because he was concerned about the ground being too soft -- I agreed (had been concerned too) and we decided to push it back. When conditions improved, John called to reschedule. On time, they showed up and started to work. Then the rains came. They continued to worked through it all, only taking a short break for lunch during the worst of it. They did a terrific job, exceeding my expectations in the cleanup and the way they stacked the logs. John is easy to deal with and gets the job done. I will use this company again and have recommended them to others.

Dawson's estimator listened carefully to what we wanted done. He explained very clearly what they would do, options that we had, and how much it would cost. The work crew arrived on time and completed the job promptly at the estimated cost. We were very, very pleased with their work. The trees looked great when they finished. They were professional, courteous and happily answered all my questions about the job. I would use them again without hesitation.

We called Dawson Tree Service's office number a few hours after the storm, on a Sunday afternoon, expecting to get an answering machine. Instead, a representative answered the phone and took our information. Later that afternoon, John Dawson came out to look at the damage and wrote a $2275 estimate/proposal to remove the tree limbs from the roof and clear immediate hazards, saying that he could probably schedule the work for Monday afternoon, or if not Tuesday morning. We immediately accepted. The crew showed up at about 3PM on Monday afternoon and spent about two and a half hours clearing the limbs. They worked quickly and efficiently, and when they were done they left the property clear, including raking debris and and chipping and removing all of the limbs, including branches that we had cleared from the driveway and left on the parkway. They also cleaned up the damaged tree, removing stubs down to the main trunk and leaving the tree looking healthy and relatively complete. The $2275 cost appeared a bit high, though in light of their responsiveness and the time, crew, and equipment required to successfully complete the job it was not unreasonable. Although not necessarily cheap, Dawson's consistently does excellent work and is absolutely worth the money.
