The day after record flooding in our area the main sewer drain to our main bathroom suddenly stopped. I called J & S Plumbing for help. Because of the high demand for plumbers due to the rain they were extremely busy but asked if we had another function bathroom which we did. That evening they called to say they could be right out if we wished. Sammy and Jason arrived about 7:30. The cleanout for that sewer line is located in the basement four feet from the floor. Since the line may have been full of water they first protected the surrounding area with tarps , brought in a half dozed 5 gallon buckets then drilled a small ?weep? hole in the cap to prevent a mess The line had drained so they removed the cap. They attempted to rod the drain but something was blocked about five feet out. They put a TV camera into the line and showed me how the clay pipe had collapsed. We then agreed to schedule repair the following Monday morning. After securing the necessary permit Sammy and Jason returning along with Gasper who came with a dump truck and excavator. Even though their Takeuchi 53 FP excavator had rubber tracks they laid down about a dozen 4X8 foot sheets of ¾ inch plywood so the lawn would not be damaged on their way to the back of the house. To gain access to the sewer line in the back of the house two metal fence post plus gate as well as an old lilac bush needed to be removed. After dismantling the fence they carefully listed the post straight out with little ground being disturbed. The break was located directly under the back door stoop. Instead of removing the entire stoop they carefully measured exactly where the line was located and used a concrete saw to slice the stoop down the middle. They then spent the next few hours hand digging until the reach the break also using the excavator when possible. While one man was in the hole digging another would sweep any dirt that fell in the patio back into the hole to eliminate any additional mess. They finished the repair using PVC pipe and then inserted a TV camera through the newly installed cleanout That provided them and I a look at the entire sewer line all the way to the Village main in the street. After we were all satisfied that the sewer had no other problems, they reset the fence post and pushed them into their holes using the excavator and cleaned up for the evening. They needed to wait for final Village inspection scheduled for the following morning. The following morning after the inspector gave his approval, the three back filled the hole it gravel and proceeded to clean up the entire work area. The only remaining evidence of the repair is the 2 by 4 foot hole they cut in the stoop that was filled in with gravel. Even as they were walking to their trucks to leave one of them was picking up a couple of pebbles that were in the grass. I am extremely happy with this company and recommend them to everyone with plumbing issues.

Dave and Jim arrived within the timeframe promised. They asked several questions to diagnose the problem and went straight to work. in addtion, Dave answered several questions relating to plumbing in the house we recently purchased, but unrelated to the reason why they were here. He was thorough and polite with his answers. After unsuccessfully trying to augur the toilet, they removed it and found that the plastic reducer in the wax ring had shifted and was causing the blockage. They removed the reducer and all other debris, installed a new wax ring, reset the toilet and caulked it in place. The was several days ago and the toilet has worked perfectly since then. Not having had any plumbers come out for repairs, I don't have any basis of comparison for the price, but it was higher than I expected. The entire process probably took about an hour and a half.

Update... Service provider went out of their way to connect with me on my issues to work out resolution. Curt came out and talked to me and went over the issue from start to finish and found that the work should not have taken 2 hours and the troubleshooting should have started elsewhere. Curt indicated that they would be happy to come out and camera the issue for no charge to help get final solution to the drain issue of the house. Plus fixed a leaky shower for no charge. I feel that the provider did go out of there way to understand and find a resolution to the issue and are working that that this issue will not happen again to other customers. ------------ Overpriced and unable to completely fix my issue. Two hours working on the main line from the house to the sewer with no success. Finally able to unclog the basement drain from in the house out to main house line. The issue seemed to be a secondary line to the main house line that needed to be routed out. A day later the same secondary line is slow or needs plunging to continue flow. A quote to me for another 450 to come out again with a camera for more work.

I called them at 4 PM on a Saturday afternoon after a simple fix up went south when the PVC pipe connected to the metal drain cracked off. After a quick check, I located J & S and called them hoping they could come out. The guy that answered told me the 3 PM shift had just started and that he expected that I would have someone out between 6-8 PM. I received a courtesy call around 6 that their guy would be by shortly. ~15-20 minutes later Curt showed up and quickly went about replacing the cracked pipe and removing the old metal part. He must have dragged out the biggest pipe wrench I've ever seen, it was clear that my simple slip joint pliers would not have been adequate. Anyways, he fixed up the pipe, helped place the new lid on the pit (which was my initial project) tied up the float and wires, cleaned up his mess and was off. Curt offered a very professional service experience, no complaining that he had to work the weekend or why was I so dumb (my wife took care of that). Seriously, I could have call any number of places and been charged an outrageous bill because I was stuck and they knew it. These guys provided me with a good service at a fair price. I have already given their name to at least 3 people if they ever needed a plumber in the future. Give them a chance and see.

Great experience as this was my first time using J & S Plumbing. I requested an after 2:00 appt. I was called by 3:00 and told within 1/2 hour the plumber would arrive, and they did (love service providers who mean what they say). Paul and his helper Joe were very through in trouble shooting the problem. When they got here they turned on the hot water in the sink and waited and watched to see what the heater would do. After eliminating other probable causes. the thermal couple was replaced.

Overall this experience was excellent. My husband was very pleased as he is the one who was home when the plumber came. He has reminded me twice to write a review. While no one likes to do plumbing repairs because this can be costly, this was the first pleasant experience my husband has said he had. On the initial call to set up an appointment, they gave us a time frame, called before they came to let us know how long it would be and came within that time frame. Once here, he was polite, professional and did his work in a timely and efficient manner. We did not feel we were over charged for the service we got and will definitely use them again.

I had two minor gas leaks in exposed black pipe in my basement. Called J&S Plumbing in the morning, and they were there a few hours later. Mark was nice and professional. He explained what he was doing and what caused the leak. He had to run to a supply shop to get a part but didn't charge me for the trip there and back. He checked to make sure my pilots were lit when he was done. The leaks seem to be repaired. Mark was also patient with my questions about replacing some of my older plumbing. I'd use them again.

As usual everything went well. They found the issue and cleared it up. I have used J & S for many years and they have never let me down, it is no surprise that it continues. This time Daniel came, he was pleased to see it had nothing to do with the out door pipes. Over a year ago I had frequent issues with the sewer backing up, it was through J & S diligence (and talking with the Village of Arlington Heights) that the problem was found. Then it Westridge Town Home Association to follow through and replace two pipes, in my neighbor's walk way. Over a period from 7-21-11 to 4-21-12 I have had the following plumbers, Daniel , Jason M., B Maulor, and Keith. Each and every one (and their helper) were knowledgeable, respectful and clean.

J&S came right over to check out my leak. Ran through extensive checks to determine that the problem was not plumbing, but due to poor grout/ tile. Explained everything in detail and recommended a carpenter for the tile repair. I'd definitely recommend J&S.

They were quick on coming out, punctual, very detailed. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

The owner was very professional and after the job was performed we had some concerns which he very promptly addressed. He showed the responsiveness and courtesy that you would expect from a company listed on Angieslist.

The best possible experience in every way. The person who came out was kind to my elderly mother, explained everything before he started to work with much patience and explained the cost in detail before he started. Please note the cost was 1/2 the cost of other estimates. He did the job in a way that would last!!! It's 6 mos. later, and we still have no issues with our plumbing -- with other companies it was every 2 mos....I recommended him to everyone on my block!!!

Curt was very professional and explained everything to us. There was one point where it looked like the water heater would not be able to restart and he told us we may have to replace it with a new one. Right before the holidays and with the economy the way it is we couldn't afford to replace it. He continued to work with it and thanks to his perserverence he was able to to get it going. We liked the fact that J & S did not try and sell us a new water heater right away. That they repaired our current unit and only when it looked like it would not be able to be fixed did they mention buying a new one.

Initally I chose J & S because they worked on spa tubs. On the first visit they were punctual and thorough in fixing the kitchen faucet. In fact, the service rep was very careful in double checking his work. In doing so, he pointed out a slight leak in our gas line, for which we are very grateful. However, re the whirlpool tub, he quickly decided that the control, which was most difficult to move, needed a new cartridge. After several calls they finally came and replaced the cartridge. Any improvement is very minimal. Had I known the cost up front I'd chosen to not have the replacement. For routine plumbing issues I'd likely use this company again. However, there must be someone out there more knowledgeable about whirlpool tub repair.

My experience with J&S was a little mixed. Brian and the crew replacing the catch basin and sewer pipe in the parking area behind the building were top notch , quick and efficient. The not-so-good part of the experience was waiting weeks for the permits to come in. After nearly a month of waiting for permits I finally called city hall to find out if there was anything I could do to speed up the approval, they told me the permits weren't hung up pending city approval, but rather no one from J&S had come in to apply for/pay for the city's contractor license fee. I had a concrete contractor queued up and ready to put in a new driveway once the catch basin was installed by J&S, and I had to postpone my concrete contractor 3 times while being told by J&S that they were "waiting on permits", when really they were "waiting on time to get over to city hall". My job wasn't that large in the grand scheme of things, so a larger job would probably take on higher priority. Quality of work wise, I'd definitely use them again, administratively, maybe not so much.

Mark arrived shortly after my call for service. He proceeded to replace the tank flush valve as described above. He was professional and friendly. He allowed me to watch the repair process and answered my questions. I would definitely use his services again in the event of a plumbing problem.

I contacted S&J Plumbing and they came out approximately 2 hours after I called them on a Sunday afternoon. That is exactly that time I was told they would be out. Jason, the plummer, utilized his snake and corrected the problem I was unable to do. He told me that the snake I purchased wasn't long enough. When he finished, he cleaned up after himself. He was polite, professional and gave me at some pointers. I thought the price was a little high but I can imagine other plummers would be even higher for a Sunday so I anticipate that I will call them again when I need service.

They were very nice, reviewed the problem, but it ended up not being a plumbing problem, the shower just needed to be properly sealed.

They were professional, courteous, accommodating, and did a great job. I would recommend them to anybody.

We called J & S for a second estimate because another plumber had told us that we had a hole in our sewer pipe. The other plumber had been here to rod out a clogged furnace drain and offered a free camera inspection. He told us we had a hole in our pipe and gave us an estimate of 5800.00 to dig up and replace a 4 X 6 section of pipe. J & S ran the camera inspection and told us we did not have any sort of problem. I was very appreciative of their honesty and I will use them for any plumbing problems in the future. I won't say the name of the other company - I am going to try and give them the benefit of the doubt that the guy just didn't know what he was doing instead of trying to scam us.

It occurred on a Sunday afternoon. We called and they came as soon as they could keeping in touch with us on eta etc. Arrived, examined issue, had a crew out at 8 am Monday and was done by noon.

Overall - very pleased with J&S. They are not inexpensive, but they have a quality team who comes on time and does good work. We have hired them multiple times over the past 4 years to do various projects on our home, and we would definitely hire and recommend them.
