I had trouble deciding on the rating because I had to have J&S come out twice to fix the problem. I called the provider about 9:30 or 10am, and they were out about 1pm. We have a handheld shower head, and the handle to turn it off and on was broken - we couldn't turn the water off, so we had to turn the water off to the whole bathroom. I showed the two guys who showed up the problem, and left them to work on it. They came down a while later and said it was fixed; they never asked me to turn the water back on to make sure that they fixed the problem. I didn't think of doing it myself until they were gone, which wasn't too bright on my part, and when I did turn the water on, I still had the same problem. I called J&S back, and waited another 3 hours or so until somebody else showed up. Of course, it isn't surprising that everybody was in the middle of other jobs. I showed the new guy the problem, and he had it fixed in less than 15 minutes. All 3 guys were polite and knowledgeable, and professional in their behavior. They were very punctual the first time, but I had to wait quite a while and call back a couple times to get somebody to come back.

They were very good and very thorough. They did over and beyond and didn’t charge me for it. They did a television thing down the drain and that’s normally over $100 and they didn’t charge me for that.

What GREAT customer service especially because we were in a PANIC! Thank you, Ed! I am recommending you to all of my friends! Technicians arrived within the timeframe and replaced our hot water heater! Thank you Paul and Jim! We appreciate your experience and knowledge, considerate and courteous nature, and fitting us into your schedule!

I look forward to giving J and S plumbing a chance to tend to my plumbing needs. They are a company true to their word.

They've been here on time every day they've said they would. They have done an excellent job redoing the plumbing. I've used them before for smaller plumbing jobs and have been happy with them.

We were not able to use this company.

Recently moved into a new house of 1970's construction. After a couple weeks, a flood of water rained down in the family room below the master bath during a shower. I opened up ceiling and found leaky pipe and quickly determined it was something I'd be much more comfortable having a professional fix. J&S came out on a Saturday to provide a quote - both Joey and Steven were knowledgeable and friendly and set up service visit for Monday. Matt and Saul showed up earlier than promised. Again, professional, friendly and knowledgeable - plus extremely pleasant to work with despite my ongoing onlooking and questions. Apparently a hairball was dislodged during cleaning and caused a slight backup of water in the drain and up into the corroded copper drain line - likely result of previous owner using harsh drain cleaning chemicals. The removal of the old pipe from the main pipe, the unique existing shower drain, and the challenging tight quarters gave me confidence that I had made the right decision and picked the right company to do the work. It took about 4 hours all told, but I am extremely satisfied - the work is not just structurally sound, but the runs are set with artistic precision. After a long list of "shenanigans" by other companies who shall remain nameless, glad I finally found one with quality craftsmanship, professional with integrity. Definitely have found my plumbers for the future.

I live in an old Victorian, with only an unfinished sandy-floored crawlspace underneath. During the Polar Vortex, the pipes froze at the connection to the main. J & S came out and thawed out the valves, removed the water meter which had cracked, and reestablished flowing water through the two unit building. Because of the specialized equipment used, I was charged a special, higher rate ($1224.00). I knew this from the outset, but when you dont' have water and it is subzero outside, you can't shop around. The team went about their work quietly and diligently until service was restored. On the basis of this job, I hired J & S again six days later to deal with a leak from one bathroom into the one below that caused the ceiling to collapse. When the team showed up to replace the bathtub drain, which was the source of the leak, I had again lost my water and we found that the crawlspace was flooded. While I cannot be certain that the prior week's work somehow caused the pressure bladder to spring a leak, this new team was forced to pump out the water (no mean feat) and bypass the pressure bladder before working on the job they'd come to do. Again, no real complaints but I did have to shell out another $1800 for another day's work. I did consult with the guys again about fixing some indoor plumbing (namely my fancy faucets and shower) and they took down all the relevant manufacturer's information, but no one ever got back to me. This is the third plumbing company I have asked to look into fixing it with zero results.

On the evening of 4/21/14 we noticed a trickle coming from our water heater after my wife did the wash and knew the thing we'd been dreading may be occurring soon.....a bursting water heater and a flooded basement. We knew it was old and on it's last legs but it was on the "to do soon" list and should have been more of a priority. We mopped the trickle and turned off the incoming water for the night and checked again in the morning and only found a small puddle. We checked through both the phone book (old school right?) and Angie's List and called a few places to find out how much a 50 gallon gas water heater was going to cost and settled on J&S. We liked that they had a Rheem with an 8 yr warranty and could come out that day if we needed. We settled on the next day and proceeded to drain the old heater [I guess they would have done that for us but I was worried that our luck wouldn't hold and decided to drain it]. I was called from home but my wife was there when they came promptly at the time they specified. There were 2 gentlemen (one was an apprentice) and they were surprised that the old unit was drained and ready to remove. We were surprised to learn that the old water heater was manufactured in 1991 and probably installed in 1991/992....I'd say we got our money's worth out of it! Another surprise was that the old one had been installed backwards -- cold water going in "hot" side and visa versa! The apprentice (who did all the plumbing work) had to put in a convoluted series of pipes to have the new unit correctly installed and the supervisor who did the gas plumbing work had to build a new section of pipe to wrap around the heater in the front. My wife stayed near and asked a lot of questions about the work and how to maintain the unit. They were very friendly and showed her how to turn the pilot light on and off and such. They were very neat and professional. We thought they'd charge us more for the extra plumbing work they had to do but the total was just what was quoted when we called them and included the Angie's List discount they advertised. We hope the new unit lasts as long as the old one. Yes we would use J&S again and recommend them but hope we don't need their services for a while.

There was a $100 fee just to come and look, but taken off amount if work was done. Came and diagnosed the problem. Told us approximately how long it would take and how much it would cost before we said okay. Did work in amount of time approximated and charged what they said minus the Angie's list discount. So far all is working very well.

The man I talked to first was informative and straight talking, when asked if he thought someone would be out before 7:30 pm he said he couldn't be sure. Scheduled them to come out whatever time I had a mess! The men that came out diagnosed the problem, gave us a price and went to work. They were knowledgable and answered our questions. I have since recommended them to my secretary as well as other customers of mine. Outstanding service

The gentleman who I spoke to on the phone was very informative, patient, and professional. He answered all of my questions and was easy to work with. I was told that the plumber would arrive between 10am and 1pm. He arrived at 1pm on the dot and was courteous and professional. Upon arrival the plumber realized that the replacement water heater he had in his truck was not the correct size to replace mine. He called a co-worker who arrived within the hour with the correct size water heater. The total time to replace the heater was about 2.5 hours.

They were able to come out and give me a quote pretty quickly. The quote came out pretty high and we didn't want to spend $3000. They didn't offer us any immediate, less dramatic and less expensive options.

When Shane came out, he was on time, very sweet & hard working! This cost was very reasonable! When Daniel came out, he was on time, very nice, helpful & knew what he was talking about! He also helped me w/some suggestions. He was very, very helpful! He took time to explain to me of what was happening in the apt., how in the future we could avoid this, plus some other suggestions. Daniel & his helper, Eduardo, worked very, very hard. I felt bad for them. I am so happy, I've decided to go on there maintenance program! The tenant is very happy, but she had 1 minor complaint, her bathroom was muddy & she had to clean it up. As far as I'm concerned, I am thrilled with J&S Plumbing. But I do have 1 question for them: J&S PLUMBING, INC., where have you been all my life!

It was very good. They were very efficient, and they cleaned up after themselves after the work was done.

Called on a Sunday morning after my toilet overflowed for no reason. They were there within 2-3 hours and rotted line. Took only about 30 minutes. Cost $260 with $20 off which I thought was a little pricey but considering it was a Sunday an emergency it seemed ok.

Shop vac double sinks in kitchen 11/2 buckets of dirty water. Opened trap under sink and rodded and cleared the clogged drain. Tested water running through. Also Changed Fill Valve in toilet water tank in basement. Working ideal and no leaks.

Besides coming out promptly and moving me up on their schedule, the two technicians that did the work were knowledgeable, friendly, and worked through alternatives with me. They even helped prep for the other planned work that day by ensuring their solution would benefit what the flooring and handyman services would need to do. I would definitely call them anytime I have plumbing work to be done!

Update 6/11/14---got call from the owner who was very sorry for not providing me the Angies List discount....he went ahead and provided me a credit for over and above the amount. I am not w happy camper and will surly use J&S in the future. Thx!!

We have been in our house forever, and this is one that we have found. We've used them for fifteen years, maybe even longer as needed. I don't remember the last item we've used them for. One of the things I really like about them is it's the same price no matter when you call them. Days, nights, weekends, Saturdays, Sundays, holidays. They don't get you with upcharges. They always provide you with alternatives, you know. I can't give you specifics because it's so many times over fifteen years.

Jim and Shane called at exactly 11:30 a.m. when they were suppose to be at our house to tell us they would be a little late. They did all the work in an hour, and everything works fine. Both men were very professional and friendly. The price for the work was reasonable. We would definitely have J & S Plumbing back again should the need arise. It is such a pleasure to work with a company that shows up when they say they will, is professional, and does great work.

A model of how a professional service call should occur. Everything about this experience was top notch. Have already referred a friend to this business. Thanks.

Paul and Patrick were fast, efficient, professional and friendly. We were really in a jam and they came out quickly and at a price less than I expected.

After a heavy downpour we discovered water had backed down our (inclined) driveway and into the garage. And we found standing water in the driveway. After further investigation we discovered a slight back up from the drainpipe in our basement laundry room, and standing water in the vertical access pipes in the front yard which are connected to the drain system from our house. All piping from our basement to the street had been replaced about 8 years ago. We figured the blockage had to be under the street or at the main (across the street) so we called the village (Arlington Heights) and left a message with the service. It was about 10 pm on Monday and we debated whether to call a plumber (and incur an ?emergency fee?) or risk waiting til morning and calling then. We decided we needed to call right away. After checking Angies List, we phoned J&S Plumbing (Elk Grove). Pauly came out and pulled out quite a large bit of tree root while rodding out the system toward the main (using 2 inch and 4 inch cutters). He was methodical and thorough, as well as professional. We anticipated getting a large bill since it was after business hours and Pauly spent probably close to two hours total. But, the final bill was $260 (no up charge for after hours)! Quite reasonable in our view. We would recommend J&S Plumbing and plan to call them again for our routine maintenance.

This is an amendment to an earlier review done on 5-16-14 regarding a leaky pipe in which I gave J and S plumbing a "D" grade. Sean Mcgrath (The owner) called the next day. He seemed genuinely concerned about my distress, and in the end, offered a rebate to me for the services performed. I was most impressed that the owner of the company would put his time aside to talk to me, not to mention offering a rebate. I certainly appreciate being treated this way. I do now think that their pricing, after the rebate, was very reasonable, and their quality of work was never in question at all. I give them an " A+" now for all their work.
