Shane and Ivan arrived early but J&S called first to make sure it was ok with me. After assessing that I needed a new faucet, Shane went to pick one up at US Plumbing Supply (No extra charge for the trip) while Ivan remove items under the sink and removed the old faucet. New faucet installed. Looks and works great. Right color. Ivan cleaned under-sink area and put everything back in while Shane took care of the hot water heater. They were both very nice and very professional.

Our hot water heater went out late Monday night. We called J&S first thing the next morning. Explained the situation and was told it would cost $950 to replace and install. They said they would have someone here by early afternoon. Mark was here at 1:30pm, was very professional and took the time to explain what he was doing, first to me, and then went through it all again when my husband arrived 15-20 minutes later. He had it all taken care of within a couple of hours and left everything nice and clean. My yellow lab Simon was barking up a storm when Mark first got there, but he was soon at ease with Mark who talked to him in a calming, soothing voice. We had an unfortunate incident with our kitchen sink which caused leaking that Tuesday night. Mark came back early the next day and installed a new braided steel flexible supply line and tested for leaks. He explained that the plastic valve connector that was put in when we had our kitchen counters redone a few years ago was stripped and corroded which caused the leaking. Overall, we were very happy with the service provided and would definitely use J&S Plumbing again. Their pricing was fair when compared with others, their service exceptional. I totally rely on reviews when deciding who to go with which is why I chose them and can see why they are highly rated!

Initially had some issues as the original note below indicates. But, Sean went above and beyond to ensure that the issues were resolved. Plus, he made sure I knew when the plumbers would be coming out. John came out and took care of things in a professional and clean manner, despite the unexpected difficulty due to drywall issues. Hopefully, as happened last time, we won't have to call for at least year. My home is over 50 yrs old with very large old trees surrounding it. Having the sewer line rodded out every so often is not unexpected. This line was different from the line done last year, which has yet to back up again despite the massive rains that we have had recently.Price wise, Sean took care of the bill as promised despite the little extra time spent, for which I had anticipated paying as I understand it is hard to know exactly what will be done at a home based on a homeowners words.Next time anything happens, which in all likelihood will be related to the children, animals or long hair clogging the drains, we will call J & S. Last year my father contacted J &S to have my sewer rodded out and had a very good experience with them. we decided to call them again and request the same plumber as last year. It was set for after 5om today. As I was unexpectedly home, I called around 1:30pm to let them know that anytime would be fine. I was told the plumber should be able to get there before 5. At 6:40pm I called and received a return call from a woman stating everyone had been out on calls for a crazy day, I was next on the list, and she could have someone there probably in 30 min. She stated she would call when the plumber was on his way. At 7:25pm I called again to cancel. I received a call back from Beth who stated that she had to call a plumber in and had been waiting for him to call her from the office. I told Beth it was getting too late at night and I was weary about anyone showing up as well as if we would get the requested plumber. I then received a call from Sean who stated he's the owner to apologize for the crazy day and that he could have a plumber out to my house quickly. I told him that I understand difficult days, but that it was ridiculous that no one had called me. I believe that if I hadn't called J & S to inquire about my appointment, no one would have called or shown up.

Jason and an apprentice showed up at my house at 7 p.m. on a Sunday night to repair a pipe that was leaking all over my laundry/utility room from by bathroom shower drain. Within 10 seconds of looking at the pipe, Jason identified the issue and proposed a fix. He immediately retrieved the materials/parts from his truck and provided me a very fair price with no up charge for the weekend or evening. J&S Plumbing saved the day...THANK YOU ! I know who to call the next time I need a plumber.

I have used them twice. I thought they were okay. I may use them again in the future.

Not too well, the plumber managed to find new things needing repair everywhere he turned. The biggest issue came from the sump pump switch repair. He said the switch needed replacement which I agreed to. 11 months later the pump burned out because the plumber routed the cycling of the water back into the sump hole causing the pump to run continuously until it burned out. While they charged premium prices, the quality of their work was very poor. I will never use them again and suggest others not to use them as I suspect they manufacture issues and aren't quality plumbers (or at least the one I used). Bad and expensive experience.

I'm was married to Mr. Fit-It (unfortunately he passed away). We never had a "go to" list of repair service companies. The positive reviews convinced me to call J & S Plumbing, Inc. So, I trusted Angie's List, called J & S Plumbing and spoke with Ed. I explained that I woke up to find clear water covering the laundry room floor. After flushing a basement toilet, more water flooded the laundry room, this time it contained silt. I had to get rid of the water before anyone could come over to diagnose the problem. The previous owner finished off the laundry room; however, the ejector pump was inconveniently located behind a plaster board wall. I knew the plaster board would have to be sawed away in order to access the pump. Ed was very understanding as I explained my dilemma; he offered to have someone out within an hour. I told him that I needed some time to clean up the water, move a shelving unit and cut away the plaster board wall. He called me twice, to check on my progress and did schedule an appointment for that afternoon. The service techs, Nick & Chris, called to let me know they could arrive within 15 minutes, if the cleanup was completed. They were friendly, professional; really nice guys. They cut away the plaster board for me and proceeded to get to work. They installed the new pump and were done in about an hour. I rated everything as an A, except the price. I think it probably was a reasonable amount (I didn't bother to get estimates) but a little more than I had expected. My main concern was that someone could come out right away and that the work would be dependable. I would definitely use this company again and recommend this company to anyone needing plumbing services.

First, let me say I'm allergic to plumbers, HVAC people and electricians because I've been ripped off so many times, but thanks to Angie's List, I've found some GREAT companies that I trust and can rely on. J & S Plumbing is now one of them. I really liked the fact that I was told what the price would be if the leak was a result of an old cartridge. I called several plumbers prior to getting to J & S and was told, "Well, it's hourly, and we don't know how long it will take....." Seriously? How can you advertise that you've been in the business for x number of years and not know the approximate time it will take to replace a cartridge? But J & S told me over the phone what it would be if it was the cartridge, which it was, and I got 10% off that price since I'm a member of Angie's List and they have a coupon. Although I called yesterday, they were able to send someone out today and didn't charge more for a weekend call. I asked the guys here what the charge was to remove the stuck bolts from a toilet seat I had removed, and they said there would be no charge. Not only that, but they installed the new seat which I left outside the door when I couldn't get the old bolts off!. That was a complete surprise since I told them I would put the new seat on before I sent them upstairs when they first arrived. I thought that was very nice of them, particularly since one place I had scheduled, but they later canceled, were going to charge me $25 just to take the old bolts off! (see my previous plumber review to read about THAT ridiculous encounter) Shane and Ivan were the two who came out. I was called ahead of time with an estimated time of arrival which I appreciated, and Shane and Ivan were the two who came out. I believe they usually send one guy but one of them is learning the residential side and paperwork to be able to cover when their schedule is busy. Both of them were extremely professional, very polite, and explained what was going on. They worked quickly and cleaned up after themselves, and like I said above, they went above and beyond in taking the time to install the toilet seat after removing the stuck bolts - all at no additional charge! In addition, based on what they told me, the owner is very focused on customer service, and customer satisfaction is their number one priority. In today's world of mediocre service in all fields, this is a great thing to hear. I HIGHLY recommend J & S Plumbing. I will definitely use them again.

I noticed my gas hot water tank was leaking. I called J&S Friday afternoon. They said they might be able to send someone out as early as Friday evening, but we agreed on Saturday morning between 9 and 11. After answering a few questions, I was quoted a price of $950 to replace my 40 gallon water heater, and with the Angie's list coupon, I would save 10%. Saturday morning, I got a call a few minutes after 9 to tell me they were on their way, and they arrived a few minutes later. Everything went smoothly, and they even were able to get the turn-off valve for the water heater working, which I hadn't been able to do. They also checked to make sure the water pressure was good, not only in the basement, but in the whole house. It took them quite a while to get everything in order, as my house is rather old, and nothing ever goes together easily. They took their time and did it right, were very pleasant, and the price was just what I was quoted.

My problem is with the amount charged... When I called to inquire, I was told it was $98 to come and diagnose; if I hired them to do the work, the $98 would be credited to the total amount owed. When the plumber came, he told me he could do one of two things to fix the toilet; if I went for the cheapest one, he wouldn't be able to credit the $98 back, but if I hired him to do the more expensive alternative, he could credit me $48. When I asked why only $48, he said he didn't have the parts in his truck and would have to come back, which meant another trip... How is it my fault that you don't have the parts in your truck? When I called to schedule the appt, they could've asked me what brand of toilet I had; just saying they could do this better. Then, when the work was done (no complaints about the quality of the work), and I was getting ready to pay the rest, I told him I had a 10% off coupon from Angie's List. He calculated the 10% on the amount I owed, not including the $98 I had already paid. When I asked him why and told him the coupon said "for all services", he said the $98 were not for any service.. Really? then why are you charging me $98 to begin with? As I said, the work was good; but he reeked of cigarettes, said "sh$t" in from of my small kids, and I felt taken advantage of. I'm not hiring you again.

Found that what was leaking in was actually a water pipe connected to the spigot. Ended up also replacing spigot because it didn't turn completely off.

I was really pleased with the flexibility of the company. They were able and wiling to work around my busy schedule. The worker they sent, Chris, surveyed my bathroom and explained what I needed to have done. I was pleased with his explanation, he talked me through the work and answered any and all questions I presented. In order to visualize the valves, he neatly chipped away some of the tile around them. He told me that i needed to replace the outdated valves and gave me a price. Chris did a fantastic job and would recommend him and the company to anyone who needed a plumber.

The upper socket of the leaking PVC ell extended up into the floor above. The lower socket was the leaker and access was obstructed by HVAC ducts and electrical conduit. Paul cut a hole in the drywall in wall above the leaking ell for access. He then cut out the offending PVC and installed new pipe, new coupling and ell. I noted that it would be nice if 2 of the downstream ells could also be replaced. They didn't appear to be leaking but were installed by the same suspect original contractor. Paul replaced everything mentioned above, but failed to note that it would be done at extra cost until he presented the bill. I would have likely had them replaced for the extra money charged, but it would have been nice if he had mentioned it first. A cast iron coupling had cast iron on one end and PVC on the other. The leaded cast iron to PVC joint had a very slow leak. Paul removed the cast iron coupling - no small task as he had to split it longitudinally - and inserted to 2 "no-shear" coupling, connecting new PVC to PVC where he had to cut it, and PVC to cast iron - where he removed the coupling.. Paul and his helper Patrick, were on time, amiable and professional. All work was successfully completed and they cleaned up after themselves.

The experience went really well overall. Sean was a little tough to coordinate with at the beginning because he's a busy guy, but when Mike and Jeff finally showed up to do the job, they did it faster and cheaper than the other 4 plumbing businesses that I contacted. Mike and Jeff were friendly, professional, just the kind of people you feel comfortable having in your home. I'd recommend this company, and these plumbers in particular to anyone.

Arrived on time and performed all work professionally and cleaned up when done. Mark Brown was excellent.

J & S Plumbing responded quickly. Water from my washing machine started pouring out of my 1st floor toilet. On a Sunday - and it was an emergency. Blockage was apparent. They were able to solve the problem - tree roots from the parkway had blocked access to the main sewer line. They were able to clear the blockage and we were back in business. I was really worried I was going to be charged extra because it was early morning and on a Sunday. Their policy is not to take advantage of an emergency situation and charge like it was any other day of the week. They were cheerful and easy to work with. I would highly recommend them.

The entire experience with J&S Plumbing was fantastic. My fiance and I just bought a new home in Palatine that needed a bit of work. I found J&S off Angies list, and just needed someone to come out ASAP and fix a leak on our water heater that had been discovered during our home inspection. Someone was out to look at in a day or two, and rebuilt and resealed the whole connection to the water heater. Pretty standard stuff, but it was quick and easy. At the end of June in 2014 we had a heavy heavy rainstorm one night, and our storm drain system in our basement windows backed up, and some water came into our basement. As new home owners, and no knowledge of previous water damage in the basement needless to say we were panicked. After the initial cleanup, we washed our clothes, socks, and some towels. This was really stupid because we pretty much clogged our upstairs drain with the laundry run off with dirt and sediment from the muddy basement water! (so don't do that) We called J&S plumbing to come unclog our interior laundry drain which they did no problem, and they also spent more than half a day using a camera to check our basement drain tile, our storm drains, even our sewer access to check for blockages. They cleared all the blockages and got water running smoothly to the basement pump. We havent had any problems since. We had a chance to work with 4 or 5 different workers from the company and they were all fantastic. incredibly professional, honest, and very forthcoming with costs. Almost every hour or so, someone would come update me, and give me options with prices as to what I wanted to do next. They said they would have to return another day with a high pressure hose to clear the blockages and quoted me a half day of work at $1200. When they returned to clear all the blockages, the bill was exactly $1200 like they said. In addition the plumbers at J&S do not work on commission. They have no extra incentive to sell you on the massive rebuild or fancy costs of any kind. They come, do the high quality work you asked for, with no nonsense. They were fantastic, and I see no reason to contact or use any other plumbing service in the future.

I noticed a water leak from my garbage disposal yesterday. They arranged a plumber to come today. He replaced the disposal and double checked that they were no other leaks. He cleaned the area well with his supplies; not using any of my supplies. He explained all the details of the installation and how to use the disposal and the unlocking tool should it jam. He also explained routine maintenance to have it work optimally. He was very polite and worked quickly. I also got the discount as I was an Angie's list member.

I needed a washer and dryer to be hooked up in new home. There were two men who showed up when scheduled and were very professional. I was missing a piece from the dryer to hook it up and they left to go to the local Home Depot to purchase the part and they were gone less than a half hour. They hooked up my washer and dryer and also put a sealent around a pipe attached to the washer that let's the water run out due to a minor leakage. They informed me to wait about half hour before using the washer so sealent can hold. It was way cheaper than the other option of breaking the wall to fix the pipe. The washer and dryer is working fine and the sealent worked which saved me a lot of money. I'm please with their services.

We contacted J&S plumbing via the telephone number provided on angie's list. They had someone out within 2 hours since we told them it wasnt an emergency. He was able to get the brass coupling off and only charged us for the service call because we already had the part and he had to examine it anyway. We also recieved an Angie's list discount. The shower was fixed and we couldnt be happier. We will use them again!

Quick and polite response when calling. Was able to provide same day service which we were very happy about. Fortunately leak was less of a problem then feared and for that we are grateful.

I called for what I thought was a service call on July 5. The plumber came out and gave us an estimate. It did not seem like he was ready to do the work. He then told us that there was a $98 fee for him to come out. He was not sure if that would be credited towards work done but said he thought it would be. The estimate was 1100-1300 with it taking 6-9 hours. We called to schedule the work on July 7 and they came out on the the 8th to do the work. They were great with communication, got here when they said they would and called to let me know when they would be there. There were two of them and they got right to work. They said it was a faster job than they thought it would be and it should not take them that long. When they were almost done my husband asked if they could add some PVC so that the drain from the AC would not be going through the middle of the room. They did have the PVC so they did that. We had no idea that they would charge $175 for this, but we didn't ask how much that would be. They finished the entire job in less than 4 hours. I was thinking great, it should be at the low end of the estimate. He wrote up the bill and it was $1300. When I asked why it was at the high end he just said because there were two of them. I then asked about crediting the $98 we already paid. He said they offer free estimates and that the first plumber should not have charged us. He did take it off the bill though. The work seemed fine. They made it so we can easily get to the water to turn it off and the same with the gas. For some reason they turned down the temperature on the water heater and left it down without telling us. That was just annoying when the shower would not get hot the next day.

Great service -- their staff is extremely knowledgeable and came up with great suggestions to get the work done most efficiently. I particularly liked the fact that Brian responded to my email questions quickly. I tried dealing with 3 other plumbing companies on Angie's List, but all 3 were unable to communicate via email (they seemed to think that the customer should use their preferred communication method, not the other way around). I highly recommend J&S to anyone who needs a plumbing job done with highest quality, at a reasonable price, and without wasting your time.

I called in a bit of a panic- July 3rd at about 3:00- hours before the end of the work day before a long holiday weekend. I was afraid I would have limited use of my bathroom until Sat or possibly Mon. The person who took my call said someone could be out by 8 or 9 PM. I was surprised they would be working that late- They have a second shift that starts at 3 PM. Then, he called back within 30 minutes to say one of his teams finished a job near me and they could be over in 15 minutes if that worked for me- It did! They came, listened to me describe the problem, and solved it! All done within about 45 minutes. Very pleased.
