I picked them because they were cheap, the apartment had a good layout and the location (Salem Walk) was good. That's about the end of what's good about this place. Actually two of the good things went away, as they jacked up my rent and the road construction outside both entrances has been going on for 2 years, so just one good thing. I'll start with minor problems and go through my grievances in ascending order by shock value. I'm leaving their worst offense for desert, though not very appetizing. The on-site laundry machines are bad. The washing machine still works, but the dryer gave out a long time ago. Following many complaints, they've come back a few times to revive the thing, but it takes 2 or 3 runs to dry one load and at $1 a pop it is just not economical. I ended up buying a rack and hang drying everything. They have reserved parking spots included in the price of rent. The tag on mine was not there when I moved in. It took months of getting bounced between the property management and association office to get this done. I did lots of walking in the meantime. They tried to take petty little made up charges from my security deposit, like $5 for one bulb that they didn't even provide when I moved in; or $10 for a small piece of trash that blew onto my unfenced patio; and other unsubstantiated charges. They eventually gave it all back after over 2 months of calling, faxing, and emailing. I was never once late with my rent, and I even paid a week or two ahead of time. They have such a mess in their accounting records that they once sent me a letter threatening legal action if I don't pay up. Their cleaning crew always left a pile of dirt and trash swept against the corner in the downstairs hallway. I just don't get it. If they were sweeping, then why not throw it in the garbage can. I always wanted to ask them if they need a dust pan, but never caught them in the act. When it came time to sign my lease as well as my renewal, they applied a trick. They refused to put the actual rent price in writing. They recorded a higher price and brought it back down to the agreed rate by using coupons, which I never got to see. They magically applied the invisible coupons; maybe that's why the accounting problems. I pressed for an explanation and they revealed that they are hiding the actual rent rates to protect their property value. They're just crooks. Their maintenance is so slow and unreliable it might as well not exist. It takes weeks or even months of calling and reminding to get some things done. When I called them multiple times for the same thing, the staff would tell me that they are putting a sticky note on the maintenance manager's desk. I think they use the sticky note system for both the maintenance and accounting. The worst part of it is that they come when they want to without a warning. They knock, and if I don't answer, they waltz in. If they were coming out within a day or two of my call, it'd be fine, but waiting for weeks, not sure when they'll violate my privacy was no fun. It took almost a year to replace the foggy glass panes in the patio door. They also had to repaint my bath tub twice, because it was so ugly and rusty, but they used really cheap paint, so it was flaking off all the time. And now for the worst screw up. After some heavy rains the sewage backed up into our laundry/storage room. I'm sorry for the image this creates, but I have to be clear. This was no minor spill. This was brown, chunky poop soup covering most of the floor. It took a few days for a maintenance guy to come out and all he did was use a plunger on the drain hole. It took two weeks for a cleaning crew to finally come out and clean up the dried up mess. I am not kidding or exaggerating. I was as shocked and dismayed as you are reading this. I moved out in May 2010. I'm writing this now, because I just got my deposit back, which completes my ordeal. I wouldn't go back if it were free.
Description of Work: This is an apartment leasing company. I rented a one bedroom apartment from them for 2.5 years, and the only reason I renewed was that it was middle of winter. They provided me with the apartment and some maintenance service.
