The salesperson, Brian Cox, was friendly, informative and did not have a high-pressure technique. When we decided to fill 3 cracks instead of 1, we asked for a greater discount than the original estimate. Brian checked with his supervisor and was able to offer us an additional discount. The workers arrived just a little late, but we received a phone call from the foreman to notify us of the delay. The work was done quickly and efficiently. The foreman explained everything clearly. The only thing we were unhappy with was not being warned that there would be a strong smell from the basement for about a week until the crack filler dried. We had two strong rains in the days following the work and had no water seepage through the repaired crack. I would happily use Woods again.
Description of Work: Cracks in basement walls filled -- including one that was leaking -- with their proprietary method. Not epoxy fill, but a flexible fill to be able to expand and contract with heat and cold.

Woods set an appointment and sent me email reminder. When Dave McDaniel came at 8:00 am exactly on time, I was embarrassed as I was still in bed! He then called so I was able to meet with him. He was so courteous and understanding. I so appreciated this helpful interaction and advice. As no work was done, I was not charged for this initial assessment. He was wonderful!
Description of Work: I called Woods for a solution to a one-time major basement leak. Dave McDaniel came and explained to me how excessively dry soil could shrink and crack, not acting as a normal soil "sponge" to soak up water. He said there might not be a big crack as there was no more water after the one time. He gave me the name of a handyman who could install a kind of wall plate attached to a hose that could direct water should it happen again.

The crew cleaned up after themselves. The price was a little high but they had a high recommendation. That is why I went with them.
Description of Work: I used them for mold testing and remediation. They did the walls and put up a water pumping system so that we don't get moisture in the basement.

I had a leaky basement, so I called them. They came and fixed it. Their price was reasonable. The problem was worse than I thought and they came and adjusted it without any charges. It still didn't work and they came again, spent 6 to 7 hours fixing it and didn't charge for that either.

They were outrageously expensive. Personably, they were great. They had computerized presentations and all that. They were good, but the price was way too high.

Quote appointment not set up at my election.
Description of Work: Wanted a quote and repair. Soonest they could get to me for an estimate was in three weeks. Said actually doing the repair would be 6-8 weeks after that. Good for them they have such good ratings from people...and good for them they have so much demand...but they've lost me as a customer, at least this time around. Clearly they don't have sufficient resources to handle the market they serve. That long a response time is too slow. I can't have such a simple project hanging out there undone for 2-3 months.

I had 3 employees from this company come out to evaluate the situation. They all had 3 different solutions. In the end, I went with the one who seemed the most knowledgeable. It solved the problem as of this far. Prior to hiring them, I stated that I would be placing their company on Angie's List so I wanted the best employee to evaluate the issue.
Description of Work: I had water problems in my basement. My home is a 3000 square foot, ranch home. They created a trench and placed tubing and gravel in the area. This was done on the interior perimeter of my basement. Then, they installed a sump pump. On the exterior of my home, they created a 30 foot trench by completing the same concept. This area was a known problem for water buildup.

We had Woods Basement systems put in a new triple safe sump pump system. They were originally scheduled for a Thursday, but nobody showed up due to employees that apparently were not able to come in. They did arrange to have someone out the next day. He was very apologetic, and was right on time. He did an excellent job installing this product. He laid rugs down so he didn't track anything into the home, he explained what he was doing and tried to complete the work as soon as possible to not further interrupt me. The system works great and we now sleep better at night. Also, after the installation they sent a slew of paperwork to follow up and have already scheduled appointments to follow up with me on the next service appointment for my system. It was a little higher than others would have charged, but the rep (John Rogers) came out with one days notice, on a weekend and advised us on a variety of things and obviously knew more than the others we had bid the job.
Description of Work: We had them put in a triple safe sump pump system with a battery backup and also had them fix a water leak that we had during serious rain.

Arrived promptly, did the work in the day and a half quoted, polite and courteous, explained what they were doing, tried hard to keep everything as clean as possible. This is a messy job; jackhammering the concrete, carrying old concrete upstairs and out to their truck, mixing concrete and carrying into the house and downstairs. They covered the floor between the door and the basement stairs. They took all the old concrete, an old drainage system that they ripped off, and all other junk back in their truck so we had nothing to dispose of. The basement was left broom clean. However, they did not clean up outside nearly as well. They spilled concrete on our driveway as they carried it; told me they would clean it up before it dried. When I returned home after they had left, there were a lot of dried concrete spots on our red tinted driveway. They returned the next day and scrubbed them, but couldn't remove them. The driveway is permanently stained with the new concrete.
Description of Work: Installed WaterGuard system around the perimeter of the basement under the floor. Connected system to existing sump pump. Installed window well drains. The WaterGuard system involved removing the concrete basement floor for 6 inches around perimeter, installing the drainage system, then pouring new concrete to finish the floor.

They did the initial work for us, but were sloppy towards the end. They put a hole in the wall that needed to be fixed. They also needed to seal the pipes in our basement, but it was so sloppy that I had to have them come back to redo it. The drainage tiles were done nicely. Unfortunately, by the end of the day, they just wanted to leave for the day. And they made a mess of my garden when they tried to dig a trench. They just wont return my phone calls and have left the job unfinished. I was happy at first with the sales and their promises, but it just ended poorly. They just left a mess.

The service was fine. The sales representative did get me $200 off the standard fee to fix a crack since I didn't have a choice but to use them. It was also the same sales representative the previous owner used, which was nice. I didn't have all the original paperwork and he did get me copies. The technician was good, polite, and cleaned everything up nicely. The service went quickly, the technician was early, but called first. The only two negatives: 1) they are busy and it was 2 weeks before they looked at the basement and another 2 weeks before they fixed it and 2) the sales representative tried to sell me more than I wanted, though it was not a hard sell at all. All the work they've done is warrantied, another benefit.
Description of Work: I had a crack in a corner of my basement that was leaking. I also had a crack on a wall that had previously been fixed and a leak in an area that had previously been fixed. I didn't have much choice in contractors because the previous owner had used Woods and if I had gone elsewhere the (transferred) warranty would have been voided.

I met with a representative from Woods and was told about the benefits of purchasing their product. It was explained to me that their product would be placed in the ground differently than my current system and that this would prevent future clogging from dirt. The installers came and were very prompt and professional. When they finished the job and I was shown what was done, it looked like what was originally in my basement. The installers told me that was the way it had to be done due to the placement of the footer. I feel that I was sold a product and that it was not delivered. I could have gone with another reputable company and paid half of the cost that I did.

Response from Woods Basement Systems Inc
THE ORIGINAL SYSTEM CONTRACT CALLED FOR 140 FEET OF WATERGUARD. BECAUSE OF THE FOOTER WE ADJUSTED THE ORIGINAL 140 FEET AND ADDED, FOR FREE, 140 FEET OF FLOWGUARD TOO. THIS PRODUCT ALLOWS THE INSTALLERS THE ABILITY TO ADJUST TO UNFORESEEN "FOOTER" SITUATIONS AS WELL AS TO PROPERLY WARRANT THE WATERGUARD SYSTEM. SHE SAW THE ORIGINAL, OLD, DRAIN TILE BELOW OUR WATERGUARD AND FLOWGUARD AND ASSUMED WE HAD PUT IT THERE. THE OLD SYSTEM WAS LEFT IN PLACE AND SHE RECEIVED THE EXTRA 140 FEET OF WATERPROOFING MATERIAL AT NO CHARGE. WE THANK HER FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO SOLVE HER WET BASEMENT PROBLEM.

MR. COX CAME BACK AND WAS AGAIN FRIENDLY, INFORMATIVE AND POLITE. HE SAID HE NEEDED TO TALK TO HIS BOSS AND THAT HE BE SUBMITTING A PROPOSAL FOR A SOLUTION SOON. THAT WAS 2 WEEKS AGO...
Description of Work: WE BOUGHT A HOUSE WHERE THE BASEMENT FLOOR WAS CUT OUT IN THE CORNER OF THE BASEMENT AND DRAIN TILE AND A SUMP PUMP WERE INSTALLED. THE REP (MR. COX) WAS VERY PUNCTUAL, INFORMATIVE AND POLITE. HE SUGGESTED WE CALL THE COMPANY THAT DID THE WORK BECAUSE THERE MAY BE A WARRANTY AVAILABLE. THAT COMPANY SEEMED TO NOT WANT ANYTHING TO DO WITH US. THEY PRODUCED A LETTER TO THE PREVIOUS OWNER THAT APPARENTLY VOIDED THE TRANSFERABLE WARRANTY. SO WE CALLED WOOD'S BASEMENT BACK.

STEVE IS THE MAN THAT CAME AND HE CAME IN AND LOOKED IN THE BASEMENT. HE SUGGESTED THAT THEY PUT A MEMBERING OF SOME KIND ON THE CRACKS, LIKE A SKIN, OR PLASTIC. THEY DIG OUT THE CRACK THAT IS LEAKING AND PUT A BAND-AID THING OVER IT. THEY PUT THE TILE AROUND THE BASEMENT AND GOES INTO IN THE SUMP PUMP. THE TILE WAS NOT PUT COMPLETELY AROUND THE BASEMENT, SO NATURALLY HE SUGGESTED PUTTING IT AROUND THE BASEMENT AND PATCH UP THAT ONE HOLE. THAT WAS GOING TO COST AN EXTRA $2,500. THE THING THAT BOTHERED ME THE MOST IS THAT WHAT HE DID TO SHOW ME IS HE TOOK A HOSE WHERE IT WAS LEAKING, STUCK THE HOSE IN AND THE WATER WAS COMING IN THE BASEMENT AND KEPT IT RUNNING. HE TOOK THE HOSE OUT AND LEFT THE HOLE THERE. HE DID NOT FILL IT IN SO IT COULD CONTINUE TO LEAK IN EVERY TIME IT RAINS. THAT'S JUST NOT RIGHT. WE TOOK SOME DIRT AND FILLED IT IN AND HAVE NOT HAD ANYMORE LEAKING. HE WAS ALSO TALKING ABOUT PUTTING HUGE HUMIDIFIER IN. THAT WAS GOING TO COST $1,600. SO I SAID NO.

THE SALES MAN WAS VERY NICE. THE WORKER WAS EFFICIENT, BUT I DIDN'T HAVE THE SAME CONFIDENCE IN HIM THAT I DID IN THE SALESMAN. THERE WERE NEW CRACKS IN THE BASEMENT FLOOR AFTER HE LEFT, BUT HE ASSURED ME THAT THEY WERE NOT A PROBLEM. I THINK IF THEY TOOK THE TIME TO CUT THE FLOOR BEFORE USING THE JACK HAMMER IT WOULD HAVE BEEN NEATER AND AVOIDED CRACKS. I HAVE NO WATER NOW, SO FOR NOW I AM HAPPY.
