He ws nice enough to call me back within 10 minutes, came out that day, and had the guys out on Monday and did the job. They did a fine job.

I called Tony's Roofing & Construction to inquire about a roofing repair and no one returned my call. That's the first big warning sign about a bad contractor when they don't return your call.

I called about 4 months ago and asked for a free estimate. He came out and gave me one and it was the best price that I had gotten, but his English was nearly non-existent. He knew enough though to talk roofing and contracts. Then about 2 weeks ago a chunk of my roof came off in a storm, so I decided to pull the trigger on a new one. I talked with Tony again and he said it'd give me a little more than the price he quoted earlier, I had him come out and we went over details. He sat down and I signed a boilerplate contract with him and paid a little under 1/2 up front via personal check. The contract did not specify any particular brand of products, but I got the color and quality of shingles that I wanted. About 2 weeks later he was scheduled to start work. We had a 1-day delay due to rain which we discussed on the phone. I felt it was reasonable; I don't want anyone slipping off of my roof. I have a VERY high roof (3 stories) with a steep pitch. So the next morning at 7:10 a van of laborers pulled up, and at 7:20 a polish-speaking guy pulls up with a dumpster filled with ladders, OSB, underlayment material, flashing and tools. About 8:15 a truck drops off a pallet of 40 year GAF architectural shingles. Bang! They get to work and put up sheets to protect my siding and my neighbors' siding and roofs. At lunch break they all break together and take about 1/2 hr. They clean up their lunch trash. By the end of the day they have 1/2 the roof off and have started shingling. They worked from 7:00 AM until dark. They left some of their large tools and tarps overnight on my property. The do a "light" clean-up at the end of the day just to make things safe and so that the front of the home doesn't look like a disaster area. Day 2 they have the full roof off and about 3/4 shingled, but not the ridge or chimney done. Day 3 they finish up the ridge and flashing, and started scrubbing down my house as well as the neighbors' siding. They removed dirty hand prints from the gutters, they used WD40 to get the worst of the tar off of my siding. I had some very minor interior window frame damage because of the roofing, the foreman cleaned that up. Tony came by and I walked around the house with him. I pointed out a couple of items that I was unsure of, he repaired one and said the other wouldn't be an issue. (I think!) He asked if I was happy, I said yes, we shook, I paid the 2nd half of the bill and that was it. Now I have a new roof. To be honest, clean-up wasn't perfect but it was "acceptable". That is a small price for me to pay for a good roof at a great price. As of today I am happy, and I have confidence in my roof and in the guy who installed it. I also feel that I could contact him if there were a problem and he'd have someone out to repair.
