+ 0 moreOverall the project went well. Jack was great about staying in contact (email works best) and keeping me updated before/during. Note they are a small crew so if your project isn't urgent you may have to wait...I waited about 6 weeks from signing contract. Only reason I didn't give an "A" was that some of the masonry and roof removal work was messy and debris got all over my lawn/landscaping. This was after specifically asking them to cover with plastic or whatever to catch debris. I'll be picking gravel out of my lawn for the next few years. They do clean up and sweep well on sidewalks, etc....but care needs to be taken to prevent debris/mortar from falling into landscaped areas. So far the roof and brickwork looks good and I'll be calling them back in the future for additional tuckpointing work.

+ -1 moreI know that this was a very busy time for all roofing and gutter contractors because of the heavy rain and flooding the week prior to my contact. I was able to get an initial estimate quickly, but needed some adjustments that took longer than I would have liked. Once a contract was signed the work was done quickly but the cement didn not hold and connections were leaking in spots probably because the extensions were moved to add rubberized extensions. All in all, the job is what I wanted and just needs some tweeks in spots and new cement. This company put in my roof and gutters as well as a new chimney and I have been pleased with the work.
Description of Work: Replaced one downspout and cut off and extended other downspouts with elbows and extensions outward. Cemented no longer necessary downspout entries into house.

+ 1 moreThe work was done on time and finished just about on schedule. Bad weather delayed the project. On work days, I made sure no one parked near the porch to keep the area clear. Workers were helpful and at the end of each day cleaned the work site, which made it easy for people to park their cars at night. I was totally pleased by the work and the responsiveness of the company. For example one day I mentioned to Chris, the foreman, that a few years ago I patched the old siding at the roof line in order to close a hole created by squirrels that burrowed in. Chris suggested adding aluminum trim to prevent this from ever happening again. An excellent suggestion! It gets better, the added work was done at no additional fee. If you need siding, hire these people. You will not be disappointed.
Description of Work: Removed old siding and windows on back porch of 3-flat. Installed new wood frames on window openings. Replaced porch door. Installed new siding and new vinyl double hung windows. Photo of new windows and siding:

Description of Work: Jack was great. He did a complete tear off of my roof, rebuild the front and south walls. He also tuckpointed all three exposed sides and replaced a 4' x 8' section of brick that was crumbling. He also bricked in a door and set it up to be ready to receive a window. I think there's more, but I can't remember.

+ -1 moreThis was a good example of a contractor/crew knowing their trade and working with other contractors needed for the total job. It was Jack's suggestion to check the 3 downspouts that ran from the roof to a buried tile run-off line before proceeding with any concrete repair. I did so and a plumbing contractor found that he was correct. It resulted in replacing a section of the drain that was cracked and uneven. Now the work required the coordination of a plumbing contractor to lay the new drain line under the planned concrete walkway. The total work was accomplished over a few weeks of weeks and the work progressed smoothly even though everyone worked during the hottest week of the summer weather. J.L. Contractor Services provided quality services with a superb crew. I would hire them again..
Description of Work: Jack Lekarczyk provided a proposal to remove and pour a new concrete 135' x 3.5'.walkway and curb. The wlkway was cracking and shifting in several areas. This included the removal and replacement of the existing chain link fence attached to and adjacent curb. New posts were installed when the curb was poured. Because this was located in the rear of an apartment building with wooden porches, the work also included the removal of the old footings and pouring new footings for the 6 vertical supports. A few additional walkway sections were replaced around the stairs of the porches and the concrete steps going down to basement areas. Finally, a section was cut out of an existing pad that covered a sewer drain. New concrete was poured after the sewer line was replaced. His crew of 2 men did an exceptioinal job on all the work noted above. They cleaned the area of debris at the close of each day and when the job was completed, except for the new concrete you would not have known they were there.,

We walked the property together and discussed how he would solve our roofing issues when installing the new roof. His answers were very thorough and took his time explaining his approach and its importance. Jack provided a written quote before leaving. -- His crew arrived on time when scheduled and worked efficiently. They cleaned the area after each day's work. The crew was courteous to my wife and infants. -- The project took two days. -- About a week after the project, Jack called to ask if I had any questions or comments. (How many contractors take the time to provide this aspect of customer service!?!) I had no questions and was very pleased with his work.

+ 0 moreExcellent. The entire project including demolition, construction of masonry walls,(including time for the mortar to set) building of step forms, pouring the concrete and installing the steel braces took a total of 10 days.
Description of Work: We needed to have our leaking masonry/concrete porch rebuilt. I interviewed 7 masonry/concrete contractors (all highly rated from Angie's List) and found the owner Jack Lekarczyk to be the most professional, patient (I asked alot of questions) and knowledgeable. Many contractors wanted to fill in our porch rather than suspend the steps and allow us to keep the storage space we had underneath. Their estimates weren't as detailed as J.L's were either. I spoke to an architect and got the details we needed in order for us to get a permit as homeowners. As the porch was an exact replacement to what we had, we only had to submit pictures, a plat of survey and the proposal. Jack helped us quickly obtain the permit thru his expediter. His crew did a great job - they were professional, neat and cleaned up every evening. His masons worked with us on the mortor color - our house has about 5 different of mortor depending on when tuckpointed was done. He also gave us options for the brick itself. We were impressed that they used only face brick on the outside masonry wall rather than a combo of facebrick and common brick. They also installed water flashings and weep ropes. Most impressive were the metal and wood braces Jack suggested to give us our suspended steps additional strength. the concrete on the landing and steps is lovely. My only complaint, I wish the new limestone capstones used were the same thickness as the old. We are very pleased with the porch and now look forward to rainstorms as we don't have to worry about water in our basement! I also have before and after pictures, but I don't see where I can upload them for this review.

+ 0 moreI was very pleased with their work. They were clean and neat. They cleaned up after themselves and took care not to damage shrubbery. Although they were very busy they were able to work me in a few days prior to the scheduled date. They followed up with me and I found them to be professional and knowledgeable in their field.
Description of Work: They had to break the old chimney down to the roof flashing and rebuild the chimney back up to the proper height. They added a flue and installed a steel cap over the flue. They replaced all the deteriorated bricks.

I sent the check and they started the next day, even though they hadn't got the check yet. The work was excellent and he had one person helping him one day. He cleaned up very nicely. The work was excellent, I have nothing to complain about.
Description of Work: They did the concrete work for my new front porch, put in a new railing, and part of the sidewalk.

+ -1 moreThis crew has to be the best in the city. They work best with emails as they inspected the roof by the next day after I sent an email, if not the same day. They were done in two days and did a magnificent job at clean-up. My neighbor even commented on how the crew took care not to disturb her flowers. The new chimneys appear to be great craft work. The proposal was a flat price with a contract that stated any replaced sheathing would be covered by the price quote. Any possible change in plans or costs (such as the chimneys in my case) will be affirmed by an immediate on-site call.
Description of Work: Complete new roof. Removed down to the sheathing, which was spaced sheathing. Early 20th century frame house had precarious chimneys that were disintegrating on the inside and were alerted to the conditions on the outside that were unsafe for J L's workers.

Jack came out the day I called because of I leak I thought was fixed. He spent at least 2 ½ hours looking for the problem. He even located the source of the basement leak which several others had not been able to identify. He worked with me to find best windows for price. His workmen were prompt, friendly and helpful. They waited for my neighbor to open the gate to finish the last bit of siding repair so I won’t need to take another day off. I am so happy to have found them.
Description of Work: Replaced 4 windows, repaired front façade siding, replaced gutter downspout and chimney flashing. Also patched and repaired garage roof.

+ 0 moreJack was very responsive from the begining. We are a small condo association and he was very patient with the time it took forthe association to meet and decide on a contrator to do the work. His proposal was extremely detailed with clear explainations or the work he was going to do. His crew was on time every day, did the work efficiently, and left the jobsite as cleanas they found it. He and I did a walk through and Jack pointed out a couple of punchlist items on his own. He had the crew back out the next day to touch up the items and everything was great. The work was done as proposed, on time and for the quoted price.
Description of Work: They rebuilt two chimneys and repaired a third, including installing proper caps. They also performed some tuckpointing and brick repalcement in areas that had deteriorated due to water errosion.

+ 1 moreI emailed Jack to get a quote on these three projects. He sent Chris out the next day and sent me the quote right away. The price was extremely reasonable so I jumped at the opportunity and scheduled the work for the following week. My garage was a complete mess. The old clapboard siding was rotting and falling off and the door wouldn't stay closed. It was so bad I thought I might have to replace the whole garage. Chris assured me their work would fix my problems. The funny thing is that I had Home Depot come out earlier to give me a quote on the same projects and they said it was too complicated to even give me a quote. On the first day, they got started and before I could blink the gutter and downspout were installed and looked perfect. Then they started on the garage, first by stripping off what was left of the old siding and then cladding it in plywood. They added a moisture barrier and finally the siding. It was crazy how fast they worked and everything looked great. The second day they finished adding the siding and put the door in and rebuilt the soffit. Finally they put the windows in and were done. When they left the yard was spotless and the garage looks brand new! I am very pleased with the experience. They were fast and professional and did a great job. I feel like I got a brand new garage for $3500.

They were accessible and returned our calls during the week-long process right away. Our roof looks really good, as do the dormers. I highly recommend them. We had put off getting a new roof for years because we were so worried about getting ripped off. Wish we'd found these guys long ago rather than worrying about the snow caving in the roof! I cannot say enough about the great job they did in a quick turn-around for a reasonable price. We made the right call in having them do the dormers, which look top notch.

+ -1 moreAfter the July/August rains, our chimney began to fall apart. Jake responded quickly and effectively removed the existing chimney and debris and had a new one up within a day. His crew even came out and repaired parts of the roof that had been damaged when the chimney began to crumble. I would recommend JL highly, this is the second time I've used Jake - he's quick to respond, honest, and does great work. I couldn't be happier with his services.

+ 1 moreI highly recommend J.L.Contractor Services. Jack arrived right on time for our first meeting. He inspected the problem areas, discussed options and wrote a proposal immediately. Jack answered my many questions, revealing his vast knowledge of construction. He readily agreed to hold off work until my summer vacation, when I could be home all day. Before the summer arrived, I made several changes on my order and Jack always cheerfully rewrote the proposal. There were other delays (my vacation etc) but Jack never complained. Finally, I was ready for the job. Jack’s team arrived on time and quietly got to work. They were polite, hardworking and efficient. They honored my requests and checked to be sure that work was going according to my specifications. At one point, I expressed concern over a particular tuck-pointing color. Jack had his crew change the color to suit me. Every night the men cleaned up and hauled off debris. Jack gave the roof a 10yr warranty. A month after the job, Jack sent someone out immediately when I called about debris in my chimney cleanout. He backs up his work!
Description of Work: J.l. replaced my home and porch roof, tore down my old chimney and built a new one, tuck pointed certain areas and replaced broken bricks in the wall.

We did have to spend more but Jack was straight forward before we started in saying "We don't know what is under the old chimney so costs may change" He explained any issues that came up and worked with me on the costs. It passed inspection and it looks great! The old one was collapsing due to the way it was built. I had another contractors pass on the job! Jack took it on and did what we needed. He used some parts over to save us money.. A+

+ -1 moreTheir quote was in the middle of the pack in terms of price, but they were available more quickly than the cheapest tuckpointer and had less attitude. They showed up for the estimate when they said they would, showed up for the job on time, finished within a day and were friendly and offered advice on other things that we could have other companies fix. As a result, the house looks much nicer than it did before they arrived. We are very pleased.
Description of Work: The tuckpointers were clean, thorough and fast. They hit spots we didn't even realize were in need of repair until we noticed they'd filled them in. The few items that we noticed they missed when we did our inspection, they took care of promptly. They replaced a broken concrete exterior sill with a limestone one, filled in gaps and cracks in the mortar, replaced a few sagging lintels, closed the gap between the driveway and the foundation, filled in cracks between split sills, filled in a hole in the brick with new bricks.
