The repair I needed seemed fairly simple - replacing the plug hole on the machine where you plug in the foot pedal. The repair person showed up later than expected, and instead of fixing the machine, advised me that I would not be able to get that part if the machine was more than 7 years old. He advised me to buy a new Brother machine, showed it to me on the internet, collected his $69 cash and went on his merry way. I later took it into a Singer repair shop, and they fixed it for $89 within a week. I called Gunther to complain, and they mailed me a refund check - which was an extremely pleasant surprises.

Horrible absolutely horrible
Description of Work: I have a brother sewing machine and it wasn’t sewing right. It would nest and the I needed to finish some embroidery. So I called and he told me he did Brother sewing machines. He told me $69.00. He came to the door walked it and looked at my machine and told me he didn’t do embroidery machines. I said okay. Figured he would leave. Then he sat down and played with it. He used a can of compressed air which you aren’t supposed to do because it can actually lodge things in the motor. He then found out that my bobbin was nicked. Fine. I’ll get a new bobbin. He couldn’t adjust the top tension. He told me I have to go to a certified dealer for that. Bottom line I paid him $79.00. He told me it’s $10.0O more for a brother. For. 5 minute cleaning which consisted of him blowing canned air

Punctual, professional. It works perfectly now. I just joined so I decided to check out the ratings for my sewing machine repair man. When I saw the other reviews online I felt compelled to write a review because my experience was very positive.
Description of Work: I have an old Singer Model 645 that I purchased around 1970. It had never been professionally serviced in all these years and stopped working. It was clear something was wrong with the bobbin. Garry replaced bobbin assembly, cleaned and oiled the machine.

My machine is 42 years old, and Gary told me that he was working for Singer in CA when the machine I have was manufactured. He knew everything there was to know about my machine, he gave me many tips on how to care for my machine in the future. When he returned my machine, it was working very well, but he in tuning it up further, it started to act up, so he took it back again to his shop. It turned out to have a short in the cord that I never noticed before. I knew it was probably something simple, but he didn't want to leave it the way it was. He came back the next day and I can honestly say my machine has never worked so well, not even when it was new. I knew it was going to cost a bit of money to fix and old machine, some might noy want to spend that kind of money when machines are so cheap these days, but this machine has been an old friend, and does everything I need it to do. It has metal gears, and the reason I want to keep it is that it is in its own cabinet, I do not have to haul it out onto a table. I can just lower it into the cabinet when I am done. I read some of the other reviews, but I did not encounter any problems with his demeanor or his attitude. Gary was professional, kind, pleasant, and very informative. I will call him again to have my machine tuned up in the future with no hesitation.
Description of Work: Gary provided in-home sewing machine repair. The first time he came he checked out my machine, determined that I had broken two gears and then proceeded to ask questions about any other problems I was having. He made notes on tape and affixed it to the machine so he would not forget anything. He had to take the machine with him to repair it in his shop and scheduled to return it the next week (he has a regular route that he covers on different days of the week).

I wish Angie's list had responded to my initial request to check this provider out but they did not. So I took a chance.
Description of Work: I have an old Pfaff 260 that belonged to my mother in law. Good, solid, metal machine but it turns out the motor was shot. I found Chicago Sewing Machine Repair via a Google search and they would come to your home so I decided to try them as the machine is so heavy and I live on a third floor with no elevator. The gentleman doing the repair and estimate work could only come to my neighborhood between 6 and 9PM about a week after I called so I agreed. Knowing that it was in the evening and I live by myself I arranged for my family to check in with me and to know who this gentleman was just in case. He assessed my machine and determined that the motor was shot and that he would need to take it back to his shop and he promised it back in a week. After looking at the machine he did call me back and offer either a new motor or a reconditioned one for a little less money. I chose the reconditioned one and he said he would have it for me in a week. Again he called to say he would be in my area between 6 and 9PM to deliver the machine. This time it was closer to 9PM before he arrived. Again I let my family know my situation and they called to check on me. He put the machine back in its case and then threaded it and showed me that it was working and sewed through several layers of fabric and reviewed with me what he had done (he found another dial was not working and fixed that as well) and tightened it into the case for me and showed me that as well. He was polite and efficient. He indicated to me that he had been doing this work for 45 years. Time will tell if the machine will hold up but he assured me it was a good. The only drawback was this man only would take cash!! There was an initial $79 cost to come and assess the machine which he did credit against the entire bill. I do not keep that kind of cash around so had to go get cash and be ready for him. Unfortunate that he wouldn't even take credit card.

I called to ask if they worked on my specific sewing/embroidery machine, and I was assured he did. I was told there was a service charge that would cover most repairs. I was able to get an appointment for the next day. When he came, he took one look at my Viking/Husqvarna and tried to tell me that the problem was in my selection of tension on the machine. The bottom line is that he did NOT know how to repair this machine as this is a top of the line, computerized model. This machine requires a special card for adjustments, and he did not have the card. The bottom line is that he still wanted his service fee, as he did drive to my house. I managed to talk him down to half of the fee as I did tell him the type of machine it was and what it required before he came. The fault was his, not mine. While I did find him personally rude, he did seem to know what he was doing. If I had an older machine I wouldn't hesitate to use him, as he did appear to know sewing machines in general, and his price, I thought, was reasonable.

Description of Work: I called to see what a quote would cost and where he was located. I got a very RUDE man on the phone who said that he only does in-home service, and that if I didn't want that his service wasn't for me, then HUNG UP on me!!! I couldn't believe that he would be that rude as to simply hang up and not even offer someone that he would recommend to take my machine to. I would never recommend this company to anyone if that is how they treat possible customers.

My older Kenmore sewing machine was not working properly. The repairman came to my house and checked out the machine. There were a couple of things wrong with the machine and he was not able to repair it at my house. He needed to order some new parts to replace some that were damaged on my machine. He took the machine with him. He said he would return it in a week. After a week he called to let me know that he had not yet received the parts he needed to repair my machine. He would not be able to return my machine until he got the parts. The parts did come in and he brought my machine back in two weeks. It works beautifully. I am very pleased with the work he did. It works just like it did when it was brand new.

I am an avid quilter and teach classes at several Quilt Shops. I do not like leaving either of my sewing machines at a repair shop for a week or two for servicing. Garry seemed knowledgeable, efficient and all work is guaranteed. From the contact call, to setting up an appointment, to servicing the machines - took only four days. I have recommended this service to many of my fellow quilters.
Description of Work: Was able to have both sewing machines serviced without leaving home (or lugging them to a store) and being without them for any period of time. Garry was able to fix the problem I've always had with my Pfaff 2056 that wound soft bobbins. It now winds perfectly. Repair work done on the second machine was discounted. I will use this service in the future and have recommended it to many fellow quilters. Oh, did I mention, the work is guaranteed, and it took only 4 days from the initial contact to the actual repair appointment...

Poor start, poor finish! Only trying to set up appointment
Description of Work: Crabby man! Gave me time frame of 4 to 9 on a Friday night and he was very off putting just setting up appointment. Does come to home which is good but a 5 hour time frame is too much. Gave me a long lecture about his personal service and how he does not rush so can't tell me more specific time. I said I would call back if I was not going to be available that night but to put me on his appointment schedule for now and when I did he had already cancelled my appointment!

I FOUND A GUY AT MY LOCAL FABRIC STORE WHO DOES THE SAME THING FOR HALF THE COST. THE REPAIRMAN WAS VERY PROFESSIONAL AND PROMPT BUT TOO EXPENSIVE IN MY MIND. I KNOW HE CAME TO MY HOUSE, BUT I WOULD RATHER HAVE SAVED THE MONEY AND DRIVEN THE MACHINE TO THE STORE MYSELF.
