At first things went smoothly and communication was good. I initially sent an email and got a reply within a day or two. Then a couple more back and forth emails turned around promptly etc. Edger came out to meet with us and seemed reasonably competent, though not a great listener. We picked fabric and asked to get a quote. Edger promised to have numbers for me that evening. Two weeks later I can't get Edger to respond to email or voicemail messages I've left.
Description of Work: Contacted about two projects, one a reupholstering job and one a custom piece from scratch

I called in and it took 2 weeks to get a return call and to set an appointment to bring the cushions into the business location. There Edgar told me that they would be covered in material (he would decide) and feathers added (they are expensive) and he would call in approximately 2 weeks and the total would be $400, in cash, with $200 down. @ 3 weeks later I made my first call. They weren't done. About 3 weeks after that, I made my second call. They weren't done. This kept on for quite a while; sometimes I wouldn't get a return call for a week. Then they were lost, then found...then lost again. Then I was told they would be ready on a date. Then I would call for pick up and it would be another week before a call back and they weren't done. Finally after all summer, they would be ready on Monday, the 8th of October (please note when I dropped them off). I called first thing in the morning that date. Edgar actually answered the phone. They weren't done but they would be done the next day Tuesday, the 9th (he thought). But I had to fly out to Conn. that date as my friend was going thru a cancer scare (and he uses that I didn't pick them up then because 'I was on vacation' as an excuse...which I wasn't and I called back when I was able to return.( At one point, during this time situation, I had called and said I was picking them up and I wanted my deposit returned and he said that they had cut out the material...it was still almost a month before I got the cushions). I asked him WHEN he was going to be there so I could pick them up and talk about the balance; he made the date and time as November 7th at 1 p.m. He didn't show up. His brother was there and in order to get the cushions, he said I would have to pay the entire balance. I told him the cushions didn't look right; they didn't look like my cushions. Edgar did not write any instructions on my receipt so the adding of feathers, which didn't happen, could not be verified. I took the cushions and reluctantly paid the balance... When I took the cushions home, the 2 small ones had a 'lip' on them that didn't fit my sofa design at all. I took pictures of the naked sofa and returned with the cushions and the covers. Jose 'punched' the large ones into the cushions (ok....not great but works) and then decided to punch in the small 'lip' on both and put filling into the places that don't work. I WILL EVENTUALLY HAVE TO HAVE AT LEAST THE SMALL ONES RECOVERED. I didn't want 'fill' in the cushions having paid $400!!!!! to have them re-covered with zippers I didn't want or ask for. Before I could return home, Edgar, who was still driving around somewhere, left a phone message that said "I don't know why you could be upset..you GOT your cushions". Then someone must have spoke to him because he left another message that said he would 'do anythign to make it right'. Since I truly believe that two of the cushions are wrong (and the big ones aren't great either) I have written him TWICE asking for a refund of HALF (not the total..I have never asked for that) of the money paid or $200. He has left a message saying that he 'cares about his customers" But not response to either letter or no return of ANY money. Since he didn't write ANYTHING down on my receipt, I wont' take him to small claims court, but I intend to tell everyone of my dissatisfaction with this company and how I feel I was cheated out of my money. This company is the worse experience I have had with Angie's List people...or any business for that matter.
Description of Work: Dropped off to re-cover, without zippers, 2 large, 2 small sofa cushions with cotton or duck or some other inexpensive but solid material so I can then put them in the upholstery cushions in which they fit ON JUNE 1, 2012 (please note this drop-off date!). Informed that day that they would be adding feathers to the existing feathers in the interior and that is why the cost would be $400 total...and in cash. Half down.

I contacted Deko about having the cushions on my mid-century daybed recovered. I emailed them the details about my project as well as a photo. It took several days to get a response. When they did respond, they offered to come out to my house during the week or let me drop the cushions off on a Sat. I work long hours so a weekday was not an option. I emailed back and said I would prefer to bring them in on Sat. if they would let me know what time would work. I did not hear back again from anyone until the following Thursday, and I suspect that was only because I emailed to tell them I was very disappointed that I never heard from anyone and mentioned that I had gotten their name from this site. I decided to go with another upholsterer who has been extremely responsive and professional.

I found Deko on Angie's List and chose it based on its reviews and proximity to my home. I live in Logan Square so I wanted to support a local business. I called and spoke with Edgar. I explained that I had a leather sofa that I had purchased a couple of years ago and the padding in the seating had completely collapsed. He immediately knew what type of sofa I had, asking if the cushions (or seating) were connected to the sofa, as opposed to removable seat cushions. I replied, yes. He explained that many newer leather sofas are manufactured this way and that this was a common problem that he was familiar with. He said he would be able to do it for about $400 and he would pick up and deliver the sofa at no extra cost.I asked if he could pick up my sifa that same evening and he said he could. I was held up at work and couldn't leave to make our appointment so I called him to ask if he could pick up that Saturday. He said he would. He arrived that Saturday (about 15 minutes after our agreed upon time) with an elderly man. (I don't mean to sound harsh but if I were to see that elderly man in public, I would think he was homless.) Nonethless, Edgar and his assistant came in and began to take the sofa legs off and I explained that we had trouble afixing them when I first bought the sofa so they weren't very easy to remove. He stated he could fix them for an additionally $75. Edgar left me with a receipt for the sofa that included a description of the work he was going to performa and the amount of the deposit I gave him ($250). He told me it would take him about a week. It ended up taking about a week and half and a couple of phone calls but when it arrived I had what seemed to be a brand new leather couch. The seating was super firm and there was no visible evidence of the upholstery work. All in all it was a great experience and I will definitely work with Deko for my future upholstery needs. I highly recommend Deko.
Description of Work: My brown, leather sofa needed the seating (cushions) redone. I bought it a couple of years ago and it lost ALL firmness. Because the seating was connected directly to the sofa, Deko had to remove the leather covering, added wood framing, firm cushions and new webbing, then reconnect the leather.

The company provided very good service. I emailed them initially and provided a photo since the style of my chair was a little unusual. Edgar responded quickly and came to my house to give an estimate. He took the chair that day and then brought it back at the agreed-upon time. The company did a lovely job and was very helpful with any questions I had. I liked the fact that they didn't charge an extra pick up and delivery fee.
Description of Work: My teak planter's chair had a cane seat and back that was damaged. I decided to have the caning replaced with fabric instead. I provided the fabric and Deko constructed an upholstered insert that looks great and will be far more durable than caning.

After finding Deko online and reading a coupld of good reviews I called for their hours (because they are not listed on the website). I had to leave a message (it was Saturday) but within a few days I received a return call. They offered to set up an appointment to for a consult on the job at my condo. They were able work meet me in the evening to accommodate my work schedule. They came over with several swatch books and gave me an estimate on the spot and I agreed to let them take the chair then. Less than two weeks later I had a beautifully reupholstered chair.
Description of Work: I had a chair reupholstered.

They did a wonderful job re-upholstering an overstuffed living room chair, and we love it! It is very beautiful now and the craftmanship is excellent. Edgar also provided a lot of useful information about fabric selection and I was able to select what I really loved. Pick up, delivery, and estimates were free. Edgar has a wonderful spirit and I enjoyed meeting him. He is now re-uphostering for me a sofa and another side chair.
Description of Work: An old, well-loved, overstuffed living room chair was re-upholstered and repaired. This 40 year old chair needed new fabric, cording, and new/fresh padding(?). They also refinished/repaired visible chips in the wood. I am very pleased with the results.
