The old tree had been topped over 40 years ago. At least 40 to 50 feet of limb growth was above the topped portion of the tree. During a bad winter storm in December, two enormous limbs came crashing to the ground that had broken off at the topped junctions, narrowly missing structures. At that time, I realized the maple tree had to come down. Our area was in an emergency situation at the end of December due extensive storm damage around the city. I could not get any tree service to respond other than Don, who in spite of the crunch, offered to come out and help with cleanup. Fortunately, a nearby neighbor with a chain saw offered to come over on Christmas Eve afternoon and help me cut up the fallen limbs so I didn't need to deter Don from his other clean up obligations. Shortly thereafter, I left town to visit family over New Years. Don called me saying was freed up enough to take the tree down that week. However I wanted to be home when the tree was removed so I declined his offer at that time but told him I'd get back to him. When I realized the weather was going to turn for the better, I delayed the removal until this past week to allow the deep snow in the yard to melt. Don was willing to work with me on payments options, in the end he agreed to a reduced price so that I didn't need to use one of the payment plans he offered. His team with the equipment arrived 1/2 hour prior to when Don began working, 5 trucks/trailers and a 5-man crew. They promptly set up the equipment, placed plywood planks down to protect the lawn and sidewalk and precisely at 8 a.m., Don was in the bucket truck sawing the tree. He is a true professional and has amazing skill when it comes to felling trees. He works well with his team, they were like a well-oiled machine. This was the second large maple he has removed from my property. The first tree was about 50 years old and was dead as a doornail. On that one, he climbed the tree himself and took it down from top to bottom in short order. It was astounding to watch. The tree he felled yesterday was enormous and because of the potential damage that could happen, I requested proof of insurance which he happily provided. I also requested a signed quote before the work began and he provided that as well. He is an excellent communicator with strong character and integrity. I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone who is looking for a top notch arborist.
Description of Work: Removed an 80 year old Norway Maple tree that was close to the house. It loomed over my home and my neighbor's house.

Don Taylor and his crew did an outstanding job removing two large ponderosa pine trees from our property. The trees were too close to the house and were taken down for safety concerns due to the heavy winds we have been experiencing. Don arrived on time and began work immediately. Don and his steam are extremely skilled professional, knowledgeable, and respectful of their clients. Work was done efficiently and after the trees were down you could not tell that they were even there to begin with. I am very satisfied with the service I received and highly recommend Don Taylor. I won't be calling anyone else.

The price was quite high but we agreed to it. The tree was maybe acceptable but substandard. He showed up with three trucks and five people for a small tree. It was less than 6 feet tall. The job was shotty the people left without re installing the irrigation system. When I complained and told him to come fix it, he didn't have an invoice or a receipt from the nursery for the tree with the warranty. When I told him I required this from him for the tree he became quite emotional saying he has been in had spent a lot of money into this transaction and it would hurt him. He wrote an invoice down in pencil with no name on it. I finally gave him the check and told him I would require him to give me a invoice with his company letter head. It has been two weeks and I still have not heard from him. I went to the nursery to complain, they were able to find the tree receipt. However, it was not in our name, but they have promised us they will link us and stand behind us on that warranty even if he doesn't. His service is below normal standard by a great deal. I told the nursery it would take me a long time to recommend his services ever again.

Response from Don Taylor Contracting
I did an excellent and very professional job for(Member name removed), I had a dozen trees in one truck and tools in another and a stump grinder in my other truck. We did install his irrigation lines back in place however he had additional lines exposed prior to our arrival that I did caver back up for him. The supplies for this job were around $400 and the original bid was $650 but (Member name removed) only paid $585. I have sent him an official receipt and he continuously made excuses as to why he couldn't pay. The tree was a very slow growing Japanese white pine that may only have been 5-6 ft tall but was about twenty years old and required extremely careful delivery and handling procedures which I made sure we took great care of this very expensive tree. We also guarantee our work for one year as well the tree is also, and we have a fast efficient crew that had a dozen more trees to plant so the amount of equipment was irrelevant to cost but necessary we did exactly what we promised and got shorted $65.
