They were very responsive, professional, detailed and most important, friendly. Great customer service from the office staff, and each one of their sub-contractors for electrical, plumbing and hardwood. I interviewed five (5) contractors and selected them. The work took longer than I expected due to delays beyond their (permits) control, but they kept me informed.

Brad Huber came out to do the estimate and he was very, very nice. Was sympathetic to the loss and that our 2 teenage children who live in the basement had been displaced for a month while we dried it out and had the carpet ripped up and the walls aerated. Based on Brads professional visit we told the insurance company we would use Purofirst for the whole thing. Carpet, baseboards and painting. Big mistake. Brad said they could do it quickly. It was another 2 weeks before they could actually do it. Then Dotty his assistant finally called to say they would arrive on Monday. No time given, no phone call to give us warning, just 3 guys showed up at noon one day. I repeatedly asked for some info but the communication is only excellent with Purofirst before they get the work. After that no one cares. They completed the work and then afterwards I found that they had emptied the closets without warning and painted the closets. Leaving the basement in a huge mess that took us weeks to put back together. Then we discovered an $250.00 iPod missing. I stress I cannot confirm 100% it was Purofirst workers that took it, but it was there in a closet before they started and gone after they left. I also found some kind of glue all over some items in the closet which took me ages to clean off everything. My biggest issue was the aggressive attitude and sheer nastiness of the Purtoforst staff in particular Debbie Nagy. We had two different types of carpet in the basement one very cheap and one very expensive the average of both was about $3.00 per sq ft. Purofirst sent out only at best $2.00 a sq ft samples, when I spoke to Debbie Nagy and told her the samples were not the quality we wanted she turned nasty and Brad then threatened to pull the job completely. I withheld payment waiting for some one to return my call and deal with my complaints no one ever called me back. This week I get a call from Purofirst looking for payment, I lay out the details for the owner Chris Huber, he only said he needed payment and that I had committed insurance fraud by cashing my insurance check and then very sarcastically told me he would come out next week to see the work they did and talk about and quot;how he could improve his companyand quot;. I declined to waste any more time on his company. I have paid them in full. I just want the whole thing behind me and I don't see why I should take time off work to help Purofirst improve anything. They did what every other insurance associated company does when disaster strikes you, they profit from your misery and make bucket loads of money . You do have a choice when hiring contractors, even with an insurance claim. I made sure I checked that with my insurance company. I also made sure I could cash the check even though it had my name and Purofirst on it. But Chris Huber made it pretty clear that I was the one trying to rob him. I give up with these types of people.
Description of Work: During the Atlanta freeze a pipe burst in our basement. We had 2" of standing water for 2 days and we had to replace the carpet and baseboards and paint the walls. Our insurance company recommended Purofirst so I had them come out for an estimate.

Response from Purofirst Of Gwinnett
First we want to stress how much we care about the work that we provide and we embrace all feedback whether it is positive or negative. As I am sure everyone will remember January and February of this year was a very rough time for everyone in the Atlanta area. Since we are primarily an insurance restoration company you can imagine how hectic it was for all of our mitigation crews and estimators. It was our goal to help as many people as possible while maintaining quality and customer service. We received the assignment for [removed member name] on Jan 9th to provide an estimate for the repairs and called the same day to schedule an appointment for an estimator to meet with him to inspect the damages to provide an estimate to [removed member name] and his insurance company. At that time the mitigation/drying was still ongoing and in order to provide the most accurate estimate the drying needs to be completed prior to estimating for repairs. Brad met with the homeowner on Jan. 21st and sent the estimate to his insurance company on Jan. 28th for their approval. The estimate was approved by his insurance company on Feb. 3rd and we started the repairs on Feb. 10th which was the following week. We agree that the time it took for us to schedule the appointment and send the estimate to his insurance company was longer than normal due to the widespread damage and the amount of people that we were responding to. As for the flooring issue, the majority of his carpet in the basement was valued by an independent labratory at $1.37 per square foot and 1 of the bedrooms carpet affected at $3.26. [removed member name] wanted to upgrade his overall carpet with out paying anything out of pocket. So [removed member name] agreed to average the carpet costs together which was approximately $2.00 a square foot. We sent carpet samples to the customer the week of Feb. 10th in the agreed price range for him to review. I spoke to [removed member name] when he complained about the quality of the samples and I tried to explain that their was much more carpet at the lower rate than at the higher rate and we were being fair at the 2.00 range and that he agreed to that as well. I Debbie Nagy, did offer to take more samples for him to look at since he was not happy with the original samples that we took him. He said that he would think everything over and get back to us. After trying to reach the [removed member name] for several weeks we were finally advised that he decided to have another company do his flooring. He did this without advising us in any way and he knew that we were trying to reach him. While we agree that the insured does have the right to choose any contractor that he wants he does not have the right to cash a 2 party check without the 2nd party endorsing the check. By [removed member name] cashing the 2 party check without our endorsement on it he is in fact being fraudulent. We regret that [removed member name] was dissatisfied with our company however we were only trying to collect the amount due us for the work completed by our company. It is our hope that we are not judged by[removed member name] review alone because all of us at Purofirst strive daily to provide the best customer service to all of customers along with quality workmanship.

From the very first time that Ken Miles from PuroFirst came to look at the damage on January 15, 2013, I had the impression that he didn't want this job. Maybe because it was so far from his office, and maybe because I live in the the City of Atlanta. I don't know, but he wasn't very responsive to my concern about getting the job done quickly, but done right, starting from the first visit. However, because we were both tied by contracts with USAA (my insurance company) to give our best effort to make it work, we spent 3 months negotiating over the details of the job before finally giving up on it. Meanwhile, my porch was a safety hazard, an eyesore, and my porch roof was supported by a temporary post. That's the main reason that I give the overall grade equal to the professionalism grade, even though no work was ever performed. Generally, though everything was done with honesty and possibly with good intentions, I was still made to suffer, which could have been avoided if these guys had been more professional. Keep in mind that a police interceptor going at an undetermined speed crashed into the front of my house, completely smashing one of the three 4and quot;x6and quot; posts that support my porch roof (causing it to sag by 18and quot; on one side) and ramming some of the porch joists into the front wall of my house. Also keep in mind that the damage was clearly not my fault, and that the only party on the hook to pay for this job was the City of Atlanta, not my insurance company. It was really surprising to me how much work I had to do on my own to find all the damage that was missed by PuroFirst, when they had everything to gain from doing a comprehensive damage report and a full repair. The key sticking points were: a) whether possible damage to the foundation of my house should be evaluated by a structural engineer. b) whether my porch roof should be replaced, and if so, how much should be covered under the claim vs. by me. c) whether or not a permit was required, and who should pay for the permit. After 2 months of passing emails, PuroFirst did agree to add the cost of getting the permit to the claim, though I was still agreeing to pay $1100 out of pocket on top of the claim for improvements to the roof structure. I was fairly happy at this point. Then, for the next month, PuroFirst proceeded to give regular updates on the permitting process, which was not going well. I spent 5-6 hours taking measurements and making drawings to help with the permitting process, but ultimately the result was that I would have to pay for an architect to help with the permit, and that cost could not be added to the claim. So, after a conversation with USAA, we decided that I could find my own people to do the job. In the end, after many additional hours of my time and an additional 1-month delay, I got what I wanted at a much lower price. The question left in my mind is: Why would a general repair contractor that operates in the City of Atlanta and has a business relationship with a very well-respected insurance company not be able to get a permit to do a general repair without an architect getting involved? I still don't know the answer, but I will do anything in my power to avoid allowing my house to get in the way of a police car with a sleeping driver and thus having to deal with this kind of headache again.
Description of Work: This was the general repair contractor chosen by my home insurance company, USAA, to repair my front porch and the front wall of my house after it was hit by a police car.

We contacted Purofirst because they were referred to us by our insurance agency to do the rebuild/repair after severe water damage caused by a roof leak. When I first contacted Purofirst, I explained everything I wanted done which included a second opinion on an insurance estimate to submit to our insurance company and an estimate for the additional work we wanted done, knowing that the additional work would not be covered or paid for by our insurance. I spoke with Debbie who was very helpful and knowledgeable and she walked me through the process and assured me there would be no problem with what we wanted to do. Ken came out to do the estimate the next day. I walked him through the repairs and the additional renovations that we wanted to do since the bathrooms were destroyed and being redone anyway and that this additional renovation was an absolute must have for us. Again, I was assured that it was definitely something they could do and there would be no problems with what we wanted to have done. Ken also was polite, professional and seemed very knowledgeable. We got the insurance portion of the estimate the next day, they submitted it to our insurance and it actually helped us resolve a dispute with the insurance company. That's where the good experience ended and the horrible one began. Ken had come out late in the week and told me that he wouldn't be able to get the estimate for the additional work to me until the next Wednesday. This was disappointing because our house doesn't have a single fully functional bathroom and we wanted to get started as soon as possible but I understand that I am not their only customer. In the meantime I did get a couple of additional estimates to do the work but Purofirst was at the top of our list to do the renovations. Wednesday came around and I was waiting for the estimate which never came. Thursday morning I called and was told Ken would give me a call back. Thursday afternoon, still no call back from Ken, so I called and was told again that Ken was busy so I asked to speak to Debbie again. I had some questions that I hoped she could answer until I could get the estimate. First the original insurance estimate included some things that I wanted to do myself, like painting and refinishing the hardwood floors. I was told that they wouldn't take the job at all if they couldn't do 100% of the work they estimated. I was floored. Seriously, you would turn down $22,000 worth of work because you couldn't do the other $2,000! I guess you don't need the business. But ok, I still really liked them and wanted to find out where they fell with the other estimate. Well, Friday morning I still hadn't heard from Ken. I called, he was busy. I was told he would give me a call back. I called Debbie again and expressed that I was pretty upset that I hadn't received a call back and that I hadn't gotten the estimate which was promised to me on Wednesday. I was waiting on it so I could make a final decision on a contractor! Well, Ken finally did call me back that afternoon and told me that he could get me the estimate for the additional work on Monday. Ok, fine, I really wanted to get started with the work, but I liked them and I wanted to see what they would charge to do the work. A long weekend over. Monday rolls around. No estimate. Monday afternoon I finally get a call from Ken stating again that he won't do the work unless he can do 100% of it (which I was actually going to be ok with, even though I thought it was stupid) and that he's not interested in doing the additional work that we wanted done which was a complete must for us and which I completely explained to both Debbie and Ken before they ever stepped foot in our house. (And which btw was an additional $20,000+/- worth of work) I guess they don't need any business. They certainly won't get mine. And thanks for wasting 2 weeks of my time during which the renovation could have been halfway done. My advice, don't waste your time with them either.
Description of Work: Estimate for repair of a bathroom, laundry room and hallway as well as an estimate for repair and renovation of 2 additional bathrooms which we wanted combined into one larger bathroom.

It was a pleasure working with Purofirst of Gwinnett. They asked me to select which shutters I wanted from Home Depot. They picked them up and installed them. The team completed the work on a very, very hot day in 4 hours and were done by 1:00 pm. They cleaned up everything. I asked to keep the new shutters paper wrapping for the product warranty and asked Purofirst of Gwinnett to provide the warranty to me. Builders Edge emailed me the warranty thought Purofirst of Gwinnett emailed me a warranty, too. I am so pleased by their work that I will include them in future estimates for home repairs and maintenance.
