On Saturday, 1/18/14, the "coldest weekend of the century" I woke to a burning smell and no heat. I had been covered for 8 years by American Home Shield for repair and replacement of my home's major systems so I called them with the problem. They dispatched Metro Air Services (CL #CR108431), 3758 Nina Court, Loganville, GA, 30052. The tech arrived about 3 PM. He told me that the blower fan had burned out and there was nothing he could do until Tuesday. I asked that he and I call American Home Shield together to discuss options. The unit was 25 years old - well beyond the useful life of the unit - and I had babied it for years. It did not make sense to me to replace the blower when a full furnace replacement made more sense. The tech said American Home Shield's maintenance department would not be open until Monday which was also why he couldn't do any work on my furnace before Tuesday. He would have to speak to them on Monday to find out what they would do. I paid his $75 service charge and he left. A couple of hours later I received a phone call from American Home Shield. They informed me that the technician called to say the blower seized not because it was 10 years beyond its useful life but because it "wasn't properly maintained" which also voids the American Home Shield warranty. I could pay Metro $650 to replace the blower. I declined. I later learned the prevailing cost for this service is $350 - $500. I chose to replace the entire furnace and called Coolray to do it. By that Monday I had heat. I called Metro on Monday to ask why the tech would give such a diagnosis to American Home Shield and lie to me when I suggested that we speak with them together. I also let them know that had the tech questioned the maintenance I had a complete set of records including a preventive service from just the month prior. Rather than looking into it, Metro got angry. I will never do business with Metro Air Services and will never again do business with American Home Shield.
