My computer was running so slowly that I considered buying a new one over the weekend. Mr. Alexander walked me through some diagnostic steps which took an hour. He concluded that I needed additional work and quoted me $160.00. Four and one-half hours later he finished. Clearly, the $160.00 didn't cover all the work he did and hours spent, but he stated that $160.00 was his quote and that he would honor that. My computer almost works like new. Mr. Alexander was extremely professtional and personable, and I would highly recommend him and shall.

The morning I called Alexander Technical Resources I needed emergency help to stave off total computer demise. I couldn't connect to the internet and Spencer was out on site with another customer, so I was very happy to learn that I could take my laptop in immediately for Donna to look at rather than wait for a house call later. She did a first round of diagnosing and cleaning up, and this seemed to have fixed the problem. Seemed there was no immediate evidence of a virus. Unlike the previous customer I am not computer savvy, but I am very interested in changing this. It was a delight to find that Donna is a technician who not only was happy to explain what she was doing and why, but was able to do this in plain English, as well as translate what she'd said back into computer language for me - in my experience an essential prerequisite for learning even minimal savviness. Once home the laptop initally seemed to function fine although the speed was still not brilliant. Over the next two days however it began it's old trick of slowing down, and being temperamental about connecting to the the internet. I spoke several times with Donna (this was now the weekend) and then to Spencer on the telephone. He helped sort out that if I used the DSL cable rather than trying to connect wirelessly I could get a connection. He then spent more than an hour and a half working remotely before coming to the conclusion that the underlying problem was with operating system incompatibilities. He suggested replacing the operating system rather than the laptop - and was upfront that this was for environmental reasons as much as for cost. I much appreciated his calm and non-judgemental way of presenting his opinion about this, and it quite settled my serious impulse to throw the offending laptop out and rush off to look for a shiny new one. Instead I carried it in to Spencer and the next morning had it back with Windows 7 installed and my data etc back in place. As for the price - I paid for only part of the the first day's consultation with Donna (I had a coupon) and then for the operating system and installation, with no charge for the significant time spent on the phone and working remotely. I also called back a week or two later and received help from Spencer at no charge for troubleshooting the set up of my printer and fax. In general I really enjoyed both Donna and Spencer's professional, competent yet low-key and friendly attitude. They remained calm and unhurried despite frustrating setbacks. It was a pleasure to work with them, and the job turned out extremely well. I will certainly be calling them for any future problems, and also if I want to raise my savviness level a notch by having something explained (yes, Spencer is open to this also) .
Description of Work: My 2008 laptop was slowing down to a snail's pace, then blanking out when I tried to connect to the internet, and rebooting with greater and greater difficulty. Donna and then Spencer worked with it patiently to diagnose the problem, and finally recommended installing a new operating system (Windows 7 instead of Vista), which totally fixed the problem. As Spencer predicted it is like having a new computer, one that is now much faster than it was when I bought it.

Spencer called me back within 1-hour and setup an appoitnment the next day. He logged in remotely and fixed the problem. I am cvery computer savvy and was able to view everything he did on screen. He clearly had the advanced technical knowledge and persistent to troubleshoot both the hardware and software solution sets.He fixed the problem in about 1 1/2 hours and I would not have been able to do it myself. Talked to several other local techs who were not able to fix the problem before I called Alexander.
Description of Work: I could not get windows 7 64-bit to recognize my laser printer after a hard disk crash and re-instal. So I could not print any of my documents or files after the re-install.

Don't tell customers u have experience to perform necessary job which was explained in detail to Donna & Spencer . Don't tell customers u will return phone calls & never do - for whatever reason. Dont offer any warranties of failure to do requested job. Just keeps $ and doesn't return several phone calls.
Description of Work: Cannot recall exact two days worked with this company (recovering from stroke due to this hacker & total disregArd of the urgency to repair computer - fear of losing everything including onine business which was destroyed by hacker. First session with very inexperienced employee Donna who suggested I do the exact same things I already did. A wasted $150.00. Several days later Spencer called & again failed to remove viruses purposely sent to my PC, cell phone, now printer and stop hacking of my web site. I followed his instructions to a tee. One call took 4 days to return by Donna, who said Spencer will call (this was 11-8). Did not call ever. They did not repair PC or attempt to stop hacking. Very much an amateur. Should not be listed under "national" services". On disability for other reasons. Don't have $300.00 to give away!

This member told us she was a home bound person and did not leave her house. We spent over 7 hours and 4 days of working with her on her computer and over the phone and through e-mail. She believes that she is being hacked by her previous computer support technician. We have a combined experience of over 30 years in residential and small business support. According to our reports (we keep detailed reports of each appointment) we did not find a single infection after multiple, deep searches. I (Spencer) personally attended to the member after my technician, Donna, came to me and told me she could not find anything wrong with the machine. The member was emphatic that her previous support technician was hacking her computer. I spent several hours searching for root kits, key loggers and back door infections ... all to no avail. We had her change her passwords and unhook her equipment to change the IP address. She upset her ISP so badly that they refused to talk to her anymore. She continually called the police and reported her previous tech for hacking her machine without any evidence. She claimed that she loaned her previous tech $2000 and had reported that he had stolen the money from her. She then claimed that she was able to get the money back in some ruthless and mysterious manner. We did everything in our extensive knowledge to find any hacking and we came up with nothing. When I told her that we could not do anything else for her, she continued to e-mail us and claim that he was also hacking her iPhone and website. I suggested that she work with her cell carrier and web host to address those issues. In summary, we used every ounce of our patience to work with the member. We were unable to back the claims of hacking with any evidence. We are sorry that the member is so upset with us after she claimed that she was "just happy to have someone helping her out". I suggested to the member several times that she may have a bad hard drive and that’s why she was missing data. The member was emphatic that the computer was only a couple years old and there was no way the drive was failing. Our last suggestion to her was to purchase a new computer. We have not recieved any phone calls or voicemails from the member since I last logged off her machine. We have recieved the following e-mails but they havent requested us to contact her. Here are the two e-mails: "Hi Donna & Spencer, It is 1:30AM, and 1st time I plugged in PC power cord since Friday night. Pressed the power button, nothing. Though screen light & speaker light turned on, I checked every plug to make sure secure. Surge protector on. Just dead Thus far, has destroyed 1. library containing 30+ years of "one-of-kind" (a rarity these days in this business) jewelry pieces. 2. library containing my best-friend-for-life, my mom's art work, the most beautiful water color paintings. Mom assed away 2 days b4 Mothers Day, May 6, 2011. My mom & I had a very loving, special relationship, not 2 mention I was born on her birthday (7-21 -- which turned out not to be lucky numbers 4 us). 3. he hacked my Facebook account 42 times. There is no way to contact FB, except to post on a wall & if I did so, he would c it. Deactivated acct which he tried to reactivate 3 x's to no avail. 4. He created another FB ACCT in my name. Filled "friends" with his friends. Reported to FB on Friday. The page is still there. 5. Hacked into AT&T cell phone. So far it has taken 2 hrs 2 get this far because each time I press a key different letters appear. I just keep hitting key until I get right letter/number. 6. Contacted another service. Please call landline as I would like ur professional opinion re actions I have taken. 7. I am seeking restraining order, although aware he could b at North Pole right now. Not 2 mention he would ignore it. 8. Hacked business web site. Deleted some "noticeable" merchandise, deleted customer options, and changed language to vulgarities. Also deleted inventory and sold inventories. It will take rest of my life to recreate everything. 9. Contacted domain service several times by email & phone. Owner & I have great relationship, but something odd is going on. My calls r returned by an interpreter 4 Chinese. Charles is Chinese but speaks very good English. Interpreter says no way he can hack web site. Charles may b on vacation (I hope) because he has not responded at all in 3 weeks. 10. Media player and majority of music library gone on Friday. I have NO IDEA how he was able to change songs and DELETE half of them from all 6 burned discs! 11. So far, he has cost me nearly $4,000! Now I have 2 buy new CPU & phone. 12. FBI works EXTREMELY slow & every person I spoke to could not have been more nasty than previous person, including Ft. Lauderdale PD. 13. He put a change of address to forward MY mail somewhere else! Joke of the year: although providing ID, post office will not tell me where my 2 credit card bills & bank statements, COD packages, expensive merchandise I paid for insurance & sent Priority Mail. Called post master daily. Apparently he does not work there. To reinstate my address of 30 yrs located in the highest property tax values in Broward County from literally the slums in Hollywood, I (the cripple) must drive 2 sorting facility, take a sworn statement, fill out a bunch of forms (cant hold a pen anymore), yet he did this damage on line!?! (note font change not made by me - hopefully u will receive this email. At very least please confirm receipt by calling land line 9(4-525-6995. Once FBI complete its investigation I will be filing civil lawsuit to recover damages. True he won't respond & a default judgment will b entered in my favor. I can add myself as (won't let me spell lienor (it took 4 x's) Member Alert Medical Bracelets Responding via iPhone" and "well last email took off all by itself - I will check 2 see if it went 2 u once I finish what I need from u that is required by Florida law: 1. Dates & Detailed statements as to what both Donna & Spencer saw on my PC. Hours spent to resolve problems & likelihood / statistics that ur efforts should have prevented further hacking 2 prove my allegations & assust FBI charges, which must be included t an exhibit when I file lawsuit. This document will prove his intent to harm & cause more damage As I told Donna on Tuesday, the last round with him included he created SEVERAL administrator accounts & I could not delete none. Every time I exited a window several more windows popped up. Unable 2 shutdown until unplugged. I took photos of these screens with separate camera Waited an hour, able 2 log on & did system restore to previous day when everything was fine. Now PC is "dead". My computer had been acting up so, in view of all the good ratings this company received on AL, I purchased an $80 coupon for a complete remote tune-up. Initially I made an appointment on the phone with Donna for later that day but due to unforseen circumstances she had to postpone the job a bit, giving me some options for rescheduling. Since we were approaching a weekend i chose to wait a few days when Spencer would be available, although I had no concern about Donna's ability to do the job. I was told Spencer would call me within a 30 minute time frame on the appointed day and he called about 8 minutes into the half hour. Once we got started, the tune-up took more than two hours; part of the time I was away from the computer and the rest I watched the tasks Spencer was performing. The tune-up is less than a day old but, so far, I'd say he did a great job. My computer is four years old and I'm computer illiterate, so I've had plenty of time to mess things up just trying to fix whatever went wrong but never really knowing what I was doing. Well, Spencer straightened it all out and the computer is working better than ever. He was congenial (as was Donna), let me ask questions, addressed my concerns and left me feeling certain that I would seek his company's services for any future computer problems. I thought I might owe more than the $80 coupon but I didn't. Never having been known as a great housekeeper, one of the best aspects of this for me was that it was done remotely so I didn't have to tidy up the house for Spencer's visit. Believe me, this is the way to go.

Donna called me promptly at the agreed upon time and immediately started trying to gain access to my computer via my DSL line. We had to try many different steps to get around all the virus and miscellaneous stuff that had frozen up my computer. Once she got my computer to access the internet she could then remotely go in and adjust settings and remove all the bad programs and settings that had somehow gotten in to my computer. Donna was patient, kind and professional while she worked her computer "magic".
Description of Work: I had a computer virus, trojan horse and fake security program that had rendered my computer useless and unable to access the internet. Donna from Alexander Technical Resources helped to get my computer to access the internet. Then, using her computer on the east coast she went in remotely and cleaned out the mess in my computer in California and gave me tips to keep security programs updated. MAGIC!! I am grateful and can now use my computer!!!

This time my appointment was scheduled with Donna. Based on the issues I brought to Donna's attention, she told me that it would take approx. 2 hrs. We had our telephone appt. on time, through remote access Donna was able to sweep through my computer and clean up all the little (or big) glitches that were beginning to become issues. I found Donna to be extremely knowledgeable. She seemed to be a whiz at identifying my problems, knowing how to tweek them...she is both professional and personable. The original time estimate I was given was right on -- actually, we may have gone over that time, but I was not charged any additional cost. Donna also provided suggestions as to how I can keep my computer in good running order and offered guidance in my adding more memory to my hard drive. I feel as relieved in having Donna's and Spencer's phone number there for my computer issues and I do about having my doctor's phone number as I would a doctor. I expect I will plan to schedule a physical appt. for my computer as I would for myself. Donna, as did Spencer last year, did a terriffic job and I would recommend them to anyone -- but especially to my best friend.

Because of my work schedule, I asked if we could start at 7 a.m. Central. Spencer called me promptly at 7:02, spent the 1st half hour fighting through several problems that prevented him initially from accessing my computer remotely, and then proceeded to methodically go through my computer to eliminate all of the problems, update all of my programs, improve security and bring my computer back to "like new" condition. I watched while working from home on my company laptop, then had a short call with Spencer after he was finished where he patiently detailed what he had found, what fixes he had implemented, helped me set up new, stronger passwords and explained the likely origin of the problem and how to avoid future occurrences.
Description of Work: My home computer had become infected with malware and viruses to the point that it would no longer access the internet or allow me to do normal navigation and searches on the web. After spending several frustrating hours attempting fixes on my own, and not wanting the inconvenience and lost time of taking it to a shop, I chose Alexander Technical Resources based on their ratings on Angie's list. My technician, Spencer, was extremely knowledgeable, patient, and thorough. He did a great job getting me back on line, eliminating all of the viruses, improving my firewall security, and counseling me on ways to avoid future problems. Problem: Older PC, apparently substantially virus-infected OS even though Norton AV program was run daily. Very slow, and at the point I enlisted ATR's services, the machine would lock up permanently after anywhere from 5 minutes to 10 minutes leaving no option (albeit a VERY bad one) other than hard rebooting by pressing the power button. I consulted Spencer Alexander. Spencer was professional, punctual, and respectful. Spencer needed to enlist a "plan B" for remotely accessing my machine since it was locked up so badly the traditional methods failed. The repair required approximately 5.5 hours, and I was able to leave home to work for a few hours while Spencer completed the repair which consisted of reconfiguring the start-up, running a thorough AV cleaning, and an assortment of other "techie" tasks for which I am too computer-illiterate to describe. End result: Spencer rounded the repair time to only 3 hours, and my old PC is operating very well. I've used remote repair on one other occasion (which actually may have contributed to the festering problems) and Spencer blew that fellow out of the water in terms of professionalism and apparent knowledge. From start to finish, an A+. top shelf experience. I'll definitely consult Spencer/ATR for all computer repair needs henceforth.

Two thumbs up for Donna !! She made this computer of mine purrrrrr . I had tried two other companies, first, but they never got back to me in a reasonable amount of time. Donna and Spencer were (unknowingly) both trying to contact me at the same time, within maybe five minutes of my initial call. Our au pair brought a four-year-old PC that she wanted to use during her year with us. It was clearly on its last legs - shutting down randomly, etc. - and everything was in spanish. We were skeptical that we could do much for her, but contacted Spencer about a clean up. Scheduling was easy. He did all the work remotely while we were doing other things. Alex assisted us remotely for about 2 hours & helped clean up a lot of 'junk' & confirmed that we also needed to upgrade our RAM. With the clean up and additional RAM, our iMac is running great. We would definately use him again in the future.

I called this company because my 5 year old computer was misbehaving. The woman I spoke with listened to my list of symptoms, asked some questions and told me that, based on what I was telling her, I may want to consider replacing the system rather than have them try to address all of the glitches. Their honesty about the best fix, rather than trying to push a lot of services that might not have worked was refeshing. Donna was immensely professional, efficient, client-friendly, and helpful. She knew exactly what to look for and how to verify , as she cleaned things up, whether certain files were useful to me or were needed by other programs. As she worked, she gave several hints for DIY maintenance that I can do for myself in the future. The whole process was effiecient, with not a wasted moment. It took about 1.5 hours. I used the Angie's List special deal coupon for the service. I would highly recommend this service to anyone. It felt very much like watching a genie cleaning out the accumulation of junk . How I wish that there were a similar remote service to efficently deal with the unneeded accumulations in my closets and in my attic! <grin!> The big aha's for me? That this could be done remotely. That it could be done inexpensively. That it was so obviuously over-due!We all pay attention to routine maintenance for our cars-- changing the oil, replacing wiper blades, etc.-- but it had not occurred to me that my computer would run so much more efficiently if I gave it similar maintenance. She connected to the computer through a remote-access program. As I watched and talked to her by phone, she took control of my computer and functioned exactly as she would have if she had been sitting in my office next to me. While Spencer was quick to respond to emails, there was some confusion as to time and date of appointment as well as services requested. Request for additional information about conflict between Replica and Windows during appointment on 8/02 was ignored. Ongoing conversation in background with another person during remote assistance led me to believe that he was training someone as he performed work on my computer. Follow-up communication advised Spencer that Java Script problem not resolved. Sent detailed letter (attachment in email) on 8/14. I deliberately did not ask for a response as I wanted to see how seriously Spencer would take my feedback, which was fairly comprehensive. As of 9/27, no response. Still have Java Script issues in emails and on websites.
Description of Work: Sent Spencer an email request for help on two issues: 1. Java script not fully functional on all websites 2. Use Seagate Replica software to back up PC. Seagate tech helped me with a problem that involved Microsoft Shadow Service. Msg that it was not working properly and Windows was unable to fix. Spencer provided me with a detailed explanation on Microsoft Shadow Services via email, but no explanation as to why it caused problems with Replica. At beginning of remote access appointment on 8/02, Spencer indicated that he thought that I had purchased an Angie's List coupon to clean up computer. This was not the case, and I informed him that I had not purchased such a coupon. He cleaned computer and installed the latest version of Java.

Description of Work: Spencer moved all the data from my Imac to my PC then he tuned up the pc so it would work properly. He also installed a lot of other stuff: Camera, GPS, and a lot of other things. I don't computer-ese however I can rate his service based on other companies that I have used in the past. He is the only one I have ever used more than once and I am also buying a laptop through him..He is friendly, professional and always on time. I was extremely satisfied with the service I received and the price was very reasonable compared to other estimates I received. Performing the computer cleanup on line is convenient compared to having to travel for service elsewhere. I would highly recommend this company for computer issues such as mine.
Description of Work: I have been having a problem with my laptop running extremely slow. I have used Angies List in the past and checked the website for computer repair. I decided on Alexander Technical Resources because of the company's rating and the coupon special for $80 which is a great price compared to Best Buy and Staples. Spencer promptly returned my call to set up a date and time to call. Donna called me at the time promised and I explained the problem that I was having with my computer. It took approximately 21/2 hours to complete the work and my computer start up is now faster. Donna was very polite and professional.

Overall the experience was excellent. This project was handled via the internet. Spencer was on time. He evaluated the situation confirmed the need to re-position the drives and started in right away. As we went through the process he explained each step and provided suggestions on how we could improve the server operation. The service was efficient and all objectives met. To be able to do this online was awesome.
Description of Work: Realigned the partition in the server. The percentage of space on the C and D drives were out of balance.

Donna took my call and immediately went to work on the problem. One hour later, my computer was working, and I got some good advice as well. Donna was extremely professional and explained things clearly. I will definitely use this company again in the future--and will probably have them clean up my computer. Description of Work: My lap computer stopped connecting to the internet. I work from home, so any days I can't use it can mean money lost. I tried a couple of local companies and no one called back. I also tried Geek Squad, and they couldn't help me until Saturday--4 days from now! So I tried ATS based on the excellent reviews here and could not be happier.

Donna not only cleaned up my computer, she detected a physical memory problem and gave me specific approaches I could try to fix it or get it fixed. She not only explained everything she was doing in plain English, but she answered all my questions about computer stuff unrelated to what she was doing, including how to do a proper back-up to a hard-drive (which I'd been doing incorrectly for 5 years). Donna is both knowledgeable and delightful; I learned a lot, got more than my money's worth, and the experience was unusual because it was so positive.

Excellent. I was leery about the effectiveness of remote servicing but an now a convert. Appointment scheduling was easy, as was login for remote access. Spencer and staff are knowledgeable, diligent in their work and responsive to concerns. I will definitely consider for future use and do recommend to friends and family. So much better and faster than a big box store - and a great value to boot.
Description of Work: Computer was running super slow (aprox 5-7 min to boot up). Spencer and team performed diagnostics, removed suspicious files and restored start up speed to like new condition. All work performed remotely.

Quick response to initial email. Spencer called at the time agreed upon and spent about 5 hours trying to isolate and remove viruses from the Administrator side of my windows XP OS. Had to run the same cleaning software several different times. At that time we could not figure out why, but as he figured out on the 2nd service day the viruses were being passed from one XP login to the other. He became quite frustrated with the time involved and the process, mentioned he missed another appointment and that his phone was going crazy the whole time. My DSL connection seemed to make things even harder for him. Because of this I had to stay on the phone with him while much of the work was done. After 5 hours he thought he had it, and I think was so tired of it at that point that he just quick told me what programs to run, took my card info and moved on. I was pretty exhausted myself. He told me at $60 an hour for 5 hours he felt that was a little high so discounted to $200. 2 days later I got on the computer and had some of the exact same problems I started out with, namely the redirect to ad pages when on line. In addition there were icons on my desk top that I did not put there and were not sure what they were. I emailed him and he asked me to call him the next day. He spent about 90 minutes cleaning things up, and realized he had to get the viruses out of the "limited" login on my windows XP as well as he didn't do this previously. I found out the first time he tried was after 18 straight days of work, so it explained his shortness and frustrated service (though still professional). On this day he was much more relaxed and I think if he had not been so tired that first time could have knocked out the problem in half the time, but that's just a guess on my part. In the end he got me back to work working order. Well worth the $200.
Description of Work: Remote removal of multiple virus and malware bad enough that we were afraid to even connect to the internet.

The appointment with Spencer was initially scheduled for.8.27.11, however, I had to cancel and reschedule for the following week. Spencer connected a wireless printer to my laptop. He was very efficient, pleasant and reasonabe. It took about 20 minutes or less. I will definitely use him whenever I have a computer or printer problem in the future.
