Vacuum Cleaners
It went very well. I brought in my Miele vacuum in for repairs. I already knew it would probably be costly to repair. I met with the owner, Doug, who validated what I already knew. He offered me a trade value for my old vacuum and I purchased a new one. I already knew which vacuum I wanted, and though it was on the high end, he didn't try to push the sale. He unpacked all of the components, loaded it in my vehicle and offered a free cleaning in a year. I will definitely recommend this business to my friends.

I have a stunning antique chandelier that I took with me when I moved from my previous home. It needed some minor electrical work so I took it to Doug's Vacuum Center. I was absolutely appalled by the service I recieved. Not only were they incredibly rude and condescending, but they had the audacity to take three and a half weeks to split a single wire and "splice" it with electrical tape. And for the price I had to pay, electrical tape is completely unacceptable. Any novice can put a wire together with tape. I was expecting a professional grade job from what I assumed were professionals. Then, when my chandelier was returned to me, they had put a different chain on it. Wanting to keep the antique integrity of my fixture, I demanded my old chain back. They then claimed that I never brought the piece in with a chain and in the end, I left with no chain at all. The indignity, incompetence and essentially theft that I have endured is an outrage. I will under no circumstance ever patronize this establishment and would intensely urge anyone considering, to take their business elsewhere as well. The staff at Doug's Vacuum Center are not only disrespectful and have no value for their customers, but they are undeniably incompetent at what they do.

Vacuum Cleaners
Extremely friendly and courteous. Both the owner and employees spoke to us. I told them we found them on Angie's list. They informed us what the standard servicing fee to look over and clean out both vacuums. They called us the very next day to say the vacuums were ready. We went down the next day to pick them up. Both vacuums were cleaned and serviced and a part replaced that was broken. I even bought some grout cleaner while I was there. They have been in Tallahassee 50 years! They are tucked away on a side street ( Bronough ) off Monroe Street downtown. Doug's also fixes and sells lamps! We travelled 35 miles to get there! They are worth the trip! They are a hidden little gem! I'm so glad we went there because we were considering buying a new vacuum cleaner! They are super people to deal with and don't run you around! Excellent service and price all the way around! Go there! Our vacuums work perfectly now! : )

I purchased a Hayden central vacuum system from Doug's Vacuum in 1999 for around $550. It came with a ten year warranty. I installed the unit, pipes and fittings. It worked great for about a year but then began cutting off intermittently. Doug suggested I purchase a new filter, which I did, but of course that did not solve the problem. He told me to bring the unit in and he would check it out. (It was about this time that Doug began taking an exasperated tone with me, which would be the case during the remainder of our dealings.) He said that the vacuum ran fine for him and he couldn't find anything wrong, so I picked it up. Since it continued to cut off intermittently, he came out to the house to look the situation over. He thought a power surge may have damaged the electronic components on the control board, in which case warranty coverage would not apply. I told him the surge control device on my main electric panel would prevent that kind of damage and the vacuum system was the only electrical device in my home not working correctly. He took the unit back to the shop and ordered a new control board. This took several weeks to accomplish, but it fixed the problem. When the unit was in it's ninth year of service, the motor began to fail. Unbeknownst to me, the plastic key holding the filter in place had snapped and the filter fell out of position, allowing dust and dirt to destroy the motor. Doug felt this was my fault and wouldn't replace the motor under warranty coverage. I had to pay $317 for him to replace the motor. Instead of replacing it with an identical motor, he installed one from another manufacturer. Six weeks later the vacuum was not working again and when I took the unit in he discovered the control board was "burnt up." He replaced the control board again, using one from yet another competing brand. A year later the unit failed to come on at all, but by this time the warranty had expired. I took the control board out and connected the power supply cord directly to the motor. The vacuum works now but the switch on the wand handle no longer works to turn the vacuum on and off. I have to go to the garage to plug it in when I want to use it. I don't know how they do things in the vacuum industry, but I question the wisdom of using parts from other manufacturers when providing warranty service.

I had put off replacing the hose and fixing a few other things on my Dyson Animal. I kept putting it off because I'd have to send the vacuum away or the parts would be too expensive. I saw an ad indicating Doug's vacuum repairs worked on Dyson. It took about a week but most of that time was spent waiting for the parts. The vacuum works great now! They were also able to repair a part I thought would have to be repaired.
