Description of Work: My central A/C unit stopped working. It was a Thursday evening. I called my regular provider. I declined service that evening because of high night time rates. On Friday morning, my regular guys said they could get me in on Monday. As the house began heating up, I decided I couldn't wait until Monday. I logged into Angiesllist.com and found highly rated Shaw Mechanical Services. I called them. Within 3 hours they were at my door. The technician evaluated the situation, told me the problem was within an electrical switch in the compressor. He gave me the price it would be to replace it. He had the part on his truck. Within an hour, the house was cooling down leaving me a happy camper. The tech was courteous, professional and thorough. Did a great job. I would definitely use this company again.

Description of Work: Did a great job. I learned from them that I should eventually consider a new system. I decided to get competitive bids. Shaw provide me a bid and unfortunately, Shaw did not make the cut for replacing my system. Although, I think they are quality HVAC company and wish them the best.

 + -1 moreThe technician made some recommendations and we had the repairs made. They were willing to work with us to allow us to do some ot the things ourselves to save money. It turned out that something in the repair went awry. I called back and they were on it immediately, coming out again to fully repair everything and making double sure everything was working correctly. There was no further charge for the second visit although the technician spend a lot of time with us. This is a company that clearly stands behind its services. We will use them again.
Description of Work: The system had stopped operating. It turned out to be due to a faulty overflow valve and clogged drainline. The valve needed to be replaced and the drain cleared. Additionally, the system was checked for further leaks and blockages.

I really appreciated him pointing out the areas where I could make some easy adjustments to improve the efficiency of the system and save some electric costs. I wll certainly call them back when it is time for winterizing my system.
Description of Work: I purchased a Big Deal for the HVAC cleaning and spring tune-up for $59. I called for an appointment and it was made for only 2 days after I called. Darryl Evans showed up exactly on time and got right to work. He cleaned and added coolant to the compressor unit outside and inspected the air handling unit inside. We have had the units serviced numerous times over our 25 years in this house. The compressor has been replaced once and the air handler inspected regularly. After a brief inspection, Darryl pointed out several deficiencies that I could correct to improve the efficiency of the unit. No previous Technician had ever pointed out these obvious areas.

 + -1 moreDaryl Evan, our technician, arrived on time with proper identification. He did a complete inspectiion of our Lennox gas furnace and air conditioner. He inspected the furnace, the outside air conditioning unit, and the thermostat. He gave us a complete report that showed all the various items that were checked. Fortunately, everything is working correctly and the system did not require any repairs. Being new to Florida, we wanted to make sure the air conditioner was working properly prior to the hot summer months ahead. Daryl was very conscientious and pleasant. He answered all our questions. We also asked for and he gave us a contract for annual maintenance. We will certainly consider using Shaw Mechanical Services for their services in the future.
Description of Work: We took advantage of the air conditioning checkup that was offered by Shaw Mechanical Services through Angie's List. The technician did a thorough tune-up and safety check-up on our system.

 + -1 moreOverall all install went just fine. Could not rate an A for the complete jobs for several reasons. First, the install took 2 trips because they did not have all the parts on the truck. Had to come back the following week to finish the install and replace the inside vent that holds the A/C filter. Second, the office staff was very nice but did not answer my phone calls and emails in a timely manner.
Description of Work: Cheapest of 3 bids for a 3 ton Carrier AC / Gas Furnance. Beat Kalos Services by $300 and Ferran Services by over $1,000.

 + -1 moreWe bought the Spring tune up special for our A/C. What a bargain! We have a 5 ton, dual-speed system with zoning, a pump to get the condensate out of the attic and a large specialty filter. (So obviously, not a simple project.) The lady in the office was friendly, took the reservation and followed up with me on the size of the filter needed. The technician was very efficient, friendly and knowledgeable. He did a wonderful job and made certain he cleaned up before leaving. The only mishap was that the filter he brought was not the correct one, but he came back within a few hours with the correct sized filter and installed it. We are all set now for the summer and I will be using them again in the autumn for our tune-up then!

Description of Work: I purchased the Big Deal for an AC checkup. It was definitely money well spent. The technician, Darryl, went well beyond what any other AC tech had ever done in the 30+ years I have owned a house with an AC unit. He was meticulous in checking coils and drains. He showed me where there were potential problems- but was careful to make sure that I realized that we were not looking at immediate concerns. He answered questions and explained his answers to a person who is highly non-mechanical! When he left, I was sure that my AC system had been cared for by someone who knew what he was doing. I definitely have found the company that will service my AC unit in the future.

 + -1 moreI contacted Shaw Mechanical and told them I had purchased a coupon for a tune up. The woman answering the phone was very professional and friendly. I told her that my AC was not blowing out cold air. She explained the turn up was for AC's that were working properly but she would send a technician to see what the problem was. The technician arrived as scheduled (even just a tad bit early). He checked my AC and said it was the capacitor. He also said the connector didn't look too good either and offered to apply the amount that I prepaid ($59.00) towards the part. Since I don't know when the last tune up was, I decided to have both done; a tune up and replace the part. The technician was very polite and professional.
Description of Work: The repair man replaced a capacitor (something like that) and did a tune up.

They were reliable and worked well with the firm that removed our old insulation and installed new insulation. While Shaw may not provide the most competitive bid, our experience was that they are skilled, competent and do what they say they are going to do. We recommend them to others without reservation.
Description of Work: Shaw Mechanical Services was recommended to us by a family member who is a commercial general contractor. We sought two bids and decided to use Shaw.
