After initial contact with Gary DeVeney, owner of Distinctive Renovations, LLC, we found him to be somewhat accomodating and liked his ideas regarding the remodeling on Master Bathroom. After several meetings and many phone calls, finally got architectural plans late June, 2008. I gave Mr. DeVeney the website of the company that I planned to use for my two vanities. I also gave him a copy of the invoice which indicated which vanities I would have him installed. The vanities were ordered in May, 2008 and received and stored in my garage July, 2008. I informed Mr. DeVeney that not only would the plans to these vanities be available to him 3 months prior to plumbing and electrical modifications, but templates of the vanity tops would be furnished (at a cost to us of $175). I spent 6 weeks viewing tile websites visiting tile retail stores for costs and ideas, I designed the 23 walls that were to be built in the master bedroom using the tile we planned to buy in October for a promised November installation. I gave these designs to Mr. DeVeney in August, 2008 prior to receiving an estimate dated August 15, 2008. The last week of August was spent discussing his proposal and giving him a $10,000 deposit to start the project on September 1, 2008 along with a key to our home. Mr. DeVeney also introduced me to the plumbing contractor who knew the Kohler DTV system and Mr. Tony Gomez, the tile subcontractor. I also gave Mr. Gomez and packet that included my tile designs and ideas, and he offered suggestions and his ideas as to how the bathroom should be tiled. I liked his ideas and suggestions, which included the tiling of the walls to the ceilings. After coming home on the 12th of September, the nightmare began. There were several days in a row that nothing was done to the project. After several phone calls and emails, many with no replies, activity was sparse. We began to feel that we were not high on his priority list. He would finally respond to my complaints with cheerful news that by the end of the week we would have progress. We set down with a calendar and he assured me that the tile job, which would become custom and therefore cost more, would start the beginning of November, 2008. It didn't start until the 15th of December. We, along with my neighbors, endured six weeks (which including the Christmas holidays) of constant sawing of tile. While the noise and inconvenience of the custom tile project, was not a direct fault of Mr. DeVeney, indirectly the delay of six weeks was his fault and by having to tile during the holidays was a very stressful time for both my husband and me, but also to my neighbors. This report is limited, not due to additional errors and misconduct of Mr. Deveney, but Angie's List. I discovered two days prior to my firing of Mr. DeVeney that the key to our home was available to the world by him placing this key in an obvious place - the permit box.
