Champion Roofing replaced the roof on our house a couple of months before we purchased it and included a long-term warranty. Our home inspector noticed that water was pooling on part of the roof, and the warranty should cover improper installation leading to water retention. Shortly after completing the sale, we reached out to Champion to register the warranty. Tina confirmed that this would be no problem, and she would start working on the paperwork. We mentioned the pooling water, and she told us that her boss (Chris, the owner) was out of town. He would get back to us upon his return. A week later, we had heard nothing about either the water or the warranty. This began two months of getting the run around. We would call, be told that the warranty was in process and Chris would reach out shortly, and then nothing would happen. This week, a branch fell on our roof, puncturing it in two places. Obviously, the warranty doesn’t cover that, but this finally prompted Chris to visit our home. I suppose he saw an opportunity to get paid again. He quoted a price for the puncture repair, and we asked him about the pooling water. His curt and rather rude response was, “That’s normal. It’s a flat roof. What do you expect?” I pointed at the even flatter carport roof that the same team installed right next to the pooling water and said, “That roof is also flat, but it doesn’t hold water.” I told Chris that his response was not acceptable. He then described what he thought he could do, but said, “It won’t fix the problem.” He then sent us a proposal costing an additional $500, knowing that by his own admission it would probably be insufficient. We told that a properly installed roof shouldn’t retain pools of standing water for more than 48 hours and that the installation company should fix such deficiencies in their work when they arise. You can clearly see a dip between the edge and the center of that section of roof. Contrary to Chris’s claim, it isn’t a flat roof. Due to his bad installation, it is a dipping roof. Additionally, when installing the carport roof, the crew did not take care to align their nails to the trusses, so there are long roofing nails poking through the underside of the ceiling in multiple locations. It’s quite ugly. To resolve the punctures made by the fallen branch, we hired a different company that came to fix the damage within a few hours, and they charged us less than half of what Chris quoted us. Clearly, the roof was not installed properly, and we are quite disappointed that Champion refuses to address their mistakes. Other homeowners should beware especially if your home doesn’t have a steep roof, if you care about what the finished product looks like, or if you value prompt and courteous customer service.

Had our entire roof done by this company and called a week later because of new water spots on our ceiling. The guy that did the roof came out and said he didn't know what it was but it wasn't a leak- his work wasn't faulty he insisted. After a year of other people coming out- electricians, plumbers, pest people- they all said it was the roof. I called Champion back in July of this year and asked them to come out because the leaking was getting worse and everyone was telling me it was the roof. After being threatened with a $185 "travel fee" if it wasn't the roof, a man named James came out, looked at the roof and said it was their fault- one of the nail guns they were using was faulty and the pressure was too high and shooting the nail through the shingle rather than making it flush. Well, a month and a half later, our ceiling is cracking and getting worse and worse. Have been told over a half dozen times that a man named Travis will be there on such a day to fix it and he's a no show. Sometimes he wasn't notified til the day of that he was supposed to come and had other plans, other times his truck brakes failed and he was at the shop. Neither James nor the Owner Chris will return our calls. This company and their workmanship warranty is AN ABSOLUTE JOKE! We have no choice but to move onto filing a complaint with The BBB and having our attorney reach out to them. Every day these people blow us off, the damages they will be forced to pay increase: the wood under the roof is likely rotting and and the insulation in the attic is ruined. So frustrated with the absolutely terrible service and workmanship.
Description of Work: Put a new roof on a 3,100 sq ft home that started leaking a week after the install. Will not show up to fix it.

Have made numerous phone calls, beginning in June, to have roof leak repaired. There has not been any follow-up by phone or in person. Receptionist always polite and understanding about our issues, but says all she can do is issue yet another work order. And she acknowledges she has issued numerous work orders. Yet as of today, still no response from anyone else in the company. This was once an excellent, responsive company but not any more. Would never use this company to replace our roof as there is no service after the sale now.

Its now June and after several phone calls and assurances they would be out I have given up and will move to another company. I have never received a return call from the company nor has anyone come by my home as promised. This type of treatment of customers is completely unsatisfactory and if you were thinking of roofing work keep my tale in mind. Do you really want to deal with a company that blows you off when you need them.?
Description of Work: The company initially installed my roof nine years ago. Original install was good. We now have a leak around the chimney. The company came out and inspected and said the flashing was bad and they would replace it and inspect for any other rot.

This past summer some of the shingles stared sliding off the roof and after several calls Champion came out and replaced them but never mentioned there was a problem ( Mr Wiedenhoeft thought that we should be grateful since they didn't charge us). We finally became aware of the problem with the roof when one of the owner's son saw the dark stains on the roof and wavy shingles and went up into the attic and saw all the damage.
Description of Work: We are a group of 6 town homes. Champion did a tear off and new roof in 2005. They placed the trash container on the water main and broke it, placed the ladders against the gutters and bent them and took almost a year to come back and fix them. The biggest problem is that now 8 years later the roof needs to be replaced. They apparently used the wrong type of flashing around the edges of the roof (Mansard Roof) causing the shingles above it to push up creating a valley that held water which caused the nails to rust and water to seep under the roof rotting out the plywood under the shingles. I called the city to find out about the permit and they told me that Champion Roofing only pulled one permit in 2005 and it wasn't ours. We are now in the process of filing a complaint with the City, and also The State Attorney's Ofc,. which has a state statute regarding contractors taking advantage of the elderly. I repeatedly called Mr. Christopher Wiedenhoeft about this but he didn't return my calls until I said I was going to file a complaint with the City. He then called me back but said the roof was only warranteed for 5 years so there was nothing else he could do. Unfortunately we never thought to have the roof inspected before the warranty expired.

Champion Roofing installed the new shingles, but left a mess and never returned to install the gutters. The roofers did damage to the siding on the home, damaged the garage door and left spilled roofing tar on the driveway and on the street in front of the house.Following the roof installation I spoke to the owner twice to get the job finished. Our last conversation ended with him telling me that he would have someone out that afternoon or the next day to assess what needed to be done and clean up their mess.6 months later I still have no gutters and still have roofing tar stains in my driveway and street. DO NOT HIRE CHAMPION ROOFING SERVICES. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL COMPANY. DISHONEST OWNER.

They seemed to do a fine job with the actual roofing. The quality of their work seemed to be good. I was not happy with their level of responsiveness. When I called they would frequently tell me that the shingles would be delivered on a particular day and then they would not be delivered. They would not call me to tell me that they were not going to be delivered or why and it happened three or four times. I know that roofing is affected by weather but it really bothers me when a person and or a company tells me something is going to happen and it doesn’t and they don’t bother to tell me why. The price seemed reasonable in comparison to the other estimates. I think it was comparable to other companies. I would probably use them again in the future if necessary.

I called CHAMPION ROOFING SERVICES INC to ask for an estimate to replace my roof after a recent hailstorm. Two salesmen came to my house and walked around it once. They did not look at the roof other than from the ground. The estimate was a little high as compared to others I had received. I was told that there were three roofs on the house. I have lived in this house since the day it was built, and there are not three roofs on the house. Their contract had several possible "add ons" that were not included in the estimate, such as replacement of rotten plywood cost per sheet. I told them that I would look over the contract and let them know something. I received a follow-up phone call that week, and I told them I had yet to make a decision. Approximately, three weeks later a salesman called and asked me about the roof. I told them that I had decided to go with another company. The salesman became very defensive and even mentioned "lawyer" in the conversation. Do read the contract before you sign it. Don't sign the contract on day one, think about it. Do know as much as possible about the history of your house. Ask your neighbors, if you have not lived there long. Do expect the contractor to get on your roof and inspect it for damage, rot, leakage, etc. Do get more than one estimate for comparison. Do look the company up on Angie's list. Do ask your neighbors if they have had any experience with the company.
Description of Work: I called CHAMPION ROOFING SERVICES INC to ask for an estimate to replace my roof after a recent hailstorm. The response time of the two salesmen that came to my house was very good. They provided me with an estimate for replacing the roof and a copy of the contract. Follow-up phone calls were received.

I had a card for the company president and was able to contact him. He saw the leak we had and still required some prodding to come out and at least put on a tarp. After that, the roofing went quickly. However the guttering, window replacement and ceiling repairs have not been done. I think we were forgotten in the quantity of roof damages in the area. I am supposed to get this gutters done this week. The new roof looks terrific.
Description of Work: replaced roof from hail damage. The service was done with some prodding because we had a significant leak in the roof. When the work was done, it was done quickly and professionally. There is still gutters to replace and repair of the leaking ceiling. They sent a man to do the gutters but he had the wrong color paint and said he would return. We heard nothing for about a month. I finally called and man came out the next day and evaluated the work that was remaining. I am still waiting on the guttering and indoor work to be done. The estimate was for this week to start.

Description of Work: Champion Roofing came out to the house to conduct a assessment of the recent damage from the hail storm. I could tell these guys knew what they were talking about and were very professional. They did a complete walkaround of the entire house talking and indicating damage (that I hadn't notice) from the fence to the mailbox. They have some great selling points, like warranty for labor and materials. The one concern and a huge red flag (for me) was that they wanted me to sign a contract with them. The contract basically stated that, Champion Roofing would show up when my insurance adjustor did the assessment on my home, and obligated you to have them conduct ALL repairs to the home. I thought this was a little sleezy and thus did not end up using them. If it had not been for the contract, I would have probably have used them. I just did not fill comforable with signing over my rights as a homeowner to a construction company. If you are comfortable with signing a contract I would definately recommend these guys. The other issue I did not like was that they refused to conduct there own estimate on the damages on the home. They insisted on using the insurance adjustors report. In insurance claims this is common practice for companies to try to get the homeowner to disclose this information and unfortunately most people (unknowingly) will show the insurance documents to them, thus giving you a complete disadvantage when negotiating, but again if you feel comfortable with this, this is the company for you.

The roof looks good. Follow-up as mentioned needs to be improved. I'm glad a roof replacement only occurs a couple of times in a lifetime.
Description of Work: Replaced roof in the summer of 2010. After the job was completed they were to come back and secure skylights with longer screws. Later an inspector found the loose skylights. These have been repaired. We had to have the kitchen ceiling painted due to leak damage. There were areas I asked them to check(rotted boards). The boards they said were good are rotted and I will need to repair. Recently in the attic, I noticed sunlight coming in around one of the skylights. Also a lot of old roofing material left in the attic. Clean-up of old roofing nails was poor in the yard and surrounding areas. I have cleaned this up myself. There response to problems needs improvement. Poor return of calls and e-mails.. Also the credit card only applies to a portion of the invoice.

The job went very well. Champion did exactly what we were told they would do and did it in a prompt, efficient manner. The work was excellent and we were very pleased. The only problem that we had was that they did not explain all of the warrantees in detail to us. That would be the small reason for a lower grade. But besides that the detail and things like that were just fine. We would recommend them to other people. We explained to them our concern about the warrantee so now that they know I am sure they take it into consideration.
