Description of Work: Replaced our 17 year old a/c and air handler. There were a few problems, but they resolved them all. I would highly recommend them!!

Description of Work: My mother has used Schmitt for her heating/AC for MANY years. Her house is 20 years old and they installed a new heating/AC system 9 years ago. I was not helping her with her house then, but she is elderly now and requires my oversight. I have recently been paying her bills and since February I had been wondering why her electric bill was so high. I could not put my finger on it. She has always purchased a yearly maintenance agreement from Schmitt to the tune of over 150.00 a year, closer to 200.00, for 2 service calls per year. So Schmitt has always serviced her AC system. This year I purchased only one svc call. On Thursday 8/21/14 her AC stopped working. I called Schmitt to use the pre-purchased service call. Fred came out within a few hours and told us the compressor was bad, and that it would cost 2500.00 to buy a new one for this AC system, it was obsolete and not worth it. He said we needed a whole new system, gave us an estimate for $3695, and charged us $99.25 for the "hard start" to temporarily get her AC going, over and above the free svc call, but said her compressor would not work much longer. I called an AC professional of my own that I had previously used on my own home, and he said they would come and give a second opinion the following day. When they came out, they took the system outside apart abit, and with me watching, we discovered that the fan was installed upside down, blowing the air back down into the unit instead of out of it. Lo and behold, before Thursday, the last time she had service performed by Schmitt was in February!! And that is about when the electric bills went up. The AC system was put back together incorrectly. That is a big mistake, causing a great deal of trouble for the system. She was lucky it did not seize the system completely and render it useless. The other company was able to replace the fan, because it had become bent, and her system is working properly again, for about 1/6th the cost of the price Schmitt gave us for the new unit. I am quite upset however, that the man that came out on Thursday would not have seen, or told us about the upside down fan, and instead tried to sell us a whole new system. Luckily I know to get more than one opinion.

Description of Work: I've used Scmitt for several years and they are always professional and prompt. This service was due to a thermostat problem. Date is approximate.

Description of Work: Arrived on time on a Sunday and replaced a/c compacitor. This is the third one replaced in three years on a 3 ton Lenox a/c. Good service. Price a little high, but it is the same price I paid before.
