We have maintained a service contract with them over the past 42 years, and have been happy.
Unless Emergency, some calls have to wait four or five days to schedule.
An appointment takes almost 4 days to get, if you are lucky! Also, their model is to send out the newest, greenest person the first time. This often results in multiple calls and visits to get something fixed. If you get paid for your time at work then this can add up as you have to waste an entire morning or afternoon (or several if you have something more complicated than changing a light bulb).
Do not be afraid to escalate to the service manager. That is the only way you will get things taken care of. Sad they can stay in business with this model. They ARE what drove me to Angies List and why I like it so much!!!
We had to get someone else in and the problem was with the thermostat ,which was changed and now the AC is functioning.
I wrote a complaint and did recive a call back and the person who called back was polite and apologised and stated a supervisor would call me .There was no follow through from a supervisor. she did state that she will get someone to come in the next day if we cannot get it fixed ourselves. (So what am I paying them for?)
what a waste after waiting the entire day
Complained to the company and was told a supervisor would call but there was no follow through. I needed someone to look at an electical switch and I was told they would send an electrician and not the first guy who caame for the AC, but after another day of waiting the same guy turnrd up. He did not have the parts and said he would write a report .Changed one switch but did not cayry a white switch so now I hav a cream switch which stands out.He would not look at the second switch as he did not have it on him. After this call there was no response to my emails. You cannot contact them by phone as the numbers listed are incorrect
For some mysterious reason, after contacting city hall on our own, we found out the city had closed out our permit without a final inspection. No one from the company notified us of that despite the fact that they rescheduled a return visit from the city hall inspector. That date resulted in a no show from the city which required more demands from the company. Only until we requested to have the city inspection reopened did we get another failure for the same reason. Finally, after a total of three violations from inspectors, it has finally passed.
The supervisor and general manager could use some lessons from the technicians that are assigned to repair units. They are professional, courteous, and usually arrive within the block of time specified. If it weren't for the technicians, the overall rating for this company would be an F.
My landlord has had a contract with Total Appliances and Air Conditioning since 1973. For forty years, he's paid about two hundred dollars to maintain a service contract that states explicitly that it will repair and replace broken appliances and air conditioning parts.
Yet, Total is refusing to honor their agreement to replace to parts in the air conditioning that no longer work properly. Specifically, they want to charge $450 to replace two hoses and two ball valves despite the fact that the contract states they are responsible to replace any broken parts.
They engage in false advertising and then refuse to return your phone calls. I've called them 10 times in the past year over the same A/C problem; and they kept coming out and putting a bandaid on the problem rather than fixing it altogether. (I also work so it's difficult to be home at the limited times they are available to make service calls.)
Now it's come to a point where the A/C has stopped working altogether. They could care less. There's no point in having a contract with this company. They won't honor their agreement and they won't have the courtesy to return your calls after promising to take care of the problem.
Don't use them. They're a nightmare to deal with.
While they are a good company, I've had an unsatisfying experience with them. If I knew there was a better company out there I would change. It took almost a week for them to change the water heater, there was a weekend in the middle and a holiday, plus they needed permits. I didn't have any hot water. The last time it was a problem with the AC and they took a week again. They are usually very slowly. They pride themselves in not laying off their workers so when there is a busy season they tend to neglect the service. They just don't have enough people to come quickly. These apartments aren't designed to not have AC so when it fails you can cook inside. I had to pay for the permit for the water heater, I don't understand why I need one but that's a whole other story. When they finally show up they do a good job. There is a part of my dishwasher that keeps failing and it takes 2 months to order it and when they finally fix it it works once then shuts off again. It must be a problem with the apartment.
"Thank you for your review, it is very important to us. We serve over 40,000 contracts in South Florida and sometimes we make mistakes. One of Total's main goals is to resolve all problems as quickly as possible and to treat everyone fairly."
"WE WOULD LIKE TO RESOLVE THIS CUSTOMER'S COMPLAINT BUT REQUIRE MORE INFORMATION SO IF SHE WOULD LIKE HER AIR CONDITIONING PROBLEM RESOLVED PLEASE HAVE HER CONTACT OUR OFFICE AND SPEAK WITH ALICIA OUR SERVICE MANAGER."
"WE ARE UNABLE TO GET REPAIR PARTS FOR THIS CUSTOMERS ICE MAKER REQUIRING HER TO PURCHASE A NEW ONE. HER PRESENT SERVICE CONTRACT DOES NOT HAVE ICE MAKER REPLACEMENT THAT IS WHY WE WERE GOING TO CHARGE HER FOR A NEW ONE. WE UNDERSTAND HER FRUSTRATION BUT SHE MUST UNDERSTAND THAT PARTS ARE NOT ALWAYS AVAILABLE FOR OLD EQUIPMENT."
