We will also recommend them. I noticed that a lot of my neighbors up a long the street are working with them because they are great. All positive. They were all here, whatever they had to do they did. Overall experience, I will give them an A all across the board. Well, they are wonderful.

A pleasant and knowledgeable young man (Chaz) came out at about the scheduled time, and, based on what I described, quickly identified the problem as the dual start / run capacitor, which he replaced with a new one for a completed job in 10 minutes. Then I got the bill. I was charged $253 for the capacitor. I'm not unfamiliar with capacitors, or what they do (store an electrical charge to be fully discharged when needed) and although this was the biggest one I've handled (about the size and shape of a slightly smaller soda can) it's $253 cost was shocking. I went online and retail-priced the capacitor used and found it cost $48.69 (again, that's retail). I called Island Air to ask if a 520% markup over retail cost on this capacitor is normal. Elizabeth, obviously straining to remain civil, told me they charge what is within industry standards, adding that I should call other air conditioning businesses to confirm this. I thanked Elizabeth and told her I would. I called two other Angie's List highly rated local A/C service providers to confirm what Elizabeth said. I called A&H Services Inc. (561 689-5353), explained the situation (never mentioning Island Air Conditioning?s name) and asked if they could confirm if I had been charged what could be considered a reasonable price according to industry practices. I was told that I had indeed been charged too much. The total cost of this service call / diagnosis / repair would have been $187 with them. (I paid $338) I next called Aurora Air Conditioning (561 584-8446), and again explained the situation (again keeping Island Air Conditioning?s name confidential). I was again told I had been overcharged for this, and my cost for this would have been between $190 and $200 from them. I was also told air conditioning businesses do not pay retail prices for their parts, adding that these capacitors generally cost them about $25 to $30. Based on a $30 cost, Island Air has (had?) a 843% markup on this item. I wrote them explaining everything, and noting their logo includes a statement of 100% satisfaction guaranteed. I received a check for $100 several days later with a letter from Island Air Principal Steve Ruud saying, in part, Speaking with my peers in the industry I found a range from $220 to $350 for the capacitor replacement with service call and repair. ...the pricing we have created is what we need to charge to provide the quality of service that I would expect at my home. ...There is always going to be someone less or more expensive and we cannot guarantee the cheapest repair but no one will provide a better service than Island Air. Guaranteed. Subtracting $100 from their charge to me for the capacitor against the $48.69 retail price of the item, still provides them with a 314% markup (510% markup over $30). I want these companies to make a reasonable profit in providing good service to their customers. I do not think a several-hundred times markup is reasonable, however. I suggest caution to all others in using Island Air Conditioning.

We always ask for Zac to come for our service. Polite, CLEAN, great communication about our system. Always on time. When he enters into attic "crawl space" insulation (little pieces) will fall and he cleans them up and provides a very concise Tune-up invoice. Through Zac, we found out the age of our Air handler, and condenser. Which we were not aware of. Great work and they deserve a "superstar" category.

Great company. Our a/c died on weekend. They came out on Sunday, determined unit was very low on coolant due to leak, temporarily refilled unit and put dye in system to find leak. By next day unit was already not blowing cold air. They came out again that day and determined by where dye was evident that two coils were bad, a big leak. Materials were still under warranty from manufacturer but not labor. They unfortunately had to order coils (and they completely dealt with manufacturer regarding warranty), kept us informed all along while we were waiting for parts to be delivered by manufacturer. After few days the manufacturer sent the wrong parts! Island bought a whole new unit that same day to remove the coils from it so those parts could be installed in our unit, because they felt we had waited long enough. Everyone we met in person or spoke to on phone was exceedingly nice. Price was very reasonable for what they did. Very good experience with this company, thanks Angies List for directing us to them.

Extremely satisfied with the product and service. Island pulled permit and performed work to code. Installation was excellent with float switches, drip pans and an aluminum stand for the indoor airhandler. The shelf in the utility close that the old unit rested on had to be removed. The removal and patch work was done very professionally. The two man installation crew showed up on time, worked hard and left the indoor / outdoor work areas looking at least as good as they did when they arrived. Every time you call the office there is someone there who can talk to you and answer your questions. This company will service Northern Broward County (where I live), but unfortunately the revisions Angie has made to the list in the last couple of years makes it hard for anyone living in Northern Broward to find this company on the list anymore. If you live near an Angies List service area border, you need to have access to and search multiple service areas to really know who is available to service you. This isn't Island Air Conditionings fault, but it is a shame that a lot of potential customers are going to miss out on being serviced by the first class company because of this unfortunate policy revision by Angie.

We were handling things remotely as we were not in town when the A/C went out. I noticed one of our air conditioning units wasn't kicking on. Island Air does our routine maintenance, so we called them to check it out. Jason was professional and pleasant. He checked out both our units and spent a fair amount of time going through everything. When I had questions he gave polite and helpful answers. We had lost a lot of coolant, which he replaced. This was one thing I wasn't thrilled with. They charged $40 per pound for R-410A. I called a couple of other places and that's typical (one place was $50/pound), but you can buy 25-30 pounds online for about $100. Now I'm thinking about buying a 30-gallon container and keeping it in the garage - but that might make me just a little bit crazy. Anyway, he put in an ultraviolet chemical so he could come back and check for where the leaks are. He came back two weeks later (included in the price) and said our coils needed to be replaced. He called the office and they gave us an estimate for a total of $800 to replace the coils. This is for labor - our units are still under warranty so the parts are covered. It seemed like a lot, but when I called the other places they were more expensive. We're not happy that our 3-year-old units needed such expensive work, so we won't be buying Rheem next time. But that's not the fault of Island Air.

The company promptly responded to my request for installation in Sept. 2011 and spent the better part of two days installing units. They handled all FPL/mfr rebates, etc. When they completed the installation, they requested that I sign a waiver of a municipal inspection, something that they had not previously discussed with me. Apparently Palm Beach County has a random inspection program for certain qualifying vendors (Island Air is apparently qualified for this), but I was not comfortable having this installation completed without inspection, so I requested that they have it inspected. They arranged for the municipal inspection at no further cost to me. Surprisingly, their work failed both the first and second inspections, and finally passed on a third try. This required them to return to my home three times, and for me to wait for them to show up (they were late once). My review of the building inspector's comments suggested the failures were largely "minutia" in that a duct or joint wasn't completely sealed and/or insulated and something wasn't fully labeled properly. Overall, their work appeared to be done well and they left a clean workplace when they were finished. The inspection failure was a small inconvenience, and was easily offset by their impressive customer follow-ups. They contacted me at least twice thereafter to see if everything was working to my satisfaction, returned twice to examine the system and readily answered my calls to them to ask how to operate the new thermostat and humidistat. These folks are on the ball! This is an impressive customer-oriented company. I have already referred a neighbor to them, and they did not embarrass me. They responded promptly and fixed the neighbors problem at a reasonable price. The number of good ratings for this company on this website are there for a reason. If you've got AC or heating issues, this is the company to call.
Description of Work: I had delayed submitting my review pending my longer-term evaluation of the A/C units they installed. This company responded to my request to check lack of cooling in Aug 2011. They advised that system was leaking refrigerant due to age, and were among 3 vendors from whom I requested a bid to replace entire system (2 compressors, 2 air handlers). One vendor did not reply, and they were low bidder of the two that did.

I recently purchased a home with 3 ac units. I called Island to maintain and service them. The units had been neglected and were filthy. The tech spent a lot of time cleaning each one with great care and detail. He added freon to optimize the cooling. The units work great now. There was a horrible dog smell in the house due to the dirty air handler and after the service the smell is gone. I signed a service contract and will be using them again. This is a company that likes to do things right and concentrates on customer service.

The service provider spent 25 minutes (according to his receipt) on a Saturday repairing my a/c unit, and charged $135.00 for the weekend call. I understood that there would be an additional charge for the service on a Saturday but I did not know that there would be an additional charge for the part because it was a weekend. The repairman said he told me that prior to the call. He did not. Why would a part cost more on a weekend day than any other day of the week?

They were great. The team arrived about 35 minutes early. I asked them why and they said that they like to show up early so that they can walk the site, inspect the work that needs to be done, check to see if special tools will be needed, and then to prep it all so that they can start sharp on-time. Ok (?!?) Well they were great. They even had a little pup-tent so that they could continue the installation after it started to rain. The supervisor who gave me the quote was there first thing and then came at the end to inspect the work. The team were really knowledgeable, answered all my questions and made it really easy for me. Told me all the things to look out for in the future, etc. Great experience and the work was spot-on. Highly Recommended!

I purchased the big deal from Angie's List and it went just fine. They discovered there was a problem so I ended up spending like a $172. They scheduled pretty quickly and came out when they were supposed to. They were very polite and friendly. They did the work that we asked them to do. We did have a little bit of a problem, there was a leak as something wasn't sealed properly so they sent someone else out afterwards to fix that.
