Island Air Conditioning

We had an air conditioner failure late Friday evening. The indoor air handler was running but the outdoor condensor was not. In the middle of June it was essential to get the A/C working right away so I paid for the Saturday call which meant a visit/diagnostic fee of $130. The technician arrived quickly and soon diagnosed the problem: one of the capacitors that starts up the motors in the condensor was not charging any more. His replacement part cost $180, which compared very favorably to the cooling fan motor replacement I was afraid of buying. The technician was very competent and professional. The promptness, thoroughness, and cost of the services he provided were all excellent, and I would not hesitate to call Island Air again under similar circumstances.

They were the only ones that understood what I wanted. They gave a spec that was exactly what I was asking for. They gave me a great price. They were on time and in budget. I have the best system out there that you can possibly buy. It's the best Train unit with the highest efficiency. The system has been saving me money on my electric bill.

My AC unit started leaking in the evening. I contacted Island Air at approximately 7 pm. My voice mail message was returned within 15 minutes. The service repair individual explained that he was working on a job and would be available in approximately 1/2 hours. He quoted the price for an emergency visit. We agreed that he would call me when he finished the job he was on. I did receive a call when he was finished and we agreed that he would come to my home that evening and we agreed upon the cost for the emergency visit. The work was performed quickly and professionally. The fee was as stated on the phone.

All of the people at Island AC have been great to work with. They follow up on the service request professionally. They installed everything in one day, despite a small setback with one part of the job. They cleaned everything up. I recommend this contractor.

My air handler's blower motor died on a Wednesday night. Thursday morning I called Elizabeth at Island Air Conditioning and she worked us into the schedule for that day - around 11:00 AM. When they got delayed Elizabeth called me before the actual appointment time to let me know and although I'd obviously preferred they made the 11:00 appointment - they were proactive enough to call before it became an issue. Island Air Conditioning replaced my entire AC system about 5 years ago - the bid was very competitive and they installed a new system that reduced my electric bill by almost half. I've used them for all my maintenance and service. Everyone has always been VERY nice and done whatever they could to make us happy - there is not a lot of turnover there - I talk to the same people since since 2005. I would recommend them highly.

The guys arrived on time and let us know they were there. The work did take an hour or two longer than expected and they let me know during the day about their expected end time. No surprises. When installing the thermostate they were respectful entering the house and everything was cleaned up. They are the BEST.

Since we knew that we would probably have to replace the entire system, we had called 3 companies, 2 from Angie's List, to check out the system. All 3 companies agreed that the system needed to be replaced. Although I was very pleased with Island Air's technician and service we decided to us another company, NOT from Angie's list, since their cost for the same system was "considerably" less. We are on a fixed income, so cost was a major factor. The other company was also able to offer financing of 12 months same as cash. I would, however, consider Island Air for service in the future due to their prompt courteous service. The other company that we used, NOT from Angie's List, did not submit the paperwork for the permit and were not responsive when we called them when our village made them stop work the day they were installing the system. They did complete the installation the next day, but we have been informed by our village that they still have not submitted the paperwork. This time they promised to send the paperwork to us to sign so that they can correct this situation. They were very fast to get us to commit to the installation but not so fast to correct their problems. I'm just very thankful that the installation appears to be fine since I don't think that I would want to have to deal with them if it was not!!

I spoke to Elizabeth, who had answered the phone, and asked the price of a five-ton unit. Without hesitation, she told me. I was trying to get estimates so I called two other companies. Each said they would send a technician over but that they could not give me a price for a unit without seeing what kind I needed. I said I knew what I needed and was doing a price comparison. They said in effect that I did not know what I needed. So I invited one these companies to send a representative, a very prominent company in our area. The representative offered an inferior unit to me at full price less a rebate that should have been $400 higher. The day after Island Air's installation, I had a minor problem which the next day Brian came and since then the unit has worked like a dream. The company is small, and has only 50 technicians. The ones that serve me said that this company was the best one ever worked for. The sentiment showed in their work and said everything.

Brian spent a great deal of time inspecting my existing system and planning out three alternatives for me to choose from. He answered all of my questyions very professionaly and he left me a detailed written proposal. He is checking -- as I write I might add - to see if we can arrive at a final price to fit my budget which and I wish us both good luck as I would love to use them.

Service man arrived on time and did the tune up that I asked for. Although he did not take very long I suppose he did a good job. He could have provided more information on the condition of my AC unit. I would have to say the overall grade I would give this company is a B. It was a good experience and I would hire them again.

We moved into this condo almost three months ago and realized after a while as the weather got hot, our condo would not stay cool. The air conditioning would stop cooling several times during the day and would have to be reset to start to cool again. Sometimes it would not reset at all. We called Island on a Monday morning and requested an appointment to check out our system. They gave us a price for that service of $85. The technician from Island came that afternoon during the appointed time period, calling to confirm 20 minutes ahead. He first cleaned the air filter and discussed maintenance requirements there. Then he discovered that the inside unit had been improperly installed two years ago. After he rewired the unit (just a minor adjustment) the fan started to run at a much higher rate. The outside compressor turned out to be 11 years old and it was explained that it needed an adjustment and parts to match the system inside and to boost the cooling system. After he made these repairs (he priced them before he performed them) he discussed the ongoing issues I needed to understand about my system. He was thoroughly professional and explained everything with great clarity. He made no effort to sell me anything other than the services I needed. I was impressed with him and am pleased to find that my system now cools my condo with no problem at all. I'm sure the people who sold me my condo suffered. I'm glad I called Island and will certainly call them again when I need these services.

Things were just fine. I thought he did a really good job. He took his time and was careful, and he suggested a couple of things. He said that I was overloaded with freon, and there were double filters on there that were making the machine work harder than it needed to. He gave me some helpful advice.

I've owned this house for about two years. The house in 21 years old, the current A/C unit was manufactured in 2001. The A/C seems to work fine. However, I decided that I should have an annual check up and selected Island since they were rated highly on Angies List. My experience was ok. The technician was on time and seemed competent. I can't say that I am totally happy with the experience since he told me that he could not clean my coils without removing the air handling unit and that would cost a couple of hundred dollars. He also told me that my unit was close to being worn out and this would be a good time to buy a new one. I ended up paying another $50 for freon and I think he used one of my spare filters to replace the existing one. This would have been ok but I had just replaced the filter about two weeks ago and the filters cost about $12-13 each. All the things the technician told me may well be true. However, I can't get too excited about someone who basically gave me all bad news. Hopefully I can get through the summer without buying a new A/C unit.

The company representative was very knowledgeable informative about the Trane system. He took time to explain the details of the job. They have very competitive pricing. It was a close decision between Island Air and another Company.

I went with them because they were rated highly on the list and were a local company. I spent about $5,000 on that job. The guy that came out and gave me an estimate was so friendly and nice and gave prices right away. They gave me a good price right from the beginning, gave me 3 options and I went with the top one because there was such good rebate and got the best system. I think it was excellent and it was so easy, nothing was a problem. They came when they said they were going to and finished in a very short time. I feel like I got such a good deal without having to fight for it. It is a small company and they came with an honest price and did what they said they were going to and included maintenance for 2 years. I got the unit that they advertise on TV.

Trying to isolate a leak, I called Island for an estimate on a broken duct and general replacement of the ductwork (It's 22 years old and in bad shape). Steve examined the ductwork and determined the duct was not the direct cause of that particular leak. In any case I asked for and got estimates for both the small and large jobs. I opted for the larger job at first. Island Air was very gracious when I rescheduled the job several times and finally just opted for the smaller repair. The men who did the job arrived on-time, were polite and friendly and cleaned everything up when they were done. I am very happy with my experience with this company and will use them in the future.

It went ok. There were a few minor problems but they took care of them.

They did a thorough job figuring out and helping with our unusual a/c situation. We have air ducts running under the house through the cement slab. They solved the problem right away and got on the phone to find us a replacement unit. They also discovered our compressor was under warranty and they replaced the blade on that for a very minimal fee. Terrific company and reliable workers.

It was a very big job. I know we needed it. It had been a while now. We are all set. I got real good service from them. They were very good.

Installers arrived on time, removed two old units, installed two new units, cleaned up & left in approximately 7 1/2 hours. They did a super installation. I couldn't be more satisfied or impressed.

Overall, I have had a wonderful experience with them. They did a very good job, and they cleaned up after themselves. I was very pleased with them.

The salesman and the work crew both were punctual and very professional. The salesman spent a good deal of time advising me why a/c units uswed in Florida had issues that ones used up north did not. He actually sold me off a more expensive unit because the outdoor part of the unit had a tendency to corrode more quickly than the one I purchased. The job was done quickly and neatly. The men hardly made a sound - we weren't sure they were working and actually had to check. A small problem was quickly remedied at no charge. The price was very fair. They completed all the paperwork I needed for tax credit and applied the local FPL credits to the price. I would recommend them in a second. This was a first rate job.

Excellent. They were professional, on time, got the AC working, and the price didn't seem unreasonable.

This time, our air conditioner died...on the hottest day since World War II! They came out within 2 hours of our call, checked the unit, and found that the problem was an inexpensive part had worn out. They also checked the system and rebalanced our air flow to obtain better cooling throughout the house. Professional, honest, and great service!
