Island Air Conditioning

, explained what Main AC wasn't cooling as it should so I performed basic troubleshooting and found frost on the big freon line (not good). Called Island Air at 8am and they told me they could have a technician over between 12 and 2pm. I got a call at 11:30 advising the tech (Jason) was on his way. All previous reviews of this company is spot on...Jason was very professional; explained what could be wrong and unfortunately confirmed my fear, that I will need to replace my system. $85 for the visit and $75 to detect the location of the leak.

Due to some other work carried out at the house it was suggested that our air conditioning unit be replaced. I called Island Air Conditioning for a second opinion. Unfortunately they have an $80 call out fee that is only refundable if you purchase a new AC system through them. This was very disappointing to me as I don't like to deal with companies who do not offer free estimates and it also states on their Angie's List profile "Yes" and no other information under the "Free Estimate" box. Due to their excellent reviews and the possibility that we might need to replace the unit anyway I went ahead and had them come out. Bryan tested the condenser and it was giving off higher amps than it should and it wasn't something he was able to remedy. He said it could have some undetermined life left in it but it will need replacing at some point. We decided to replace the whole thing and took advantage of FPL's rebate as well, which Island was able to take care of without any hassle involving us (they're an approved FPL contractor). Island was able to set up an instal date very quickly which was great for us because we were without AC at the time. I believed that Bryan would be there for the instal but it was two different guys who carried it out (I later found out they have dedicated crews for the installations). It only took the guys most of a day for installation of the new condenser and air handler unit and they also did a couple of additional little things I'd asked Bryan about like fit a new return vent for easier access to the filter and extend the air conditioner drain further away from the house. I am very pleased that these were remembered. I had Bryan come back one night to look over a couple of things I was concerned about. He was very prompt in responding and came out after regular work hours. There was a piece on the air handler unit that looked like it was missing a black cap like the other similar shaped openings had covering them and so there was some water dribbling from that opening. He taped over that for me and also added some more tape to the insulated pipes at my request. The communication the whole time with Island was excellent and they were always prompt at replying to me and they were punctual when visiting the house. Island was also patient with me when I had to take a few extra days to move some funds around before payment. Since installation I've noticed a regular drip from one of the insulation pipes on the air handler unit. I've been assured this is typical of an air handler unit in an unconditioned space; it is just "sweating". However, I don't recall our AC unit doing that in the last place we were living. Anyway, it drips on to the box supporting the air handler unit. This was installed without paint treatment and therefore if the drip was left to go onto the untreated wood over time this would cause an issue with mold, mildew and wood rot etc. I feel Island should install their support boxes already prior treated because of this issue. It would be a lot easier and thorough to paint them prior to installation as well. They could also provide a drip tray. Luckily I had something suitable for the narrow ledge below the pipe. The wood used for the support box seems very cheap with lots of large knots and a few cracks, the sort of things that suggest possible air leakage, something that you want to avoid for an energy efficient system. Overall, I am happy with Island. The bulk of the work and their service has been very good and I would recommend them and use them again and I will contact them for future service on the unit.

Vacuumed out and cleaned the AC line (both from the external pipe and the AC unit). Filled trap back up with water. Ran unit for 30 minutes to make sure it was working correctly. Did some extra taping and screwing to make unit less noisy. Also showed me what to look for in the future to avoid sludge backups. For future savings, the technician said I could get a vaccuum at Home Depot and do it myself. If I didn't want to do it myself, I could get a service agreement with Island Air for about $150 per year. There was no hard sell -- very pleasant technician.

We initially called them because our A/C wasn't working. It was a weekend and would have cost a lot just to have them come out to check the problem, then the additional repair costs. The man on-call actually walked us through a troubleshooting process OVER THE PHONE, and had our A/C working again within 30 minutes! He didn't charge anything for his time. He suggested that we call the office on Monday morning to set up an appointment to have them come do an inspection and yearly maintenance of our A/C. They did a great job. Very professional and helped us understand how to avoid common problems. About 2-3 months after this, we returned home to find that the A/C wasn't working again, and called Island Air. They were at our home 1 hour later. They diagnoses the problem, and gave an estimate to repair the problem. The estimate was approximately 1/3 of what an entire new unit would cost. As it turned out, we decided to replace our 10+ year old A/C, rather than repair it. They were able to schedule the work to be done in 48 hours, and considering it is the middle of summer, we were very glad we didn't have to wait any longer. They arrived first thing in the morning and stayed until after dinnertime, to complete the job. All the the employees we interacted with were friendly, professional and very knowledgeable. They listened to our questions and explained all our options thoroughly. Overall, it was a great company to work with and I would highly recommend them!

Technician was punctual, knowledgeable, and very professional. the problem was very simple, but he stayed to make sure that was the issue and that it was resolved.

Old a/c was on its death bed and it was 95+ degrees outside so we needed help fast. The tech took a look at the old unit, tried to get it up and running, and unfortunately the 14-year-old unit didn't make it. Within 2 days, we had a new unit and cold air. Very professional crew, quick response times, good clean up after install, and reasonable price made this rating very easy. They even handled the FPL rebate for us. Very smooth transaction - highly recommended. Just a follow up: Two weeks after the installation, Steve (I believe he's one of the owners or a manager) came back out to check the unit, make any necessary adjustments, and to see if everything was running smoothly. This type of follow up shows a level of professionalism and pride in work that is seldom available from other service providers.

They were very professional at every level. When I called, all my concerns and needs were answered. When the sales person came to my house everything promised on the phone was reality. The installers were great and neat. A few days after, the owner of the company came over and inspected the installation and made sure that I was pleased. The whole experience was great.

When there was a large amount of water coming from our air conditioner and spilling onto our garage floor, we thought we were going to have to replace the unit. We called Island Air thinking that was the case, but when Brian came out (that same day), he said it looked like it just needed flushing out. He performed the work quickly and efficiently. The cover for where the air filter goes has also been missing since we bought the house. At our request, he took the number to get us a price to replace it. Two days later, we received a call just to make sure the unit wasn't still leaking (which it wasn't), and they gave us a price on the cover. We're waiting for it to arrive and we'll have them install it. We were very happy with the service we received from Island Air and will definitely call them again as problems arise!

I am in LA and my mom's ac at her house in Delray was not working in the middle of a typical sweltering June day in Florida. After checking out Angie's list, I had my mom call Island Air. They came the next day, fixed the a/c which was only a "pan" problem. With a coupon from Angie's List the cost was $75; not bad. I spoke to Steve who came to the house and he gave me a full explanation of the problem and the fix. In a place where ripping off older adults is a way of life, I was very, very pleased with Steve and Island Air.

Our unit stopped cooling and they were great diagnosing and fixing the issue on the spot. I was very happy with the service I received. From the office staff to the techs - they are very responsive and helpful. When the time comes to replace our unit, they will be the ones we go to.

From the very start with meeting with the owner Steve Ruud to evaluate the best unit to replace my existing unit to the installation of the unit the service was top notch. Mr. Ruud figured out why my home was difficult too cool and made suggestions that have been wonderful since the new unit has been installed. The service men who were here the entire day were a pleasure to deal with, courteous and respectful of my home. The pricing was very fair as I had gotten prior estimates and recommendations on things to do. Getting this subcontractor from Angie's List Mr. Ruud even took off $200.00 for coming from Angies List without me even showing him the coupon I had and had given me the estimate before he knew I had gotten them from Angie's List

My neighbor told me about Island Air as my AC failed right during a heat wave last month. Their main tech came out and was incredibly professional and helped us get through the week as we had a family function. In the meantime, they gave me a very competitive price and we ordered the SEER16 Carrier. They came out within a week and did a complete replacement. The work was excellent, their respect for the home was tremendous, and most importantly the system works great. Also, I know I made a great decision when the inspector comes out and said "yup, this is the work of Island Air" as he points out the tight work around the connections, hoses and platform work. He stated he is always impressed by the work of Island Air. Highly recommended. BTW, the $3,400 included the rebate from FPL that Island Air completed the paper work on my behalf.

Arrived on time. Three men worked all day to install 24ACC660 and 24ACC618 units. All three were courteous, knowledgeable and efficient. Units seen to be working well. Garage area was cleaned up after completion.

The tech showed up on time and very professional. He wrote up a detailed report of what he did and pointed out some repairs he did. He also let me know of a roof repair that was needed by the ac unit. For only $89 I feel I got a great bargain. I will use them again.

I first called them to clean & inspect my old air conditioner as it was not working. It could be repaired, but at a high cost & would not last very long anyway. They installed a new Carrier unit that is energy effiecient. I was very happy with the service.

Island Air was called in to give a second opinion on an old air conditioner unit. The man who came was professional and put the a/c unit through several tests before making any determination. It was recommended that we replace rather than fix the old unit. To my surprise, Island Air did not charge for the call or the testing done since they could not fix the unit. I was very impressed with all the contact I had with Island Air personnel and would highly recommend them. They were professional, honest and good to work with.

.Unlike other companies that often find something seriously wrong when they come to do a tune-up, Zac was very honest and found nothing wrong. We will use Island AC again and recommend the company to all our friends.

I have nothing negative to say about them. Everything about them is an A+. I haven't had any problems with the service. They are very efficient, very detailed, and their price is reasonable. I was very, very impressed. They gave me a rebate to fill out for FCL and they gave me a discount on the total amount. I was pretty impressed with that. They have offered my 2 or 3 service. Every time they come in they educate me more. They encourage questions and I have a lot. I have a system that has a pump and it was working to hard and causing a lot of damage to my home. They are going to educate me on what was happening and shouldn't be happening with my system until we got it right. They came on time, they answered all my questions, they teach you how to maintain the unit, and how often you should do it. I think that is a plus and you don't find that often anymore. Their price is reasonable. They could be cheaper, but it fits with prices in today's world.
