AAA Modern Air

On June 15th they came and said they cleared the lines, and other preventative maintenance. So on August 14th, our drainage line backed up, and my walls became wet, my son's carpet is ruined, and molding has started. We have had to hire a company to come out and take care of the water damage. When the air technician came out on 8/14 for emergency service, there was so much sludge backed up that even he didn't think it was done right back on June 15th. They were supposed to flush out the drain lines in June, according to the contract and apply an algae treatment. I had to get 3 quotes for water damage repair, and now we are paying $900 for water damage not even including the carpets. I called on 8/16 and asked to talk to the owner/manager Tony, we took pictures of what came out of the drains and other damage. The technician said the flushing would take about 30 seconds, it actually took over 45 seconds to even get it started. I gave them an opportunity to make this right, since we are talking about $1500 in damages. He said he would get back to me, and I still haven't heard anything back. I called them again, and Tony said that he couldn't be held accountable because drains back up. I asked for my money back according to their 100% guarantee. They did not apply the algae treatment or clear the drains, and that is what caused the problem in the first place.

I was given a reasonable price, (it was actually the lowest estimate I was given). I was impressed by their work. Their service was pretty good and they did it all in one day. It was a clean job.

Job was professional from start to finish. Installation date was established and company called the day before to confirm and advise time they would arrive. Installers were here on time and installation was completed without any problem. They were knowledgeable and informative and courteous. All work areas were cleaned up before they left. We received a call the following day to make sure the new system was working properly and ask if we had any questions or concerns. We selected AAA Modern Air based on other Angie's List reviews and they were right on. We were very impressed and highly recommend this company.

Our outside compressor stopped working on a Saturday afternoon (after-hours, of course). Robin from AAA called us back quickly and was able to come out in about an hour. He quickly identified the issue (bad capacitor) and was able to replace it and figure out a minor issue with a switch that was stuck. I am satisfied with the service we received but I learned that the price AAA charges for parts is higher for an after-hours call. While I understand that the charge for a service call is going to be higher than it is in the middle of the week -- overtime pay for workers, etc. -- I think that charging a higher price for a part simply because its the weekend is a form of price gouging. Ultimately, I got what I needed and paid what I had to pay and considering the temperature outside when the A/C died, I was very happy they came out so quickly. Just don't like to feel like I am getting screwed because I have bad timing with my A/C problem.

This was the fourth time AAA has worked on my A/C in the past 3 years. I have had 4 different workers and only 2 of them knew what they were doing. I have spent $600 to have them replace the breaker inside the air handler, the fan relay, the thermostat, and this last visit, the capacitor. They have flushed out the drain line and insulated the drain pipes. They have also sold me 2 maintenance contracts for $125 each, which are each good for 2 routine maintenance visits within 1 year. I did not have them come out for the second visit under the first maintenance contract, and so I forfeited it. They would not give me any credit for it. I would only recommend Bob or Alf.

The professional and courteous service from the estimate to the installation was great. They were not pushy, were on time and were great in clean up afterwards.

They brought a whole team that showed up precisely at 8AM. When they couldn't be there on time, they informed us of that matter. It took them 2 days and was able to rig the AC unit so that we could sleep in our bedroom. Their price similar to others, but I felt they were more aware and more knowledgeable than other companies. They were also better than explaining things and their customer service was very good. We also had to get some electrical work done and provided a great electrician they worked with to get that work done. We scheduled the work to be done when we did, so we could take advantage of a rebate they were offering. I liked the team and thought they were quality workers. I would use them again in the future.

They were excellent. We have a duplex and the tenant called us. She said that the air was out and it was really hot. It was late on a Saturday. I called a few people. Some of them were not open on Saturday. Some of them said they would fix it on Sunday but would charge twice as much. I called AAA Modern Air. They came and fixed it on Sunday and they were not expensive. They did not charge extra because they came on a Sunday. We were satisfied with them. The air conditioner is working perfectly since then and it was probably done in summer.

Their price/estimate was the best.They made an huge effort to communicate with my elderly parents who were home to receive/open the house for them. I wish they had left a filter in place ... i found out the machine was running without a filter 2 days later... no big deal.

Congratulations AAA Modern Air for a very good job ! I met with 3 companies to quote the work. Their pricing was fair, on a very close level to the other quotes. The work was performed on a very timely, organized and efficient manner. Workers were very tidy and polite. All contracted terms were fully respected. I am very happy with their job.

Each tech is very helpful. I have several properties. They are professional and pleasant.

We found out from two other professionals after the work was done that the compresser is too close to the wall. It was not up to code and he also put it in backwards. The cement that it is sitting on needs to be bigger in order for it to be further away from the house. We have contacted this company to come out and redo the work and he will not come out. We would not recommend him to anyone.

When our old unit (it was only about 5 years old but was a cheap model like the ones installed in new constructions) started leaking again, we decided it was time to replace it. On the evening of May 13, 2008, we found AAA Modern Air through Angie's List and set up an appointment through AAA's website. At about 8am the next morning, we got a call from them. Hans came out to give us an estimate before noon that day. After a few other estimates that day, we called Hans back in the afternoon. He came back within the hour; we settled on a unit (a 5 ton, 15 Seer, 2 stage Lennox, which we were told would be a lot quieter than our old unit ... I'm not so sure about that, but it is significantly energy efficient). We gave Hans a deposit. Installation was set for 2 days later (May 16). On May 15th, they called to confirm and advised of their arrival time the next day. On May 16, three workers arrived by 8:30am and finished about 5:30pm. A supervisor came out while the technicians were still here because they blew a fuse when they tested the heat. The issue was resolved and the work was completed successfully. The following morning (Saturday, May 17), the supervisor came back by our house to show us how to use the new thermostat and to ensure the work was satisfactory. Everyone representing the company was extremely polite, professional and a pleasure to work with - even through a small snag: the unit we chose came with a rebate from Lennox, which we were told we would receive in 8-10 weeks. When after 12 weeks we hadn't gotten anything, I called and spoke with John. John called me a few days later to say he had again provided the paperwork to Lennox (I got the impression maybe Lennox had misplaced our rebate). John asked me to call him if I didn't get the rebate in a few weeks. About 4 weeks later, I called John again. He again was very apologetic and said he would look into it and call me back. A couple of days later, we got a call from the Lennox regional manager advising they had been having problems with inputting rebates into their system and that the delay was in no form AAA Modern Air's fault. Finally, 6 months after installation, we got our check from Lennox. Hopefully after all of this, Lennox has taken care of that issue because that was the only thing that put a damper on an otherwise flawless experience. We would DEFINITELY recommend AAA Modern Air!

They came out first thing Monday morning. I think there are companies that might have taken advantage here. They were wonderful. I now have a service contract with them. We had been told by another company that the unit was not going to last very long. They suggested we get a new one. When the guy from AAA came out, he checked the particular thing and told us it was not a problem at all. The price shown is for the maintenance contract for a year. We have had a maintenance contract with them ever since.

They came twice a year for the maintenance and that went fine. About one month ago, I had an issue with my air conditioner. Turning on and off again. So, I called them back out to help with this. He explained that I needed a new condenser because it was old. I asked him for a price and he said 2300.00 dollars. I was very upset with this price, it just seemed to high. He tried to defend his quote and charged me $65.00 dollars for the service call, which would be returned if I purchased the condenser through them. So I called another company and asked them what it would cost for the condenser and they told me around $1200.00. Almost 1000.00 dollars cheaper than the previous company. So, I had the new company come out and immediately he explained to me that it wasn't my condenser, it was my thermostat. He ordered a new thermostat and replace it for about $200.00! It saved me tons of money.

My 20 year old system finally died two days before vacation. I called them and they came out immediately to check. The were able to schedule installation the next day and I was able to leave on vacation as planned. It was nice to know the house was air conditioned while I was away. They were profession, efficient and did a good job. They cleaned up after themselves.

My first appointment with the co. did not go as well as expected because the technician that evaluated the problem was brand new to AAA Modern Air, and did not yet know some of the company policies/prices. He was an experienced tech and pinpointed the problem immediately. He was also professional and personable. A long-time employee accompanied the new hire to the appointment, but did not enter my apt. for the service call. I met him at the very end of the app't. There was a conflict about policy and price, and I did not schedule an appointment to have the work done. When the two techs left, I immediately called the company. Now, my frown was turned upside down... I spoke with Kelly, the dispatch manager. She was extremely helpful, understanding and went above and beyond in helping to resolve the situation. She explained the company's policies for first time service calls and maintenance plan contracts. She also quoted me a discounted price (because of what had transpired) to do the coil cleaning. I was now ready to proceed with the job. Surprisingly, a few minutes later, Kelly called back and said that she told the owner of the company about my experience, and that he would like to speak with me. His name is Sal. It was a pleasure speaking with him. He apologized for the confusion, and seemed to really care about his company, employees, and making sure that his customers are happy. He is a 'hands on' owner who is willing to take responsibility for his employees actions and do whatever he can to rectify a problem and make the customer happy. And he did just that. Sal gave me not only a wonderful surprise when it came to the maintenance plan, but (as he said), a serious discount for the coil cleaning. When the appointment day came, not only did the technician (Rene) arrive, but also Sal and another expert (Dante). It was nice to meet Sal in person. His personal approach is much appreciated. After a discussion of the work to be done, Sal and Dante left, and Rene began the coil cleaning. He did an excellent job. Not only was he professional and informative, he constantly cleaned up after himself as he worked. I could not have asked for a better outcome. When I phoned the company after the first encounter, and I was put in touch with Kelly, and because of her, I feel, things really went beautifully. I believe that she initiated all the good that has now transpired. She told Sal, and he kindly and wisely took the situation in hand. And now, because of this, I will be making an appointment with them for a bigger job at a relative's apt. who is in serious need of a good a/c company. My thanks to AAA Modern Air, and I hope that things continue to go this well when I see them for the next job at my relative's.

This is the worst company. Last Summer my A/C was leaking badly, I called them out to look at it. The technician told me that I needed a brand new unit even though my unit was only 6 years old and there was nothing he could do to fix my existing unit. So I bought a brand new unit... come to find out later by their own installer that I did not need a new unit at all! They installed the new unit and 2 months later it started leaking as well - I called the company and they told me I would have to pay for a service call, but they would come out and take a look. They technician fixed the leak but said the way the unit was installed it may happen again (my unit is in my attic so it leaks through the ceiling). Now my A/C is broken completely - about one year later and they want to charge me again to fix something that they installed and installed improperly. I do not recommend using this company AT ALL!

The A/C stopped blowing cold air, was leaking and the pipe was frozen over. We flushed out the pipe ourselves, thinking it was a block in the drain line (we've done this before for a leak and it fixed the problem) but it didn't solve the problem. We called this company after checking Angie's List to come check and fix the problem but the guy wasn't completely sure what it was. He cleaned the pipes again and some of the rust that we had inside the unit. He said the pan and coil was dirty and that our unit may need replacing (it's a 1991 unit). He said another guy would come out in two days to give us a quote. He was well mannered and seemed honest. He charged us $65. The second guy came and had a look at the unit. He said that a/cs only last about 10 years and was telling us we may need to change it but that he didn't want us to do it if it wasn't the problem for the leak. He said the first guy that came out was too vague and that he wanted another guy to come out and double check that there wasn't a problem with the compressor. He wasn't pushy but he did go over some of the new a/c units and gave us a quote. Third guy came to do the crosscheck. Wasn't very friendly. Seemed aggravated that he was there, didn't seem to know exactly what he had to check (probably a miscommunication on their part) and went to check the compressor outside. After disappearing for some time (I found him sitting in his van on the phone), I went out there to inquire what the hold up was. He tells me he's on the line with the company and that we were low on refrigerant and that he filled it up "for free" but he needs to do a leak check and that would cost $400 and it would take at least an hour. We didn't go ahead with this because I was late for work (they came later than the time given and told me it would be really fast to check but I waited a good length of time while this guy was sitting in his van on the phone). We then called another company. They were very professional and well mannered. I asked numerous questions and all were answered. The man was honest and told me that it could only be a small number of things that was wrong (dirty coil, gas leak, low refrigerant etc) but that it was harder for him to check when the last person had filled the gas up. One of the caps on the hoses was leaking a small amount of gas and he said that over time, this leak could have caused the pipes to freeze. We have pipes that go under the house. We did notice that some of the floor tiles in the house were colder to stand on than others. He checked the unit, said that the rust he saw was normal and that it happens after 5-6 months of having the unit because the metal gets wet. He didn't think we needed to replace the a/c unit in the house at all. He fixed the problem with the leak outside and changed the caps. He was here for about 1 hour and charged $117. He said it was highly suspicious when I told him THREE people from the same company came out.

Last Monday morning, we awoke and felt that the house was warm and we could not get our compressor to start. My husband called at 7:30 am and they said they would be out between 9-10 am, however, at 8:30 am the technician called and said he would be there shortly. He found that our drain line had clogged, partially due to the way it had been installed by another company. He re-built and re-configured the pipe and checked the system throughly to be sure it was working properly before he left. In all, he was at our home for an hour and a half.

I was very impressed with all aspects of the installation. The sales person (Hans) was very helpful and didn't pressure for a sale or try to sell the most expensive unit. They took care of their permits. The installation was very smooth, they showed up promptly and finished within a reasonable amount of time. Two installers were sent to complete the job. Code enforcement showed up during the installation and they spoke with them and took care of dealing with the inspector. They called to follow up a few days after the installation to make sure the heat was tested and working. The day of the inspection they came out to post the permit and checked to make sure all the items were installed correctly. One of the best experiences with a South Florida contractor and I would DEFINITELY recommend using them. For the peace of mind, it's even worth paying a little more over another contractor estimate.

I obtained bids from four companies based upon reports on Angie's List and the Better Business Bureau. I chose AAA Modern Air because of the professionalism of the salesman and the fact that their bid was $800 less than the other bid that I received for the identical system that I wanted. Their work throughout the whole process from sale to final inspection was nothing less than excellent.

Overall, they have done a great job. I am still "tweaking" the air flow for the master bedroom and bath, but they are returned twice to get the job done right.

We called AAA Modern Air and they do maintenance contracts and could come out the morning my husband was available. The serviceman checked the unit, performed some maintenance and gave us a contract. The cost was less than we had paid before!
