A Thru Z Appliance Service LLC

After a power surge while the dryer was running, it damaged the dryer and we called A thru Z for repairs, we have used them before, he did not fix the issue the first time, and for this issue on the dryer not working, he came and just tried to replace parts that are not necessary, one thing he said he needs to replace the sensor and then said the motor needs a replacement for $450.00, then he ran out and we tried to call him for the sensor and he said that he threw it out and got really nasty on us and cancelled the service call. We called Sears and they came right out the next day and said that it was just the fuse that was blown, nothing wrong with the motor at all. A Thru Z was not doing the troubleshooting instead they are just replacing parts until it works. If it doesn't work then they will advise that they can't fix the problem, and that would be after they have cost you more than what is necessary.

I lucked out and he was near my area already for another job. From the time I called him he was at my house within and hour. Immediately diagnosed the issue with the fridge, cooled down the compressor enough to work on it and replaced some relays. He told me the two things that could happen next, one sound would mean it worked and the other would mean dead compressor and at that point I will need to start researching new fridges. Part worked, fridge is working again. He cleaned up after himself and put the fridge back and was out of here. Pretty awesome.

He's quick to respond, reliable and knows his business. I asked what else he repaired and he does all kitchen & laundry repairs. HE answers his own cell phone!!!

This provider was paid $309.23 for refrigerator repairs that were not successful. He provided us with a written warranty on his repair work. He returned to our residence once, admitted that he had not repaired the refrigerator, but said he did not know what else to do to fix the appliance.
We have spent the past month manually defrosting the refrigerator every 2-3 days when the freezer ices. We have lost over $125 of food due to a warm food-storage compartment. We have spent an additional $250 on parts and invested countless hours of time researching and working on the refrigerator.
Mr. Velilla (owner/technician d/b/a A Thru Z Appliance) has refused to honor his warranty. We have filed a BBB complaint against him, and will pursue legal action if necessary. It is deceptive, dishonest and not right for a business to charge for full repair when the work is not successful or effective and, in fact, makes the original problem worse, particularly when the business guarantees the work in writing and on its website. I assume that this is a common practice for Mr. Velilla, so hopefully, this feedback will protect others from hiring this business in the future.


UPDATE ON January 6, 2016:

We have mailed multiple copies of letters dated December 8, 2015, December 20, 2015, and January 5, 2016, to Mr. Gabriel Velilla at both his business and home addresses. All letters have been mailed by both First Class U.S. Mail and Certified U.S. Mail. Mr. Velilla refused to sign for correspondence mailed to him by Certified Mail, Return Receipt Requested.

As of Jan. 6, 2016, we have received no communication of any nature from Mr. Velilla or his business (or any representative of Mr. Velilla or his business) in response to our correspondence or in response to complaints filed against Mr. Velilla and his business with the Better Business Bureau and AngiesList on December 22, 2015 and December 27, 2015, respectively.


UPDATE ON January 7, 2016:

Due to Mr. Velilla's continued avoidance of this issue and his failure to respond to us in any fashion, our foreseeable damages are escalating over time. He has been so informed multiple times in our letters, to which he refuses to respond. Consequently, we can no longer settle this matter for $309.23 (refund of money paid for his failed service). In addition to that money paid, our damages include the value of lost food items resulting from his failed work (approx. $125), the additional costs to finally repair our refrigerator after Mr. Velilla's failed attempts (approx. $250), and legal fees and costs (TBD), and any settlement of this matter will require Mr. Velilla's payment of those amounts. Any of our prior statements or suggestions implying that this matter can be settled solely by Mr. Velilla's refunding the $309.23 paid, are hereby withdrawn.

Gabriel was very prompt and did a same day job (showed up within 2 hours of being called) on a refrigerator that was no longer cooling.  He was knowledgeable at identifying the problem and had no trouble performing the repair.

Super.  I have been depending on Gabriel for 5 years.  This time my dish washer had not been cleaning properly and had been making grinding noise.  Gabriel ran the dishwasher and listened to it.  He told me the pump was bad and it would cost about $300.00 to repair; he then told me there were other issues with the dish washer and it would be better to replace, not repair.
 This is the second time he has told me to replace, not repair.  About 3 years ago I phoned him to arrange for him to come fix my front loading washing machine as it had been making noises.  He had me turn on the washing machine and he listened to it.  He told me the bearings were bad it would cost almost as much to fix as to replace.  He suggested I replace.
Gabriel has also replaced the ice maker in my fridge and cleaned the lint out of my dryer.  His prices are in line with the area averages.
I highly recommend A Thru Z Appliance Service for friendliness, reliability, professionalism and price.

This is the second time I have used Gabriel from A thru Z Appliance service for work on my refrigerator.  I couldn't have been any more pleased with his professionalism, knowledge and pleasant demeanor.  He was able to get the needed parts quickly and return in timely manner to complete the work

I would highly recommend A Thru Z Appliance Service. Our washer went out Friday evening and we called several Appliance repair companies first thing Saturday morning. Gabriel, the owner, answered the phone directly so I did not have to leave a message or wait for a callback. He was in the area for another service call and let me know he could stop by after completing that call and, indeed he arrived to evaluate our situation in about 1/2 hr.
Gabriel was very knowledgeable of our washer and was able to diagnose the situation quickly. He did have to leave to pick up the pump but returned shortly with the part and had the machine functioning shortly after he returned.
At all times Gabriel acted professionally, efficiently and communicated well.

Went smoothly and efficiently. Gabriel methodically checked out why the clothes was not working - and saw that the electrical outlet was the issue. Saw minute arching on one electrical prong. we certainly overlooked it. He went and got the ne electrical items needed and came back to install them for us without any additional trip charge, first thing the very next day.

We came home from a trip to find that the refrigerator had not been working for several days. I found A Thur Z Appliance Service on Angie's List. He had been to our house once before several yrs ago. I called him by 8:15AM the next morning. He asked me questions as to size and age of the appliance. He told my what his service fee would be to look at it. I agreed to the terms. He was there by 9:15 AM. When he arrived he took a quick look and showed me the part in question. He said he had the part on the truck and gave me a price. By 10AM the repair was finished and the refrigerator was running correctly again.

Quick troubleshooting, had the part in the truck. Pleasant and professional.

I called Gabriel 7am on a Saturday, and left a message that my refrigerator wasn't cooling. He was here in my home by 8:30am, diagnosed and replaced the overload relay and cleaned the coils. While he was here, I mentioned that I had bought a new fill valve for the icemaker, but just hadn't installed it yet. He offered to install that for me too while he was here, and didn't charge extra! Such a nice birthday present for me!
Gabriel was prompt, professional, courteous and I suspect he even left my house cleaner than it was when he arrived. I will definitely call him in the future should I need appliance repair.

I contacted A Thru Z about 4:30pm on a Saturday and was advised they might not be able to make it till
Monday, but would try for Sunday if at all possible (seems there was a family occassion with forty people involved).
I said not to worry and they showed about 8 a.m. Monday and he quickly identified the problem as a short in the circuit board to the fridge. He made a quick trip to pick up the part and the refrigerator was running in less then an hour.
What I liked was that this was a small business and they have been doing this type of work for many years. Friendly, responsive and he even lowered his price saying that I shouldn't have had to wait, even for a Sunday.
1st rate all the wait, highly recommended. Got his phone # on my fridge:)

We first called because the change filter light was lit. We had just bought the house and had no manual for the fridge. Gabriel told my husband over the phone how to change it which we did. We were very impressed by the free advice but the next day, the fridge was making a lot of noise so we called again. Gabriel was in the area and said he'd be right over. He quickly diagnosed the problem, had all the parts on the truck, and fixed the fridge within a half hour, explaining to us everything he was doing. He will definitely be our repairmen in our new neighborhood.

My nearly new washer died on Saturday (nearly empty, Thank god). He was here just after 7:30 on Monday and fixed it along with my ice maker which had died several months ago. Wow!
