Description of Work: I don't know how to rate Keith Roofing. I had a sudden and huge leak during a heavy,three day rainstorm. They came out promptly but could not find the source of the leak. They told me instead that I needed a full replacement of he rear section of my roof. Not their fault--but I had to bail water for 3 days until the rain stopped so that they could begin work. I appreciated that they put me at the front of the line, installed it in a single day (which surprised me) and the new roof did solve the problem. However, I can't help but wonder if it could have indeed been patched (the problem came on so suddenly!). | |The other issue I had was that they were not clear about the terms of payment. They required a certain percentage upfront, which was fine, but I expected that they would send me a bill me for the final work when it was done. As it turned out, they were done in one day and wanted final payment at the end of that day. Not expecting that, I needed a few days to transfer funds around. During that time, I got several calls and emails, as well as a surprise visit from the proprietor's father. Though I paid them by the date I said I would, the experience was a little intimidating. I felt like I was being shaken down. | |Other more minor issues were that they burnt up and ruined the cabling running along the parapet wall which operated my internet and cable TV. I had to get the cable company out to re-run the cables at my expense. They also left approx 40 bricks on my roof which I had carried up there during the rainstorm to hold down tarps (per their recommendation) to mitigate the leak until they could re-roof. I was told by both the owner and the father that they would take them down for me while their crew had all of their long ladders up. Unfortunately, they did not and I had to carry all of the bricks down through my small roof hatch, and down through the house, mud and all--which may seem minor, but I suffer from vertigo.

Description of Work: On time when appt was made. Courteous and provided good pictures and information on what needed to be done. When job was performed all went well. Very efficient. Left no debris behind and cleaned up after themselves. Work has a 2 year guarantee which we liked. Keith did not try to sell us a more expensive possible job and quoted what we asked and an option. We liked his honesty.

However, I believe their charges were very high and would recommend prospective customers to get a second estimate.  + -1 moreCouldn't have been better! Got Mr. Keith on my first call, and he gave me as much time as I needed to explain our history with the roof and the symptoms we were having. He apologized (!) for not being able to come right over, but said he'd work us in the following day to find the problem and give us an estimate. Sure enough, he did (working around our schedules), found the problem(s) quickly, and left photos and an estimate with my wife with instructions that I should call him so he could explain his findings in detail. Long and short, he came to do the work the very next morning, invited me up the ladder to show me what he was going to do, and finished up by giving us a pile of photos documenting his team doing the things we contracted for. The kicker: that Saturday we had a huge storm; Sunday night, he called to make sure that the repair had done the trick. Now, that's service! In every respect, my wife and I give Keith Roofing top marks.
Description of Work: Tracked cause of persistent roof leak and recommended some additional measures to ensure our roof would be worry free. Prepped areas, then installed Firestone 170 APP Modified Bitumen torch down rubber in areas where needed on both main and back addition roof seams, flashings, chimney flashing, and vents.

 + -1 moreThey said that was fine and would start right away and cash the check when I gave them the go ahead. They ended up cashing the check before I gave permission; luckily the money had cleared and the crisis was averted. Unfortunately due to rain, the process went from a day and half job to a 3 day job. The crew was less than professional. At one point, as I was working in the backyard, an empty propane tank blew off the roof and landed nearby. Luckily no one was hurt and nothing was damaged, but that could have been ugly. The crew chief brought his two sons to help with the roofing; (apparently just a summer gig for the boys) they all seemed nice enough, but one of the sons took the opportunity to try to set up an appointment to sell me some cutlery and kitchen supplies; a side gig for him, I guess. I'm thinking: I just spend nearly $6K on a new roof, why would I want you try to peddle me your wares on my front porch? Hugh Jr. & Sr. were much more professional than their crew.
Description of Work: After just purchasing a row house built in 1916, we had to fix the original, flat, metal-tin roof. It was almost rusted through. Keith roofing laid down an insulation board and torched down a rubberoid bitumen over the existing roof. They also replaced the rear drippage. My fianc called Keith roofing for an estimate and within 45 minutes, Hugh Jr. was on our roof, took Polaroid pictures, and left them and a written estimate in our mailbox. That was impressive. When I got home from work, I called to ask questions and both Jr. and Sr. were extremely helpful. They offered to begin within 2 days which was impressive. However, they were not able to process credit cards at the time (they were updating their "system" or something); they could only take checks/cash. That was a problem, and in hindsight I should have waited. I told them that I had to transfer cash from an on line savings account, so it would take 3 business days.

 + -1 moreWhile Mr. Keith was able to quickly come to my house to look at the roof, as well as provide me with an estimate, that was when the responsiveness ceased. After receiving the estimate (as well as getting estimates from two other companies), I was ready to hire Mr. Keith, but as a new homeowner and this being the first time I had to deal with my roof, I had additional questions. On two occasions I left Mr. Keith voice messages, one of which was to indicate I was going to hire him, neither of them were returned. And on the one occasion following the estimate I did speak with Mr. Keith and I asked for a breakout of the costs associated with the work, he made it quite clear that he had more than enough work and because I had reached out to my insurance co, he did not want or need my business. He never provided me the additional information I requested.
Description of Work: I contacted Keith Roofing about some wind damage to my roof. There was a prompt response and they were able to come out to view my roof the next day, at which time I was told the flashing on my roof would need to be replaced. ($2800)

 + -1 moreI think it went well. Workers were responsive and courteous. They had been working in the Capitol Hill neighborhood for a long time and seemed to know what they were doing. Since I know nothing about such things and refuse to get up on my very high roof, the proof for me is no more water damage inside the house. Water damage came back!
Description of Work: This is a family owned business and they did a very professional job on my roof. They also returned several times to check it out-- actually getting up on a ladder and looking. They also sealed off masonry around my house that was causing water damage in addition to the roof Three years later after a major storm, the roof is leaking anywhere and I had to replace the shoddy work they did. They are fast and pushy, but ultimately they did not do a competent job. I would not recommend them!

Description of Work: We had a flat roof that had not been replaced in over 25 years and definitely needed to be replaced. I called Keith Roofing and explained that I would like an estimate for repairs on a flat roof. Immediately an appointment was made. Mr. Keith went to the property made pictures of the roof and showed me exactly where the problem was and explained what needed to be done. His explanation was very clear as to what he was going to do and even telling me that certain things did not have to be done because the roof was basically in good shape. I gave him a deposit on a Friday and that very next Saturday my roof was completed along with pictures showing me the work that had taken place.

 + -1 morePlain and simple, don't bother wasting your time getting a quote from anyone else. I did, and they were all more expensive. Hugh and his son, along with one of the guys on the job (Howard) are all VERY nice, good people, from what I can tell. They were very communicative; no surprises. The job has taken a couple of days longer than projected, but I'd rather have a quality job than have it done fast. This really hasn't been a big deal. I highly recommend Keith Roofing. I guess time will be the ultimate test of how good their work is. But, I'm confident we're in great shape.

Not only was the response time from Keith Roofing quicker than the other contractors, they were willing and able to inspect our roof while we were at work, which allowed us not to have to take paid time off. Hours after the inspection, Keith Roofing provided a reasonable estimate and a start date of the following day. The owner, and his staff reported on time and began work quickly with a estimated completion time of 1 1/2 day. After finding out that the forecast called for rain the next day, Keith contacted my husband to let him know that they would be taking no breaks so that they would be able to complete the job to avoid delay. They not only completed the job, but provided us with before and after pictures and explained exactly what they accomplished. Words cannot express how happy we were with Keith Roofing.
Description of Work: Keith Roofing installed a Firestone rubber roof system on our main flat roof as well as flashings. The installation was overlaid on the existing structure. They also installed a galvanized metal drip edge on the front and beck edges on the roof as well as capped off unused chimney with rubber to prevent leaks.

 + -1 moreVery well, the roof (one month out) is in great shape and has weathered a number of rain events. They have continued to call and check up and make sure, that the roof is in good shape.
Description of Work: Kieth and Company replaced the roof on our 4 story town home in Adams Morgan. This was a flat roof and they had considerable amount of knowledge of townhome/rowhomes, in the Northwest DC area. They immediately responded to our phone call and were not only prompt, but showed up on time and to their commitments. Both owners were on site during the installation and took before and after photos, as well as provided insight into the work being done. Additionally, they came out on site 2 days later, and painted the entrance to the roof for the scuff marks, that had been put in during installation.

 + -1 moreI mean look, no one likes paying thousands of dollars for roof work. We made the mistake of not speaking up with a previous roofer botched the job and we were the ones who wrote the check and didn't get what we paid for. Keith Roofing is the real deal. They are an honest, hard working local company, dealing with Capitol Hill homes and their customer service is unsurpassed. If we have any future problems with the work they did, they will be there to fix it and honor the warranty. They return phone calls and are there when they say they are going to be there. They took Polaroids of the before/after work and stand by their work. I am confident in the job they do and you shouldn't hesitate to work with them.
Description of Work: We'd been dealing with a roofing problem for 4 years and replaced the roof, but still had leaking problems. Mr. Keith was very responsive at a time when the weather was very rainy. He came over for a consultation and gave an estimate. I was surprised it was so high, but we were so exasperated by other attempts to fix the leak, we knew we had to do it. They came the next day and immediately found exactly what the problem was (NOT a skylight issue, like the people who installed the new roof). The previous roofers did a shoddy job with flashing and neglecting to replace a remove a sealed over hatch. The wood underneath was soaked and rotten. They cleaned and replaced everything, removed the hatch, re flashed everything and installed a firestore rubber flashing. They subsequently repaired my ceiling, the level of commitment and customer service I've received has been well worth the cost.

 + -1 moreMr. Keith was extremely responsive. He called me back the same day I called him. He was able to schedule an inspection within a day and I did not have to be home at the time (very helpful to me since I'm at work all day). He presented me with an estimate and approximate time it would take to do the job. He also took Polaroid pictures of the problem areas of the roof so I could see what needed fixing. I signed up the company and it completed the job within another day. The workmanship (again, recorded by Polaroid) seemed good. However, it rained that very night and the leak that was to have been repaired continued to drip unabated. Mr. Keith had his crew out again the following day and expanded the scope of work (no extra charge), promising to stop the leak no matter how often he and his crew had to return. Since then, the roof appears to be rain-tight, though I am awaiting a deluge to test it again before claiming it is "fixed." Even so, this was a good experience.
Description of Work: They installed some Firestone 170 APP Modified Bitumen rubber roofing in an area where it was needed around the flashing of my chimney. Around the flashing walls of roof (coping), and around A/C vents that enter the house through the roof they laid down roofing tar.

Since he was in the neighborhood he was able to stop by my house within the hour and gave me an estimate over the phone and in writing (along with pictures so that I could see what the current roof looked like). Unlike other roofers that we received estimates from, Mr. Keith explained all of their work up-front so you knew exactly what to expect and thoroughly answered all of my questions - there were no surprises. Mr. Keith and team took pictures along the way to document all of their work. Overall, Keith Roofing is very professional and very responsive/accommodating. I would recommend them to anyone looking to install a new flat roof.

He recommended that we put a rubber roof on the sun porch as well as patch any holes in the mortar on the brick wall. He was able to finish the job in an afternoon. Mr. Keith and his crew were very personable and professional. We've had several heavy rains since they have completed their work and haven't had any problems.

I was unable to be home the entire time, but I was updated on the progress of the job by phone calls. I was even given before and after pictures of the roof and the work that was done.
