During an unusual early December snow my husband and I were getting ready to leave and go get a Christmas tree when we heard a dripping in the dining room. Water was leaking from the recessed light fixture. Upon some investigation, it appeared the roof was leaking and the water was running down from the second floor to the first floor dining room ceiling. We called Keith Roofing at the beginning of the next week and they came out to check the roof the next day (and offered to come that day). And miracle of all miracles--they were on time! Which never seems to happen with home repair people in my experience. They checked it out and diagnosed it as flashing that had separated from the roof in a few spots. They started the work at the end of the week and finished it in one day which was nice. The work was high quality and they took pictures of the before and after so we could see what they did. The thing I most appreciated is that at some point we asked them if it made more sense for us to just replace the whole roof and they said no, that these patches would work fine and our roof should last another 5-10 years. I appreciated it because it was certainly an opportunity for them to make more money convincing us to do unnecessary work and they instead were honest and told us to go the less profitable (for them)/more cost effective (for us) route. For that reason alone I will remain a loyal customer and recommend them to others. But I also believe the price was fair and the work with excellent. They were also very punctual, professional and clean--you would never have known they were there, if it weren't for the lack of water dripping from the ceiling.
Description of Work: They repaired and resealed the flashing and patched nail holes in our roof.

They were prompt to the appointment to estimate the job. They performed the service the very next day. They arrived on-site at the time they said they would. They communicated with me throughout the day as promised. They delivered their service as advertised/promised. There were no surprises. All expectations were met. Who could ask for anything more?
Description of Work: Prepared areas where needed on main flat roof of home. Installed Firestone 170 APP modified bitumen rubber on areas where needed on main flat roof. Installed rubber on flashing walls on right side of roof, around flashing of chimney, and also around vents, and edges of roof where needed.

The previous owner of our DC row house has improperly installed a shingled roof on a low slope porch. Eventually water began to seep through the shingles and pour through our porch ceiling. I called Keith and they came out first thing next day. We agreed on a price and they started and finished that very day! A month later we had another leak on the porch which was unrelated to Keith's work, he fixed that problem at no charge on the same day I called. Absolutely top notch customer care, and they are DC residents to boot.
Description of Work: Removed an incorrectly installed and leaky shingled roof on our porch.

We have used them twice and we have been very satisfied with them. Their prices were comparatively reasonable. They came out immediately; they came out so fast that we were worried. They worked with us when it came to the price; they were very accommodating. We were very happy with them. However, they weren?t highly professional. We kept offering them to let their workers to use the restrooms in the house. However, they completely refused to use them, stating that they didn?t want the workers inside the house. However, we found them urinating in front of somebody else?s door. We didn?t like that at all. We will, however, use them again in the future.
Description of Work: We hired Keith Roofing. We used them once for the carriage house, last year. The second time around, they came out when we had a leaky roof. They did the work for us, five months ago.

After seeing a leak from the skylight, I called Keith Roofing, they were there within the hour, examined the problem and quoted a price to fix it. Much more expensive than I anticipated. I found out later that part of the problem was the wrong skylight had been installed before i moved in, which they didn't mention. However I called them back, they said that was true, but their fix would fix it anyway, When I agreed they were at my house the next day and finished in one day. Very friendly and professional - they patched up a couple falling shingles. When I need a new roof I will strongly consider them, but still check for others who may be cheaper.
Description of Work: They fixed the leak in coming from my skylight, and patched up the other skylight and vent so they would leak. Re-bonded the skylight with the roof, using bituman (?) rubber to connect the flashing to my roll roofing.

Excellent! I had asked Mr. Keith for an estimate a few months back and called in October to go ahead with the work. He had a crew at my house the next day (literally) and was finished by the time I got home from work. And he guarantees the work. I would definitely use them again.

Working with Keith Roofing was a pleasure. From the estimate, to roof work, and follow-up Keith Roofing was very professional and provided exceptional service. During the estimate process Hugh Keith took pictures of the areas of the roof that needed wok, and explained what was needed to be done and why. On the day of the job his team showed up at the agreed to time, completing the work ahead schedule. He took additional pictures of the completed work and reviewed the results with me. The price he charged was a good value. I'm extremely pleased with the results. I will definitely use this company again.

It is difficult to say how pleased I was with our service from Keith Roofing! From the very beginning, every phone call and interaction was respectful, courteous and punctual. The last one is particularly important when I have to sneak out of work for the appointments. The original estimate was performed without my supervision, with Polaroid photos and detailed descriptions of the work, along with a price quote. Recommendations were made for "critical", "worthwhile" and "nice to have" priorities, and all the information was included with a soft sell -- "Let us know if you have any questions and if you would like to schedule the work to be done." A week later, we finally decided to get the work done now. We searched more contractors, and we agreed we were in full trust of Keith's recommendations and quality of work (largely due to other postings!). We called to schedule a work date, and was pleased to find the next day available to complete ALL the work! While the work was being performed, I was getting called for regular updates, a few expected decisions (which we discussed previously), and more polaroids were taken of the work that was performed. After the job was done, Mr. Keith followed up multiple times to ensure everything was fine. In fact, he called again after the first thunderstorms to make sure everything was satisfactory. He even came out to double-check on something I had some questions about, but was totally fine. We are so glad we did the work when we did with Keith Roofing -- we took advantage of a break in the weather prior to serious thunderstorms and slept soundly knowing the work was done well! Will definitely recommend and use them again (although hopefully we won't ever have to, but just choose to!)
Description of Work: Performed review of roof leaks and related work that could be done. Provided free estimate, with detailed photos! and accessibility to discuss the suggested work. Upon scheduling the work, team completed all the tasks in one day, and provided photos of the work being done and upon completion. Repeated follow-up to ensure satisfaction, both after the work was done and after a subsequent thunderstorm.

The overall two projects went very smoothly and quickly.
Description of Work: Mr. Keith's company is pretty amazing. In the summer this year when we had tons of rain we were having leaking in our basement. I called and they came out that day, replaced very old gutters that were up high and also sealed a basement window and put some sort of sealer on the brick near the window. The price was $5,000 which seemed high but it was worth it to get everything done quickly and efficiently the same day as the rains were continuing to pour down and more damage would have been caused if we had to wait very long. Then today, Oct. 19, Mr. Keith came out again because we had some leakage of water down the wall in our stairwell. This company had come out two years ago and put on a new part of our roof, however, this new leak was caused by another smaller area that had not been worked on then. Mr. Keith took photos and put some sealant on the area that he determined was causing the leak and he also pushed back two slate tiles on another part of our roof that he noticed were sliding. This took about 30 minutes but they did not charge us anything to do this work. Probably the only free lunch or work we've ever had done! The company is very professional and we highly recommend them.

The wet spot has since turned into an open gap with threads of sheet rock paper hanging down and I (if home) just run and put pans down (when it is raining) to catch the leak...that is now, turned into several leaks along the ceiling...as the area has grown in size. I am not interested in prolonging this unhappy and unsolved situation with "Keith Roofing". To add salt to my injury, I now have to seek legal assistance in order to have the funds returned in order to get the work done correctly, as to not incur more water damage to my home. Angie's List did what they could and I will pursue this through other avenues. I know I just had a roof put on and when the spot appeared, I panicked. I know now that since the exact same spot is still leaking, it was not the roof. I also know that it would not have cost me $2500 to fix the siding leak. By the way, I do not have a cat or any pet except goldfish. UPDATE: It is unfortunate that at 64 years of age and in retirement, that I have had to pay dearly (both financially and emotionally) for the lesson "ALWAYS, GET MORE THAN ONE COMPANY'S OPINION" on the work you may "THINK" you need!! Since my initial report, the sheet rock in the ceiling when it rained, kept coming down and black mold had started forming. Having had two new roofs put on and with this problem continuing to exist in this one area, that had now spread closer to the fan in the ceiling (no longer just a spot on the ceiling), I knew I had to take action and not keep waiting for "Mr. Keith" to do the right thing and resolve this nightmare. I started by taking my neighbor's advice and had someone to inspect the siding in the area where the "second" new roof was put on by "Keith Roofing", only to be told that I needed some minor sealing in the siding along the sidewall of the roof. Permission was given for the the sealing of the siding. I have waited now through several rain and snow storms in order to be fair in this last report update.....NO MORE LEAKING......in this very SAME SPOT that I had called "Keith Roofing" about initially, though what had been just a "WET SPOT" in the ceiling is now in need of water and ceiling damage repair!! OBVIOUSLY, the first roof job was fine, it was the siding that had loosen, that had caused that wet spot. Mr. Keith, not only did you misdiagnose the problem about my needing another new roof and took my money under false pretense, you haven't "prevented" me from now having to go through the messy and dusty ordeal of re-doing my new ceiling (which is why I panicked when I saw that wet spot and called you...in the first place). You refuse to give me back my money and now, I must spend more money in order to hire someone to re-do a section of my ceiling,....."all"...has happened due to my panick of a wet spot, turning into a leak that would ruin my new ceiling and you wanting to get started the next morning and get paid that same afternoon, we may have realized...I did not need another new roof!! SHAME ON YOU, "Keith Roofing"!!
Description of Work: I had previously had a new roof put on this very small porch off from one of the bedrooms. During a rainy day, there were two wet spots that had me worried that appeared on the ceiling below the roof. I could not reach the roof repairer, the telephone number that I had for them was no longer a working number. A friend told me about "Angie's List". I selected "Keith Roofing" from the list and gave them a call. I was told by Mr. H. Keith (the owner) after, he inspected the roof, that he would be able to solve my problem "right away"! (having just gone through the messy ordeal of the sanding and all the dust to replace the ceiling with new sheet rock...I didn't want the small wet spots to get worst..and have to relive the first nightmare) Thus, I was happy to know, that the work would be done right away! He told me, by removing the present roofing material (even though it had not been long put down) and replacing it with his "better" guaranteed roofing material...I would not have to worry anymore, for years to come. The work was started as planned in a timely fashion and within a few hours the work was completed and I paid the owner at the completion of the work...the same day. A week later, while it was raining, there was a larger wet spot but,...this time, with water leaking from the same area in the ceiling. I called Mr. Keth and he came back out to check the leaking and put some roofing compound to stop the leak. Several weeks later while raining, the wet spot became larger and started to leak even more. I called them again and Mr Keith came out and asked, "if maybe my dog had gone to the bathroom on the floor and caused the floor to be wet"! I don't even have a dog! This type of foolish responses and futile attempts to stop the leak, continued on...two or more times, with having Mr. Keith to come back to fix the same leaking probem, with no relief of the problem.

Response from Keith Roofing
We had been contacted by this member for an estimate. When we came to her home she showed us the area she was having problems with at her home.Where the leak was occurring was in an area of her home where a number of things join together, the back addition roof, the back and side wall of her home which has siding and a number of windows, also there is a door that walks out onto the roof with a rod iron gate. After inspecting this area of the home we saw it could be a number of issues that could be the reason for water leaking into the home, one issue was with the way the back flat roof was previously installed by another company, as you can see this member mentioned in her report. By request of the owner we figured up an estimate to install a new flat roof on the back addition roof. The owner agreed to the estimate and contracted us to begin the work.We scheduled the work to begin the next day,and the owner advised us that she would not be paying for this work her friend, who was a electrician and was more familiar with roofing would be paying for the job and inspecting the work.We explained we did not have a problem with that and agreed to be paid by her friend when the work was completed. The next day we brought our trucks and men and installed a new roof on the back addition, after the work was completed, the owners friend met with us and inspected the new roof we installed and was very pleased with the work, he then paid us with a check from his electrician company. About a week later the homeowner called us to say that she came home and found a small puddle on her floor in her home,we then asked her was her ceiling wet or dripping water in that area, and she said her ceiling was not, it was dry. Because the homeowner had a cat we asked being that the ceiling was dry is it possible your cat had wet on the floor, She said no, so we came out to her home to inspect the roof. We had installed a new roof and did not find any problems with it but, where the roof is located as I mentioned before was by a number of windows and siding along with a doorway. We explained to the owner that because the new roof was installed and had no problems the leak must be coming from somewhere on the windows or siding and running into her home, and even though the problem was not with the roof we installed, we would try and seal up some of those areas for her which we did. About 3 weeks later she called us again to say her ceiling seemed damp, and that her friend would meet us the next day to unlock her back gate to allow us access to the back of her home and show us what was wrong. He then inspected the roof with us and he being familiar with roofing did not see any problems with the roof we installed, but we showed him some of the problems with the siding and doorway and windows. We then tried to seal up those areas for the owner as a favor. About a month later we were called again by this owner and met with her friend at the home and then sealed up the window frames on the back wall that had cracks and openings,we then had not heard back from this member for over six months. Then one day a person called us claiming to be an attorney representing this member, she called very angry using very foul language to let us know this members home recently had some water leaking in her home. We then explained that this was the first we heard of water still leaking in. We thought when we had sealed up her windows as a favor 6 months back had fixed the problem, she had not called since then. We then told the person claiming to be an attorney that we would come back to the home to check it out for the owner, but she would need to have someone there to let us in the back of the house because there is a large gate that needs to be unlocked. She said the owner would be calling us back, but we did not hear from her at all, despite us calling her and leaving messages. We then sent her a letter both by regular mail and registered mail letting her know we will come back and check out her problem but she must contact us to let us know when we can come by and she will open the gate. But we never have heard back from her or the person claiming to be her attorney for months, then just recently she posted this report.I am really puzzled by all this, we have went out of our way to help this member, and you can see by all our other reports we don't get complaints about the kind of work we do or how we treat our customers. The problem is not with the roof we installed but, with her siding, and we are willing to help her but, she must communicate with us and return our calls. My experience was excellent. I called 3 different companies for bids. Keith not only had a knowledgeable person answer the phone, but had an estimator at the site within 45 minutes of my call. One of the other companies called me back to schedule an estimator 2 weeks after Keith had the job done. Hugh Keith was the client contact person and he did a great job of communicating throughout the job including leaving pictures of progress that was made while I was at work. He also did a final walk through of the project with me and assured that all lawn furniture that had been moved was back in its proper place. My experience was great.

I appreciated that they provided before and after pictures of the work on our roof. Because they were working in the neighborhood, they were able to work us in and have the work done on the same day. I also liked that the owner followed up two weeks later to see if there was anything we needed him to do and if the there were any problems. I got 2 responsive estimates, both from highly rated firms on the List. They were very close in price. Keith Roofing lowered price to give 5% off price listed above and had been in the business for 40 years, so I went with them. Their speed is astonishing. Company rep. (Hugh Keith, Jr.) arrived to estimate within an hour or two of request and company did the job early the morning after receiving the order. They even called to apologize when they were going to be 10 minutes late!! These guys are very conscientious and I noticed that their equipment seemed clean and well-maintained.
Description of Work: This is an update, about 14 months after the job described below. I called Keith back to fix a recurring problem with the hole where the A/C goes into the roof. The answer immediately, they call back, the come quickly. No charge. They treated me like I was a new, prospective customer. These guys are really good. The company performed necessary maintenance on my townhouse and garage roofs -- flashing, the usual repairs, and a new reflective coating.

Keith Roofing was terrific -- very responsive and best estimate we received. When we initially called for an estimate, they came over the same day. Hugh Keith Jr got on the roof of our 3-story house, took a slew of polaroids to shows us the condition, and gave a very detailed estimate and explanation of the fixes we needed. Two weeks later when we called to schedule the job, they were able to work us in the same week, and completed the entire job in one very long day because they were worried about the weather delaying them if they didn't do so. Our roof had not been serviced in more than a decade, when it was supposed to have been treated every 4-5 yrs. They patched holes in the bitumen cap, scraped it clean of the little remaining aluminum paint, and repainted the whole thing. They also flashed some chimneys that hadn't been properly done by the previous owner. Hugh took additional photos while they were working and afterward, and carefully explained the work that had been performed. They also gave us a 5% Angie's discount :)

I found Keith Roofing here on the list, called and they came by the next day. The house's original roof was getting leakier and leakier. I had done some internet research so I had an expectation of cost for this big of a job. Mr Keith looked at the roof, answered my list of questions and made suggestions for the best way to go. The price came in right in the middle of my research estimate so there was no sticker shock. They took a partial payment until I could shift money from savings but began the work the next day. Within 48 hours I had a new roof (Firestone membrane with 1/2 inch of insulation board below). After months of fretting and worrying, my roof was repaired pronto. Everyone on the crew was friendly and professional. Mr Keith has come back to adjust three little things since the big job, the roof hatch was stuck and he freed it up, there have been two places that leaked again and he had his crews there within hours of my call and fixed the problem. I couldn't ask for more in the way of customer service, quality work and professionalism. I have and will continue to recommend Keith Roofing to others.

We just recently bought a 1937 rowhouse in DC, and were told by the home inspector that the first thing we should take care of was the roof, which had been badly neglected for the last ten years or so. Both Mr. Keiths (Jr. and Sr.) came out to give us a quote on the day after I called them. Not only did they take pictures of the roof, they also took me up there so I could see for myself what they were talking about. The were very thorough and proposed to do all of the things the home inspector had suggested to us. Other companies were much less thorough and didn't notice or comment on many of the smaller details. Once I called Keith Roofing back to do the work, they came the next day again and completed the work in the time frame they estimated (basically one morning, with three people working on the roof). They even installed some insulation I had purchased for the A/C refrigerant line while they were up on the roof, with no extra charge. They were not the cheapest estimate we received, but the other companies we looked at did not propose to do as much work to shore up our neglected roof. Mr. Keith also gave us a warranty on his work, and was very specific about what materials he would be using.
Description of Work: Replaced several missing slates, repaired flashing between mansard and flat roof, repaired a poorly sealed pitch pocket, installed proper flashing on 2 skylights, and coated the entire bitumen roof with sealant.

Very well. Keith was very flexible in arranging a time for a visit and quotation. He went onto the roof, took pictures and provided a detailed work breakdown. Keith was able to schedule the work very quickly -- this was very nice given an existing leak and impending rain! Extremely timely. Very easy to talk with. Did a great job communicating the situation, quotation and progress on the job.

They weren't the cheapest, but they were the most thorough of all the people who came out for estimates. They were also very professional.

Found Keith Roofing on the List. I called Mr Keith up--he was very professional and pleasant to talk to. We scheduled a time on short notice to remove the old gutters, and install new wide gutters. He came with his crew, told me what the work would entail, and quoted a reasonable price. After a few months, I realized that there was a slight seam that was allowing water to get in behind the gutter, and was dripping from the fascia board. When I called Mr Keith, I was able to schedule a quick appointment, and fix the seam that was allowing the minor water seepage. No hassle, no charge.
Description of Work: Gutters, downspouts, repatch/rebuild back 1/5 of the roof.
