+ -1 moreOur roof peeled back in a storm on Saturday. We called Keith on Monday morning and he came out that same day to give us an estimate. Our insurance company approved it Tuesday morning and we faxed it back to Keith that day. When we got home from work on Tuesday evening, he already had workers on the roof starting the repair. They finished the next day. We couldn't have asked for an easier experience.
Description of Work: Our roof, including the brick parapet was pulled up in a storm. The repair included relaying the brick and installing a new rubber roof over approximately 300 sq. ft.

+ 0 moreAfter my roof sprang multiple leaks this spring, I called Keith Roofing out for an estimate. They had a digital camera and a printer, and came back with not just the estimate but photos detailing exactly where the problems were -- which is incredibly valuable since most people will never actually see their roof and usually have to take estimates/diagnoses on faith. I had also asked them to look at an old problem on a different part of the house that I had had a couple of roofers previously look at. In that case, nobody before had given me a convincing recommendation of what was needed, and Keith was the first company to give me an explanation and recommendation that made sense. When I called and gave them the go-ahead, they were there the next day with a crew, and worked a full day. At the end of the day they gave me another set of photos detailing the work they'd done. The roof hasn't leaked since. They gave me a one-year warranty, a nice touch on top of everything else, and definitely another sign that these guys are real pros who have confidence in their work.
Description of Work: Keith Roofing repaired old-style built in gutters on my row house, and repaired leaking areas in multiple areas of the roof.

+ -1 moreThis is the third time we've contracted with Keith roofing - first to repair, scrape, and repaint our bitumen rubber roof (including repairing flashing in several spots), second to fix a dormer, and third to repair our covered gutters. Each time, they have come out promptly & completed the work promptly as well. In this particular occasion, they were able to take care of the work the same day as the estimate, which was super convenient because I was already working from home that day. As always, they've pointed out what they're doing along the way to make sure I understand the work that's being done. In this case, they also pointed out where my neighbor's side of the gutter needed repair (we live in a row house) and how it could cause damage to our part of the gutter if it wasn't taken care of, which was useful to know. Since then (a few weeks later), we noticed that one of our downspouts somehow broke and the bottom third of it was missing. We called to see if they could take a look, and they came by the next day and replaced the broken downspout free of charge. (Please note that this was not a matter of fixing an error on their part, but of providing an additional service) We will continue to work with Keith Roofing for all of our roofing/gutter/etc needs.
Description of Work: The covering on our gutters was no longer secure, allowing water to overflow & seep into the brick wall, causing water spots & a potential for future damage in the ceilings & walls of interior rooms. Keith Roofing removed the metal coverings & replaced them with bitumen rubber, as well as resealing/improving the seals between the gutters and the house.

+ -1 moreThe problem with the gutters was evident since January, but it was during the recent Spring rains that I was reminded of the issue. All Roofers are always busy when there is a lot of rain and I couldn't honestly say that my gutters were a priority, I simply wanted to get the task off my "to do" list while the rain was reminding me of it, otherwise I would forget when the sun came out. so I called Keith roofing in the middle of a downpour and left a message. My message indicated that I didn't consider the gutters an emergency like a roof leak but I wanted them to call me when they had time. Hugh Keith, Jr. called back the very next morning and offered to come look at the job while on his way to another location. He was able to assess the task, provide a quote, and get a team to get the gutter re-hung the very next day. From start to finish, Hugh's communication with me was excellent, timely, and professional. The job went smoothly and the work was completed much earlier than I had expected. I HIGHLY recommend Keith Roofing.
Description of Work: Gutters that had been pulled away from the roof by the snows this winter were re-attached.

+ -1 moreOur roof was partly blown off and backwards during a Friday with extremely high winds in DC. Keith Roofing was the only company that was willing to come over to our house and see the damage on a Saturday. Hugh Keith took his time checking the roof and then sat with us and explained what had to be done. Once we got our check from the insurance company we settled on a starting day. The work was performed on the day selected and on time. Hugh Keith himself was there the majority of the day overseeing the work. I myself was home that day and went up to the roof 4-5 times to see how things were going and Hugh had no problem explaining what was being done and how it was being done. I am very happy with my new roof. I feel an amazing new sense of security knowing I don't have to worry about my roof and I would recommend Keith Roofing to anyone.
Description of Work: Keith roofing replaced the entire insulation and rubber roof on my Capitol Hill Home as well as rebuilding my flue/chimney. A new skylight was also installed. Hugh Keith himself was courteous and professional throughout the process. The work was completed on time and I am very satisfied with the job.

+ -1 moreAfter noticing a leak in the join of our back bedroom (formerly a porch) with the main house, we contacted Keith Roofing (having seen their excellent reviews on Angie's List). Mr. Keith came over w/in a couple of days and examined the roof, taking pictures and printing them immediately through some device so we could see what was going on up there. He pointed out a few holes in the roof cover and some shoddily done finishing work, as well as a significant gap in the coverage on the lip of the roof. He gave us two options, one simply to patch up the roof and a second to redo it completely. He said that if we elected just to patch the roof the entire balance would be applied towards the redo, if we did it w/in 3 years. We decided to redo it completely. We were in somewhat of a rush, as we are being stationed overseas soon, and Keith Roofing pulled together a team to come over the day after we executed the agreement. They got the work done in one day. I was impressed with their professionalism and courtesy, and while we're no experts at judging roofing work, so far so good! It looks great, neat and clean. We wholeheartedly recommend this company.
Description of Work: We had the rubber on the roof completely redone and some repair work done on a lip of the roof which was improperly joined.

+ -1 moreI called Keith Roofing (on Angie's List) on a Thursday evening when I noticed a leak from a skylight over my bed during a very heavy rain. I would be traveling very early the next day. Mr. Keith returned my call and said they could not come until Monday and would call me then. I moved the bed and lined up 4 trash cans... On Monday he called at 8 AM and said they could be at my house by 9. They arrived on time. This father and son company has been in DC for some years. They work together but also employ other workers. They used ladders to get to the roof which meant they did not have to come into the house to use the hatch that leads to the roof. They evaluated the source of a leak as well as sources of potential leaks on the roof and took pictures of problem areas. I was shocked by the poor quality of repairs and work done on the roof previously. They made recommendations that the problem skylight be replaced; explained why; showed me the materials that would be used in installation and sealing of the skylight and for the additional repairs on the roof; prepared an estimate, and discussed the work in detail. I did not get an itemized listing for the bill. They completed the work that day and took pictures of the completed work. The before and after differences were significant. Mr. Keith called the next day as a followup in case I had any questions. One drawback was that they required checks only for the work; no credit cards. I was very pleased with the entire experience. We'll see what happens with the next hard rain...

They were very professional and efficient, showed up on time and even finished the job early. They were a pleasure to work with and I wouldn't hesitate to contact them again if necessary. The work was exemplary and well documented. I've had no problems with leaks since they replaced my roof. I actually did contact Keith Roofing again recently when my gutter blew off my house during the recent windstorm in Feb 2011. The guys responded to my call promptly and came out to take a look at the job. It was a pretty simple repair to put the gutter back on the house. They finished it within the hour and gave me a great rate since I was a prior customer. I heartily recommend Keith Roofing for all your roof and gutter needs.

Description of Work: We cannot recommend Keith & Company for roof repair highly enough -- an excellent, professional operation that exceeded our expectations. When a leak broke through our son’s ceiling, we decided, after 20 years, we needed major repairs. I called a one-man operation that had done minor patching around a skylight several years ago; his estimate was in the five figures, so I decided to get some competitive bids. Where to look? I joined Angela’s List! Keith & Company topped the list of Washington roofers. They came to our house within 24 hours. After his workers surveyed my roof, Mr. Keith gave me five 3x5 photographs of the several problems they found, together with detailed explanations of each, and -- in writing -- how they could be repaired. His estimate was within several hundred dollars of the previous quote, and I did not hesitate signing his contract. They were on the job within several days -- and replaced our roof in one day. All accumulated debris on my 30’ x40’ flat roof (leaves, moss, weeds, gravel, old tar paper) was bagged and carried away. During the repairs (installation of insulation board under a Firestone bitumen rubber roof system, plus galvanized metal drip edges) Mr. Keith showed me 12 photographs as the work progressed. We were impressed with how Mr. Keith (and his son) supported their crew and how their men worked constantly -- even when he and his son were absent. They continued working until well after dusk. I will gladly discuss this by phone (202-537-0711) and share the photographs with anyone interested. This is an exceptional, first class operation. Update: Keith Roofing replaced our roof several months ago and did an excellent job -- I submitted an "excellent" report to Angie's List to this effect. I am now pleased to report they have gone "above and beyond" Excellent. While my wife and I were visiting our daughter in India during January 2011, we received an e-mail from a neighbor advising a large tree limb had fallen on our roof. She suggested this should be removed, as more damage might occur if left in place during recurring snow storms. We authorized her to hire her tree company to do so and, when we returned, the branch had been removed. The tree company subsequently advised me they had seen no damage to our roof. However, I called Keith Roofing -- just to be reassured. They came, owner and his son, the next day, found there were, in fact, at least two damages that needed repair, and proceeded to do so -- WITHOUT CHARGE! Mr.Keith was obviously motivated to stand behind his work -- even though he was not at all responsible for subsequent damages -- and to see that we, his customers, were not inconvenienced in any way. Fabulous company! I recommend them without reservation.

On the following Monday (a holiday), Mr. Keith came out to give me an estimate and was able to fix multiple leaks that were found on the roof and chimney, before the snow came. Mr. Keith was very professional, calling before he came with an estimated time of arrival. He took pictures of the roof before and after the job was completed. I did not give an A for price because I have nothing to compare it with. But, given Mr. Keith's integrity, I am sure the price was very fair. I would definitely use Mr. Keith again.

+ -1 moreHugh Keith, Jr. was prompt in returning my initial call and we agreed to scheduling a time to talk in greater depth for the following week. After the 2nd call, Keith Roofing came out, checked the bedroom ceiling, and went up on the roof to look for culprits. Hugh Jr., provided me with photos of all the areas he observed and thought were troublesome along with an estimate for doing the work. Despite my heavy travel schedule which kept me out of town on and off for the next 3 weeks, when I called Keith Roofing to do the job, I got a green light. We scheduled a time. They arrived early on the 10th equipped with camera and printer to show work as it progressed and the final product. Hugh Sr., who came out for the estimate, also was present to watch the work being done. He was very good in pointing out and explaining to me the work being done and showing me the product being used to repair the seams in my gutter. They both were very good about answering whatever questions I had, thoroughly and honestly. While they were working on the gutters, they also checked the overall condition of my roof and made other repairs (nothing major) to ensure I had a good tight seal for this coming winter. And they didn't add new charges for the extra repairs! When they finished there was no evidence that I'd had any work done - no debris, remnants, nothing left behind. I was totally surprised, yet quite appreciative, of the follow-up call I received from Hugh Jr., checking that the repairs were holding in the aftermath of a couple of isolated rain days. Needless to say I'm very pleased with the professionalism, quality of work, and level of customer service I recieved from Keith Roofing and I would not hesitate to use them again! I have every confidence that my water problems are resolved and Keith Roofing is the company to address any new problems that may arise.
Description of Work: From the heavy snow of Winter 2010, I had a leak that created a water stain across the ceiling of one of my bedrooms and I experienced snowflakes falling through a bathroom skylight. Keith Roofing's inspection showed that my problems were due to the weight of the snow in my gutters and on my skylight. The snow's weight (and poor soldering) caused my gutters' seams to come apart and water worked its way into the bedroom through the broken seams. Keith Roofing overlapped the product applied to the seams to ensure that water couldn't find its way back into the house, even if their seam gave way (which they would come back out and repair, if necessary!). They made certain that at every point where new or existing product met, they created a generous heat-sealed seam. And Hugh Keith, Jr., applied a thick bead of silicone caulk around my bathroom skylight to reestablish a seal - nearly as good as the factory seal - that had given way from the weight of the snow.

+ -1 moreAs part of an estimate for putting in a skylight and roof hatch in our rowhouse, Hugh Keith from Keith and Co found areas of our 10-year-old rubber roof that needed repair. This included a large area where the wind had detached the rubber from the front edge of the roof. We decided to get the roof repairs finished first. I was provided printed-out photos of the problem areas before work began. The service was very, very quick; I called in the morning to have the work done and the crew was there that morning and was finished by 5 pm. The job site was left clean. The Keith crew patched all the many problem areas (seams, flashing, vents, and the front edge of the roof) with new rubber, and provided me with additional photos of the work in progress and after it was completed, and explained everything that had been done. All in all, it was a very painless repair. Keith has my confidence for future work.

+ -1 moreKeith Roofing has done 3 jobs for me in the past year. The first project was to replace a gutter that had been torn off by the snowstorm last winter. Many other roofing companies refused to do the job because it was too small, but Keith Roofing showed up right away and fixed it immediately. The second job was to replace flashing and shingles and they were also very prompt and efficient. I called them today because the wind had torn off a few shingles. They said they couldn't come until Monday, but then showed up an hour after I called to check the damage. Mr. Keith told me they would come today and fix the shingles for free, even though wind damage is not covered under warranty. I will certainly use them again!

+ 1 moreOver the summer, I notice a few water marks on my bedroom ceiling. I called Keith Roofing, explained the problem and they came out right away. I wasn't able to be home when they came, but they took pictures of some damage to the roof and sent those to me, along with a quote. I signed off on the work and they were able to fix it that very day. There had been some major cracks in the roof and in the flashing. They documented everything with pictures and called with updates throughout the day. Unfortunately, a few weeks later after more rain, I noticed more water marks. I called Mr. Keith back and he again came out right away. I was home that time, so he came into the house to inspect the water damage. When he inspected the roof, he couldn't find any problems, but he did notice a 1/2 inch gap where the addition was pulling away from the house - which is right where the water damage was on the inside. He had his guys seal the area with concrete and since then, I haven't had any trouble. Throughout all of this Mr. Keith and his crew were incredibly responsive and professional. They were good about explaining the problems and what my options were. They also went above and beyond for me just this week when I called about water leaking from behind my gutter. They came out, cleaned the gutter and sealed the gutter caps - at no charge! I've had a great experience with Mr. Keith and his team. They seem very honest and it's a pleasure to work with them.

+ -1 moreNot only they arrived right on time for our appointment, but Mr. Keith carries with him a digital camera and a portable color printer. This way he can actually go to the roof, take pictures of the damage, print the pictures and show them to you at once. He was indeed very honest and he took the time to explain different options. Very reliable and professional.
Description of Work: Our roof got damaged and we started to have leaks within the walls. Even so we could not see the water leaks, one of them started short-circuiting the lights switch box in the bathroom and that was what started this whole process. After hiring Mr. Keith for the job, he basically went up to the roof and applied some rubbery tiles around all the damaged places to stop the leaks. They arrived even before time the day we scheduled for the job with a whole crew of workers and worked for several hours until the work was done. He even took digital pictures of the finished job, printed them on his car and left them inside an envelope through my mail slot for me to check the job after I came home from work. We have not had any problems after that with the roof. Perfect job!

+ -1 moreThe roofers refused to come back and correctly repair the roof after the leaks reappeared, they refused to replace the plastic tiles they installed with slate tiles as promised and they refused to remove the disfiguring spray paint they applied to the slate tiles.
Description of Work: The roofers claimed they had repaired the roof but after 3 months all the leaks reappeared. They never came back to repair the roof. They also replaced 3 slate tiles with plastic tiles and damaged the slates by painting certain tiles with spray paint. I would never use them again.

+ -1 moreI needed roofing work on an old house in NW DC so I got 3 quotes. Each contractor was highly rated by Angie and each had a different recommendation for the work needed. I selected Keith & Co. and am happy I did. The father has over 40 years in the business and the son is also very knowledgeable. Before signing the contract Hugh Jr. invited me up on the roof to see the condition of the old roof. He also took before/after photos. The other 2 bidders did not convey to me the very poor condition of my flat roof so I'm glad I saw it with my own eyes. Hugh Jr. and Hugh Sr. are gentlemen and were very pleasant to work with and they were both on the job site as were 3 other men. I like to ask lots of questions and make sure things are done right. They answered all my questions. They started at 9 AM and finished 5:30PM. They carefully removed all the debris. They genuinely wanted to make me a satisfied customer. I felt they were conservative in their recommendations and were not pushing me to do everything on my wish list. They had me repair my slate roof and not replace it. They did a good job focusing me on the priorities.

+ -1 moreIt would be hard to find anything bad to say about Keith roofing. They came out to inspect on the day that they promised even though we could not be home to receive them. Mr. Keith, the son of the owner, took pictures of all the damaged areas of the roof and left the pictures in our mail slot along with an estimate for the cost of repairs. To be fair, we contacted two other roofers. One did not return our call and the other claimed that all of the shingles had to be replaced at over five times the cost estimated by Keith. When we hired Keith, they scheduled us for the following day and arrived at the appointed time. We left for work and, during the day, I received a call from Mr. Keith confirming that the work had been completed. In addition to the repairs that had been estimated, there was another area of damaged decking that was found. Keith repaired this segment of decking as well AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO US. When we returned home, we had pictures of the repairs in progress and of the final product in our mail slot. The job cost exactly what Keith specified and included a 5% discount for Angie's List customers. We had heard that Keith is not the cheapest in town but we had nothing to compare their price to based on responses from other roofers noted above. Even so, cheapest is almost never worth it. You get what you pay for and we are very, very satisfied with the service we received from Keith. We highly recommend them.
Description of Work: We had a spot in an upstairs ceiling from which water dripped during hard rains. Keith Roofing inspected the roof and discovered that the source of the problem was some damaged roof decking (the wood underneath the shingles and roofing felt). They replaced the damaged decking and as well as a beam underneath it that was also damaged. They also repaired other damage roof damage that they found including some broken shingles, worn exhaust vent flashing, and detached ridge vent.

+ 0 moreKeith was very speedy in returning my phone call and came out the next day to provide me a free estimate. He took pictures both before and after to show the work done. After we contacted other roofers for estimates (had to shop around) we still went with Keith's roofing. Once i contacted to confirm them as my roofer they came out the next day and fixed my leaky roof. They had other jobs going on but knew that my roof was leaking so they were able to accomodate. Other roofers couldnt even give me an estimate for weeks out and one other roofer when they came to do an estimate didnt even have a long enough ladder (and was a roofing company???). Needless to say I was very impressed by the reponse time with Keith, felt that they price was comparable if not a little less than what others were offering and Hugh Keith is a very nice and pleasant person to deal with. Leaks are no longer an issue and guaranteed the work. Would highly recommend.
Description of Work: Replaced a leaky skylight that had been repaired many times and was original to the house, also repaired other various spots on the roof where the tar is breaking away.

+ -1 moreI noticed some part of my interior wall had a sign of water intrusion, and I believed it must be from the roof. I spoke to Keith Jr. and he said he could come over for an estimate on the day followed, as they were working in the same area. They came on time and Keith Jr. inspected the roof and showed me the pictures and explained the problems. He did a quick estimate, which I thought it was pricy. (In retrospect, if Keith Jr. could explain in detail the costs, and why it costed so much for the job, that would be great. But at that time, I did not ask him to explain how it came to the number.) And he said he could do it now, if I agreed and would maintain the work for two years). Then I said yes. I think they did a good repair job (based on the pictures taken after the repair and according to my capacity to adjudge). For the repair, they spent about 2 hours with totally 3 men including Keith Jr. as supervisor on the roof. I still think it was expensive for two hour work. But if they could keep their two-year maintenance promise and their work could pass the test of next heavy rain, it might be justifiable to the high price, in my view. Overall, I am happy with their performance.
Description of Work: Repair the areas around the roof drainage, and also repair some cracks around drain box on side wall, seal and replace some shingles on the front roof.

+ -1 moreAn incredible company and experience. Mr. Keith, Sr., and Jr., arrived right on time to provide an estimate. Keith Jr went up on my roof and took a few photos of issues he saw and thought needed repair. He showed me the photos and took me around the roof to show me in person. Keith Jr's description of the repairs and evaluation of the roof was informed and professional. I especially liked that he didn't just tell me that we needed a new roof, which others had done. Instead, he proposed specific repairs and took the time to answer dozens of questions. He assured me that they stand by their work, use their own workers, and do jobs quickly. I was really impressed by the comprehensive nature of the estimate and with the fact that he listened to my questions and answered them. Two days later, I called to schedule a date for the work. Keith Jr said he was in the neighborhood and would stop by in 20-30 minutes to pick up the contract and a check for payment. He showed up on time and told me that he remembered the condition of my roof, had workers in the area, and had decided to bring a team over to repair the roof right then. Two workers performed the repairs under the supervision of Keith Jr, who stood up there and personally watched all of the work being done. Keith Sr remained in the back alley, moving their trucks out of the way of passing cars, so the work didn't disrupt the entire neighborhood, which I thought was a very professional and nice touch. When they were done, Keith Jr gave me photos of the before and after work, which is nice to have. Then I went up with Keith Jr to evaluate the job in person. He pointed out what work had been done and answered any questions I had about the work done. Also, the roof and my backyard were spotless. All of the debris was removed; you'd never know any work had been done. I would definitely use Keith Roofing again.
Description of Work: Prep areas of flat roof where needed. Then install new metal drip edges. Install rubber on other areas where needed, on front roof edge, around skylights, on roof hatch, and around chimney. In simpler terms, the roof was not sealed down at any of the edges, allowing water to come in under the rubber.

+ -1 moreThis is my second time using Keith Roofing. I called during last week's heavy rain because there was leak through one of my smoke detectors. It wasn't serious, so they came as soon as they could a couple days later (they were swamped with other calls more serious). Mr. Keith went on the roof and noticed that the lattice work from my neighbor's roof deck had blown apart during one of the thunder storms and was all over my roof, with nails penetrating in numerous areas. Mr. Keith's crew cleaned up the mess and sealed all the areas they could find that had issues. And the best part of all: NO CHARGE. Mr. Keith told me they would do the work for free as a favor to me, since I had used them once already and was pleased with their work. I could not believe it, but was clearly very appreciative. Once again, Keith Roofing stands out as the most consummate professionals: honest, fair, extremely knowledgeable, prompt and courteous. I really could not imagine ever using anyone else.
Description of Work: Examined roof due to a leak that occurred during previous storm. Found numerous roof penetrations and sealed off everything found.

+ -1 morethe best test of a roofing company is when you make a warranty call. After a heavy rain produced leaks, I called Keith roofing as the roof was covered by their warranty. They came out immediately and patched the roof. No complaint, no delay, no hassle.

+ -1 moreExcellent. As usually Mr. Hugh Keith is responsible, punctional and a great communicator. Further he went out of his way to assess, quote and complete the job quickly. The photos taken during and after the job are a great way to communicate to the customer that the job went as planned.
Description of Work: Installed new firestone modified bitumen rubber roof system on back additiion roof. Also installed 3x3 galvanized metal drip on entire back edge. Coated roof addition with aluminum.
