This company called relentlessly to schedule an appointment for a window quote after I submitted an online request. The calling occurred during work hours even after I requested calls at the end of the day. In speaking with the customer service agent, I was assured that this was a small, local business that would be available to do the quote and the work in a timely manner. I took off from work and scheduled 3 separate appointments for a quote. A company representative did not show up for any of the scheduled appointments and I only received one call at the exact time of the last appointment, telling me that no one was AGAIN available for the estimate. However, they did call each time the day BEFORE the appointment to confirm it and make sure I would be home! They seem to be incredibly disorganized and unprofessional and after reading other customer reviews online, I am likely better off without doing business with this company. They, however, lost a good sale in the process as this job will now be installed by another company with a more professional way of conducting business.
Description of Work: Window quote.

It was clear that this was a sales pitch for replacement windows and attic insulation, and not an energy assessment. Dave's show-and-tell, complete with multiple samples, heat lamps (for a demonstration of dubious merit), and "thought-provoking" questions ("Which would you choose?" when the answer was childishly obvious). took about two and a half hours. He played fast-and-loose with the figures, such as trying to equate home equity with cash, and blurring the line between all utility costs and the costs that would be reduced only in heating expenses. He refused to give a price for the windows. When he finally gave us a figure - "today only." He could only make this arrangement (he called it a grant) if we signed on the dotted line right then. My wife and I immediately told him we were not interested, thank you very much. The price was too high, and we had nothing to which to compare it. But he refused to leave! He wouldn't get out of the house! At length, he offered a deal on the windows only; and we agreed, figuring that we could do our research and then revoke the contract in three days. Nearly five hours later he left, contract in hand. Two days later, I cancelled the contract, mailed the cancellation form, and phoned Dave's office to let them know. The manager said they had to send someone out with forms for me to sign (Why? Couldn't they just be mailed?), and we agreed to be at home at the designated time. At 2:30 - it was Dave again - complete with sample case! He marked "Cancel" on the contract, and then tried to show us something that would change our minds. Again, I told him he was not welcome, and to leave, please, that we weren't going to do business. And again, he wouldn't get out! Even after repeated requests! Only when I raised my voice and threatened to call the police did he finally leave. The Krypton-filled windows Peoples Products sells are very, very expensive: about $1300/window. My research indicates that Argon, the much more common and much less expensive noble gas, is nearly as effective. Peoples Products come only in vinyl , which means additional insulation is needed in the frame, and comes in limited colors. They appeared to be solid windows, although some of the supposed stress tests Dave tried to demonstrate were frankly silly ("welded" vinyl corners?). But even were you to opt for a high-end replacement window, the inexcusable rudeness of the sales representative earns them a black mark in my book. I would never consider doing business with this firm.
Description of Work: We were accosted by a door-to-door solicitor through whom we scheduled an appointment for an energy assessment - one of those "We're not trying to sell you anything" deals. Dave, the salesman, showed up on time, and for about 90 minutes gave a superficial inspection, and pointed out a couple of areas where we could save on heating costs.

I signed up for a home energy audit based on one of their door-to-door salesman cold calls. In addition to agreeing to an audit, I was asked to confirm the appointment via cell phone with a manager, which I did. I was also given a flyer with my appointment information included. On the day of the visit, about 2 hours before the visit, they called and tried to reschedule claiming that they hadn't got the appointment information until earlier that day and couldn't make it. They then rescheduled with me for later in that day. One hour before the 2nd scheduled visit, they called and cancelled again, this time claiming that one of their employees was caught up in paper work. I can understand the occasional need to reschedule an appointment, but cancelling two times in a row, both times only giving minimal lead time, and providing excuses that point fingers at the companies employees sent up a red flag that this may not be the best company to work with.
Description of Work: Provider actually performed no work as they scheduled 2 appointments and cancelled both only a short time before they were scheduled to arrive.

Description of Work: The salesman arrived punctually but stayed for 4 hours. He gave misleading information, suggesting that he personally had been involved in the negotiations to have the windows installed at the Empire State Building and had been involved in the technical design with some of his products patented. He had in his binder a copy of the consumer reports which he inferred had proven the windows to the the best on the market He advised us that he could get a special deal on the back of a corporate scheme which would save us money. By the end of the four hours he had convinced us that we needed these windows BUT when 2 small windows in a single garage cost $2000, when you are encouraged to sign blank credit agreements with no apr noted all based on trust - NO. We backed out of the deal after we slept on it. The saleman then suggested we would have to sign liens as the materials had been ordered already and we were breaking the contract. From what I have read, the product is good but way overpriced for domestic use and the promised savings are unlikely to materialise. The producer of the windows was sued in another state for making the wild claims in terms of % fuel reduction. It is not in the literature but we were told likely savings of fuel would be 40-50%.

It went well. There were 2 installers and they were both polite and had a good work ethic. They were great! The only complaint that I had was that no one called as a follow up to see how everything went. I called and spoke to Pat, and she was surprised. She said to call her personally if I had any questions or needs in the future. This impressed me.

They have only installed 3 windows. They have not installed them property. They are not flush. They have stopped showing up and have never installed the other windows that I am paying for. I asked them to remove portion of where I had water damage and they told me that it is not their job and they would not do it. They made the bay window out of beautiful wood but then they put a white silicon putty over it and it does not look good. I feel they should have used wood putty on the wood.
Description of Work: They installed a bay window and two windows over my dressor. They were also supposed to installed 6 more windows. I have only paid $2020 but they are going to continue to try and take out more money even though they have not finished the job.

Our original contract with the customer was for 2 Bays, 8 DH and 1 Garden window. When we could not obtain financing for the total contact customer agreed to another contract written for less product and less price, thus negating the original agreement. So, there is no product that is left to be installed. The valid agreement has been fulfilled. The 1 Bay and 2 DH windows were the only ones we were contracted to install from the valid agreement. Contract attached. The automatic payments she refers to are made to the financing company (Wells Fargo), not to us. We have already been paid by the financing company so we would have nothing to do with the stopping of payments. Nor do we see why it should be stopped. Since installation we have been responsive to 2 service requests, respectively on 12/21/11 and 3/29/12. The customer signed off on both services stating that they were satisfied with the services performed,(See attached) and the customer has not called since the last service, so we had no reason to believe otherwise. Upon receiving this Angie’s list notice we contacted customer on 8/7/12 to set up a new service. Customer was ill and had just gotten out of the hospital, so we agreed to contact her by 8/17/12. We take all service requests seriously, and we aim to have very satisfied customers. We will be honoring our customer's request and calling her back after 8/17. Thank you!

A sales rep came to our house after we signed up for a demo. My wife and I refused the proposal to purchase but then a few days later a "Senior" sales rep returned and encourage and plead with us to atleast do the first floor of our house. We signed the estimate and told him we will get back to him in a few days. When my wife and I tried to call sales rep we only rec'd voice mail. The day after our calls Sales rep return our call and told us we cannot cancel our estimate because the specified time to cancel had past and if we cancel we would still have to pay a portion of the total cost. We went with the installation of windows. However, the windows installed had a label on it that was different from what People'e product demo to us. From this point it was alway rude responses from the company to get any explanation and additionally the installation was not done to my liking by their contractors. I do remember this lady Patty in the office hang up the phone on my wife. I even complained to the BBB.

The sales call was supposed to be an in-home demonstration of their insulated windows. The product appeared to be quite good, and research into their supplier showed that was the case. But the windows were very expensive. Much more per unit installed than other competitive suppliers/installers. The sales pitch was intense. The stereotypical used car salesman comes to mind. "What'll it take to get you to sign today?" We had some questions which they answered pretty well. But it was a high pressure pitch to get a signature. We did sign, though I mentioned we do have the three days to cancel the transaction and I wanted to do more research. (Part of that research was done on Angie's List.) They also were very high pressure trying to schedule an installation date, very anxious to get me to sign so they could order the materials so I wouldn't miss this great price, etc. But the untruths were the clinchers. The website (at the time, anyway) guaranteed a 40% reduction in heating and cooling bills. The salesman alluded to that claim many times in the presentation. When I tried, after contract signing, to get a written guarantee, they said "oh, we don't offer that guarantee any more."The salesman also claimed that the Empire State Building used his windows. Well, the ESB did do a major window upgrade, and did use the same concept, but theirs was a rehab/retrofit of the existing windows, and not a replacement with the salesman's windows. I did follow the cancellation process. They did a lot of pushback. i called first, and amazingly no one was around to return my calls for two days. When they finally called back, they pushed back again with "we never promised a guarantee" and "you're missing a great opportunity" and "we already ordered the windows." But once they got the letter, they stopped calling and never cashed the deposit check. So at least that part of it went well.

A salesperson from People's Products came to our home and started talking about their product- vinyl windows. was at our home. We informed him that we were not interested in vinyl windows and wanted wood. We thanked him for his time, apologized for the mix-up and said goodbye. He remained in our driveway for some time then returned to our door and entered, without knocking, to use the bathroom. He then left our home (again) and remained in the driveway until another car pulled up. A man from the 2nd car then walked the salesman into our backyward (past our privacy gate) and had a conversation (heated it seemed). My husband stepped outside to try and get them off of our property. They quickly left and ended up turning into the first driveway (to a private business) on the left side of the street and remained there, in our neighborhood, for 45 minutes- having what seemed to be- still- a very heated conversation. My call to the president of the company, Bill Wilson, was not returned. This is unprofessional, and unacceptable behavior by any company.
Description of Work: A salesperson came to our home to try and sell their product (vinyl windows). We had set up the appointment in advance. The issue is not the sales call, it's the manager (we guess) showing up on site to yell at the salesman for 45 minutes!!

"People's Products" came to our house one year ago and I'm still so angry at our experience with them that I tell everyone to avoid them... in fact I'm debating over filing a complaint with the BBB or state consumer protection agency. To be fair, they do sound like they have a good product and do a good job. But their sales approach is over-the-top in a bad way. When scheduling the appointment, they asked that both me and my spouse be home, and it turns out that it's because they use a high-pressure sales approach and don't want to come unless they can pressure you to sign NOW. They _tell_ you they're not high pressure, but then they give you a large discount "only if" you sign up before they leave your home! Plus they were here for TWO HOURS (presumably trying to build up rapport), and while the sales people were somewhat convincing, I had the benefit of previous estimates from other companies, to realize they weren't telling me anything I hadn't already heard, just taking 6 times as long to say it. (And my Saturday morning time is valuable, especially when my spouse is watching our two very-young children, darn it!) Plus the price always makes a difference, and they were crazy-high. The lowball roof estimate I previously received (from a sketchy character) was $5,000. Another manufacturer-certified installer (the manufacturer will back the labor as well as the shingles) was $6,500. This company came in at $19,000. Yes, nineteen thousand... with a "special offer" that would get it allll way way down to "only" $14,000 IF I signed up before they left my home AND agreed to advertise for them for 8 weeks with a yard sign AND provide them with 20 names of referrals, plus a couple of other insane conditions that I forget. Perhaps they don't realize I could pay to have a new roof put on every 10 years and finish the 30-year period with a brand new roof for the same price as their offer. Honestly, I think the premium cost is just to cover their sales force... two men in suits and white shirts who brought a laptop with them and spent a ridiculous amount of time in my home... felt like high-cost telemarketing (which the sales rep's said this company used to do before the "do not call" list) only it's harder to kick someone out of your home than hang up the phone. I've actually changed how I work with ANY contracter as a result of this experience. No one is allowed in my home if they say they're going to take more than 1 hour for a straightforward estimate, and I'm entirely prepared at this point to shoo people away from my doorstep if they show up looking like a "professional sales rep" rather than someone who will do the work.
Description of Work: Estimate for a new roof (typical 30-year asphault shingles on a single-family home) - they had an extremely heavy-handed, hard-sales approach (despite initial telephone assurances that they wouldn't be that way), and an estimate that was THREE TIMES as much as anyone else's, and they'd give me a discount down to "only" double if I signed before they left my house (and agreed to post their sign in my yard for six weeks, plus provide them the names of 20 friends for referrals), and no they wouldn't give me time to check their BBB report first--I should just trust the one they had printed themselves

I meet a representative of the company at a local home show and scheduled an appointment for them to visit my home to give me an estimate on replacing 15 double hung windows. The day of the appointment came and went without anyone from the company calling or visiting. I called the company a day or two later and explained what had happened. They were very apologetic and wanted to schedule a new appointment. I just wanted efficiency ratings for their windows so that I could compare them to other windows that I had already seem. I was told by the person whom I was speaking to that they did not know the numbers but would get back to me with them. Two more days passed and the only contact that the company made with me was six hang-ups on my voice mail. I called them again looking for the numbers and they would not tell me them over the phone. They must not be very proud of their windows if they will not release info on them. I have since hired a different contractor.
