I am 59 years old and saved for much of my adult whole life to have done ( ) was supposed to be completed the week after Thanksgiving. I was, as usual, hosting Christmas at my home but atypically, my mom and sister had recently been diagnosed with dementia and cancer respectively and this may have been our last holiday together. Regrettably because of that, I wanted to get my kitchen finished on time at all cost which in hindsight was a huge mistake. GP knew about this situation and instead of doing what he promised, he exploited me to the fullest extent. He "finished" up late Christmas eve (by finished up I mean that Christmas eve was the last time he was at my home) leaving a horrible mess in his wake. The week after Christmas. I paid another contractor 12,000 just to do the very basics to make my kitchen somewhat functional and bearable to look at within the context of a just completed major kitchen renovation. They finished the backsplash, attached missing cabinet doors and knobs, attached unattached molding finished ceiling beams (there were matching beams that were supposed to be put up in the adjoining family room that were never even started yet they were paid for IN FULL) among countless other items. The estimates I am receiving currently to fix the mess that GP made in my home range from 18,000-26,000. I am unable to come up with those funds and have daily reminders of my disaster of a kitchen remodel. I have documentation regarding the validity of this review and expect to see it published. I have called the state of CT and am quite upset about this company being represented on many websites as a 5 star company when they clearly are not. I would like feedback if possible about how this could happen as I used your site to help in my decision making when hiring a contractor to do my kitchen. In closing, I will add that this review does not come close to the actual damage this company did to my kitchen, my finances, my personal and family well being etc etc etc. FUTURE BUYERS AND CUSTOMERS BEWARE

Gary is quite friendly and incredibly knowledgeable about all aspects of construction. His ideas are great. Unfortunately, he rarely shows up when he says he will, nor does he bother to call to inform you he won't be there. Furthermore, he is clearly overwhelmed with clients because the turnaround time for our job was painfully long. We initiated a project with him in January 2011: we paid him a 50% deposit to construct custom wood baby gates for our oddly shaped staircases. Months went by - no gates. Finally, in April or May, after numerous nasty emails and phone calls, he delivered the UNFINISHED gates and sent an installer to our house. Despite our having expressed our desire to make sure the gates were fashioned with safety in mind, just like the gates you purchase ready-made, he sent the installer with a latch that had no safety provisions whatsoever. Any small child could have easily opened the latch and tumbled down the stairs. What was the point of paying all that money for baby gates if there is no lock safety mechanism???? Naturally, we were unhappy with this.Gary promised to "research other options" for us. Why wasn't he "researching" during the 3-4 months that it took him to deliver the gates? In the end, we severed ties with GWP and hired someone else to finish the job, which ended up costing even more money because our new carpenter had to modify the gates because he claimed they were improperly constructed.

Overall, I would NOT recommend GWP Contracting to anyone.
Response from G W P Contracting
"G.W.P. Contracting attempted on numerous occasions to reach out and resolve the issue(s) the customer is understandably upset about. Unfortunately the customer was consistently unreachable. The gate design was the customers, although I do advise, I will ultimately give the customer what they want. However nothing was ever 'unsafe'. In the end the expectation by the customer to curtail the daily work schedule around their children's napping schedule extended the time frame of the project. As well as months of design changes and indecision over latches. A balance of S900.00 is due on the account and the property will receive a mechanics lien. Gary W. At our initial meetings, we gave Gary our sketches and pictures and then discussed a plan and budget for our project.  He is very detail-oriented and meticulous in his work.  We did need to maintain constant communication with him re: timeline and schedule as he seems to very busy with many clients.  Gary finished the project within our budget and very close to the estimated date of completion  -  the final result is an amazing family room!  We are already in the process of discussing additional projects for our home with him.  It was a real pleasure working with Gary Paige!

Both projects went fantastic. Gary was extremely professional and his work quality was top notch. He did everything from start to finish and the touch up work on the interior looked as good as new. Pricing wise he wasn't the cheapest contractor but I'm a big believer in "you get what you pay for." The only complaint that I had was that he was a little tricky to nail down on schedule and communication responses weren't always timely but those were very minor problems.
