First let me say that the owner was quite polite and did return all my calls and answer my questions. And I do have a new roof installed and it seems to be leak-free. But aside from that, the experience was the typical contractor fiasco. The start date got pushed back twice seemingly because his workers were not available when promised. The day before the job started they actually stopped in, but had obviously stopped off at the bar first. The materials arrived while they were here, but instead of helping out, they ran to their car and let me deal with it. 'Not impressed with that. I was told the job would take 1-2 days. The workers then told me 3-4. On the first morning they asked me if I had any roofing nails!!! I gave them whatever I had, but was shocked and disgusted that a roofer would arrive on the site without nails! Not professional at all. I even had to rumage through my shop to find flashing the the owner and workers forgot to bring 3 days in a row! Throughout the entire job the workers complained to me about the owner and would say "I don't want to be here." I really sensed that the owner and workers were not in-sync at all. Each day when the workers left, I would have to use their magnet tool myself and go pick up nails so that we could use the driveway without getting a flat. In fact, I ended up buying one myself because I found so many lying around after the job was done. The owner did show up for a few minutes each day. But he really had no control over what was getting done. In fact I had to repeat virtually every item I requested from him again to the workers. The owner never mentioned my requests to his crew. Even the method of applying the roofing around the dormer was done completely different than I had requested. If I was planning on keeping the house, I would probably have had them redo it. But I'm sure it would be more aggravation than it is worth. I will definitely not use this contractor again for any further work.
